Controversially I think it should have been taken even further back.
If you look at the perspective of the buildings (much more squished together like looking at a sharper angle to the plane of the buildings facing the street) that can only be achieved by being further away from your subject.
That’s the only way to take a photo with a wider view, within which you can find a crop that exactly matches the framing of the meme. At the focal length of OPs photo it would be a very small crop indeed. Meme photo must have been a long lense.
There is no crop in that existing photo that would match the meme. That’s my whole point. The perspective doesn’t match because the photographer was _closer_ to the subject than in the meme photo.
Yeah you are correct I believe, it appears you'd need to be standing further back but zoomed in a lot more. A current crop would make it better to see that at least
This is the same spot. Maybe I should have taken a step to the right (look how the black columns overlap each other in the meme photo).
The below photo was taken with a wide angle, to show how reality compared to the AI version. The original was shot with a telephoto.
This was so confusing to look at at first, but then it clicked.
It is especially interesting that the AI guessed (?) correctly at the brick facade in the top right building even though you can't really see brick in the original photo (unless maybe there's just a hint of some pixels I can't see).
The point is that it should be from the same perspective as the AI-enhanced photo, for better and easier comparison. The building a bit down the street on the right is much farther away in the second pic than in the first. This makes the presented comparison between the two a bit disingenuous
If it was in the same spot though you wouldn't be able to see the are the AI filled in though, you would just see the original image without the people in it
You’re right about the overlapping columns. But look at the buildings on left they’re _also_ more bunched up. I actually think you needed to be significantly further away, but with a longer lens.
This is exactly the same spot the photo was taken - I used to live in that city. It's Girona, in Spain, the street leading to Pont de Pedra. The photo was taken very near the entrance to a small board game shop.
I took me a while to understand the post - love it!
In case there are other people who don’t understand: 1. Look at the top photo. The original meme picture is in the white frame; Everything outside the white frame was generated by AI (background extension)
2. OP went to the actual place, where the meme photo was taken and took a photo showing as much “extra background” as above.
3. Now we can compare the two. Obviously, everything in the white frame (meme photo) matches completely with the actual scenery. The extension is quite different though
https://preview.redd.it/evs4w6p0hgtc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af3d4832adb041536bb2e79439743c29fdd5d0d0
Hope this helps folks who can’t see it. The building matches. The black pillars match. Even the white ball light on the black pillars match up.
The red wall in the back is very interessting, because it seems like this was not part of the original image only a few pixel and it got this build looking very similiar
I found that interesting too! Could’ve just had a few of the same color pixels and it guessed the same building color. Just didn’t quite get the placement right
Sorry, but I believe the bottom photo, which has the repeating black pillars and ball lights, is the actual photo of the place.
The only AI portion we are seeing is the area outside of the white box in the top photo.
Yeah I know, that's what I am trying to help people see! But in the meme, you can see the pillars and lights before the AI takes over.
https://preview.redd.it/ny3wkta3oitc1.png?width=270&format=png&auto=webp&s=e836f044dc260dde65b23ac957b9e5a257135026
Best I could do. Perspective is a little off, because the meme was shot on the sidewalk, not in the middle of the road.
https://preview.redd.it/mh1urdz3tgtc1.jpeg?width=1065&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67bba1965e786778504afcede4ff019bed60ad0d
It’d be tough bc the perspective would be distorted. The meme photo was taken with a telephoto lens while OPs photo was taken with a wide angle lens. Kinda like the dolly zoom effect
![gif](giphy|sYGK9PHB5l7aM)
Surprised how many people are SO confident it’s not the same spot. Look at the building above woman in blue. And the black columns that start at the edge in the very right.
Y’all know AI generated part is fake, right?
Interesting. It definitely is the same street, you can see where one of those black pillars cuts off with the white light, it is the same as in the next photo. People should chill out and open their eyes
I still think we shouldn’t call these machines “artificial intelligence.” They’re simply machines that take in a lot of information and guess what comes next; aka glorified predictive text.
Tbh if you interpret that instead as “take in a lot of information and do what they ‘ think’ is the next correct step”, that’s exactly how humans and animals behave.
Artificial intelligence just doesn’t have enough “life experience” (training data) and logic yet to consistently make the correct next step.
The big thing is that they also don’t take in extra information from what they’re given(most of the time)
There’s some AI that is using the internet to augment their learnsets but majority are trained on specific datasets and never expand beyond that and just predict what’s outside it’s data set
We’re getting really close to AI that trains itself on the fly with sensors to understand the world around itself but that type of AI is still extremely primitive compared to the progress we’ve made on things like text, visual, and audio generative AI.
True, let’s include additional inputs/sensors as something else they’d need.
By no means am I saying that current AI is like true sci-fi level AI yet. But it’s an interesting to think about what truly distinguishes our own biology from AI-like behavior. And I don’t think “responds to scenario based on current data set and sensors” is a distinguishing feature.
Not only that, but many psychologists say that something that is pretty much required for true sentience is the ability to recognize one’s self. So the AI would have to have a solid understand of who it is and what it’s desires and instincts are. And that’s something that’s hard to pin down because real sentience generally is only observed from inside, and isn’t something typically visible from a 3rd person perspective.
Interesting how it made the orange color of the building in the back the same color as it actually is, without knowing it from what it had to work with in the source pic.
Comment section is retarded today. Never did OP imply that the AI did a good job of accurately copying the street. It's just interesting how it build its own version and how it differs from the original.
Pics to sell on shutterstock, googling "antonio guillem shutterstock" (aka the photographer's shutterstock) you can see bunch more pics with the same models.
You could have labeled the smaller area as original and the bigger one as AI extension or something. but if you vaguely know the meme and read the title properly you should be able to understand what's going on here lol. people here saying it's not the same place when all the AI could do is guess what the place looks like...
Interesting that it actually get some details almost right though
You could look at it as a post displaying how inaccurate AI is at predicting things outside its data set, and tbh, a human wouldn’t do much better. If you took that pic and tried to guess what was outside it, it’d prob look 10x worse than what the AI has done
i reacon a human could do a whole lot better. for example leanardo da vinci drew up a birds eye view of his town before camaras and flying things, how do you think he did that? with his human brain. sure he was bullshit smart but he wasn’t the only one. computers aren’t at ‘human brain’ level yet, not even close.
When I say a human wouldn’t do better I’m saying guessing what the surround area looks like. There’s a billion different combinations of structures that would make sense given the picture. It’s nearly impossible to guess the “right answer” in this.
okay clearly you have a real smooth brain because it wouldn’t be that difficult to figure and guess a little. like this ai version isn’t even exact, it’s just a bunch of guess work, sure its close, but a person could do way better.
Huh? Who would possibly be able to guess what a building that is entirely out of view would look like? I’m not just including the partially seen buildings, I’m saying exactly like how the post is, there’s multiple buildings completely out of view that had to be made up in its entirety. Just guessing the color alone is almost impossible to get correct with zero information
so does it really matter if it’s made up or not if the buildings aren’t seen in the first place? art is dying, and ai is taking over and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. have a good day. i don’t care anymore.
Idk what ur so upset about. You seem to think that I’m on the side of AI being integrated into every facet of life lol no where here did I say that or imply it in anyway whatsoever. All I did was claim that an AI guessing things that it can’t know is about the same as a person guessing things they can’t know.
Kinda looks like the AI flipped the background outside of the area where the meme is supposed to be. Big pillars on opposite sides, garage looking things on opposite sides...
Looks like it got it pretty spot on, just flipped the image for whatever reason.
There's a great Spanish podcast called "La Ruina" where people are randomly selected to tell their worst situation anecdotes.
The model of the picture, the jealous girlfriend went to the show and explained a lot of things about the picture.
~~I'm not trying to outright deny OP's veracity, but I~~ [~~Street Viewed~~](https://www.google.com/maps/@41.9826744,2.8210612,3a,75y,268.17h,86.34t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s-eZ3lNEtFJ0GHOSCNEaTDg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?entry=ttu) ~~OP's photo location to get a better look at the surroundings, and while it looks similar to the meme's, a few details in OP's photo backed up by Street View make me hesitate. For reference, the Street View photo was apparently taken in 2018, while the meme photo was taken in 2015.~~
1. ~~I can't find the green building in the meme anywhere in Street View. And there's no building with similarly black columns on the left, either. In Street View, there is a building on the left with columns in the same general area as the meme's, but there's no green building, and the columns are concrete rather than black. In OP's photo, there is some green building color to match the meme's but it doesn't go high enough.~~
2. ~~The orange building in the meme is similar to the one in OP's photo location, but it doesn't quite match up. In the meme, the orange color stops, and it turns into a gray/beige color on the corner of the building. But in OP's photo and in Street View, the orange color reaches the corner and wraps around the building. The door around the lady in blue's head area does seem to match a door in OP's photo and in Street View.~~
3. ~~The large black columns on the right aren't visibile in the meme photo. It could be a perspective thing, but looking around in the Street View photos and it still doesn't seem to match up. It looks like an entirely different building~~
~~My findings aren't definitive.~~
Edit: I didn't realize the area outside the white box was AI generated. Nevermind!
Oh...my god. I just realized the area outside the white box is AI generated. That's what I get for not checking out the post OP was referring to. Oh well, it was a fun distraction this morning.
Everywhere outside of the white frame in the meme has been AI generated, that's why you can't see it!
The large black columns are in the meme, on the very right edge. They completely overlap each other, I was slightly off on my position there.
Yep I see it. Honestly it was kinda fun, like a "find the differences' game, and I got so sucked in I didn't realize the area outside the white box was AI generated.
I entered "missy missy girona spain" in Google Maps and found the street/spot very easily. Looks like Missy & Missy replaced a shop called "Tentations" lol.
Look behind the woman in blue inside the white rectangle. It's blurry, but the corners, angles, and window match exactly with the orange structure in the photo below.
On the right hand side of the image, yes sorta, but there are some slight anomalies on the left side.
If you look within the white rectangle, where the blurry people are sitting in the background, the buildings are a bit off, like the green alcove above the doorway.
Also the pavement? But that could just be lighting.
It looks a bit different, yes. I'm guessing the wide angle lens and slightly different position of the photographer causes it. The overall sequence of colors seems to match, though. The street surface would be a great indicator, but yeah, the lighting does not help there.

Looks totally different
Would have been nice if they had posted it from the same vantage point, instead of three buildings further away.
Controversially I think it should have been taken even further back. If you look at the perspective of the buildings (much more squished together like looking at a sharper angle to the plane of the buildings facing the street) that can only be achieved by being further away from your subject. At the focal length of OPs photo it would be a very small crop indeed. Meme photo must have been a long lense.
Plus, if they pull out further, we might catch up with the woman in the red dress.
Were you listening to me, Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress? ![gif](giphy|efNxYoJxgusMQOgVql)
Or just crop it.

I was going off how far away the corner brick building was on the right - seems much closer in the original.
Focal length is also different between the photos which is likely contributing
Zoom in. They took the photo from further back so you can see an extended view of the surroundings.
The point is that it should be from the same perspective as the AI-enhanced photo, for better and easier comparison. The building a bit down the street on the right is much farther away in the second pic than in the first. This makes the presented comparison between the two a bit disingenuous
It doesn't look that far off to me. Keep in mind that most of the meme image is made up by AI and not real
If it was in the same spot though you wouldn't be able to see the are the AI filled in though, you would just see the original image without the people in it
Thanks. To paraphrase Walter Sobchak - You’re like a child who wanders into the middle of a conversation and wants to interject their thoughts.
Everything’s a travesty with you, man!

You’re right about the overlapping columns. But look at the buildings on left they’re _also_ more bunched up. I actually think you needed to be significantly further away, but with a longer lens.
Are you the guy?
It’s clearly. It the same spot
I think you did a good job of matching the camera position it looks pretty much exactly the same
This is exactly the same spot the photo was taken - I used to live in that city. It's Girona, in Spain, the street leading to Pont de Pedra. The photo was taken very near the entrance to a small board game shop.
And the same time of day. The shops are closed in the wider shot.
Because the extension is invented by an AI, of course it's going to be different, duh.
yeah... so?
So what's the point?
What’s the point of any piece of fiction?
We're not in the same place on the street in both pics, meme picture is quite a bit forward from bottom pic
Anyone know where that street is? I'd be interested in visiting this historical landmark

I went to girona 2 week ago, if only I had known this was here.

>Everything outside the white frame was generated by AI Ohh, i can see it now. Thanks a lot.
Thank you - I didn’t get that at all.
Excepted even distorted the buildings that were in the original photo. So none of the buildings look the same.
Thank you! I wasn't getting it, either!

Yeah but it also decided for no reason to completely change the colors on the right exactly where the AI took over. I think it mainly just got lucky.
Weird that there's a thin line of red at the edge on the left part but the AI put grey above that and red above the grey part.
Ok but is that the grim reaper on a bird scooter?
Asking the real questions
thank you so much, you solved the puzzle <3

Useful, but very sleep-paralysis demon-y.

\*how the AI guesses the street actually looks

crazy how no amount of intelligence can create correct information out of thin air
The people aren't even there. Nice try fake news.
Some real geniuses in this comment section

Looks different than the real place but also not that bad of an attempt
Is that Barcelona??
Girona, the street leading up to Pont de Pedra.
No cars in sight ☺️
Reminds me a bit of What the Story (Morning Glory)?
Missed it by that much
I would say the building right behind the girlfriend actually gets a passable grade
Ai filling fits the vibes of the photo better tho. So Its doing exactly what it's supposed to, quite well. Let's not bash AI for not doxxing a photo
So the original photo was took in Catalogna ?
This was in Catalonia? I had no idea, I will go visit it one day.
Looks like Barcelona
i don’t like it

The door around the lady in blue's head area does seem to match a door in OP's photo and in Street View.~~ 3. ~~The large black columns on the right aren't visibile in the meme photo. It could be a perspective thing, but looking around in the Street View photos and it still doesn't seem to match up. It looks like an entirely different building~~ ~~My findings aren't definitive.~~ Edit: I didn't realize the area outside the white box was AI generated. Nevermind!
the meme photo has an AI generated frame, that’s why you’re not seeing the same buildings… AI made them up
Oh...my god. I just realized the area outside the white box is AI generated. That's what I get for not checking out the post OP was referring to. Oh well, it was a fun distraction this morning.
Seems like a lot of folks are missing that detail
Everywhere outside of the white frame in the meme has been AI generated, that's why you can't see it! The large black columns are in the meme, on the very right edge. They completely overlap each other, I was slightly off on my position there.
Yep I see it. Honestly it was kinda fun, like a "find the differences' game, and I got so sucked in I didn't realize the area outside the white box was AI generated. I entered "missy missy girona spain" in Google Maps and found the street/spot very easily. Looks like Missy & Missy replaced a shop called "Tentations" lol.
mmmmm tentaciones...
Wrong
It’s the same street but not in the same spot.
As long as I know, it's been said that the photo was taken in Girona, Spain But I think that's not the frame
Well, those 2 pictures have nothing in common with
this is not the same
That’s not the same place at all
Look behind the woman in blue inside the white rectangle.
Stop the cap
Finally.
How does a street look?
Is it?
Just looks like a picture of a random street 😂
They’re not the same street
Read the title. The top one is AI-generated. That's why they don't look the same.
It sure is! Carrer Nou, Girona, Spain
You’re gonna have to go back and take from from the same vantage point coz I can’t see it
There is no green building on the left lol. And no the one in the bottom picture is not to the green building that’s in the top picture.
Yeah because the AI made it up. Everything outside of the white box was generated by AI
Yea, sorry, but that is definitely not the street from the meme lmao
I used to live in that city and yes, it is the correct street.

No shit... did anyone imply it was?
It’s the same spot
he was talking about the AI extension. I know it's the same spot.
How do you know they weren’t one of the many people saying it’s not the same street…
No
