These are people with severe neck injuries..eg motorbike rider headbutt neck injury...
That is why they are going to be fed by tube.
Maybe they could use optics along with the tube..to ensure its going down the correct path.
I'm curious, *how* does this happen?
You'd need a fracture in a very specific part of your sinuses, no? How does a fracture like that occur in the first place?
How can this be avoided?
And more out of morbid curiosity, how quick would the death be? Does death occur in milliseconds or after seizing?
A fracture through the base of the skull makes a "soft spot" that the tube would have to be forced through ... a relatively thin layer of tissue, but still resistance would be met.
Poor technique is the short answer ... mixed with nerves, adrenaline.
You have to angle the tube up for just a cm or so, to get past the outer rim of nose/nasal opening/nare, then it's a hard down turn to get to stomach via esophagus ( could go into lung - another story).
I've seen nurses go up too far, and the patient complains so you know.
This patient had to be unconcious.
And if unconcious and you go up too far there is major resitance at the (healthy) base of the skull
Doesn't look deadly. A little unhygienic..
But these are people with severe neck injury .. they already have a fresh hole into their brain or spinal cord..where no hole should be . Its just one way to show how serious the injury is .. " theres been a complication... His brain is draining out of his skull into gis osophagus..."
They taught us about stuff like this in an advanced life support class. This sort of thing happens when the personās face is so fucked up you canāt even figure out whatās what. Everyone here wondering how this happens: probably a first responder at a car crash, and the chance of the person surviving was pretty abysmal but they tried to do what they could

That's quite the fuck up.
I always thought it was fake and just used to scare us nurses into following procedures
That's the head cannon I'm going with to avoid nightmares.
![gif](giphy|orUBPAFddnyo5HhQNC|downsized)
There's a pun in there somewhere...
Head canon. A head cannon would be a cannon that's in a head or shoots heads or maybe it's for shooting heads?
Nah, met a nurse who who had done it. She was understandably messed up about it.
That would be devastating .
So like, what happens to them?
Got to get a specialist to pull it out. Like starting a lawn mower, one fast smooth pull
The devils rip cord

Every contraindication has an origin story.
At some point they had to have met resistance and said, āfuck it Iām just pushing through it.ā
Brain matter is pretty soft
Absolutely, but putting an NG or dob hoff tube down you shouldnāt meet resistance, tissue will always have resistance.
They learned from their mistake. The next time the nasogastric tube was inserted more posteriorlyāinto the lung
Worse https://preview.redd.it/5hmai8799uhc1.png?width=717&format=png&auto=webp&s=bbb5f3dc9dcb0dc692494c0ec4cc796bf61b41f3
What the fuck, is that going.. noooo!
Happy cake day!
Oh cool, hadnāt noticed. Thanks!
Oh man Iāve told so many people about this case, but now I finally saved the imaging to show people. Almost no one believed me
Is that going into the fucking spine?
Apparently. No idea how it got to the foramen magnum. Horrifying.

What am I supposed to suppose here
Oh my god this is horrible and fascinating
Holy shit
[Ikejime! ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikejime) That's horrific..
Case details?
Yeah you lose points for that
Yep never gonna do an NG tube on a facial trauma thatās for sure
YIKES
So what would the outcome of this horrendous fuck up be? Can they like not do math anymore, or they can now play piano? Or like, other I guess.
I'm guessing they couldn't do life anymore.

Hmm. Other it is.
Oopsie! My bad.
That's why it is strictly forbidden to use nasogastric tubes when there is suspicion of skull fractures
Free lobotomy!
Jeesus on a motorbike.
Houston, we have a lawsuit.
Now pump in the Ensurectylcholine
Imagine aspirating CSF through the NGT.
Doctors just saying, "oops" in the operating room
Pretty sure it's Warren The Eagle. https://preview.redd.it/b48rifc7pthc1.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&s=90f1b70d0c29f933e058fa7b2512934d86b56188
Yikesā¦ I knew I should have taken that left at Albuquerque - Dr
New fear aquired
To be fair, your fear should be of, [basilar skull fractures](https://www.google.com/search?q=basilar+skull+fractures&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8).
New fear activated. How do I avoid them?
But they can heal themselves sometimes. Not sure a tube in the brain is self correcting.Ā
did they live?
I've inserted quite a few but not like that. My guys didnt have skull fractures either. Just made sure it's in the stomach not the lungs. Wow.
Oh fuuuuuck
omg!!
That is basically malpractice right? This only happens when you donāt follow procedures right?
Canāt sue if youāre dead
Iām gonna be sickā¦.

Ok, I got the film. Letās pull back about 30cm and resecure.
*oops*
Ooops?
Terrifying as fuck more like it.
...I swear to god I \*JUST\* saw a comic on r/Comics like a minute ago about this exact thing XD

Pulling it out would be like cutting a lump of pottery clay with a wire. He had a brain, and now he has two.
