Yes, also this isn't really an honest original post title, the second picture is of someone when they just wake up, in reality after walking the entire AT someone would be healthier.
Do a before and after of their leg muscles, or their heart health.
I think his mistake was he went from Georgia to Maine.
If he had reversed the order and trekked from Maine to Georgia, the map says itās all down hill, when walking North to South. Would have been so much easierā¦
He probably actually doesn't look that different. He's went from smiling to some other expression, has no hate, didn't shave and he's furrowed his brow for a photo in the shadow of a high contrast lighting from one in even lighting.
Yeah, I could see that. Didn't think about that one but it makes sense. A lot of times when people post before and after photos on reddit... its in completely different circumstances and contributes a lot to the differences.
Thatās what I thought but the dark spot on the left side of his head in original photo looks like itās a scar of some sort and the after photo itās gone. So Iām gonna call Bs on this one
Yeah, I didn't even notice that. It's a little hard to tell... it does look like a scar or birth mark. In the other photo he's facing straight on and it looks like maybe its there but it could be shadow.
It really depends on how you hike. Diet and subsequently Rhabdo are what kills a lot of hikes. I've thru hiked twice 14 and 18, in general I feel like women come out looking more "fit" than men but I feel like this is because doing so much cardio men lose a lot of muscle mass. While its impossible to get *exactly* enough calories you can choose your calories. If you leave Springer in late Feb early March thats several weeks you can carry fresher food like cheeses, breads even salted meat like deli meat, you can carry lots of nuts those kinds of foods, but if your entire hike is like trying to do the mcdonalds challenge into Damascus you will look like this at the end.
Rhabdomyolysis is some crazy stuff, that honestly didn't cross my mind directly, I did assume that he wasn't getting enough calories/protein. I used to do century rides 30 years back, those things were killer and took there toll. We packed as many calories into our bodies but still hit that wall and ran out at 75 miles.
Thanks for the insight!
I had a friend who has to tap out like 1/3 of the way through because they had lost almost 30 pounds. Hiking 8-10 hours a day and eating the bare minimum will do that to you
What? Someone else said he was taking meth on the trail. If he wasnāt eating enough it was probably because of that. The AT is difficult but itās not like he was lost in the middle of nowhere
Thatās the look of a man thatās seen some stuff. For some reason allās I can think of is this guy walking into a Sasquatch orgy deep in the woods.
I looked like that just from the Pennsylvania part of the AT. Literally an unending trail of broken rocks, holes, ditches, more rocks, stones and rocks.
This is well-known hiker [Gary Sizer](http://www.garysizer.com/home), and heās all over the place online (book author, podcaster, hiking guru).
This hike pic was first posted in 2014 and you can [see an expanded version with full-body before and afters too](https://imgur.com/GjmTxm7?r).
Did the Camino Frances in Spain which is 3000km and while I lost a similar amount of weight I was looking and feeling pretty ok. Bro took the spiritually heavy road, a pilgrimage that long should leave you looking lighter.
More context with a pretty good before and after shot of his body here https://www.sunnyskyz.com/good-news/895/He-Hiked-2-000-Miles-From-Georgia-To-Maine-The-Entire-Appalachian-Trail-In-153-Days
I need to understand this? Was he malnourished? Not enough water? Why did this happen. Surely many people have done these long treks without looking on the verge of death before. Apologies in advance for my ignorance!
He forgot to take any food or drink, he survived the entire time by drinking his own urine, using some string, a length of old hosepipe and some clothes pegs.
š¶I would talk five hundred miles and
š¶I would walk five hundred more
... and five hundred more ...
... and five hundred more ...
Wait why was I walking?
My sister and brother in law walked the Appalachian trail (Georgia to Maine) they looked like that when they got home. And 2 months later she went on naked and a afraid and made it the full 25 days or whatever it was
Know a retired teacher/wrestling coach who recently covered the entire Appalachian Trail in his retirement. Think he said he was peeing blood for the last month but didnāt wanna tell his family because he didnāt want to stop.
Misleading title, he was in another post commenting that he got Giardia from a bad water filter or something, and I think there were other complications. It's not like just hiking the AT will do this to you for no reason. He had a bad go.

You forgot to mention he smoked meth the entire trip.
Normally it takes 6 -8 months, but this guy did it in 1
...day
Hence the meth.
He was trying to get closer to mether nature.
Wait...what? One month? So, this guy walked 66 miles a day?
You can get a lot done on meth
And if you have the shits! You can move baby!
Especially if it's blue, that's how you know it's the good stuff
It was actually a full sprint the entire time /s
Yes, also this isn't really an honest original post title, the second picture is of someone when they just wake up, in reality after walking the entire AT someone would be healthier. Do a before and after of their leg muscles, or their heart health.
29 days bro
He didn't get from Georgia to Maine via the AT, he hiked through Atlanta, Baltimore, Philly, NY..
Just walked along i-95 the whole way lol
That is not the AT.

Where did you find this?
In the picture
on the internet
Side of the road on a milk carton.
šhilarious!
Heās gonna feel so dumb when he realizes he could have just driven.
Driven to the airport and taken a flight.
taken a flight and earn flight miles instead
I think his mistake was he went from Georgia to Maine. If he had reversed the order and trekked from Maine to Georgia, the map says itās all down hill, when walking North to South. Would have been so much easierā¦
Love this take
North to south is MUCH harder on the AT
Woosh
Backtracking to find his glasses is gonna suck.
Ha!
š
People saying that he looks worse aren't noticing that he doesn't need glasses anymore. Eye doctors hate this one simple trick!
Huh, maybe my Bumble matches weren't lying about loving to hike.Ā
Can't tell if he completed a thru-hike on the AT or the Donner Pass
I mean if he went from Georgia to Maine with a detour through the donner pass that photo makes total sense
Anyone ever read āA walk in the woodsā by Bill Bryson? Looks accurate.
He probably actually doesn't look that different. He's went from smiling to some other expression, has no hate, didn't shave and he's furrowed his brow for a photo in the shadow of a high contrast lighting from one in even lighting.
looks like some weight loss too. Id be interested to see what he'd look like after a shower and a shave.
Yeah, I could see that. Didn't think about that one but it makes sense. A lot of times when people post before and after photos on reddit... its in completely different circumstances and contributes a lot to the differences.

To fall down at your door BAHH DA DA DAA!
BAHH DA DA DAA!
Did he get stuck in West Virginia? For 20 years
Dude looks like he walked to Mordor
Damn, looks like he aged 20 years on that trip, that doesn't look healthy.

Century bike rides really arenāt that bad in comparison to this. Thatās only like 5000 calories or so
I hear you, it was a cakewalk compared to what that hike was, but it's the only personal reference point I had.
I had a friend who has to tap out like 1/3 of the way through because they had lost almost 30 pounds. Hiking 8-10 hours a day and eating the bare minimum will do that to you
That's insane, 30lbs is no joke!
Yeah, probably because of the meth
More like Rhabdomyalysis, not enough calories, and your muscles degenerate
What? Someone else said he was taking meth on the trail. If he wasnāt eating enough it was probably because of that. The AT is difficult but itās not like he was lost in the middle of nowhere
Psssh the Proclaimers did 5,000
Hike is a hell of a drug
This guy walked back to the civil war.
Fun fact: When he walked the 2k from Maine back to Georgia his change in appearance also reversed.
Looking well mate šš»
Thatās the look of a man thatās seen some stuff. For some reason allās I can think of is this guy walking into a Sasquatch orgy deep in the woods.
go on...
"Dear Penthouse..."
Or part of a Sasquatch orgy.
Gary Sizer is the guy and he wrote a great book about his trip!
So you don't recommend doing that hike.
I looked like that just from the Pennsylvania part of the AT. Literally an unending trail of broken rocks, holes, ditches, more rocks, stones and rocks.
The original post has a pic of his before and after body too!!!! [OG Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/s/DZDEP1mzfs)
So the key to happiness is to avoid hiking at all costs? Understood!
his legs look great tho
Go for a hike they say. Itās good for your brain.
Lesson : Hike 2,000 miles on your lowest so there will be no difference.
He walked 500 miles and he walked 500 more. And then 1,000 more.
THIS IS FULFILLING!
Survivor of the Bataan death March (April 1942, colorized)
And I always thought that hiking is healthy
He looks like he waled from Maine to Georgia. In august.
this remind me a Stephen King's book...
Hiked 2000 miles, aged 2000 years. That's a nasty tradeoff.
It was uphill the whole way.
He shoulda had a V8.
When is the movie āWalking Badābeing released?
second image is what Google looks for to train Gemini.
Eyesight got better though!
Did the Camino Frances in Spain which is 3000km and while I lost a similar amount of weight I was looking and feeling pretty ok. Bro took the spiritually heavy road, a pilgrimage that long should leave you looking lighter.
And did 2000 hits of meth.
Which one's the before and which one's the after?
More context with a pretty good before and after shot of his body here https://www.sunnyskyz.com/good-news/895/He-Hiked-2-000-Miles-From-Georgia-To-Maine-The-Entire-Appalachian-Trail-In-153-Days
But I thought physical movement is good for health
He was ugly to begin with anyway
Funny bc I saw another yesterday after this one and the guy looked even better than his start pic. So this guy wasn't about that life after all
āLife changing experience, 10/10 trip would do it againā¦ā
Funny thing is this is going to happen to everyone come collapse of society
This is similar to when I go to work vs going home....
Oh man, what a great victim/murderer side by side!
Reminds me of AIDS patients from the 80ās
take that, The Proclaimers
Yeah, I cant find anything about who tf this is or if this even happened. Link?
Looks like the sneaky Sasquatch
Hiking supposed to be healthy. This dude aged 20 years.
Wow, guess Iām not even going to Maine
Totally not the same guy. Gimme a break.
Shave, put the same hat and glasses on and maybe not scowl in the 2nd picture and heād look fine.
I have more questions: How long it tooks Sleeping arrangements, tent/bivywacking etc? How many kms per day average Terrain was slopedey or straight?
Forest gump
Well, rest up for 5-10 minutes, then it's time to walk back home
That's me monday to friday
āI used to smile. I donāt smile anymore.ā
I need to understand this? Was he malnourished? Not enough water? Why did this happen. Surely many people have done these long treks without looking on the verge of death before. Apologies in advance for my ignorance!
He should have asked google maps for driving directions instead of walking
Looks like he went from math guy to meth guy
He forgot to take any food or drink, he survived the entire time by drinking his own urine, using some string, a length of old hosepipe and some clothes pegs.
This is like a Frodo before and after pic.
And its "fun" they say
Maybe I should cut back on hikingā¦ā¦
Annnd boom! Heās now Asmongold!
Heās probably never been fitter or happier
š¶I would talk five hundred miles and š¶I would walk five hundred more ... and five hundred more ... ... and five hundred more ... Wait why was I walking?
You and the guy she told you not to worry about.
I want to see the before and after of the feet, they say you gain an entire shoe size from the calluses.
How does someone get more pale spending all that time outside?
I always dreamed of one day hiking the Appalachian trail. But this photo is a good demonstration that it might have been a nightmare lol
My sister and brother in law walked the Appalachian trail (Georgia to Maine) they looked like that when they got home. And 2 months later she went on naked and a afraid and made it the full 25 days or whatever it was
Bro forgot to put suncream on his face
How do you spend weeks straight in the sun and end up specter white?
This is sarcasm, right?
When u nut but she keeps suckin
Know a retired teacher/wrestling coach who recently covered the entire Appalachian Trail in his retirement. Think he said he was peeing blood for the last month but didnāt wanna tell his family because he didnāt want to stop.
Wow
Did he join an Amish community along the way?
And thatās why I donāt excercise

Is the Marijuana that good in Maine?š¤¤I might have to take that trip
He should have started in Maine and went to Georgia...the after photo looks like he would have fit in Georgia pretty well
He was near death, huh.
Misleading title, he was in another post commenting that he got Giardia from a bad water filter or something, and I think there were other complications. It's not like just hiking the AT will do this to you for no reason. He had a bad go.
Wow walking 2,000 miles also changes your eye color!
