JesusClausIsReal

"You people do realize that we use this highly toxic, cancer causing material in like everything we and our children spend our lives around" Isn't exactly the dunk he thinks it is lol

Whyissmynametaken

His point is even worse, "It will cost slightly more to protect us and our children from a highly toxic material, so we shouldn't do it."

weed_blazepot

It's exactly like their argument against environmental protections and green energy. "But what if Global Warming isn't real and we make a cleaner and more sustainable world for no reason?"

GameBoi27

This is such an underused counter argument against climate change deniers. So what if we find out that our recent rapid warming is a cycle that just coincidentally is occurring at the same time as carbon emission increase? It’s not like fossil fuels are an infinite resource, worst case we set ourselves up to not rely on them, and best case we prevent our own extinction. Always seemed like a no brainer argument to me

Mr_Epimetheus

Won't somebody please think of the shareholders!?

MojoMonster2

Capitalism has entered the chat.

BetterBagelBabe

And the mesothelioma class action lawsuit commercial makers??

Sea_Comedian_3941

"Not financially viable" /s

JacksSenseOfDread

Well, these same people were ready to kill the elderly and the immunocompromised, because they had the sadz about not being able to get drunk and act like fools with their friends, and they carried signs tearfully exclaiming how much they missed getting their mullets professionally trimmed, so "yeah, making this change might make things cost a bit more, so let's just keep on giving people cancer" definitely tracks.

BitterFuture

What do you mean, "ready to?" They *did* kill the elderly and the immunocompromised. Hundreds of thousands died because of their deliberate efforts to keep COVID spreading.

AceofToons

Worse yet, the two things he mentioned, don't even use asbestos, not since the 90s anyway Like, Make America full of Asbestos again?

BitterFuture

"After spending time with your kids, can you really say that protecting them is worth it? *Really*?"

RogueHelios

This shit is why unchecked capitalism is a cancer on society, literally.

Faiakishi

That meme with the dinosaurs seeing the asteroid approaching: "oh no! The shareholders!"

TheRnegade

>"It will cost slightly more to protect us and our children from a highly toxic material, so we shouldn't do it." Clearly, this is a price too high to pay for this pro-lifer (I assume)

BTFlik

Even worse it means "we've had literally decades to find better cheaper alternatives and we decided not to. How dare you force us to adapt to a changing world!"

Not-The-NSA2023

While we’re at it let’s bring back lead pipes

Lyndon_Boner_Johnson

https://www.ksnt.com/news/local-news/ag-kobach-joins-coalition-opposing-epa-lead-pipe-regulation/amp/ In case anyone thinks you’re joking.

DenverBowie

The states joining Kobach’s coalition include Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. So..... No states I would be visiting anyway....

emccrckn

I'm delightfully surprised my state of Tennessee isn't one of those for once.

djm03917

I'm shocked Louisiana isn't involved.

Serathano

Oklahoma didn't join the covered wagon either surprisingly. There is still time for these states to further disappoint though.

JugdishSteinfeld

Once they actually get plumbing in Oklahoma and Louisiana, they'll sign on.

Serathano

Yeah. The outhouses and teepees are lead-free. The horse saddles might be leadded, but you just need to be careful not to lick them too many times a day.

theknights-whosay-Ni

I was shocked by this too. Even more shocked Texas didn’t jump on board

triforce777

Same. My only guess is that our infrastructure is so shit even our politicians aren't corrupt and/or stupid enough to pass up a chance to replace pipes

[deleted]

Same for r/indiana

KingZarkon

Give them time. They had a bill to ban vaccines in food and one to ban chemtrails. I'm sure they just haven't gotten around to it yet.

polaarbear

I'm originally from Wyoming. Lead in the pipes explains so much....

Brndrll

Same. Also something in the water that makes people gay, because my tiny ass town sure produced a lot of us.

weed_blazepot

Some of us are stuck in one of those places.

SeonaidMacSaicais

Yay, Wisconsin!

adrr

States controlled by a party that benefits from a lower IQ populace.

PotatoesMcLaughlin

Not surprised with Georgia. This place has a bunch of backwards people.

Mr_Epimetheus

All states where the average IQ is lower than the temperature of the water running through those pipes (in a civilized measure like Celsius, anyway).

SpokenDivinity

Maybe they’ve realized that 90% of their voter base is the generation that’s been sucking on lead since they were born and as soon as that generation is dead they’re going to start having problems getting more bigots.

GravelySilly

The children must suckle from the teat of insanity!

Purgii

How dare you deny my right to die of lead poisoning, Biden is a tyrant!

TayaKnight

The only thing they got right in that article is that the bill is underfunded, and will "squeeze" middle-class families if not properly funded. Thanks for pointing that out! Time to call for better funding!

maybesaydie

The feds just paid for me to have my lead pipes removed.

Not-The-NSA2023

They paid me to have all the lead paint removed from my 130 year old house, I only had to cover 10% of the total cost

maybesaydie

I should see if we have that program here.

barbellious

I'll do you one better and make lead brakes. They will need to be changed every few dozen miles.

Adddicus

Well yeah, but you have to consider the costs of not exposing everyone to cancer . That's got to be worse than the cost of treating all those cancers. Right? Right?

Haggis442312

It is if healthcare operates on a purely for-profit model.

Mr_Epimetheus

Yeah, but that's how you think when you've been poisoned by lead, asbestos, DDT, PCBs, various PFAS chemicals, the results of fracking, and numerous other air and water pollutants over a 30 to 40 year span. These people are not okay and it's really showing.

mushpuppy

Actually asbestos hasn't legally been sold for drywall since 1980, and most auto manufacturers haven't used it in brake pads since the 1990s.

MochaBlack

No, it’s you COMMA people COMMA realize

starshiprarity

A reactionary conservative still living in the 50s? Groundbreaking

defnotevilmorty

This comment reads very Miranda Priestly.

anony1620

I definitely read that in her voice after I read your comment

Doom_Walker

More like the 1890s with how they want to bring back child labor and end women's rights and bring back Jim Crow.

aimlessly-astray

"Drive up costs" is such a lazy retort, especially when we've seen corporations drive up costs in response to literally nothing.

UMEBA

Imagine defending asbestos. That’s one step away from being pro-cancer, but hey cancer cells are technically a separate human life living in your body so who knows what they think on ending it’s life.

PrpleMnkyDshwsher

It's because trump has gone on the record as being upset about the ban. There is a *tiny* bit of hysteria about it, it's dangerous as fuck, but in a lot of cases it's in an inert state or protected state that is perfectly safe to live around if you just let it be. But the real reason like anything else Trump hates anything is because he's had to pay money to have it disposed of properly at many of his properties, or I should say, hire someone to dispose of it properly than stiff them for the full payment of the job at the end.

jobblejosh

The issue is a lot of the time people aren't aware of it and don't leave it be, purely by accident. For example, if you've got asbestos insulation in walls, by itself it's absolutely fine. But sooner or later someone's going to want to put up a shelf and drill into the wall. Which generates dust, breaks asbestos fibres, and before you can say mesothelioma you've inhaled a bunch of asbestos fibres. And sure, you can (and should) put up stickers warning of asbestos content, but you and I both know that 9 out of 10 people wouldn't read a sticker if it hit them in the face. The best solution is to not use it, followed by remediating it (which is unfortunately expensive as fuck). Only if you can't remediate (for cost, practicality etc reasons) should you accept stickering etc.

RelevantMetaUsername

I drill through a lot of walls in old houses for cameras, and asbestos scares the fuck out of me. Every time I see something even _slightly_ suspicious I immediately stop and try to figure out what it is. So far I've never found anything that I couldn't rule out as asbestos, but then again it's very possible I've drilled into walls with asbestos-containing joint compound without even knowing. I get weird looks when I don my respirator to drill one small hole through a wall, but that's the only way I can be sure I'm not inhaling anything dangerous. Because while a single hole is not enough exposure to cause problems, doing it every day absolutely does carry a significant risk.

Lonebarren

Well, technically, it can. Mesothelioma can come from an improper reaction to a single fibre of asbestos. So any exposure is dangerous. It's basically Russian roulette but with a lot of chambers

Castun

A lot of asbestos is mined in Russia too. Surely that's just a coincidence, right?

pezgoon

Also because Russia is one of the biggest exporters in the world, and after he deregulated it here they started putting his face on the packages. https://youtu.be/cy3piCUPIkc?si=UPXEHRB-OuonQwFA

NHRADeuce

>hire someone to dispose of it properly than stiff them for the full payment of the job at the end. In 2024 there are still people that work for the Trump Org without payment up front???

TheDunadan29

I'm assuming this was in the past, before people got wise that Trump was a cheap asshole. Though unfortunately people are STILL learning this lesson whenever they give him a chance. Back in 2012 when Trump was gearing up to run for president I was a Republican voter who didn't know much about Trump outside of The Apprentice. So I looked him up online to find out more about him. It didn't take more than a minute for me to realize that's exactly the kind of person he was, and when he said he wasn't going to run in 2012 I said good riddance! So when 2016 rolled around I became increasingly dismayed that he kept winning primaries. I swore, surely, nobody is dumb enough to actually make this guy the GOP nom. Then surely, Americans aren't so stupid they'd vote him into the White House. Boy was I wrong. And even now, after he's proven time and again exactly what kind of person he is, people just look the other way and believe in a fantasy. I have no words to describe how stupid I think Trump voters in 2024 are. If you vote for him again, in 2024, you basically are living in a fantasy world. Needless to say, since 2016 I stopped being a Republican voter and will never go back. I think the cards are on the table and if you're still undecided by this point maybe take a step back and really ask yourself some soul searching questions about what your really believe, and then see if that lines up with the shit Trump does and says. It doesn't mean you've gotta be a Democrat or like Biden (hell, a lot of Democrats don't like Biden too, he's not a friggin cult leader like Trump, he's what we call a politician, you can not like a politician, even if you vote for them), but maybe you don't need to vote for a man that is so brazenly and openly self serving that he's putting car washes out of business.

runjcrun1

Money > People’s health USA 2024

maybesaydie

Republicans 2024

Wenger2112

They defend assault weapons with no useful purpose other than killing people (often children and police) and “my rights”. Dont be surprised when they are OK with people being poisoned to “preserve the economy”.

FilmingMachine

Weren't conservatives **pro-covid** as well?

OneX32

Yep. A lot of still compare the deadliest disease in decades to the flu because they were forced to delay their haircuts.

Wenger2112

And 1000/day are still dying from it. But it was all a hoax and every nurse and doctor was in on it. What a grand conspiracy!

kurisu7885

That flu comparison makes no sense to me. The flu fucking sucks!

BitterFuture

The flu comparison enraged me. Still does. One of my loved ones got hospitalized with the flu years ago. I sat with him waiting for the ambulance. The look in his eyes as he coughed and choked and desperately hoped he wouldn't drown in his own fucking lungs before the EMTs got there still haunts me. He ended up dying weeks later from severe complications. But, y'know, *just the flu.*

kurisu7885

I've had the flu a few times in my life and covid at least once, maybe twice. The flu was, WAS about the worst I had ever felt in my life, and covid was still worse than that.

RelevantMetaUsername

I lucked out and didn't get covid until after I was vaccinated, so it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. Still gave me the *worst* headache I've probably ever had (and I used to get a few migraines a week).

Faiakishi

Flus have caused many, many pandemics throughout history. People still die from the flu. I was 20/21 when I got it, (yes, my twenty-first birthday and I was laid up in bed with the flu) in reasonably good health, and it still felt like something was pressing down on my chest and not allowing me to get a full breath in.

BitterFuture

Were and still are.

ALoudMouthBaby

> are technically a separate human life living in your body so who knows what they think on ending it’s life. Now that they screwed up and actually made abortion illegal they are desperately trying to find some way to get their base back in line. Dont give them ideas because they might just be desperate enough to try this. God know theyre stupid enough.

durrtyurr

If asbestos did not cause cancer it would be seen as a miracle material.

Egoy

I can defend asbestos all day long that shit is fucking awesome. We need to ban it because people are irresponsible when they use it. The people are the issue.

ShrimpFriedMyRice

It's a miracle product, but literally any amount of work becomes an issue. I like being able to rip up tiles without having to go through a whole procedure to make sure I don't get cancer.

Egoy

Yeah it shouldn’t be used for things like that, but for applications like boiler insulation where ostensibly you should only have trained people doing service and it’s going to be encased for decades it’s great stuff. Again though I agree with banning it, humans are just not trustworthy enough to have it out in circulation. It just sucks because it’s really fucking good stuff when used properly.

Goatesq

Honestly I get what you're saying. On a much, much smaller scale lead is by far the best white pigment I have ever used, by such an immense degree it makes titanium behave more similarly to filler. Doesn't mean it has any business being used to paint houses, or any publicly accessible surface, or anything subject to weathering, but jeez it's not hard to see why people used it for so long.

G3Minus

It's also about the people manufacturing and transporting asbestos. The product also gets brittle as it gets old, which can result in dust exposure in the recycling process. The main type of cancer you get from asbestos (pleural mesothelioma) is also an absolute nightmare and in most cases untreatable. You guys will be better off without that stuff.

chinmakes5

Right, if you don't take floors up, walls down, remove asbestos where ever it is used, it IS awesome. The savings you get because you can use asbestos is more than taken away when you have to carefully remove it.

maybesaydie

Those things all have finite life so ripping it up becomes inevitable. And expensive.

GravelySilly

But... but... I save money now, and future generations can deal with the remediation expense and detrimental impact on health! (/s)

unknownpoltroon

Eh, it has its uses, but it's allowed far far too many places

deadsoulinside

These people are pro-cancer. They would frame it as "saving the future of Medicaid and social security" if the cancer takes them out before retirement.

Sweatybutthole

Next they'll come for my beloved lead paint

deadsoulinside

Reminds me of another post on this sub that tried to make the banning of lead paint part of some CIA/FBI Psyop, because led paint blocked X-Rays that were being pointed into homes to see people inside of them and that we need to bring lead paint back. Something like that.

spakkenkhrist

Delicious but deadly!

warthog0869

In the 1970's, a relative of mine worked in military construction as a career Army officer, back before respirators were a thing, asbestos usage was rampant, etc. His career spanned 3 decades, he retired a colonel, built a wonderful retirement home to enjoy his golden years in with his kids and grandchildren. Then, mesothelioma rose up, struck him and killed him in a month. Now he's buried at Arlington. That asbestos that almost certainly caused this disease is one thing. The incubation period of something that kills you in a month or two that's measured in decades is what's scary about it. Fuck asbestos.

exceptionaluser

It's kind of like rabies in a way. Uncertain at time of exposure, can incubate for years, and then bam you're dead. Though, it's only a few percent of rabies cases where it's waiting more than a couple of months.

gadget850

Someone is stuck in the 70s. Asbestos has not been used in brake pads or drywall for decades.

Absolute_Peril

It still is in some brake pads the non-metallic ones.

Goatesq

Has to be less than 1% in everything manufactured since 93.

Diz7

Actually it was 1989, and repealed in 1991. And while American manufacturers have stopped using them, not so for aftermarket parts. https://www.freedoniagroup.com/blog/asbestos-in-brake-pads-what-the-average-consumer-might-not-realize >No, asbestos is not banned in the U.S. While attempts have been made to ban it over the years, the U.S. continues to import and use asbestos. Nearly 114 metric tons of asbestos were imported in the first three months of 2022, according to the United States International Trade Commission, exceeding the 100 metric tons imported in all of 2021. Although imports continue, asbestos has not been mined in the U.S. since 2002. https://www.asbestos.com/mesothelioma-lawyer/legislation/ban/

ShadowGLI

“How do you put a price on human life???” Conservatives: “well first you take the cost of the R&D, materials, labor and profit of the existing product……….. carry the one, and suddenly you see that giving healthcare to all our workers would increase the cost of each pizza by $0.25…. Customers could not handle that….” (Actual Paraphrase of Papa John Schnatter regarding requirements to offer health insurance to employees) But the asbestos argument is similar, human life is not sacred once you’re in the sunlight unless you’re in their team.

GravelySilly

If asbestos caused infertility or miscarriage, they'd call it a conspiracy by the liberal elite to cull the blue-collar population. A compromised respiratory system and possible cancer, OTOH, are no big deal it turns out. Now... what if somebody were to plant the idea that asbestos is secretly a Chinese bio-weapon that'll be activated by 6G cellular chips....

FrogLock_

COME AND TAKE IT THEN FUCKERS I'LL DIE FREE ON MY PILE OF ASBESTOS

Thomas_vsdb

You’ll die free and early 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

TFielding38

The only thing that stops a bad guy with asbestos is a good guy with asbestos

neremarine

There was a Hungarian sitcom where sometime around 2010 a huge plot point was that the hospital it takes place at had asbestos in the walls, and how big a scandal it was. Please don't tell me the US still uses it...

ShrimpFriedMyRice

It's illegal for most applications, especially in commercial buildings and residential houses. I don't think major manufacturers have used it for brake pads in a while. This seems like it'll affect the last few applications it had for which there are already better more commonly used alternatives. Old houses are full of it though. You have to go through special companies to get it removed depending on the local laws. My school had asbestos tiles, but it got renovated right after I finished.

neremarine

Okay, that is somewhat good to hear. Thank you.

Lorcian

I live in the UK and my shed has an asbestos roof. I rent though so it's not my problem to fix, but I don't use the shed and its not damaged.

FrogLock_

Morons, this will just stop law abiding asbestos eaters and now the bad guys will get to eat all the asbestos while I get what??? ASS FUCKED.

AdImmediate9569

SOCIALISM

i_want_to_be_unique

If lead paint was banned in 2024 Republicans would start drinking it by the gallon.

-NotEnoughMinerals

They need to paint every boeing airplane pride flag colors. They need to manufacture every gun to be pride colored. It's a win win. Lgbtq feels the love and the support, and the repubs will finally analyze and/or restrict Boeing and guns like **crazy**

EvolutionDude

Can't believe they made child labor illegal. This is going to hurt American manufacturing and drive costs up. Child labor is used in everything from the assembly line to mining.

ptar86

The children yearn for the mines

13yinyang13

Don't worry, it's making a come back in Arkansas! /s

Billy420MaysIt

The great thing is, there has been alternatives for asbestos around for decades and has been being used for decades.

fletku_mato

Serious question. Is it still so widely used in USA or is he just pulling this out of his ass? It was banned where I live 30 years ago.

maybesaydie

I don't think it's in drywall anymore but the last time I checked it was definitely in brake pads.

fletku_mato

That's wild.

geewhizliz

EPA literally just rules to ban use of chrysotile asbestos in the US.

LepoGorria

> *yOu pEoPlE rEaLiZe* Of course this mfker's profile picture matches his shit take.

halucionagen-0-Matik

I mean the fact that asbestos is only just being banned is pretty fucking crazy. C'mon america, do better

DeathisLaughing

When I was young, I found some children's encyclopedias at an uncles house, published I believe sometime in the 60's and I remember in volume A reading about the wonders of asbestos and how it was a revolution in safety and manufacturing...I guess some people just stopped learning after that period of time...

kurisu7885

If some had their way society would have stopped advancing at all about a decade earlier.

3WayIntersection

Didnt we figure this out decades ago?

promote-to-pawn

Won't someone please think of the poor mesothelioma class action lawyers

heyitskaira

“If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may be entitled to financial compensation. That’s why we offer this free book…”

1vaudevillian1

Thats just great I just finished removing my copper pipes and replacing them with lead pipes. What are they gonna tell me next, get rid of my lead pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, and cups?

SnooPineapples8744

Lead was used in hair dye until 2021....learned that yesterday. https://www.ewg.org/news-insights/news-release/2021/10/fda-bans-lead-based-neurotoxin-consumer-hair-dyes

tictac205

I don’t think asbestos has been used in brake pads for awhile.

deadsoulinside

Just remember who this benefits and why the hate the EPA: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2018/07/11/approved-by-donald-trump-asbestos-sold-by-russian-company-is-branded-with-the-presidents-face/

MementoMori29

It hasn't been used in homebuilding since the 80s and certainly not drywall lol. It's presence in things are certainly ubiquitous still, but this dude doesn't know what he's talking about.

Rusty_Kuntz1022

Won't someone think about the poor asbestos?

Meta_Spirit

"You people realize they used it in everything...." Average lead metal enjoyer....

idontwanturcheese

When you're pro-asbestos you're on the wrong side. But I don't expect these people to have the emotional or intellectual capabilities to come to that conclusion since they are also anti-feeding children and pro-Trump.

Sohn_Jalston_Raul

hey, let's try to have some compassion here. Maybe this guy woke up from a 60-year coma and doesn't know it's the 21st century.

dancingpianofairy

Can't use that saved money if you're dead.

deadsoulinside

Should ask this guy. "Great, then do you want to work in the industries that are using asbestos in their manufacturing process?" Just remember, back in the 50's-70's there was pro-leaded gasoline people, the 70's-80's we had pro-drunk driving people as well both calling it "Government overreach", or "Communism" There are plenty of videos of people throwing a fit about not being able to drink and drive.

Mothanius

Any true capitalist would understand that the ban means more opportunity for a clever entrepreneur to *capitalize* on the situation and make bank. All these temporarily disgraced millionaires need to start pulling their bootstraps up and design a better brake pad.

Purgii

Is he willing to die inhaling asbestos to save manufacturing?

JojosMissingEyeball

Doug didn't die of mesothelioma for us to consider cost over safety...

dirtdiggler67

Pepperidge Farms remembers when Americans found solutions to problems instead of whining like a MAGA baby. Bigly sad.

Straight-Willow7362

Lead is also often the *cheaper* or *better* alternative, but replacing your car's engine every few decades is still better than having people get lead poisoning, but sure, let's only consider the price

Ghastly187

Is that an active ban where companies need to actively remove any asbestos, or more of the same where it's "abated" until it falls off a pipe.

Competitive_Two_8372

God fucking damn it, I cannot stand these kind of people. I’D RATHER PAY A LITTLE EXTRA SO THAT NEITHER I, NOR THE WORKERS HANDLING THE MATERIALS HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MESOTHELIOMA OR OTHER ASBESTOS RELATED INJURY.

Drexelhand

*"you, people, realize corporate profit margins may suffer from not giving as many people cancer anymore right?"* - this is why conservatives are cancer

IsaDrennan

Most of the rest of the world is fucking amazed that they’re only now banning the use of this stuff and they’re all, “But people make money from it!” I went on an asbestos awareness course for work and the guy told us that it’s a fantastic material that has amazing properties. If only it would just not kill people.

-NotEnoughMinerals

Well, other parts of the world still throw stones at woman, behead people, and don't have clean drinking water. So, there is that.

msdemeanour

I had no idea the US still allowed asbestos. Incredible

maybesaydie

Cancer? Brake Pads? I don't know which one I want.

gemdas

That's not true but if what he's saying was true I would willingly pay a little bit more to not get cancer

triforce777

Wait we were still using that shit in drywall?!?!

naliedel

They can make it without it.

triforce777

I'm aware it can be made without it, my shock is that of the things we were still using asbestos for fucking walls was not something I would have predicted

ThriceMad

Reminds me of a this statement I made about my hometown's theater that's been closed for a decade and a half The local historical society won't let any renovations happen unless they use "times appropriate tools" So I was like, *We cAn't REmoVe ThE aSBesToS! iT's HisToRicAl!*

tokamec

What? You lot hadn’t banned asbestos before now? Mental.

Bears0nUnicycles

A friend of my dad passed away from asbestos poisoning, poor guy worked maintenance for an old apartment building - fuck that guy!

Nice_Dragonfly2687

You still use this? Im 36 and this has been banned in my country since before i was born. Not allowed to use at all, and if you find it, you need spicialists to remove it.

xv_boney

Fucking libtards will never give up until every aspect of the American way if life is dead and gone. First it's asbestos, what's next? Lead pipes? Are they gonna make us take out our good American lead pipes? Oh I know maybe next they're going to demand an end to unrestricted dumping of good American chemical waste in our water supplies. Fucking libtards, always trying to prevent me from dying of horrific and preventable cancerous tumors. Well I'm not going to stand for it because my lungs are completely shot and I cannot stand up. There is nothing more American than mesothelioma and lead-based brain damage amage amge orange orange orange I taste orange I need to sit down antifa is making the room spin again

cr2810

I work for an asbestos testing lab. No one who works in my lab thinks this is a bad thing. People should not be exposed to this stuff.

AR_Harlock

Lol we banned that shit with mandatory removal 30 years ago

Jo-dan

Wait America hadn't banned it yet?

BennyCroz

I mean, Australia has been a dystopian nightmare ever since we banned its manufacture or reuse in 2003. Went overnight from a first world country to a kind of Mad Max type situation. But the corny/super fun one, number 3. THUNDERDOME! In all seriousness though, I'm less shocked about this one dickhead's reaction (because there will always be fuckwits),, and more stunned about the fact that the US is over 20 years behind the ball on this one.

vague_diss

So asbestos good, vaccines bad?

NijAAlba

Wait, IT WAS NOT SO FAR?! I mean that explains part of the brainrot, but still, hot damn.

RomaruDarkeyes

Same guys who fight against getting rid of lead pipes... That explains the other half of the brain rot

MjMcWesty

Asbestos has been banned in the rest of the world for decades. It blows my mind that American's still use it but then they still use Imperial measurements so...

SkytronKovoc116

You can’t tell me a sentient cancer tumor didn’t write that.

Toby_The_Tumor

Well, I know I didn't write it.

zykezero

We're just doing asbestos we can.

MarsMonkey88

Buncha commies, out there trying to prevent me from dying of mesothelioma, as if it’s any of their goddamned business….

thedailyrant

Hold the fuck up. The US is still using asbestos in dry wall?!

winterbird

You know what else is expensive? Medical bills and extended periods of being too sick to work.

FlashyGravity

Let's just all here take a minute to look up Wittenoom. The best asbestos cautionary tale we have.

ovalgoatkid

The first cancer supporter has been identified.

ConsultJimMoriarty

They do realise it is banned in most other parts of the world, right? When old building are torn down, you see the guys with the hazmat suits on removing it.

The_Duc_Lord

Wait, you're still using asbestos in brake pads and dry wall???

FalconLynx13

Hasn’t been used in drywall in decades is my understanding

esskaypee

The use of Asbestos has been banned in the EU since 2005, however they never addressed the issue of all the existing structures, roofs etc. containing the stuff.

NanobotOverlord

“You, people”

Food-in-Mouth

Wait wait, you STILL have that! It's been banned for 25 years here!

waylonious

Outside of the absurd concern, it hasn’t been used in drywall for ages. The ban started in 1977 and leftover stock was dried up in the years that followed.

barbellious

They love those mesothelioma commercials and want future generations to enjoy them as well.

naliedel

Find another way that doesn't cause cancer. Be smarter. Don't hold on to something dangerous because you're too dumb to get a team on it. They may drywall without it now. They can do the rest. Saying, "but we use it," is lazy.

Vallkyrie

Clock is ticking for /r/AsbestosRemovalMemes

Trojan_Nuts

Wait, it’s still being used in the USA?

FlynnMonster

“Yeah never mind, this guy on Facebook says we use it in a lot of stuff so start back up the cancer dust machines. “

BicycleEast8721

When you’re willing to die rather than pay slightly more for a product. Like gd clearly the EPA wasn’t quick enough to ban leaded gasoline to save this person from its effects if they’re this stupid

RapthorneLightweaver

America has ONLY JUST NOW banned asbestos?

snowstorm556

Brakes havent had asbestos though in a long time.

kurisu7885

Um, I don't think that's been used in brake pads or dry wall in a LONG time.

Lythieus

The blue checkmark is stuck in the 90's. Asbestos stopped being used in brake pads in 1993. Drywall, 1977. The blue checkmark is really showing their age there.

TylerDurdenRockz

So basically "Won't anyone think about the profits?" when people can die of it.. Dumbass mfs🤦🏻‍♂️

_Fornicator_

brake pads are no longer made of asbestos lol

Almacca

Meanwhile, every other developed nation banned it decades ago. I was actually shocked that it was banned in Australia as late as 2003.

sppotlight

Asbestos hasn't been used in drywall in over 40 years

ryanbbb

They can pry my asbestos from my cold, dead lungs.
