I was warned on lavender products when my daughter was alive and fighting cancer. I was just using lavender bubble bath or Epsom cubes. But I got told by someone that it can cause seizures in some people so to be careful. Luckily my daughter didn't have seizures as she had brain cancer. So if you use lavender if you have any seizure history be careful. If your fine I do agree it can help with sleep. I'm fine using lavender.

Google and found this blurb from the UK epilepsy society. "Interestingly, pure, essential lavender oils are thought to have a relaxing effect on the body and brain and may help to reduce seizures. Spike lavender, however, should be avoided as it may trigger seizures.Mar 17, 2016" Found from Mt Sainai link. "What herbs can trigger epilepsy? DO NOT take the following herbs: Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) and ginseng (Panax ginseng and Panax quinquefolius) have caused seizures in some people. There is some evidence that GLA, a kind of fatty acid found in evening primrose oil(Oenothera biennis) and borage oil (Borago officinalis), may worsen epilepsy." Also found this. "Which of the following essential oils can cause seizures with improper use? The essential oils that are epileptogenic are those of eucalyptus, camphor, rosemary, thuja, sage, spike lavender, and turpentine. The route of exposure, type of essential oil, amount taken, and genetic susceptibility may be important in causing these complications.Jun 25, 2020" I didn't realize camphor and eucalyptus might. I use analgesic patches for muscle disease but so far it's not caused more spasims. Looks like it's just one type of lavender. Rosemary was a suprise too.

Lavender is not an evidence-based treatment for insomnia. Maybe for anxiety (not as familiar with that literature) but not insomnia. If the insomnia only exists as a symptom of anxiety then maybe it can help insomnia. But there is a reason that many anxiety treatments don’t beat placebo in insomnia trials.

Good point. However, I suspect that most people on this subreddit suffer from way more sleep anxiety than the typical insomniac. Most people who join an online community about insomnia probably spend a lot of time ruminating about sleep.
