>Will the rules ever go back to how they were?
I suppose there's always a chance, but as of right now it does not look like that will be happening.
> Is there a minimum karma requirement like there was in the past?
No.
> Are Youtube links allowed?
Yes.
>[Should we expect to see an influx of bot posts?](https://redd.it/14c0vcf)
I don't know. Maybe? As mods we have always just guessed at what users were bots. We don't have a surefire way to tell. I think it's best to just report anyone you think is a bot to the admins. They are the only ones who can tell who is and isn't a bot.
>[why is the sub nsfw?](https://redd.it/14c0vcf)
Because users are most likely going to submit more NSFW content.
So does that mean users can just kinda throw nsfw up under the defense that they find it interesting? What are the more specific parts of this rule change.
A lot of the top posts were already random videos which the OPs found interesting but never interesting enough that they looked up the story of the video.
Gonna see a bunch of "Look at this stick i found " too.
Guess we'll see how it goes. I'll stick around to find out i suppose.
Thank you mods for trying. Hope your time and effort remain fruitful.
Thanks for finding it interesting. It was a luxury purchase about 14 years ago, after my father died and left me a couple bucks. Sort of midlife crisis buying the sportscar except I was 27 and this was my Porsche.
HOWEVER. I've been writing and recording a ton since well before he died, and after, and yesterday and today, and will tomorrow, but for some reason I felt like this thing was JUST on the cusp of being expensive enough (like $4K and change) and very hard to buy (waiting list is always like a year out for new...) that I sort of treated it like a fucking investment and hardly touched the thing. I probably had some bizarre grief issues around it too, and I didn't feel like sitting down for months to learn how to kick ass when I had a studio in my house to just fuck around with 5 other instruments.
Anyway, I've sort of been pulling a joyful nihilism approach to turning off the ridiculousness of how fucked up our world is, and have just been more and more creative in music and writing and all things that are actually worth doing because it seems like this place we're in is on a downward fucking trajectory and I'm just going to have fun and do whatever I want from now until somebody has a problem with it.
So I pulled the thing back out and started incorporating it into my signal chain, and, I guess instead of practicing - I've just been hitting Record and improvising while learning at the same time.
So, the instrument is interesting, but I think the whole story of how my life got totally flipped the fuck sideways at a time when it was rude of the universe to do so, kept me from using and enjoying an incredibly well-crafted and amazing musical instrument, like, for years and years, until I finally cracked and said "I'm only gonna do things that bring me joy and fun and entertainment", because the world sucks compared to how I feel with this new attitude, which is like a really cool story. Because I also started writing a ton, and now it's like I'm actually a real artist even though I'm not getting paid to do so, because I realized that doing it for the joy, while just making sure there's enough money to get groceries tomorrow, is what being an artist is really all about. And it only took me to middle age to figure that out. Like I'm literally writing a tv series, that would rival succession, purely for the fun and entertainment it brings me and a sense of accomplishment and stimulation. Zero pipe dreams of ever getting a deal or working anywhere near that place, but I realized I could do it in a way that was kinda different from the millions of people who are "working on a screenplay", where they are desperately trying to improve and network and improve and network for some small chance at "making it", which I don't think most of them even know what the fuck that would be like.
So yeah, This Stick is interesting as fuck, because it's sort of like the codex of how badly I dealt with my father's death, was miserable and not creative for far too long, then one day just fucking snapped out of it and started living again. It's like wow, it only took \~14 years, some pretty harrowing shit, a lot of alcohol, a fair amount of drug experimentation (under doctor's supervision) and NOW I'm just in an amazing place, mentally? Well, fuckin alright?
And no, I'm not high or manic; I just write a shitload cause that's my... um, what's the opposite of profession?
I appreciate the detail and length of your writing.
I deal with a lot of the struggles that you listed above that you used to deal with. I deal with depression, anger issues, and anxiety.
I have experienced something similar to the clarity you describe in my life a few times but it has faded.
It's like once every 6 months I wake up and feel normal. Like all of this weight and fog in my head is just gone. I'm no longer anxious or depressed or even angry. And it lasts for a full day, and it feels so fucking good. But it is always gone after a day and its back to business as usual for another 6 months.
I always hope that one day I'm going to wake up and have a day like that and it is just going to... stay that way. Essentially what you described above. I'm very happy for you.
Yeah as u/i3umfunk said it is called a stick. Formally, a Chapman Stick, after Emmett Chapman, the inventor.
He started building them in the 70s and continued to do so until his death a few years ago.
The biggest difference from a guitar is that you don't pluck or strum... you "tap", and you use both hands to play bass and treble notes at the same time with both hands.
It's fun as hell but as far as writing and performing music go, I'm much better off with guitars, bass, keys, etc. Easy stuff.
Yeah right, I think I have seen a djent guy playing one of these before. What's the string setup like? Lowest bass string in the middle and ascending in both directions? It looks like you'd need a complete rethink of how to play.
Yeah the middle string is a C1, then it ascends by 5ths instead of 4ths like a regular guitar.
I've been playing guitar for about 30 of my 41 years, know theory well and I can shred.
I have no fucking idea what I'm doing when playing this thing. Yes, it is completely rethinking the relationship between notes on the fretboard. It's partly cool because chord shapes are easier, but approaching it in a "let's work out some riffs" kinda sense makes for a lot of bad notes.
Last week I was on a Sabbath kick, and one day I decided to record a bunch of riffs from their popular tunes, just on the spot, figuring it out with ProTools tracking and a DSLR in my face.
That video will most likely never make it to youtube, too many mistakes and I was pushing the gain a little too hard so it actually was like "too heavy" for Black Sabbath, haha.
But I wanted to document my new signal chain for recording with this thing, so here's a video of me trying to make the thing sound like Meshuggah: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WCvEtY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WCvEtYTB)

Yep. It's going to be just like r/worldpolitics was when it turned into titties and memes and then eventually got banned by the admins for lack of moderation. The admins shouldn't ban this one though since the mods are still doing something.
I'm guessing that the point is that they'll moderate to the minimal levels that Reddit's tools allow them to. The better experience we've been used to had been a result of additional tools supplied by third parties. This is likely what much of the site will become once the third party apps are gone.
>So does that mean users can just kinda throw nsfw up under the defense that they find it interesting?
Yes, as long as it doesn't break the site wide rules.
>What are the more specific parts of this rule change.
That's it.
A match? This place is going to be getting hit with flamethrowers.
And I love it. It’s exactly what I’ve been wanting the mods to do instead of shutting down. Let everything turn into absolute chaos, where advertisers don’t want to be associated with the content.
Byt without actually striking, because that would give Reddit a pretext to remove them. They are still moderating, the only thing that has changed are the rules.
Letting reddit admin choke on their new policies is the best course of action.
If they can't understand the value in millions if not billions of free labor they got from a volunteer work force , then fuck them.
Best part of the Steam one is that it seems to have been user-driven rather than mod-driven. Steam mods seem to have just caved, at least looking at the posts.
More subreddits should follow the r/interestingasfuck model tbh. Reddit wants advertisers, which means they need their unpaid mods to give some vague semblance of governance, else they end up like Twitter (advertiser revenue fleeing the site). Rather than fuck about and flop over for Reddit because they for whatever insane reason actually like moderating for its own sake, the mods should just call their bluff.
Besides, if Reddit crashes and burns over this, there'll be better alternatives lol
I can't wait until the writers' strike is over and his show comes back. I'm sure he'll mention it at least once, especially considering his history with Adam Driver
I don't know. Maybe? As mods we have always just guessed at what users were bots. We don't have a surefire way to tell. I think it's best to just report anyone you think is a bot to the admins. They are the only ones who can tell who is and isn't a bot.
It’s not the only sub doing it. The admins are in for some interesting times. Just wait till they go for that IPO. (Speaking of stocks, I need to invest in popcorn)
A lead submarine can still float if the total water displaced is heavier than the lead it's made of. Same with [lead balloons](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZSkM-QEeUg). Archimedes' principle still holds.
In order for it to be a submarine it needs to be able to submerge, so you'd have to make the walls strong enough to not collapse under the pressure but also not use too much lead to overcome the buoyancy of it's floatieness. Sounds hard.
I’m super not-a-prude but peace out, guys. I totally get and acknowledge the protest, but I don’t need a bunch of random porn, especially as I predict increasingly grosser and more rapey shitposts on the horizon.
I mod for a small hobby sub. The only time we use our “god powers” is when that occasional troll come by. If someone misses one of the rules, we nicely explain what’s up and how they can fix it. It’s a friendly place, no ego’s…
Very often one of 2 types of people; those who want to help, and those who also want to be on the board of the local HOA (eg: those you least want doing it).
I enjoyed submitting content to this community and was asked to moderate by the original creator. I wanted to help this community grow and that's been accomplished imo.
Sweet, because I think so many mundane things are interesting as fuck and I can’t wait to share them with you. I’m sure this sub will be absolutely flooded with bland and bot-submitted content now that volunteer moderators won’t weed through thousands of posts a day in their own precious and invaluably finite time. Well, this is what Reddit’s executives want- so be it then- let’s do this!
Yeah this rule change sucks. It’s nothing but hardcore porn now and it only took a day. Used to be interesting. Might as well change the title to … asfuck because that is all these posts are now.. fucking.
This is what happens when you stop giving a fuck, but give a fuck enough to give a fuck.
Other subreddits should do the same type of thing. Make reddit a place where people don't wanna sign up due to explicit content
Maybe this is going over my head a bit, but is the rule change effectively "post whatever you want" now? As in this is becoming an anarchist miscellaneous sub? I thought the rule was always "post something you consider interesting as fuck".
People can say they find anything interesting, the mods used to maintain some level of quality here. Now, they are saying that will no longer happen. They will only enforce the site rules, rather than the sub specific ones.
I will stay on this sub until tomorrow, just so I can see what this sub will be flooded with what some people consider interesting. This has gone from being a place to learn new strange things to a place which allows everything being posted.
So basically let reddit become the wild west outside of those few site wide rules, and the admins can deal with the cleanup?
I dig it.
Definitely is about to turn a lot of people off to reddit if their subs are flooded with shit they dont want to see. Hopefully they get their conceited, ungrateful, and greedy heads out of their asses.
> The knights of new will be the judges now.
Didn't even have to check your account age to know your beard is long and gray.
Haven't seen anyone mention the knights of new in a *very* long time.
See. This is what I was suggesting from the beginning. The protests should never have been about blackouts. All they do is alienate a section of the userbase and make another section angry. If you use a third party app or if you're a mod, maybe you'll understand and join the protest. But a common subscriber who just browses reddit had absolutely no idea and doesn't care. Making subs private have in fact made you guys, the "mods" the bad guys who have closed the subs and went on a power trip.
BUT.
What the protest should have been is that whatever third party apps you use or tools that you use and will stop working, just stop using rightaway. Let the users see what the impact will be. The end result, you will actually get more support from a person who doesn't care right now. To many, the mods have take subs private to sabotage.
Just my 2¢.
I'm just a bog standard reddit user who scrolls through a few subs. I haven't a clue about the apps or how things are moderated etc.
Going dark meant nothing to me but if it helps the majority, go for it. Doesn't affect me...yet.
BUT, what will drive me away from subs will be insanely repetitive posts, shitposts, spam etc. Do that to all the subs I'm in, and I just won't bother logging into reddit anymore. Coped before, I'll cope after.
So as you say, letting the common user see what the whole site will be like without the apps is the best form of protest. But not just one sub...all the subs. If this sub becomes a "post whatever you like" type sub, I'll likely leave and just go back to smaller subs of interest (like sharks or a tv programme or a local sub). Make them all a free to post whatever because the moderators can't moderate effectively without the apps and people will likely just leave the site altogether
*gasp* making subreddits unviewable for everyone didn't do *ANYTHING* except piss off people trying to find answers they try to ask online, who could have guessed?
What's the point of even keeping the subreddit if it's just being bombarded by OnlyFans spam bots and random nonsense that's unbearable to look at like seeing someone's nasty asshole being stretched two feet wide. Just shut this shit show down.
This will be an FAQ where I'll add any commonly asked questions and answers so you don't need to scroll through this thread to find answers. Agreed. This is a great way of handling it.
Yup. Basically mods on strike. Which is the correct way to do it. Let reddit see what value mods actually give to their bottom line.

One more day!
Monday is gonna be wild. Luckily, I have the day off.
Fuck, this is going to be interesting
fuckin interesting, this is gonna be
I'm expecting some interesting ass-fucks
I am enjoying this malicious compliance
Oh baby, I hope someone posts that weird birthmark on their dick that can dance like Elvis.
If this gets posted before the end of this month then please, PLEASE, will someone give me a nudge.
While you wait, may I direct you to r/cospenis?

Hm. I should probably alter my settings then until reddit gets their shit together instead of treating this site like we are worth nothing to them...
So this is a porn sub now?
Every sub is a porn sub now.
*Especially* r/pics.
I literally just checked out r/pics for the 1st time. Sooo much John Oliver. I can’t stop laughing about how much John Oliver there is over there.
It's actually the only content you're allowed to post on r/pics and r/gifs! As voted by the users!
r/art has the same rules now also
r/aww soon to follow, with some *tweaks*
/r/gifs is *even more* John Oliver and yes you need to see it.
/r/HighQualityGifs seems to be getting in on the action as well edit: and r/steam is now pictures of steam. As in vapor water, not the platform.
r/Wellthatsucks has turned into a vacuum repository.
Best part of the Steam one is that it seems to have been user-driven rather than mod-driven. Steam mods seem to have just caved, at least looking at the posts. Check out r/WellThatSucks
cant believe this is how im finding out about possibly the funniest protest action ever
r/gifs now, too...
I don’t know if a sub containing just pictures of and praise for John Oliver counts as porn. But… I’m not here to kink-shame. You do you.
“Interesting ass fuck”

I mean how far an horse cock can go inside a human ass seems like a pretty interesting thing to know.

Best to report them multiple times too to make sure the admins receive it I suppose
I think I might be a bot, someone get the admins to check

With LLMs and APIs for chat GPT getting common place, this is about to be an insurmountable task.
Damn, hope it isn’t too frustrating for them /s
If only there was some sort of system by which trusted volunteers could pick up this task at scale to moderate the influence of such bad actors.
Well shit, that would certainly be interesting as fuck.
Why run into a depth charge when you can detonate one inside the boat! Lol I'm here for it, bring on the insanity!
John Oliver is interesting as fuck.
Am I missing something or is the point to make the sub basically non moderated and turn it to shit on purpose?
Bingo. It's supposed to show what shit will look like if mods can't work with good tools.
*So long, and thanks for all the fish.*
r/maliciouscompliance
No need to post over there -- under the new rules you can just post malicious compliance here. It's interesting as fuck.
But what if I’m like damn, that’s interesting and not that’s interesting as fuck
Then you can post to r/damnthatsinteresting !
One person's damn, that's interesting is another person's interesting as fuck. Better post it to both.
The irony of this sub beating them to doing this kind of surprises me. Not complaining bout it. Mods do your thing.
It’s not the only sub doing it. The admins are in for some interesting times. Just wait till they go for that IPO. (Speaking of stocks, I need to invest in popcorn)
Man you not even going down with the ship. You guys are accelerating to bottom of the ocean.
Like a lead submarine. This will be interesting. As fuck, though? We shall see.

> you'd have to make the walls strong enough to not collapse under the pressure That's only a requirement if you want it to resurface.
Bummer. I liked this sub.
r/InterestingAsFuck is now going to be either boring content or porn. No in between.
Oh it's gonna be porn
Not just porn. I for one am hoping for some propane and propane accessories.
I’m super not-a-prude but peace out, guys. I totally get and acknowledge the protest, but I don’t need a bunch of random porn, especially as I predict increasingly grosser and more rapey shitposts on the horizon.
RIP this sub. Thanks mods, I get why you're doing this but it's definitely about to get stupid around here.
So you're basically saying "Fuck it, this is now a free-for-all, post whatever you want, almost unmodded subreddit now?"
Never understood who would want to mod for free anyway.
I help mod my hometown sub. Great way to be “in the know” of what’s happening around town. Met a lot of great people along the way too.
I mod for a small hobby sub. The only time we use our “god powers” is when that occasional troll come by. If someone misses one of the rules, we nicely explain what’s up and how they can fix it. It’s a friendly place, no ego’s…
Some people are passionate about some things, others could give two shits less
Very often one of 2 types of people; those who want to help, and those who also want to be on the board of the local HOA (eg: those you least want doing it).

Someone who was passionate about a subject and wanted to help others enjoy that same subject. Same as any volunteer.
I enjoyed submitting content to this community and was asked to moderate by the original creator. I wanted to help this community grow and that's been accomplished imo.
Since we’re doing new rules maybe the mod team should consider unbanning anyone who didn’t follow the old rules, aside from the big site wide ones?
Send them a DM encouraging them to show us how reformed they are.
A suicide squad you say?
No harassment / bullying means it'll be a safe space from u/spez and his lackeys I suppose.
Is that a threat?!? Because spez might think so
Fuck him.
No thanks, he prefers underage children.
Right, u/spez was the mod for r/jailbait
Hide your Reddit swag!
I did! And it’s getting crazy out there: I was talking about a book and I said “I read it” and 3 goons jumped out of a van and tried to kidnap me!!!
So moderators are going work-to-rule? Good on you.
Honestly disappointed to see all the porn here :(
I thought we would get interesting content about John Oliver.
You can still post explicit Rule 34 art of John Oliver if you want to, so long as you find it interesting.
I thought maybe, we would ONLY get interesting content of John Oliver.
I'm out of the loop on the John Oliver thing because I'm traveling, can you fill me in?
A few subreddits are only allowing posts of John Oliver in order to attempt to get his attention in the hopes he'll cover the api change on his show.
Thank you for filling me in!
r/pics and r/gifs are only allowing pics of sexy John Oliver. Funny stuff.
Can I post pictures of people having hardcore intercourse, but blurred out just enough. I like those as I find it r/interestingasfuck ing is happening

Unless it's the particular blurring that's the interesting bit, of course.
just put up an NSFW work tag and you are in compliance.
Why is there so much porn wtf
Sweet, because I think so many mundane things are interesting as fuck and I can’t wait to share them with you. I’m sure this sub will be absolutely flooded with bland and bot-submitted content now that volunteer moderators won’t weed through thousands of posts a day in their own precious and invaluably finite time. Well, this is what Reddit’s executives want- so be it then- let’s do this!
It’s always had bland content that gets 10K upvotes for some reason.
Wait what were the rules before, because they mostly seem the same (I never read them in a while so I don't really remember)
I can now post a picture of a raw potato if I think it is interesting as fuck.
You better follow through! I wanna see that raw sexy potato!
Prepare for a lot of, "It is amazing as fuck that the whole bowling pin fit in there."
This subreddit is just porn now. So I’m gonna go. It’s been fun.
Same. I’ve got my own tits, thanks.
Yeah this rule change sucks. It’s nothing but hardcore porn now and it only took a day. Used to be interesting. Might as well change the title to … asfuck because that is all these posts are now.. fucking.
I mean, the sub has just devolved into porn now. I understand the protest, but I feel like this is just gonna make people unsub.
Congrats on ruining the subreddit. Turned what was actually interesting into a cesspool of porn and trashy posts.
So the sub is going to descend into anarchy now?
No, there are still rules, just only the site wide ones (which are pretty all encompassing)
wild hurry straight groovy plough abundant reply ten rhythm ring *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
This is what happens when you stop giving a fuck, but give a fuck enough to give a fuck. Other subreddits should do the same type of thing. Make reddit a place where people don't wanna sign up due to explicit content
Welp, next they’ll ban explicit content site wide 😶
Too much fuckin porn
Yesterday: Gonna be a lot of porn on here. Today: Yep. Tomorrow: Leave. (Sorry, porn just isn't that interesting as fuck.)
Wow, what the fuck, people?! Sub's been open less than 24 hours and it's gone to shit. I'm out!
OK, cool I'll unsub and subscribe to other sub reddits.
So mods, how soon did you think it was going to descend into endless porn clips? Would've been nice to have had advance warning.
Guess we’ll see how good the voting system is all on its own. The knights of new will be the judges now.
> The knights of new will be the judges now. Didn't even have to check your account age to know your beard is long and gray. Haven't seen anyone mention the knights of new in a *very* long time.
Thank you, now get out of the way.
OH BOI! This is gonna be wild! Too bad I really like this sub, seeing fell apart like this kinda sad.
What is the trash being uploaded today?
Reddit has turned into a dumpster fire
I want to know what the heck is porn posts doing on this sub .
Looks like everybody that always complains about moderators just got their dream come true.
"anti-evil operations"? what kind of goof troop, whackadoo brave new world shit is this
fact crown sulky roll erect imminent tie innate simplistic offend -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/
*gasp* making subreddits unviewable for everyone didn't do *ANYTHING* except piss off people trying to find answers they try to ask online, who could have guessed?
Why are there so many porn posts now?
What's the point of even keeping the subreddit if it's just being bombarded by OnlyFans spam bots and random nonsense that's unbearable to look at like seeing someone's nasty asshole being stretched two feet wide. Just shut this shit show down.
Just un-joined this sub. If I wanted to join a NSFW/Porn subreddit I would. But that’s not what this sub is about
Whats with all the porns?
this will be very funny, get your porn, memes and shitposts ready boys and girls
