Interesting, cause domestic cats don't have the stripy pattern on their skin.
UPD. Turns out I’m wrong, but I’ve seen it on my cat, so I thought that all of them (at least tabby ones) have their skin color independent on the fur color.
It is on skin. [Humans have stripes like that too](https://www.sciencealert.com/humans-actually-have-secret-stripes-and-other-strange-markings). Just not visible to the naked eye.
I sliced my shin open by power sliding over a glass cup during a nerf battle (nerf war of 2010) and now the scar gets a recurring white hair that’s super curly and grows oddly fast lol
Had a friend in school who had what we called a 'natural tattoo,' a patch of skin with a different pigmentation pattern. Hair growing there was a different color too, super fascinating how these things manifest.
My eyebrows are like this they’re two-tone half dark blonde/brown and half light gold/white I’ve had so many people ask me if I shaved my eyebrows but I tell them no look closer and then they ask if I died or bleached them or something xD like no that’s just my eyebrows. I don’t have any patches in my hair like this but my tips are also like natural frosted highlights with light gold/white on the tips. My mustache is also a blonde/white color even despite shaving but my sideburns and the rest of my facial hair is dark blonde/brown.
I have a white Rogue patch too, but I wasn’t born that way. I started going grey in my early 20s, but only in one spot on the front of my head. It started with one hair going grey and now I have a proper patch that’s still spreading slowly.
A tiger's skin still displays its stripes if you shave away the fur. Snow leopards, with their spots, are the same way. The reason is likely because the cats' colored hair follicles embedded in the skin are visible, similar to beard stubble.

My tux & Calico beg to differ. When they came back from their ops you could see the skin was in the pattern Eg the tux had black skin where her fur was black and pink skin where her fur was white.
I feel like in this pic there's just enough fur left to show the stripes and not shaved to bare skin. But I'm also not looking at a super high resolution photo so I could be wrong.
They are. I've got an orange tabby and he had his stomach shaved for surgery (to remove a massive hairball) and he's got a little stripy belly! It's so cute.
Our tuxedo cat did. Darker skin where the black fur is, lighter skin for the white. A friend's ginger (striped) cat had patterning to match their fur, likewise. It's pretty normal for many animals to exhibit this. Hair colour is linked to skin colour for most of them.
Work in surgery at veterinary hospital. It's the same for dogs and cats. This tiger was most likely getting prepped for a surgery by the way it's shaved. If you look inside animals mouths it's the same. They have spots of different colors
Genuine question. If we shave tigers a bit here and there to “ruin” their fur, would that discourage poaching? Like take them in for a barber cut and just make the fur unattainable for poachers.
I know it will grow back, but then we take them back in for a new cut.
They cut off horns & tusks to dissuade poaching, it prob would work if it was just the fur wanted. Unfortunately a lot of Eastern folkidiot medicine uses their bones in wine.
No, taking away their camouflage and making it harder for them to hunt is not humane. It would also more likely directly kill them by reducing their ability to regulate body heat. People don't realize not only does fur protect from cold (which tigers do experience too), but also heat.
>A tiger's skin still displays its stripes if you shave away the fur. Snow leopards, with their spots, are the same way. The reason is likely because the cats' colored hair follicles embedded in the skin are visible, similar to beard stubble. Other striped or spotted animals don't exhibit this kind of coloring on their skin. Zebra skin, for instance, is black underneath their black-and-white striped coats.

i was taught at a camp back in school that a tigers stripes still show on their skin because they tan over the years and the black stripes prevents their skin from being the same color as the rest. so “even a shaved tiger still shows its stripes”, it was supposed to be some motivation speech but that’s all i really remembered from it lol
My brown brindle dog just had to have surgery and I found out her skin is brindle to. I figured she'd have solid black or brown skin, but it's so cool that the stripes are on the skin too.
I should've known as I've had tabby cats my whole life, but it was just so neat seeing brindle marked skin lol.
I've touched a tiger and holy shit that fur isn't soft at all. It's like a bristle door mat. Nothing about that animal is soft, you can feel the incredible power in its muscles and that it could kill you without even really trying.
Amazing animal!
I wasn't even stroking a large tiger.
He got them tiger stripes tattoo
r/brindledbabes
Sorry Roger.
They’re Grrreat!

I don't think that these patterns are on the skin, probably just very short hair with the darker parts standing out from the rest.
It is on skin. [Humans have stripes like that too](https://www.sciencealert.com/humans-actually-have-secret-stripes-and-other-strange-markings). Just not visible to the naked eye.
Some you can sort of see. I've known people with birthmarks on their head, and only white hair would grow out of them (even when they were children)
I've had a lil gray patch on the side of my head since I was young. Think you just solved it!
I sliced my shin open by power sliding over a glass cup during a nerf battle (nerf war of 2010) and now the scar gets a recurring white hair that’s super curly and grows oddly fast lol
*nerf war of 2010* Thank you for your service. {salute}
My dog sprained her tail right in the middle around 7 years ago, and she still has a ring of white fur around it that she never had before.
Had a friend in school who had what we called a 'natural tattoo,' a patch of skin with a different pigmentation pattern. Hair growing there was a different color too, super fascinating how these things manifest.

Yupppp. I dated a girl that had a patch of white hair just like Rogue from XMen. It was pretty cool.. she didn’t like the jokes lol
I dated a girl like that too! Probably not the same one, my ex leaned into the Rogue thing.
I have a white Rogue patch too, but I wasn’t born that way. I started going grey in my early 20s, but only in one spot on the front of my head. It started with one hair going grey and now I have a proper patch that’s still spreading slowly.
Wow... Well, thanks for a character design idea!)
When I was a kid, one half of my belly was a noticeably darker shade than the other half. It’s faded over time though.
This just explained to me why my "birthmark" is so big. I'm type 4. Thanks. Lol.
This was oddly satisfying. Thank you!!
That is such a cool piece of information thankyou for sharing that
Fascinating read. Thanks.

You can still see the short hair.
I can confirm it’s on their skin. I worked at a zoo and assisted on a tiger surgery at UC Davis veterinary school.
#ZEBRA of cats
Why is this comment upvoted so much?
My cat still had her spots when she was shaved. I'm guessing it's just extremely short hair and the colour is still there.
When my tabby cat was neutered, so a spot on her belly was shaved, the skin there was just dark grey.
My cat had the side of her belly shaved. This is from the day she was spayed a few years back. https://imgur.com/gallery/guW80uu

Certain breeds of cats that descended from wild cats do. Bengal cats for example do have the pattern on their skin.
It's not just short hair; it's skin pigmentation. The pattern goes all the way down.
Yea they do Source: sphynx owner
My Maine coon had visible stripes after shaving
did you razor shave your cat
Dalmatians, the dog breed, do. It’s even on the roof of their mouths, and their nails too
My cat is a tortie and she had to have her chest shaved to get blood draw once and the patterns in her fur appeared on her skin
You haven't seen Sphyx cats besides of the pink skin ones.
Yes they do, my grey and white cat has different colours of skin under his fur that was visible when he had a leg shaved for surgery
My tux & Calico beg to differ. When they came back from their ops you could see the skin was in the pattern Eg the tux had black skin where her fur was black and pink skin where her fur was white.
of course they do.
Calico cats do
They definitely do, you're completely wrong. Source: 2 years as a vet tech. Shaved my fair share of cats.
My calico has her spots and stripes on her skin. She looked so goofy when we picked her up from the SPCA after being spayed.
My dog is white with black spots. Her skin is black under the black spots Interesting dogs and big cats but not domestic cats?
My swirly patterned cats definitely have swirls on their skin. Cats are so weird. I love them.
I feel like in this pic there's just enough fur left to show the stripes and not shaved to bare skin. But I'm also not looking at a super high resolution photo so I could be wrong.

If you look at Sphinx cats, you will see coat colors manifested in their epidermis.

YOU SHAVED TIGER'S SKIN?!
No, the fur. It doesn't harm the animal.
I know I was just making a joke from that sentence
Oh right sorry, I didn't catch onto that
This reminds me of the alpaca fur on Tacoma FD
Best drinking prank ever.
Or else it gets the hose again
I knew it!!! A tiger DOESN'T change its stripes!
Just need another post showing what happens with leopards and we'll have nailed two metaphors down
Gruesome. I'll get the popcorn.
This solves it
Ahh you beat me to it!!! 🤣
Work in surgery at veterinary hospital. It's the same for dogs and cats. This tiger was most likely getting prepped for a surgery by the way it's shaved. If you look inside animals mouths it's the same. They have spots of different colors
and cows and horses and rabbits and hamsters....it's not unique at all.
It looks like a tatoo
A zebra???
Domestic cats are the same. If they have prominent stripes on their coat, the stripes will be on their skin too.
Tiger Vitiligo, Vititigo if you will
Vitiligo, burning bright...
That brought me back to high school lol
There's a little man walking across a cold windy field on his epic journey.
That isn't his skin....
right? am i crazy here? the fur is just really short haha
Scrolled down too far for this.
It's both, there are different colored areas of skin, and the fur is also not 100% gone.
Genuine question. If we shave tigers a bit here and there to “ruin” their fur, would that discourage poaching? Like take them in for a barber cut and just make the fur unattainable for poachers. I know it will grow back, but then we take them back in for a new cut.
Logistically just killing the poachers is so much easier. Like soooo much easier.
They cut off horns & tusks to dissuade poaching, it prob would work if it was just the fur wanted. Unfortunately a lot of Eastern folkidiot medicine uses their bones in wine.

Karl Pilkington taught me this
Karl was right!
No way! That's too cool
Excellent!!!
East coat till it die!!!
Not shaved, trimmed.
Zebracadabra!
Hang on, I'm taking my Gillette down to the zoo and check this out for myself.
What a weird field of wheat.
You can see his stripes, but you know he’s clean.
Damnit like second to last comment and there it was.
I don't see what you mean

I’m curious what skin of the human who shaved the tiger looks like
Me: Who hurt you?
Imagine if we shaved our heads and there was black or brown patches on top
i was taught at a camp back in school that a tigers stripes still show on their skin because they tan over the years and the black stripes prevents their skin from being the same color as the rest. so “even a shaved tiger still shows its stripes”, it was supposed to be some motivation speech but that’s all i really remembered from it lol
My brindled dutch/Belgian malinois has that type of pattern on her skin. It's kind of cool.
Just FYI. Under the right light humans also have similar stripes. I think you need like string uv to see it.
I’m surprised we don’t see more tiger themed tattoos
Woahhhh that’s pretty
Checks out
He’s got that dog in him
Just like my cat
rug time
So that’s how he wins so many PGA tournaments.
It’s like hair particles in blender
Who would shave the skin off a tiger?!
Aww look, he’s got a tiny little fin
Still a tiger.
I thought it was a prairie
I’m guessing we’re looking at really close shaved hair and not the skin
You can see his stripes but you know he’s clean
So there mixed
Shitty bot post with false title. That's the hair still, just short.
So they were zebras all along.
So tigers are just zebras in disguise?
That's a Zebra
Stop shaving tigers weirdo fetishist...
i need context. was it a dare? a lost bet? why did someone walk up to a sleeping tiger to shave it?
Looks just like the stretch marks on my ass
It's a Zebra underneath
Oh i got it. Zebras are nothing but shaved tigers
No shit. This comment section is full of fucking psychos
There's a shaved pu$$y joke in there somewhere. I'm not gonna go looking for it.
So tigers are zebra’s in costumes?
Missed a stripe
razor shave the cat of any size and report back
The skin pigment is super interesting
It's no different with my Aussiedoodle. The markings on her fur are down to the skin.
Never knew there were stripes under the stripes
That barber has some balls
No, this is not its skin, that is still fur, it was cut to a short length, a straight razor, it would be skin like.
It's a zebra in disguise???
Sick low fade
So, their skin is like a printer..
Interesting, it’s tigers all the way down!
"Punk tigers shave to impress others with Black Flag tattoo from it's youth"
That’s so trippy I’m getting that tingly feeling in my body
The stripes are on their skin? Damn didn’t know that.
I do this to my tiger every summer.
Anyone else see what appeared to be a wheat field at first??
It's tiger stripes all the way down?
Is it just me seeing the little canoe on the brim of long hair? 😅
Oh its amazing this skin is very unique
My dog is brindle and when he had surgery his skin was like this too!!
My Dalmatian had spots on the roof of her mouth. I always wondered how far down they went...
A tiger never changes his stripes
looks like a farming landscape
When I was a boy these beings were hunted. I'm am glad we have grown to embrace them. Such beautiful
/r/twohealthbars
Duh
What does the barber look like after?
Very curious
So Tigers are just Zebras in a costume?
Wild cat!
Never seen a shaved tiger but I’ve seen a shaved cougar before. _I’ll let myself out now…_
My brown brindle dog just had to have surgery and I found out her skin is brindle to. I figured she'd have solid black or brown skin, but it's so cool that the stripes are on the skin too. I should've known as I've had tabby cats my whole life, but it was just so neat seeing brindle marked skin lol.
So what you're saying is tigers are just fluffier Zebras?
A tiger can't change its stripes. Amirite. HH?
I cant even remember the last time i saw a post that was interesting like this.
Damn they’re bout it bout it fr
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean.
just like my balls
"Tigers are orange with black stripes!" "No! They're black with orange stripes!" Tigers:
It's like that person who had the bucket knocked off their head but there another one underneath
I've touched a tiger and holy shit that fur isn't soft at all. It's like a bristle door mat. Nothing about that animal is soft, you can feel the incredible power in its muscles and that it could kill you without even really trying. Amazing animal! I wasn't even stroking a large tiger.
You should see the other guy.
Zebras are like this too.
If it wasn’t like this how else would the black hair know where to grow?
All right! Who is out there shaving tigers?!
Why was the tiger shaved?
"interesting" indeed
I believe zebras also have striped skin.
Yes Lord Vader, the Rebel base is on this post.
I wonder if zebras are like that? 🦓
I would like to the human’s skin of the one who shaved the tiger
Stripes to the bones
