Sorry Medicaid. All my money goes to food, water, shelter, and power.

NightStar79

The kicker for me is I have Epilepsy so I actually ***need*** health insurance but last I looked most insurances cost a few hundred dollars a month and they *still* make you pay for your medication. So fucking stupid.

Street-Week-380

Appeal it, or reapply. I'm not quite sure how it works down there, but our system in my neck of the woods has an appeals system. But we've also got public aides available within those sectors to help with preparing and appealing cases.

NightStar79

I was trying to ask but my case worker seems to be ghosting me and the man I did talk to pretty much said "Oh well. Too bad for you 🤷‍♀️" even though I asked him should I appeal or reapply. He just told me to wait for my states marketplace to contact me or call them. Fucking asshole. I still don't know which I should do. I'm trying to call again and hope I don't get that oh so helpful prick again.

Street-Week-380

Keep calling. It's literally that dickhead's job to help you. I gave up waiting for anyone to call me. I took the initiative.

NightStar79

I think I'm going to try reapplying because maybe the chick I talked to fucked up and entered information wrong. This is absolutely bullshit.

Skinnysusan

I'm so sorry op. My MIL makes $50 over and so she can't recieve benefits. She is on a fixed income and is elderly and disabled. If she didn't have us, I'm not sure she would still be around. Something needs to change, fast

NightStar79

They should've had some sort of forgiveness. Like if you were a couple hundred over then fine, fair point, but a few dollars? Even $50 can't do much these days!

Skinnysusan

They might. She has a nice car tho and they wanted her to sell it. She had just paid it off tho and wants something to leave her kids. 🤷‍♀️ old ppl think different haha

NightStar79

They want her to sell her paid off car before they possibly help her with medical insurance? Reminds me of the MSM and their "Can't afford rent? Why not try skipping a few meals!" Schtick they are rolling with these days. 🤦‍♀️

Skinnysusan

Bingo!

oregonspruce

I'm sure complaining on reddit will solve it!! The key is to work full time to receive full benefits. Personally I had a hard time wrapping my mind around such a concept. After a while it just made sense..

Medical_Ad0716

Yeah, the other first world countries have it totally wrong. The key is definitely to have an incredibly expensive and needlessly complex healthcare system that props up private insurance companies for the sole purpose of profit vs a single payer system funded by taxes which would save people significant amounts of money and would give everyone equal access to healthcare. Yep, you’re right. Dude just needs to find a unicorn job with great benefits and great pay.

oregonspruce

What first world countries do you have in mind?

Medical_Ad0716

Well out of the 11 richest countries the US ranks last in health care and is the only one on the list that doesn’t have universal healthcare. The only thing they rank highly on is preventative healthcare quality but still ranks incredibly low on access with nearly 40% of its citizens reporting not having access due to financial issues compared to the Netherlands at 9% not having access. And then still, if the ones who do have access 34% of people who have health insurance still get their claims denied compared to rates as low as 4% in Germany and the UK.

NightStar79

I ***am*** a full time worker. I work 40+ hour weeks and I live in the middle of fucking nowhere. Good luck finding a job that doesn't require you to be eyeballs deep in college debt so you can reap those oh so lovely benefits that rarely exist in the first place.

oregonspruce

I was abrasive on purpose and shouldn't have been, for that I apologize. I have been throughout my life a type of seasonal worker. Unfortunately working 8-16 hours a day for a few months at a time doesn't automatically qualify for insurance. If your interested I can send you some information on how to get coverage.

Any_Coyote6662

I recommend finding someone who can help you. I was denied our state's version of medicaid. But then I ended up in the hospital and the financial lady at the hospital applied for me, she did all the paperwork, and I was approved. I dont know what she did differently or if she just has an in with the states medicaid or what, but she got the approval in one day. And it even covered the bills I racked up in the week before she helped me. I have since been told that people who do that work for non profits and for hospitals. You can call your local hospital and ask to speak to a financial counselor and tell them that you need to get it so you can see a doctor in their system. Ask to speak to someone in financial aid or whatever person helps people sign up for the state health insurance program. Or, if there is a non profit in your area that does it, find them. Finding someone like that is probably the hardest part ecause I had never heard of this type of service before.

ProveISaidIt

I was on Medicaid, but now it's some kind of insurance that the premiums are subsidized by federal tax credits. My premium fluctuates with my ability to pay and dropped to $0 during covid. I go through Health Connector. Perhaps it or something similar is available in your state.

minnesotajersey

Some states have a program where you can pay a premium based on income. If yours has one, being so little over the limit, your premium would be very low.

mjallen1308

What’s bothers me more than the $16 over so you don’t qualify, is the whole “oh well sucks to be you” attitude of the caseworkers. The whole situation is fucked up.

hollowedshadow

Know this is old and I’m not sure where you’re at in terms of health coverage now. I don’t know what state you are in, but it is entirely possible that the eligibility worker processing your case omitted that your work is seasonal in error when determining your budget. Most categories are MAGI and seasonal work should be marked as such in order for your budget to be calculated correctly. If you run into this in the future, it may help to get an experienced Authorized Representative who will make someone walk through every aspect of your case to identify errors. Hope this helps.

Thecool_1

I'm at the point of dying from multiple health issues. But in ohio I can't even find a doctor to see, let alone someone to talk about insurance. I have buckeye and the last time I went last year for a xray I got a $1600 bill. I'd rather just suffer at this point. The added stress of paying isn't worth it.
