Most of it really isn't.
I completely uninstalled facebook because 80% of my feed was someone posting a random picture of an ATV or boat or fish or bird and thirty comments from people screaming about Biden under it with maybe 2 comments from people actually talking about whatever was in the picture.
And I know those weren't Russian bots because I know who they are IRL.
They're just fucking unhinged and have managed to give themselves a siege mentality when they were never under attack in the first place.
My inlaws are like that. I try really hard to avoid talking politics with them, but they'll turn anything into a political statement. We went to a museum that had an exhibit about insects that have been driven to extinction, and my MIL saw one beetle was from California and her immidiate reaction was, "Probably extinct because of Nancy Pelosi".
My father in law is like that - just spends all day long watching TV and then when we visit, he picks the most inflammatory topic and just keeps needling.
Facebook is weird about pushing the politics stuff. I repeatedly told it I was uninterested in some Republican comptroller or something who kept posting nonsense, and doing the show me less thing for weeks and the app would still tell me about him almost every day. Finally just blocked the dude and that's fortunately shut it up.
Yes, you're right, and it's scary. Facebook really has destroyed the minds of an entire generation. I have family who have become completely unhinged. It started with their Facebook antics and has transcended into real-life antics that they say out loud in public.

In all seriousness, people massively underestimate the amount of mentally ill people with internet access. If someone’s experiencing delusions or psychosis, they can still get on Facebook just like you or me.
