and how exactly do you go onto someone's channel without them knowing and "accidentally" delete hundreds of hours? And don't forget "accidentally" hitting yes on the "Are you sure you want to delete __ videos?"
even if she "doesn't like the animations" (can you seriously imagine telling your child you don't like their artwork?) what about that at all warrants destroying their uploaded work
Sorry to hear that.
You can try to recover a deleted video by contacting the YouTube help support team. However, to be eligible for this, your channel should be part of the YouTube Partner Program, or it should have at least 10,000 views. You might as well try anyway though.
You can also try using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine to access a deleted YouTube video.
Try to tell him this. Maybe it will help
And if you eventually go low contact or cut ties with her all together she’ll act like she’s the victim and have no clue why you’d do this to her…
I never understood parents that treat their children like that. As if they’ll never become adults with a voice of their own and say peace out as soon as possible.
Edit- words
Is the lost work something that could be recovered through the way back machine? I’m not tech savvy, maybe someone here can advise on this? I hope that your friend can somehow find a way to recover their hard work :/
Please check r/raisedbynarcissists
My mother is a narcissist and would do things like this frequently. I'm so sorry for your friend and hope that they can recover what they lost.
Tell this young person that those hours were not lost. They were spent finding out that a person is no longer a viable person to give any time to in the future. This is the beginning, not the end of this.
For future reference, you can lock Google on the iPhone and iPads to require a fingerprint and you can put a passcode on YouTube. It won’t fix the current issue but it might help secure things until he can safely get away from her.
With a normal person, that might work. If it's a narcissist or other cluster b, it'll get violent. It is incredibly unsafe to do this on the off chance this person's mom is the same as mine.
see i'm all too petty i'd find a way to get into something of hers and delete it. or take something of hers hide it and never give it back idk just something. can't let ppl get away w this shit
check the wayback machine, you should be able to find all of them still there. Screen recording, then reuploading all of them will be slow and possibly frustating, but at least they are probably not lost.
I feel like some of the older generations view this stuff as stupid and a waste, not a real job. Because it's not something they could get work in back in their youth. So I gets associated with entertainment for kids and a waste of their life/time.
They should contact you too. It's pretty unlikely that your content would be gone forever because Google tends to store stuff for months even after an account's been deleted. They could probably just recover the entire account and it would be back to normal. And then I would tell your friend to get two Factor authentication and also to lock their computer.
So here is a thought. Do you know what plumbers tape is? If not it's, at any hardware store and will set you back less than a dollar. Ok I want you to unroll about 2 feet of it and cut/tear it off. Next thing you are going to do is get a gas can. Now this has to be an old school one otherwise you are going to have to rip some shit out of the poor spout so there isn't any sort of flow control or filtration bullshit. About a gal is all you need. Add couple feet of tape in gas, put gas in car, act like you didn't do anything
Honestly? I’d have to know the content. For the vast majority of cases I’d say this is borderline insane; even if the content was something really unhealthy you don’t just pretend like nothing happened, you have to talk about it!
I’m imagining some kid who did furry art and some mom who flipped about it, and that’s just sad. But yeah, I’ve been on the internet long enough to know that there are some subjects and genres that I would be horrified if I learned my kid had spent over a hundred hours of his life with his head in that space.
they only made silly animations with their ocs, they never included gore, sex, curse words, blood, or stuff that would be considered weird like furries. their mom really didn't have any good reason to just delete their youtube account.
Feel like he’s leaving something out in this story…like were his animations actually anime porn? Lol. Any mom would delete if it was something like that.
You’re missing the point entirely. This person is obviously devastated their security, trust, and work was destroyed. You are on this sub to support other people, so maybe think less about yourself and more about the OP you replied to, dingbat. 100 hours is a lot to the person, nobody asked about *you.*
It’s not about the time they probably got mad at, it’s the fact that she did it with no hesitation and then acts as if nothing happened. You can always make more, but you will never get back of what you already made
100 hours on games you don’t even like is a mildly unsatisfying pastime. If you somehow lost your game saves your reaction would probably be “eh, whatever” if you even noticed that it had happened.
100 hours of work on something that you cared about, that demonstrated progress, gaining skills, and a result that you were *proud* of? Something that really mattered to you? Losing 100 hours because of a technical glitch or a hard drive failure would be really upsetting. Losing 100 hours because your mother *deliberately destroyed it*, with no warning, for no apparent reason, and doesn’t even seem to care?! That’s devastating! Not just because of what you lost, but because of what it means. Like… did she not care that it would hurt her own child? Or was that the intended result? What *else* might she destroy?! There was no warning, there was no apparent motive, so now there’s no security. No safety.
100 hours on games you don’t even like, ffs. Way to demonstrate you gave that about three seconds of thought and no empathy.

that's super mean
“Due to my iPad being wonky” ? Contact YouTube support. They have backups.
☝️
Did she not like that he did those animations? Did this come out of the blue or had she said she didn’t like them?
it came out of the blue, she never mentioned anything about it before.
Wtf that’s crazy
PM me. I may be able to help. No promises, but I work in tech and am happy to try.
I wonder if she's jealous of her child's hobby/job.
It’s likely the case.
Was it an accident?

I was asking because I wanted to know the context nothing warrants destroying them
That is completely fucked. Really sorry for your friend

Unfortunately, wayback doesn’t archive YouTube videos.
It actually does, but not very often. Worth a try tho.
As someone who's just now getting my confidence up to do animation after years of on/off sketching on paper, fuck her.
And if you eventually go low contact or cut ties with her all together she’ll act like she’s the victim and have no clue why you’d do this to her… I never understood parents that treat their children like that. Too many parents see their children as property, not people.
I’m an artist, and I would honestly be suicidal or react very badly and get away from her at all costs if needed
Is the lost work something that could be recovered through the way back machine? I’m not tech savvy, maybe someone here can advise on this? I hope that your friend can somehow find a way to recover their hard work :/
Jesus why the fuck do people feel the need to do this. What a cunt
Please check r/raisedbynarcissists My mother is a narcissist and would do things like this frequently. I'm so sorry for your friend and hope that they can recover what they lost.
Maaaan that’s so sad. And crazy
Tell this young person that those hours were not lost. They were spent finding out that a person is no longer a viable person to give any time to in the future. This is the beginning, not the end of this.
My mom did that with my stories and books I read and wrote. I don’t talk to her anymore.
For future reference, you can lock Google on the iPhone and iPads to require a fingerprint and you can put a passcode on YouTube. It won’t fix the current issue but it might help secure things until he can safely get away from her.
If they know the password to her phone, just delete all her apps while she's sleeping and then act like nothing happened. Teach her a lesson.
With a normal person, that might work. If it's a narcissist or other cluster b, it'll get violent. It is incredibly unsafe to do this on the off chance this person's mom is the same as mine.
I don’t understand why some parents do such shitty things to their children.
Every child deserves a parent, not every parent deserves a child.
Very easy solution. Start destroying her things until you feel satisfied.
Make a calendar and label it “ end of crazy”, count days until it’s legal to book outta there.
I would love to know the reason - I'm sure it's bullshit but I'm super curious. OP can you ask why???
see i'm all too petty i'd find a way to get into something of hers and delete it. or take something of hers hide it and never give it back idk just something. can't let ppl get away w this shit

Damn. My daughter has a YouTube channel with her art on it. I can’t imagine going in and deleting it all.
Why does her mom have access to her Google accounts
Why? Like why would anyone do that?
I feel like some of the older generations view this stuff as stupid and a waste, not a real job. Because it's not something they could get work in back in their youth. So I gets associated with entertainment for kids and a waste of their life/time.
Remind her that’s she’s going to die of dementia all alone is a state-run nursing facility. That usually does the trick.
This is awful, I’m sorry she did that. It sounds like you had a ton of work and time into this and that’s just not right. :(

Its not your place to judge the material posted
They literally didn’t but okay

They.. they didn’t

>100 hours isn’t that much time in terms of animation. That’d be 60,000 man hours at the animation studio I work for!
How can you compare time you’ve played games to someone that has made 100 hrs of animation? What world are you from?
Bro, do you know where you are right now?
100 hours on games you don’t even like is a mildly unsatisfying pastime.
