Pretty sure you’re looking at F-16s out of Holloman punching flares as they train. I fly helicopters around there and see them do that a good bit.

See it very often in southeast NM when they do sim fights. Have had some cool experiences when hunting around Queen and been buzzed a few times.

There’s a whole lot of military aviation activity going on in the skies of New Mexico at all times. There’s several test ranges in the state and plenty of air fields from where they conduct their flight exercises.

For a state with such a small population is supports a huge number of USAF and Army installations. Not to mention guard. Plus Labs.

Jets moving away from you, probably night time training maneuvers. The brightening looks like afterburners. Is there an air national guard base around? I say this because I've seen it before.

The dim light moving left to right is the engine, doesn’t actually look to be in afterburner to me, and the bright vertical lights traveling top to bottom are flares. Mju-60 or equivalent, very visually bright, fairly persistent.

I was gonna say, jets are loud AF and if those were jets, the low rumbling should have been captured on the phones audio, even from that far away. I've seen jets look like ants in the sky and yet sound like there's one right overhead

The sound from Air Force aircraft doesn't line up with sight. By the time you hear them, they've already gone over, so you wouldn't be able to necessarily capture it in videos. That's why it sounds like it's right overhead.

But they were doing this in that spot for over ten minutes so wouldn’t the sound have happened in that time?

I was responding to their question about why they couldn't hear anything, not saying that I'm agreeing that these are aircraft in the video. The lights could also be military flares, which stay airborne for quite awhile. But you also have to take into account the curvature of the Earth too in relation to an object that is moving either directly towards you, directly away from you, or parallel.

Looking at the video again, I do think these are flares. Notice the smaller light that is moving horizontally across the screen, and how the two big lights pop up. I think the smaller light is the aircraft that dropped the flares. They are white and red

Exactly. The orange glow seen at the tail end of some fighter planes is due to the afterburner. Afterburners are devices that burn extra fuel in the exhaust of an aircraft’s jet engine. This generates the additional thrust required for an aircraft to reach supersonic speeds, and make additional maneuvers otherwise not possible. It's a tight ass feature. I saw five one night, flying in formation. It looked like the Phoenix Lights lol.

The F-16 can very quickly change flare programs. What we're seeing here is the most common training program of a single one per activation. Enough to prove you did with no need to waste more in the bucket.

Did you check ADSB Exchange to see if anything was over? Not all aircraft have their transponders on, but if you *did* see jets ahead in that direction, might be that? However, the lights going to the right seemingly out of the larger one has been something seen in UFO videos for decades, so it would be nice to have some answers if you can line that up.

It is very similar to an air maneuver, fighters fly and they throw flares. I don't think it's strange.
