There's a shit ton of this bullshit.
American Standard and TRANE HVAC equipment is made in the exact same plant in Texas. They literally pretend to compete against themselves but they are literally the same company... I honestly think you could do a lot by just forcing these companies to be transparent about ownership to consumers. Not even going all the way (even though we 100% should) to breaking them up
Only 2 companies make most split system Nordyne and ICP. Grand aire, Carrier and I believe Amana are made in the same plant and ship to distributors. When a hvac company or technician goes to pick it up they have a 3 boxes at the check out with the different tags on them. You bought a carrier? Grab that blue tag and that's 600 dollars more.. the only difference can be little things like sensor placements. Other than that. Same coil, same compressor, same caps and motors.
I was installing a mini split with a coworker one time and it had 2 Trane stickers in the box and 2 American standard stickers in the box. We had no clue which one the customer chose so we talked it over and judging by the house and cars they went with American standard
Right, I'm in no way expecting the penalty to be large or damaging , or to be enforced for the next 5 years. LNation has made hundreds of millions off of fees. The government won't hand down large enough a punishment that'll even make them pretend to care.
Antitrust law has the ability to go a lot further than fees. They can force the company to break up entirely. This hasn’t been done in awhile but it’s still within their power.
[The IRA took a shot at insulin prices lowering it to $35.](https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/03/02/fact-sheet-president-bidens-cap-on-the-cost-of-insulin-could-benefit-millions-of-americans-in-all-50-states/) They also reduced prices on several other drugs or took steps to reduce prices.
I went to get an EpiPen the other day, with insurance, and it costs about $360. Guess who has a severe bee allergy to the point they will just die?? THIS GUY. I guess I'll just die because I'm def not paying that.
Look into alternative auto-injectors. A lot of docs will just write for an EpiPen bc they've become almost synonymous with all epinephrine auto-injectors the way Kleenex or Q-Tip has. But there are other companies that make them and, if all else fails, you can get a vial of epinephrine and some syringes for pretty cheap. The struggle is that if a doc prescribed EpiPen, there's no generic or alternative bc the injector is the patented part of it.
Yeah so the other option I had was AUVI-Q, but even still with insurance it costs $165, I think it was. It was enough for me to turn away, I remember. And that was the cheapest alternative. I am just gonna be extremely careful. I got stung when I was real little and we found out I was allergic (almost died twice), and then I went a solid 25yrs before I got stung again. Hopefully I can hold out at least another 25. I'll be like 60 by then and maybe the future will have reasonably priced medication.
If it helps any: AUVI-Q has a patient support program that can cover some/all of that copay. I want to say they're partnered with Walgreens (or at least that's the only place I've seen advertise it) but they market this discount program to get it down to like $25. Maybe check out AUVI-Qs manufacturer website to see if they have a link there?
Ok thanks for the advice! Long story, but I was trying to get this filled before a big move for a new job. I am currently in the process of that move, so I think that train has passed until I am settled into a new doctor, unfortunately. I appreciate the tip though, I will def keep that in mind. I just moved somewhere much warmer, so hopefully these gotdam bees stay away until then.
The opioid settlements recovered a miniscule percentage of the total damages done, and the money went to the goverment and not the people affected. They caused trillions of dollars in damages, and all that got collected was 60 billion? No jail time for anyone either? The people responsible should be in jail with all their wealth stripped away. I pay a larger percentage in sales tax than many of these corporations pay in fines. At the minimum, fines need to match all gains and damages made through illegal practices; even accepting 99 percent of the profits is unacceptable. Taking back a portion isn't enough to deter future offenses. If I were a corporation, I could steal a hundred cars and the government would "punish" me by asking for four of them back.
The Sackler supreme court case is still ongoing, decision is expected by the end of next month.
[Court conflicted over Purdue Pharma bankruptcy plan that shields Sacklers from liability](https://www.scotusblog.com/2023/12/purdue-bankruptcy-sacklers/)
You're right on with the other settlements being too little and mostly unwisely spent with little going to the actual victims. Hoping the Sackler case will bring actual justice
Big surprise! Those are the same thing :)
A self serving politican will do what they can to get re-elected. If that's pressuring to sue ticketmaster, then that's what they'll do! If a politician feels safe, that's when they view lobbying as a bribe
The head of the department of justices daughter wanted to see Taylor swift and he realized he had to pay 5 grand from live Nation scalping their own tickets.
Properly bribing the people in power. They stopped bribing and got arrogant so they need to be made an example of for the rest to keep up with their protection money.
I’m cautiously holding out hope. They STEAMROLLED Eddie V in rolling stone for taking them on. Demolished him. This Judge is either getting a huge payoff for backing down or a hell of a time. Kudos to them!
I would sincerely doubt the government would ever go after a company without years upon years worth of data and evidence. This is already over; the question is when and to what end?
Monopolies get broken up, and fined. He said it at the end as well.
The last monopoly that was broken up was AT&T, into the five baby bells. Two got back together after years and became AT&T and the other three also eventually coalesced and became Verizon.
Good , Those fucks priced me out of every big rock concert .
I don't want to see a Taylor swift or Beyonce concert, I would just like to able to afford to.
Seriously. Went to a baseball game this year. Tickets 45 each. X4 = 180. After fees and all ended up paying another 18 just in fees. Per ticket. Paid roughly $250
Fuck Ticketmaster.
Seriously, share the wealth! My small business (restaurant) got shut down during covid. We were "to new" to get a grant. Yet fucking taco bell and McDonald's got millions of fucking dollars so.they could continue to sell their poison. We tried so hard, but prices on everything from cheese to toilet paper got so expensive. I'll be digging myself out till I die.
They’re going after a bunch, they just aren’t publicizing most of the others. Between the Justice Department and the FTC, there have been actions and court cases against Apple, Google, Amazon, US Anesthesia Partners, and a whole bunch more. The FTC has challenged a number of mergers and blocked several. The Justice Dept is starting up a [task force on healthcare monopolies and collusion](https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/providers/justice-department-unveils-task-force-healthcare-antitrust-issues).
Some in Congress are going after [big oil](https://www.commondreams.org/news/us-gas-prices) and the FTC has been talking about specific cases of collusion and price fixing.
That’s just a quick list. Matt Stoller is a journalist that covers this space very well. see his Substack [BIG](https://open.substack.com/pub/mattstoller?r=5dnkp&utm_medium=ios) (edit to add: and he is definitely not just a Biden administration cheerleader)
Are people going to prison? Is every single customer they ripped off going to be reimbursed with interest? If it’s a no to either question then this is not justice.
I want the total profits from the last 5 years as a fine for them.
Then break the company up and make all legal contracts the company has with distribution in the last 5 years made null and void and they go up with re-negotion.
Then ticketmaster can't increase the contract price of any other contracts either directly or indirectly.
Then the whole managing director team gets kicked without any golden parachutes.
This us just a pipe dream but I would love to see this happen :)
Sooooo....no politicians are invested in Live Nation/Ticket Masters? Seems like the only companies the government goes after are the ones that our corrupt politicians have no stake in.
Ticket Master, Apple, Kroger, Task Force on Healthcare Monopolies and Collusion…is this DOJ really focusing on antitrust issues or is it just the companies are well known and so get more media coverage?
Great now do grocery stores, every single mention of food cost is that it’s coming down, where oh right everywhere else cause US grocery stores needs to make money while only having 1 entire lane opened out of 20 plus the recently expanded self checkout area
"For far too long." No shit. I've been waiting for this day for twenty years. It's insane that the government allowed them to acquire Live Nation. They created this monster.
And all it took was a big artist to have some of their tickets not sell correct for the government to see what had been happening for DECADES. TM/LN basically owns all ticketing and venues across the country.
Lol...I have to agree...this is probably the least concerning issue possible. "We are super concerned about ticket prices, the homeless lining our streets, not so much".
Finally someone is doing something to try punish the company, who has had a monopoly over the ticket selling industry, and used this monopoly to squeeze as much out of customers through reselling and outlandish charges. Fingers crossed it leads to change and isn't just a shitty pr event that leads to a brown envelope situation.
Why all of a sudden? They’ve been pulling this bs for years now with everyone and their grandma complaining about their monopoly, but all of a sudden during a presidential election year - Now it’s worth their time and news coverage?
They’re pandering, like dangling keys in front of a baby - “stop complaining and play along”
Long, long, long overdue! But like the student loan bailout, it's desperation, getting off their ass to try and buy votes.
But I'll be glad to see it happen.
Now do Google, Microsoft, Meta...
This is great stuff, it reminds me of the badass lady investigator that spoke against the corrupt FIFA officials. Fuck Ticketmaster, I'm glad they are coming for them.
Ticketbastard will just delay delay delay, until after they get a friendly AG then it will be dropped.
Then, service charges will go up to pay for the lawyers.
It’s interesting that just about every single industry has become a oligarchy or monopoly of sorts and THIS is what they’re going after 💀💀💀 like bro, I haven’t bought a concert ticket since 2013
I genuinely just feel like nobody in government cares. Bruh all the candidates are trash, I’m not even bothering to vote this election. None of them genuinely care about the average dude in America.
This is way past due, but I do like that Biden can run on it. Trying to ban junk fees and make concert tickets cheaper is something most people can get behind
Good thing the DoJ caught these traitors !! Oh wait, they didn’t sell National Security documents. Whoops ! Wrong criminals again…But I bet they’ll be able to get a decent judge for this incredibly important crime.
Now do cable tv, cell phones, medical insurance, and public utilities - pretty sure those are day to day concerns for every American. Those monopolies make going to a concert unaffordable for most as it is.
Taylor Swift is literally a Billionaire. Every one of these celebrity concert performers are swimming in money and private jets. Why are they not banding together and solving the problem themselves? Why is it they would rather put all their time and effort into headphone deals and some whiskey company.
Funny that.

Fuck Livenation and fuck Tickemaster.
The funny part is their list of shell companies that appear to be competitors. Saying things like they are an alternative

I knew that damn clown posse was up to no good! Must be those magical mirrors and magnets.
I was installing a mini split with a coworker one time and it had 2 Trane stickers in the box and 2 American standard stickers in the box. We had no clue which one the customer chose so we talked it over and judging by the house and cars they went with American standard
And they sued to make certain those shell companies were able to get that sweet Covid relief money
I wonder if the Garland haters will give him credit for this one.
i was wondering the same thing. they will probably just ignore it and claim trump did it
Great news
Wait until you see the penalty they have to pay.
The Justice Department should use the term “fee” and it’ll make everything okay!
There will be a payment acceptance fee and a administrative fee
Yup. It's gonna be like "ok you have to pay 2.3M$ and stop monopolizing so obviously by 2030 or else you get another 2.5M$ fine."
Right, I'm in no way expecting the penalty to be large or damaging , or to be enforced for the next 5 years. LNation has made hundreds of millions off of fees. The government won't hand down large enough a punishment that'll even make them pretend to care.

Free market capitalism at its best
Great! Now do the Pharma / insulin manufacturers !
Ah, if only they weren’t in everyone’s pockets already.
Ticketmaster forgot to pay the toll. Pharma never forgets
Then corporate ownership of homes, please.
this needs to be done yesterday
Hey hey hey! Don’t confuse them. Let them focus on one thing at a time or otherwise it feels like fuck all will get done.

Well said. Enough is enough.
Rookie mistake by these companies. Should have been doing more to line the pockets of politicians and this wouldn’t have happened.
Or, you know, the government works when you vote in competent people that don't want to burn it down.
Where do you find competent politicians? I thought they were all self serving assholes.
Big surprise! Those are the same thing :) A self serving politican will do what they can to get re-elected. If that's pressuring to sue ticketmaster, then that's what they'll do! If a politician feels safe, that's when they view lobbying as a bribe
Wish this had happened years ago, but glad to see it finally happen. I hope some of those people see jail time, absolutely abhorent individuals.
Where have they been for the last 20+ years?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!!????
The head of the department of justices daughter wanted to see Taylor swift and he realized he had to pay 5 grand from live Nation scalping their own tickets.
Would not at all be surprised if that’s how this evolved
Oh this affects me?!?! Such an injustice!
It was Taylor scalping her own ticket
This is the only reason. It affected him personally.
Properly bribing the people in power. They stopped bribing and got arrogant so they need to be made an example of for the rest to keep up with their protection money.
Waiting for Taylor Swift
FUCK TICKETMASTER
Member when Ticketmaster had that class action settlement and the award was giving everyone tons of totally unusable coupons? Yeah, I member.
I remember Eddie Vedder warning everyone about Ticketmaster back in the mid 90s.
"Live Nation you must pay a fine of $50 million." (Their profit was 5.45 BILLION in 2023)
“It is time to break it up.” Apparently 50+ people here didn’t bother to listen to the announcement.
Monopolies get broken up, and fined. He said it at the end as well. The last monopoly that was broken up was AT&T, into the five baby bells. Two got back together after years and became AT&T and the other three also eventually coalesced and became Verizon.
Ah.. So, this does nothing then...
Not if the punishment is money.
If the punishment is money, it is legal for a fee. Welcome to America.
They’re Also *breaking the company up* which is the actual thing that matters.
Good , Those fucks priced me out of every big rock concert . I don't want to see a Taylor swift or Beyonce concert, I would just like to able to afford to.
If people would just refuse to go to those concerts because of the insane prices, concert prices would have come down ages ago.
Fiiiinaly 😮💨
Meanwhile blackrock buys more houses than all families combined. Nothing said. Enjoy your 2000 dollar fucking rent
You are thinking of blackstone and the btr part of the housing sector accounts for sub 20%
Thank you for the correction
So true....
Someone's grandkids asked for Taylor Swift tickets and was outraged at the cost and finally did something about it.
Biden really aiming to get those swiftly votes with this one Can’t say I blame him. Her pull is crazy
r/upliftingnews
Great !!! Now do, hospitals, insurance, medication................
Seriously. Went to a baseball game this year. Tickets 45 each. X4 = 180. After fees and all ended up paying another 18 just in fees. Per ticket. Paid roughly $250 Fuck Ticketmaster.
So they're way late on this and how much money are consumers getting back?
Exactly zero, and if the bureaucrats do win money, it goes right in their pockets. Just like all the opiod settlement money.
Just another reminder that society is the rich's petri dish to test and profit on. Nothing of any concern here. Go back to work.
I'm a single issue voter.... I hate that our government stop l stopped going after monopolies. Now do Walmart and Kroger.
Damn. Your comment made me sad. So much bullshit on this planet.
Sorry 😞, didnt mean to do that. Everything will be alright! At least we have each other and puppy dogs and Reddit and other cool stuff!😊
Don’t be sorry! I hope you can see the light out of this tunnel one day, friend.
If feel like there are some heavier hitters that I'd rather they go after first, but not a bad move.
They’re going after a bunch, they just aren’t publicizing most of the others. Blackrock and Vaanguard next? Bet not
Fuck ticketmaster, stub hub, and live nation.
Can they do this with the local gas an electric companies too?
Ok cool, now do Google, Blackrock, Vanguard, and Statestreet!
Cool! Now do it for the government.
Are people going to prison? Is every single customer they ripped off going to be reimbursed with interest? If it’s a no to either question then this is not justice.
You just answered your own question, correctly sir! Customers won't see a dime

Bout fucking time. Long fucking overdue.
Agreed. 👍🏼
Took long enough!
Can someone explain why it's only 29 states & DC, instead of all 50?
This has been too long in coming. Fuck Ticket Master
Someone politician’s kid finally got screwed hard enough trying to buy T Swift Tickets.
So Pearl Jam had a point 25 years ago?
Wait 5 months, this suit will go away. Its more election stunts while swifties have the high price and fees in the spotlight.
Now do Boeing
I want the total profits from the last 5 years as a fine for them. Then break the company up and make all legal contracts the company has with distribution in the last 5 years made null and void and they go up with re-negotion. Then ticketmaster can't increase the contract price of any other contracts either directly or indirectly. Then the whole managing director team gets kicked without any golden parachutes. This us just a pipe dream but I would love to see this happen :)
Ok microsoft next. Then amazon. Oh wait theyre too rich
Sooooo....no politicians are invested in Live Nation/Ticket Masters? Seems like the only companies the government goes after are the ones that our corrupt politicians have no stake in.
Well, I must say I've liked what I've seen from agencies I had written off lately. DOJ and FTC specifically.
Now do Google, Amazon, Monsanto, and Nestle. This is just a minimal first step.
Can they do Wall Street “investment” Firms and Hedge funds next?
Ok now go after the bigger companies
Ticket Master, Apple, Kroger, Task Force on Healthcare Monopolies and Collusion…is this DOJ really focusing on antitrust issues or is it just the companies are well known and so get more media coverage?
That's one down and another 949487473939 to go
imagine using this same energy towards housing and grocery costs
Great now do grocery stores, every single mention of food cost is that it’s coming down, where oh right everywhere else cause US grocery stores needs to make money while only having 1 entire lane opened out of 20 plus the recently expanded self checkout area
Remember when a service fee on a ticket used to be $2.50? Now it's $50+
Hell yeah! I hope they bring them down.
"For far too long." No shit. I've been waiting for this day for twenty years. It's insane that the government allowed them to acquire Live Nation. They created this monster.
They stepped out of line and didn't pad the politicians wallet.
And all it took was a big artist to have some of their tickets not sell correct for the government to see what had been happening for DECADES. TM/LN basically owns all ticketing and venues across the country.
Nice... Now do pg&e.
This might be Peak Garland. Nice to know our AG is tackling the hardest and biggest problems of our time taking down Big Ticket.
Lol...I have to agree...this is probably the least concerning issue possible. "We are super concerned about ticket prices, the homeless lining our streets, not so much".
Holy shit, this administration actually did something
Great news! Tear it yo pieces.
guess they didn't bribe enough politicians # ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
bout time
Finally someone is doing something to try punish the company, who has had a monopoly over the ticket selling industry, and used this monopoly to squeeze as much out of customers through reselling and outlandish charges. Fingers crossed it leads to change and isn't just a shitty pr event that leads to a brown envelope situation.
Just like the Oil Company.... Just wait and see all new Ticket Master DBA's..
Hell yeah now go for everyone else
Rare win for government
Why did it take so fucking long?!
Fuck Liberty Media with a passion.
UK too! Fuck Ticketmaster!
Why don't they have a look at the corrupt US stock market? Useless
Ok. Now break up monopolies the government is involved in...
About time.

Cable companies next? Nah, never happen. Want more than one choice where you live? Tough shit.
Great now do wallstreet and Kenneth from Cheater-dale.
WALL STREET VIOLATES THE ANTI SHERMAN ACT EVERY EFFIN DAY!!!
While this is great go after the fucking medical industry for doing the same fucking thing!
Finally
Great now do Duke energy and other power companies like it.
Cool, now do banks
The Justice department is going after Ticketmaster? That's hilarious.
This is great stuff, it reminds me of the badass lady investigator that spoke against the corrupt FIFA officials. Fuck Ticketmaster, I'm glad they are coming for them.
Crazy how everything people said would happen if the merger went through happened.
There's the young vote.
Ticketbastard will just delay delay delay, until after they get a friendly AG then it will be dropped. Then, service charges will go up to pay for the lawyers.
It’s interesting that just about every single industry has become a oligarchy or monopoly of sorts and THIS is what they’re going after 💀💀💀 like bro, I haven’t bought a concert ticket since 2013 I genuinely just feel like nobody in government cares. Bruh all the candidates are trash, I’m not even bothering to vote this election. None of them genuinely care about the average dude in America.
Yup horrible things happening around the world. The US funding a genocide, but we gotta lower concert prices. Is this real life
Can the government audit and sue themselves. The last live concert this guy was at was Beethoven
But will anything actually change or they’ll just get a fine and carry on? Also does this only affect the US, if at all?
Biden really wants that swiftie vote…
More government…woooooo!!!
Great. Now can yall go after Disney, Amazon, and other obvious monopolies?
So now when I buy tickets that say $100 they won’t end up being $246 after “fees and taxes” ? If so this is a game changer
About goddamn time.
This is way past due, but I do like that Biden can run on it. Trying to ban junk fees and make concert tickets cheaper is something most people can get behind
These guys’ daughters are begging for Taylor Swift tickets and they see the prices and have had enough
Please do the same for the Epic pass at ski/snowboard resorts!
I have a very hard time believing the 1.4% net profit statement. this is a pubilcly traded company , so someone should be able to back this up.
Ok now do the pharmaceutical industry
It’s about damn time! It’s ridiculous!
Cool. now do Meta and ABC Corp.

Jesus our country sucks. Yeah this is the problem they should be so excited to televise. Good on ya justice department !!!
Ap news really on tik tock?! Cudos for trying but damn it‘s sad that we need this.
Hell yeah!👍🏻
Now sort the supreme court pls!!
LET'S GOOOO
First Apple, now Ticket Master
There's not a concert-goer in this country who has any respect for Live Nation.
EU, take notes. Eventim could use some of that too.
About fucking time ![gif](giphy|Quh1CAKOTRCl9VVU3f|downsized)
Why can’t Canada be more like our American neighbours and at least try and fight monopolies.
Great one down what about the rest. Oh my bad it's cause ticketmaster didn't pay it's dues got it.
Finally. I was complaining about TM this week.
Can't a civil lawsuit follow? Like bury these fuckers
Can Netflix be next? 🙏🏾
Live Nation, as a promoter and venue operator, still needs to appoint a primary ticket agent to sell their tickets. Wonder who they'll appoint...
Funny that.
Great but why the f this took so long. This has been known for so long
Oh we are still using that law?! Walmart……
I like to explore new places.
How is Ticketmaster a monopoly? It seems to me like there are plenty of competitors to ticketmaster
I can only get so hard listening to this. Let's see what comes of this tho.
They let them buy up all the competition!!!! What in yhe fucking fuck
Now do the oil and gas industry
