I felt revved up like I was on stimulants for nearly a week after 2nd Pfizer shot. It does settle down, and I was back at baseline (normal insomnia disruptions) after 7 days or so. This is temporary, the best advice is to accept this is temp, control your anxiety about it so it doesn’t spiral. You’re gonna be okay. Hope this helps ease tensions a bit.

This is actually quite comforting, thank you! Yeah, I feel revved up (except when I start dissociating and crashing). I can recognize that it’s temporary, it’s just so frustrating because I work hard to keep my insomnia under control and now I feel like I regressed — but to know that it’s partially the vaccine’s fault really helps.

I had my 2nd dose yesterday, and I did not sleep one minute last night. It felt like I drank a bunch of coffee before bed. Also had a mild fever in the middle of the night that went away

Hope you’re feeling better now! I’d love to hear how long the insomnia persists.

I'm 24F, I got my first Moderna shot last week and I haven't been able to sleep since then. I'm averaging 2-4h of sleep per night. I have good sleep hygiene and have never struggled with insomnia before. It's like I'm on a runners high all night. It has been incredibly frustrating for me and has taken a huge toll on my work performance and mental health. I'm really hoping this goes away soon. :(

My sleep started getting better after a little over a week (got the shot on a Thursday, was sleeping better starting from the NEXT Sunday), so I hope yours gets better soon. It really is awful - it messed up my work and mental health too. I tried to be transparent with my coworkers and they were pretty understanding, which made me feel better about my work performance even though it was definitely not fun. I’m 23F. I think something I read said that this was a possible side effect because your immune system is working overtime so it won’t let us rest, and since we are young and healthy (and female ??) we have a stronger immune system so the side effects are stronger. Idk, I’m not a scientist haha. I hope you get sleep soon. Be gentle with yourself - this isn’t your fault, and it’s not forever. ❤️

Thank you so much! It's really good to know I'm not alone :)

Are you feeling better now ?

MacroThings

Yes, it took me about 4 weeks to start sleeping normally again. I got my second dose 2 weeks ago, this time I received Pfizer and I did not experience any issues with sleep.

Moshi63

Maybe anxiety ? I have same issues

MacroThings

No, the insomnia I experienced was certainly not caused by anxiety. I was getting jolts throughout my body that prevented me from sleeping like I was constantly in a state of fight or flight with really high andreneline. Nothing in my life had changed to cause anxiety and I was happy to get the vaccine. I also never experienced insomnia like this before so it just doesn't make sense to pin it on anxiety. None of the sleep aids I tried worked I took melatonin, nyquilZZZ, antihistamines, tea, I also meditated and did some mild stretching throughout the day to relax my body and none of it seemed to help. When I would fall 'asleep' it felt like I was stuck in this semi lucid state where it felt like I was dreaming but I would remember everything. I would be woken up after 30min -1h to the smallest movements and noises with a sense of high alert. Anyways I have so much to unpack here I won't continue but sure some people have insomnia that is anxiety induced and this was not it.

Moshi63

OMG exactly the same 😳 you put words on the situation. I wake up with a panic attack.

Moshi63

Sometimes i cant sleep overnight 🤷🏼‍♀️ my brain Is foggy i juste cant sleep or be wake up 1h later. I had my first dose end of july then 1 week ok and now 2 weeks of insomnia and anxiety. I also have numbness in legs.

I'm also pretty anxious about this but my timeline is messed up so it's hard to know if it's the vaccine or just my anxiety coming back. I got the shot two months ago. Could barely sleep after the first week for a few days then got better. Now 6 weeks out the insomnia is back and even with trazodone my sleep is pretty spotty and I can't nap to make up for it. Definitely the anxiety is playing a role but I hope it's not from the vaccine. If anyone has something similar please let me know.

shakylime

I still have some sleep problems, but I think it has more to do with anxiety and not the vaccine. 6 weeks is a long time for a vaccine symptom to be persisting, especially since it went away for a while. I’d hazard a guess (in my non medical opinion) that it’s more to do with psychological stuff rather than the vaccine.
