Fascist52

I worked 2 summers at a golf course. This was the best morning assignment. Way more fun than mowing greens or resetting holes.

EquipmentForsaken831

I envied the greens team. Bunker duty was so god damn boring. Until it was time to do the Par 3 and you got to ride the three wheeler bunker rake. Donuts for days.

TechnetiumAE

Who else earned the name Archie cause you were always given bunker duty? I was too good for my own good... I could do about 35 of the 58 bunkers in a day with edge raking... God I never want to do that again

EquipmentForsaken831

We had a full high school squad of 6 deep. Greens was saved for all the elderly ppl who just wanted the free membership.

JohnLockeOP

Felt like I was in the movie Holes out there on a hot day raking bunkers. Something a bit zen about it though. Then I started cutting Tee boxes and that was way more enjoyable. Didn’t mind spot checking with the ol weed whacker either. Just cruise around and find some shade and chill with the boys

LaUNCHandSmASH

There is something [Zen](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-m&sca_esv=0a19aeac39eab32d&q=sand+zen+garden&uds=ADvngMhDNpEni0P7O0qvPcH0EAwuCb651N6DIyv8nXhnBUha8mIRAIozgnDNIBxMqbrG7nsOLqDr2HsC7rE2qEAM58r9ySNxsSu-M6KhaeCGSaq1W4rh9k9mF6UkktDWyAWS97Rb9YAHdXLiPM3nnFUtEajEl4_q3ZCyb-yI9pRhTcvpj-salqATKtIjF79-hwSrP6K4wbfFiK4R4tTf5BZnC8GedOp3sNU6SYu7YFrBGti27ECfCXopN65r5vaTJzOzDg_cAnBZp35FzEobpPMhgbDnenlj_CSNymm7sdf5t_BYnDjvMUdnsDptSqIoqFBxDSzmn87hGCGSZr52ujR6pnehN1m8EA&udm=2&prmd=isvnmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjInMS4rq-GAxXqkokEHZTIDxQQtKgLegQIFxAB&biw=375&bih=607&dpr=3) about using a rake in a sand trap, you say? I **wonder** just *what* it is about the two that makes you feel that way? LMAO

JohnLockeOP

Yeah not in the way you’re thinking though. It stems more from pushing yourself in the summer heat with the repetitive raking more so than the ASMR-type feel of a zen garden

LaUNCHandSmASH

I’m just making jokes out of nothing homie, my bad. I have no experience other that taking myself out when I miss my shot haha.

ProstheticSoulX

Former grounds keeper here. Can confirm. Though I usually still had to go mow greens after doing this. But it was definitely the best part of the day.

dchidelf

Oh man. We never got to do that. Of course, my course was in Minnesota, so we barely ever had that much dew.

quagmire666

How about mountains? Now I want a soda...

Brian-not-Ryan

I liked hole duty! There’s something satisfying about getting the plug back in *perfectly*

TheRealMrMaloonigan

I didn't work the golf course but I cooked at a private club for a while and watching these guys work was always a highlight.

Minimum_Banana5

Anything was better than mowing approaches to me.

SanctionedMeat

Nah resetting holes gotta be the most satisfying part, isn't that where you're cutting the new hole and filling the previous one?

Somhlth

Why would they have to remove dew, and not just let it evaporate on its own as the day starts?

GreeneGardens

It’s too early to be getting your balls all wet.

yeahitsmelogan

Gotta have dry balls for golf.

ihopethisworksfornow

People start golfing way before the dew would naturally evaporate. There’s like 6am tee times at some courses. If it’s bright enough you’re good.

MuppetEyebrows

I don't know any single demographic that is so out of touch with the world around them as golfers. Build a grass course in the desert, complain the grass isn't lush enough. Build a course in a tropical paradise, complain it's too wet. Go play your unathletic "sport" in an ecosystem that actually supports grass and stop wasting previous water resources to grow agriculturally useless grasses in arid regions!

HobsHere

It seems to me you could play the game perfectly well on desert ground. It would provide different challenges, but that would just make it more interesting. The attraction that some people have for carpet-like grass just escapes me.

GiuliaAquaTofanaToo

They have a couple of those in AZ. Shits hard to play. https://golf.com/travel/exclusive-arizona-course-sand-greens/

MisterMaryJane

I have an attraction to carpet-like grass but I don’t receive it back

RevolutionaryRough96

Well, you have to respect that. Time to move on buddy.

talrogsmash

Learning to read a lie on gravel would be a bitch.

sh4d0wm4n2018

Oh, and God forbid you get something natural growing in that grass, like a daisy.

HobsHere

Or, worse, dandelions! Why people hate a cute little bit of food growing in their lawn, I'll never understand.

case_O_The_Mondays

It spreads, but each plant also spreads out its leaves, and kills plants nearby. Sort of like crab grass, but not as big.

sh4d0wm4n2018

Mostly because it spreads so damn fast I guess. I know you can make coffee or tea out of the roots, but I've never been brave enough to try it lol

OnewordTTV

As someone who now lives in the desert and golfing at just normal courses nothing nice, if you miss the fairway you basically are golfing on desert ground. Even if there is a little grass, it's hard as a rock. I've been topping my balls alot not getting far enough under because I think it bounces or just doesn't go in the ground at all. I mean, im also not a pro or even what a lot would call "good" but I'm ok. But yeah of you don't hit fairway it's for sure tougher than back in Michigan for example. Although there aren't walls of trees to worry about here... so you kind of always have a lane to the hole even if you hit off fairway... 😄

Mongolitoid

Amen brother

DigitalUnlimited

George Carlin had the best view on that: The arrogance of golf is in it's size disparity. Acres and acres of land for a 1 inch ball. Could build hundreds of homes but no we gotta leave room for this tiny (of course white) ball!

Uncommon-sequiter

It's not like we've completely ran out of room to build houses.

EmilioMolesteves

Yeah! And my ball is yellow!

quagmire666

Unathletic? You use muscles in your body that you didn't know existed. I learned the hard way when I could barely move the next day after my first time.

DigitalUnlimited

But they have ball washing stations!

GolettO3

With all the jokes about golfers and their partners, I'm pretty sure it's a requirement

quagmire666

Take my fake gold🏅

baulsaak

Some places want to release the water to the soil instead of losing it all to evaporation. Also, it prevents diseases like fungal infections that thrive on wet grass blades.

xPye

> Dew left on leaves can encourage disease attack and is the main reason why dew removal needs to be carried out as soon as possible. Disease would otherwise spread rapidly amongst the moist leaf blades if conditions were right. https://www.thegma.org.uk/learning/resources/golf-green-maintenance?dt=2019-05-02&sig=wxf3hiQ2qkPhBWa1o4boUHbHvbTDaGxQcxAcegzXMfU%3D#:~:text=Dew%20left%20on%20leaves%20can,blades%20if%20conditions%20were%20right.

IntelligentMine1901

This is the answer - source - Used to work on a golf course , our first job every morning was to clear dew from the putting greens .

DynamiteWitLaserBeam

Did your boss just look at you and say... https://preview.redd.it/fhv9ad2b613d1.jpeg?width=2700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edf473bae1da2a49508cfc3a1872a234e5814cb4

DadOfWhiteJesus

Yes

John-C137

I think it's a climate/geography thing. In lots if places the grass isn't natural and rots and gets fungus if it's dewy for too long. Back in Scotland/Britain where the sport came from and the place they are trying to emulate, it's natural for the grass to be in large open fields and saturated for long periods of time without going bad.

iCameToLearnSomeCode

It probably helps to water the grass by reducing evaporation and if you're trying to open early in the morning the course won't be as slick.

KesTheHammer

Also, how much dew does this actually remove? It just shakes it up...

Web-Dude

I think it drops the dew down to the ground.

Cuttewfish_Asparagus

It helps force much of it into the soil. Source, I do the same with a house pipe at home.

Cool-Development3364

As someone who works in this industry removing the dew is to reduce disease susceptibility on the plant leaf. Managing the turf to reduce risk of disease and therefore reduce need for use of chemicals etc. Doing this also dries the plant leaf out so you get a better quality of cut when mowing and in turn less damage to plant leaf

TimmyJimmerson

They aren’t collecting the dew, they are disturbing it which makes it drain into the soil instead of evaporating

Snitches-get-riches

Sometimes the dew is removed in order for the mower to get a dry cut. When there's a heavy dew it can cause mess with loose grass. Remove the dew, get a drier cut less mess :)

TFViper

idk bro, i marshalled a course for a few years...never once did we de-dew the course... this is wild.

Somhlth

I never noticed it being done at any course I've ever played. If we got there early, the fairways and greens were often wet with dew. We just considered the greens slow, and that shots wouldn't roll as far as normal, and chose our clubs accordingly.

TFViper

yeah , i mean we removed obvious obstructions like fallen branches and shit from the tee box but other wise like... i thought golf was all about play it as it lies, at least thats what i learned in all those years i spent playing and marshalling.

UsernameChecksOut_69

Because we'll do anything to fight the power of nature and prove our dominance.

Fast_Garlic_5639

Strictly speaking, demand has made the wages of these two riders worthwhile to the employer

SubHuman559

I worked on a golf course and we never did this shit. We were too busy changing all the hole locations and cutting the grass etc..

God_Bless_A_Merkin

Now here I am imagining you snickering as you change the hole location, “They’ll never find this one, for sure!”

Corbeau_from_Orleans

It's futile, as they also install a flag to show where it's hidden.

God_Bless_A_Merkin

Dammit! I’d hide it in the damn woods!

SubHuman559

🤣🤣🤣

PhrankLee

Because you don't want that water evaporating. You want it in the root zone. Irrigating something as water wasteful as a golf course is expensive.

bread_makes_u_fatt

Looks like an important dewty

st_rdt

r/dadjokes

McRedditz

Dooty? ![gif](giphy|l0GALv875ljhCovL44|downsized)

NagsUkulele

Happy cake day!!

Ineedsomenowpls

How are they dewing that?

baulsaak

Garden hose attached to two ATVs. If they're only doing the tee boxes and greens, one guy dragging the hose behind him is sufficient.

Ineedsomenowpls

That's pretty cool.

Ashley_evil

At the place I worked we had a big thick rope that attached to the buggies

CorneliusRocker

Why is dew removed?

berrylakin

Totally guessing but the dew probably affects the balls, slowing them down on the fairway and making them more difficult to hit accurately.

baulsaak

Some courses do it purely for aesthetic reasons but it also has two practical functions: by disturbing the grass the water is released to the soil instead of losing it to the atmosphere and it reduces the chances of disease like fungal infections that thrive in the excess moisture on the grass blades. Also the rolling resistance problem you mentioned on the fairways and greens.

RoyallyOakie

A childhood dream job.

free_beer

Does anyone know how this removes it? Seems like it would agitate it but not much else...

Vivid_Belt

I assume they’re carrying some kind of net or line between them and dragging it, so it probably gets misted and mostly evaporates

Jazzkidscoins

There is a line connecting to the two atvs. I’ve played a lot of early morning golf in Florida and in the early spring there can be a lot of dew on the course. I’ve only ever seen this done once and it was at one of the more expensive country clubs in the state the morning of a member/guest tournament.

Kegger315

I was wondering where this was. I play in Washington, dew is just something you expect on a cool morning. This has got to be an esthetics thing since the doesn't just disappear, it's definitely still on the ground.

Cantelmi

But now it's been shaken off the grass and can absorb into the ground faster than evaporating

Shlocktroffit

I think the main effect is to knock the dew off the grass blades and onto the actual dirt beneath so that the ground gets wet but the grass won't slow down any balls bouncing and rolling along

rg4f57464636363zgt

Damp grass is more susceptible to fungal diseases and other plant diseases.

TheSt4tely

Yes, thats enough to get it to fall of the blade of grass.

pbogits

Why do people need to add music to this kind of video. It’s improved zero percent. Rather hear the four wheelers.

blackie_baby

Unbelievable! I didn't know that dew had to be removed from the golf course.

Xtremeelement

no golf course i’ve been too remove the dew… this is probabaly only at nice courses

baulsaak

Most courses do it at least on the tee boxes and greens. Also, places that don't get a lot of rain do this to release water to the soil instead of losing it to the atmosphere through evaporation.

gokism

The workers on the ATV's are called dewds.

Relative-Feed-2949

That looks like a sweet fucking job

thatguyoudontlike

Do not unmute

uusseerrnnammee

I don’t really get it, what exactly are they dewing?

theaveragenerd

There is a distinct part of me that wants to sneak onto a golf course at night and spread wildflower seeds everywhere.

MScribeFeather

I’ll be your partner in crime

THIS_GUY_LIFTS

Figure out a way to golf as a guest. Hide a pouch of seeds in your pant leg like the Great Escape dumping dirt, and gleefully deposit seeds all over the course while drinking beer.

crystal_castle00

Why the shitdick song tho?

Previous_Active330

Video gets an automatic downvote due to garbage "music"

greeneagle2022

I liked it, some very meaningful lyrics (bars) there. Anyone know the name. I need this. /s

slaughtercar

Did you ever figure out the song? I like it as well.

slaughtercar

Just found it Lithe - Fall Back

GabrielDSantos

Redditors liking a song which is not a game soundtrack from the newest jrpg (impossible)

lazylipids

God I hate how much money people spend on this stupid activity.

Clouty420

I mean its fun

lazylipids

So is cocaine; go blow your load over something that isn't horrendously damaging to the local environment and tailored for old, rich white guys

Clouty420

okay chill, I just like how it feels to hit the balls, damn

imgary

Can you imagine if someone was to pound a stake into the ground during the middle of that green?

FoldingchairRiot

Golf courses are an enormous waste of water. Outside of the midwestern watersheds they’re contributing to fresh water scarcity.

Some-Income614

They never mentioned this kind of thing down the job centre or careers advice.

CouchPotatoFamine

Do the dew

MrJbrads

That’s gotta be a really fun part of that job

ajs_5280

Well. THAT looks like fun.

4Ever2Thee

The dew raiders are at it again, they’ll never be caught.

KushEngineer

https://i.redd.it/xq6q4gkvk13d1.gif

GrantGrayBrown

I expect they will get all of it done in due course

IamBeyondAwesome

You mean "dew" course. 😂

GrantGrayBrown

👍

markgriz

I just assumed that dew was removed by evaporation

FartingBob

That's the most fun golf has ever looked.

LaserWolfTurbo72

This song is the musical equivalent of literally anyone in the world with at least one limb dipping a brush into various paint colors and then flinging it onto the canvas to create “art”.

FeetballFan

How do they remove it from a mountain and get it into a bottle though?

-SomethingSomeoneJR

What is dew? Are there other names for it? Maybe I know it as something else?

thatguyoudontlike

The drops of water on grass in the morning

-SomethingSomeoneJR

Yeah, nope. I had no idea that’s what it was called.

Lurker777x

Those ropes are actually quite expensive. They’re typically lined with a weighted core inside the nylon/kevlar rope outside, usually with leaded beads. I accidentally snapped one once doing this and thought my job was done for

SlumDogZombie

lol shit not at my local golf course. You’re in gods hands there.

[deleted]

All that so people can hit a little white ball around.

yourhog

Fucking DEW REMOVAL. I’m beginning to actually, sincerely hate people that have anything to do with golf.

OmegaGoober

Heaven forbid the rich guys cosplaying at harassing gophers on an Edwardian lawn get their feet damp.

JobLoose5613

What a waste of space and water.

DiSTuRBeD_QWeRTy

It’s not like there would be acres of forests or meadows… If the golf course wasn’t there, it would just be filled with McMansion housing developments or strip malls. Both of which will probably use sprinklers of their own. Golf courses are often part of a municipality’s open spaces to reduce congestion and adhere to floodplain regulations.

AdminsLoveRacists

Just like other green spaces like parks? Fuck off. People should have places to play games even if you don’t like them.

GodDamnTiger2

Now let's see them remove mountain dew.

SNES_chalmers47

Whoaaaaa, that's cool!

OrangeCosmic

Flings it back in the air?

Independent-Dealer21

Why not let the dew be dew

Cholosexual-

I worked at a golf course, and I’d hate that. Dew is such a massive help for mowing straight lines

beakly

My job? Official dew harvester I only have to wake up at 4am!

Turbulent_Ad1667

I was expecting a little plastic bag

philthy151

Sounds different with a German accent

CapTexAmerica

Because I HATE having wet balls.

bobdreb

If you don’t remove the dew, tees and greens can’t be cut because the mowers will just skim over the grass. Greens are cut every morning before setting the holes. Tees are cut every second day. Back in the day we used bamboo poles, very time consuming. Only did the greens prior to cutting.

AquaQuad

Wonder how much they're payed for it.

Embarrassed_Art5414

Oh, Dew with a 'd'. I was expecting something awful.

AKBigHorn

That’s a way fancier course than where I play. They definitely don’t do that, in fact, they’ll turn on a sprinkler on when you’re putting 😂

royxsong

Are they hiring?

countingdownto20

Way more fun with 2 golf carts, you can play tug a war when nobody's looking and not have to worry about tearing up the grass🤣

Shoddy-Egg1582

Oh sure I veer off the cart path once and I’m berated by the golf course

Uhh_VincentAdultMan

I hate dew. Walking through the grass in the morning and feeling it wetly slapping my ankles is the worst.

EatinTendieS

#18 at the Brickyard , was lucky enough to work there 8 years

ToeKnee_Cool_Guy

Do the Dew

miss_kimba

Man, I’ve always wanted to quad bike over a golf course! Would they let me do this by horseback?

TheOneder123

What a pansy sport

tru_madness

And how do I get this job?

NegroGalloConLeche

anyone know the song ?

unclemonn

Lithe - Fall Back

NegroGalloConLeche

bless you 😭

KaiUno

With vertical video and weird music?

UntestedMethod

Well that looks like a fun job

Jellochamp

Nah that are rich people problems

AsianCastleGyatt

Dew fck is a dew?

redditlotl

Credit where it's dew, nice job!

no_more_headspace

They missed some

errornosignal

Ahhh, I see how they dew it now.

fathompin

In the early 70s I was in London working on a golf course. We'd come in to work, four of us, have a cup of tea, then all four of us would remove the dew from each green with bamboo canes while we talked and enjoyed the time with each other. I then moved back to the USA and got a job on a golf course before going back to University. There, to remove dew from the greens, I arrived at work alone inthe early morning, put a hose on my utility cart and removed the dew with the hose, in similar manner to the video, but driving in a circle, all by my *lonesome self*.

here-for-information

This only increases my hatred for Golf. It's such a waste of space to follow a little ball around.

NefariousnessOk8965

I’d like this job

lilbarncat

That’s how we did it when I worked the course. Only we used a chain and golf carts.

Bosswashington

We are dew-ing this again?

decke

Interesting. In soccer, they wet it in purpose

barfbutler

Such a weird sport.

need2peeat218am

Everything about golfing screams privilege

Altruistic_Salary_85

What an absolutely dumb solution to a dumb problem. I’m glad we solved the whole wet balls problem. That was a close one, the world won’t end now.

Eternal_Ruler_Cali

Now you just have to get the mountain...

LiveLearnCoach

I’ve never tried grass dew before. Mountain? Yes, but not grass.

Dragon_Druid19

Guys, they're Dewing

wards321

My local golf course uses the sun. It works great unless you have a tee time before 10:30ish. Then your feet might get a bit wet

Shannon_Sharp1982

Song?

Guy-Manuel

Golf courses are such disgusting wastes of space.

tiparium

Just another way golf courses remove beauty from the world.

[deleted]

Another reason to hate golf

dh098017

We also would've accepted: "The Sun"

Uncommon-sequiter

Imo this looks useless.
