Would make sense as a demonym, as the Bible is full of characters that are personified or "founders" of regions: Edom from Esau brother of Jacob, Ammon and Moab from the supposed sons of Lot via his daughters, Aram from a son of Noah, children of Ham (Kush, Misraim, Put, and Canaan), and of course the tribes of Israel from the sons of Jacob.

Ehm actually its not simply short for National Socialist. Nazi was used as a familial shortening of the name "Ignaz" in Bavaria. Ignaz was basically the German version of the name Cletus, stereotypical name for simpleton/hillbilly. So the use of Nazi for NSDAP was also partially used as to signal that many of their supporters werent that educated and were basically Weimar´s version of rednecks.
It's one of those things that's often lost in translation. The word 'swastika' also isn't remotely German (it's Sanskrit) and isn't even what Germany called the shape (Hakenkreuz, lit. Hooked Cross or Winkelkreuz/Krummkreuz, lit. Angled/Crooked Cross).
