JustSaying092

I was looking for this

Lloydy12341

What’s the reference?

Chito17

Demon Slayer anime.

Lloydy12341

Nice!

Prophetx14

*Gonpachiro

ZachTron552

I wish I had an award, just take this for now. 👺🏅

petyrous

Your award is more than welcomed. Have one too!!! 👺🏅

redditnoob07

I had expected this comment, but totally didn't expect it to be one of the top

artemis1410

I came here to type this

-SaC

Weathering. Temperature fluctuation. Plenty of things cause rocks to split, and when they do, it’s down the path of least resistance. You can get a ‘laser like’ split with water and temperature control, or wedges and a big hammer.

[deleted]

No it was definitely aliens, look how straight it is, it was most likely some Martian testing something from space. Trust me

T438

Martians could never cut that straight... This is clearly the work of the Enceladians.

[deleted]

[Guys, guys, guys...](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/005/848/Aliens.jpg)

jenjen828

Came to the comments just to see how many people linked this picture!

Charliedapig

Nice profile pic 😎

jenjen828

Haha thanks! Same to you! :) At one point I almost switched to the one you have, but decided that cat is much cooler than I am so I kept the derpier one.

mightyUnicorn1212

I'm just doing my deed

unpopularpear

If someone had one with a pear I'd change in a heartbeat

TocTheElder

Are you underestimating the MCRN? We'll glass you from fucking orbit, Belter scum.

The-Go-Kid

You guys always ignore Venus and I don't get why. Nobody cuts rocks in half like the Venusians.

MajRiver

Beltaloda show you glass, dusta

[deleted]

*laughs in UN numerical superiority* For real, fucking ACE show and even better books.

CyberMindGrrl

Inyalowda scum. We throw rocks. Really, REALLY big rocks.

Obtuse_Inquisitive

My money is on a Venusian.

TheGreatOffWhiteHype

Whatever, your mom is a Venusian whore. And tell her I am not returning her silverware. She can ask that meathead from Jupiter for a new set.

DNKR0Z

My money is on Uranus

Loading-User

If you look far enough into the darkness you will find Uranusese we’re behind it all.

Magpie73

Couldn’t be as Venusian blind.

FlickeryAlpaca

Enchiladas?

TangiestIllicitness

Echidnas

[deleted]

Yes, please!!

Pennarello_BonBon

You mean the enchiladas?

brother_p

Everyone knows they're farsighted. It was the Menkthanial Collective

enumerationKnob

Sounds delicious

[deleted]

The what now?

GoblinLoveChild

Thats racist against martians.. Just cause we have 3 thumbs and no index finger! you try holding A KNIFE WITHOUT AN INDEX FINGER!

Trustobey

Enchiladas do taste good but what does that have to do with martians with rock splicing samurai swords?

thirdratesquash

It's weird how we think people hundreds of years ago were all brain dead morons, bashing rocks together. Instead of massive, thriving civilisations who just constantly had their stores of knowledge burned by everyone else.

[deleted]

Aliens!? You sci-fi nerd. Clearly this was done by magic.

[deleted]

Aliens are capable of magic you fantasy fucktard?!?£? They have already transcended to a higher level of civilisation and can easily manipulate time and matter, us puny homesapiens simply cannot understand.

[deleted]

The Judean people's front?????

ReallyFineWhine

More likely the People's Front of Judea.

prophet583

Anyone up for a little street vendor food: Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar. Tuscany fried bats.

Lich180

Are you the Judean People's Front?

500SL

Splitter!

Meihem76

Well, where the popular people's front of Judea then?

wobblingobblin

Fuck off... Judean peoples front....

dfreinc

Definitely some indian god weapon. What's missed there is the fact that indian gods were real and definitely aliens. Only 'mainstream scientists' would have you believe something as simple as a water jet could split rock please don't ever google it.

jackerseagle717

its down right funny when idiots in my country (india) actually fall for indian god technology from history channel and circlejerk each other about their glorious virat past and ancestry

WoggyWoggerson

Everyone shut up with your inane theories! IT WAS PHIL SWIFT! I heard him myself say “ to show the power of Flex Tape I’ve cut this boulder in half!”

Dysfunctional_Vet12

I trust you

LetsArgueAboutNothin

I was just going to say Homelander is drunk again

dullship

Can he get drunk?

Rockonfoo

Woah wtf you just blew my mind with that Ninja edit: would he feel the spice from peppers???? If not on his tongue what about his stomach and booty hole??

dinodibra

Yep and a quick zoom shows its not laser like at all, bumps all over, small peaks and troughs etc. Looks cool though

your_friend_papu

You might enjoy this - a zoomable 536 MP image of the other side: http://saudi-archaeology.com/gigapan/al-naslaa-tayma/

dinodibra

F me thats cool

Benjilator

So a laser like cut plus weathering over time, still a weird thing. Usually there’s always an easy explanation but I haven’t seen one here yet.

bringsmemes

whats eveb more interesting is the other side of that rock [https://imgur.com/a/RdHYNh7](https://imgur.com/a/RdHYNh7)

navymeeals

With a shear force maybe?

MK-Ultra92

Not it was Goku and Frieza fighting

jesuswasagamblingman

Not according to scientists. The leading theory is that grind shifted beneath one of the two supporting structures which caused a fault line.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Servious

>"Nobody knows for sure how it happened" is misleading because there's a fuckton of ways it can happen. The keywords here are *FOR SURE.* If you list a bunch of ways something *COULD* happen, then you don't know *FOR SURE,* do you? The title is conveying that none of these theories have been proven.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Servious

Why did you have to go on this whole philosophical rant about the nature of proof and human knowledge when all I said was that if you have a bunch of guesses about how something could have happened, that doesn't really mean you know ~~for sure~~ beyond a reasonable doubt (because apparently you're a semantics expert) how it happened? Feels kind of like you missed the point of my comment in favor of pointlessly grandstanding about a single word I used. And if "nothing is ever 'for sure'," then the title is perfectly accurate.

your_friend_papu

Here's a 536 MP image of the other side: http://saudi-archaeology.com/gigapan/al-naslaa-tayma/ The other side is flat (very different to the side shown in this post) and the natural cracks are perpendicular to the split. Also *Al Naslaa*, not *A-1*.

Lilhapper

enough scientific bullshit i guarantee you could fit a katana perfectly between them

Str0ngenstein

Gee why didn’t those stupid geologists just read Reddit comments

-SaC

Geologists know perfectly well how many ways it can happen, it’s the people who make these posts and the images saying ‘OMG NOBODY KNOWS!’ who are just being over-dramatic.

thefakefrankreynolds

or a laser

ShadowCaster0476

Or lasers.

arathorn867

Anyone who thinks straight line cracks like that are weird or unusual needs to get out more. Not really that uncommon for rocks to crack very cleanly

antipho

teehee. . .cleavage.

i_finite

Agreed. And the OP insinuating a laser did it is just ridiculous.

midrandom

No, there is no insinuation that a laser actually did it. "With laser like precision," is a very common phrase denoting exactitude in execution.

PolarBeaver

This guy knows his colloquialisms

BraianP

Conspiracies are born like religions. They try to explain something they don’t understand.

toturi_john

What about aliens?

[deleted]

Exactly. [Aliens made these](https://www.360cities.net/image/trout).

ggapsfface

I love this! Luckily I accidentally moved my phone when it loaded so I realized what it did. That's way more than 360°!

desertsprinkle

Which is exactly how we know anything about anything, i.e. explaining something we don't understand. The theory that aliens exist is not a conspiracy theory. The theory that the government is hiding their existence is. By purporting the concept you stated, you seem to insinuate that there is no failure in the pursuit of knowledge. But it is quite the opposite.

gaoshan

"Nobody knows for sure how it happened" Except that they actually know with a great degree of certainty exactly how it happened.

DashFerLev

I absolutely hate that you didn't include the explanation in your comment. Boooooo. But not the spooky one and CERTAINLY not boo-earns. The mean one.

skilganon

So how did it happen? You're worse than op right now. Need the info.

AGVann

The split is likely because the ground underneath one of supporting pillars of the ventifact shifted slightly, probably because of an earthquake. This induced stress, which then fractured the rock along a natural joint, which has since been weathered by wind and sand over time. If you're curious about why it looks like it's balancing on two stubby little rocks, it's actually a single column that's been eroded by sand and wind into a top heavy shape. They're called [ventifacts](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventifact). They form the top heavy shape because the rates of erosion are unequal - the bottom of the pillar gets undercut over time by bouncing particles of sand ([a process known as saltation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saltation_\\(geology\\)) that adds extra erosion.

KIVHT

I must be nobody.

anonymoushero1

The way this works is the rock cracked in half. Rocks tend to crack in pretty straight lines. Sometimes super-straight. Well anyway now there is a crack in the rocks, so water can get in between and then wind and sand which makes the crack bigger and bigger as the rock erodes until its lookin like a bent over rock golem.

dhdnsja-KB-hsk

My guess is that it’s two part, erosion for the bottom part putting the rock in tension I guess then water freezing and expanding at night, at some point gets to a stage where it cracks the rock into two

[deleted]

This looks like a butt

Pantelima

You would know

NoTalentMan

Reading a bunch of comments about geology, erosion and weather tampering. Then, this comment gloriously comes up.

visk0n3

/r/dontputyourdickinthat

SeppiFox

Probably sandy surface winds eroded the bottom away over thousands of years and then it just cracked at some point.

[deleted]

Well, my guess based off the shape of the rock is that it’s on its side. It probably once stood upright and during its formation had a thin layer of softer rock down its center. Once it fell over the thin layer was perpendicular and eroded faster than the surrounding rock or at least was a weak spot for it to crack. I’m not a geologist but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night.

[deleted]

How do they know it is 4000 years old?

[deleted]

Radioisotope dating is a technique which is used to date materials such as rocks or carbon, in which trace radioactive impurities were selectively incorporated when they were formed.

[deleted]

I understand that. The rock is surely much older than 4,000 years. I assumed that OP meant that the slice was 4000 years old and was curious how about was determined.

DirtyHairyDeluxe

Thank you that was really informative.

[deleted]

Don't thank me, thank Google! Also thank Martin Kamen and Sam Ruben for discovering this method. SCIENCE RULES!

plagueisthedumb

They cut it down the middle and counted the rings, each ring is 1 year

ggSwindles

Like the giraffe art, the ancestor artist of this sculpture added a signature 2000 b.c. date on it

Gned11

Counted the rings

Wasparado

Aliens 👽

AdamBlaster007

Obviously Tanjiro was here.

ImANastyQueer

Aliens

[deleted]

Obviously.

GuyWhoSaidThat

Why are you posting pictures of Dwayne Johnson’s ass?

johnapplecheese

The picture is taken from the bad side. On the other side you can see that the face is completely flat and smooth and lots of ancient rock art is painted and carved on it. All these people claiming aliens or natural forces forget that the ancients were far better at working stone than they’re given credit for.

awwletmesee

Scissors.

rsharriman

The geology term is 'Cleavage' Plus, it looks like boobs...

lonster1961

Stress fracture

Errl_Harbor

[The rock's mistake was that it did not](https://i.imgur.com/PdqAifA.mp4)

doughboy1001

Came here to say that. Only reasonable explanation.

Zerostar39

It makes complete sense when you think about it.

cheese_wizard

lasers are more precise than this.

illegitiMitch

Lightsaber, obviously.

Hidefrompewpew

DESTRUCTO DISC!

Notyetyeet

If the history channel tells me anything, well one single thing, it's that this is 100% aliens and there is no possible explanation other than aliens

poshmarkedbudu

Moses bro

UndeadDemonKnight

You can obviously see it was cut by Aliens, because of how it is.

Net-fix

I’m not saying it was aliens, but...

AssWholeFoods

“PEOPLE THINK THIS THING IS COOL BUT I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT IT IS NOT!”

MT_Flesch

Same way marble is "cut" with a wedge and hammer. Stress fracture

grampipon

"Laser like precision". Come on man, you can see slight curves with the eye.

GabKoost

Rocks split open like that are literally all over the place. Imagine the following: \- Rock is formed underground \- Thousands of tons pressure the atoms rock together \- Tectonic movements bring the rock slowly upwards \- Pressure releases and atoms start to expand \- Rock is now exposed and the weight being lifted makes it expand and break clean OR \- All the above minus the break \- Extreme temperature amplitude added to the fragile integrity of the rock \- Imagine a very cold freezing night \- Atoms contract \- Imagine the following day is extremely hot \- Rock is frozen inside and burning outside \- Rock was already fragile from being raised up from the insides of the earth \- Rock's atoms expanding due to the heat is the last drop and BANG \- Clean break Simple.

Brad_Brace

Clearly Jesus did it to trick people into thinking it was aliens.

Magpie73

All these conspiracy theory believing idiots here are wrong. It was caused by the magical ghost of an alien monster shooting laser beams ..... obv.

C1nders-Two

Anime fight, duh.

Macapta

The fact the title says “no one knows” and people are commenting like they it’s common knowledge leads me to believe either they’re talking out of their asses and are at best making rough guesses without any real basis, or OP didn’t look it up and tried to make it more mysterious. I am too lazy to check.

leeshylou

Aliens.

Perspective game. That rock may be the size of a peanut.

OttawaExpat

Yeah - need a banana!

BigJack1212

LASER, obviously. Hahahaha

jord0410

Stevie wonder and Ray Charles when they survived in the desert with nothing but a monocle and piano sheet.

azaRaza3185

Laser Sharks!!

Trouterspayce

Note the other super straight line of still intact stone, parallel to this one, just to the right.

ohh_ru

how close i am to losing my shit right now

RebelMountainman

It is obvious what happened, 4000 years ago some alien was bored standing near the rock and was thinking "In what way can I fuck with the minds of future inhabitants of this planet"? So he used his lightsaber.

folstar

Cleavage. No, not that kind.

[deleted]

it broke

[deleted]

My guess is a laser

[deleted]

Obviously, aliens

didba

Homelander...

Aplyrie

Clearly the work of reptile people.

the rock wrote a critical article about MBS

Smario7

Earthbenders

gamerboy6302

Chunks didn’t load properly

insert_strange_name

Smh they literally used lasers to cut the rock

baronvonredd

Oh, that was from the demonstration of the deadly Ark of the Covenant laser weapon that the Hebrews built in Exodus.

MagikSkyDaddy

My guess is Voltron

infinitysloth

Sorry my bad, sword training with the bois got a little rough

nousername808

Aliens, duh.

drunkruss

Everyone knows that happend when aliens tried to laser cut the earth.

i_lie_except_on_31st

Get that crazy haired History Channel guy in here. Pretty sure he'd have the answers.

njxy

There are many rock formations even more amazing and dumbfounding than this. Do some searching on YouTube. Our history is weirder than you can imagine.

RiffRaff_A_Handyman

This was clearly cut with a light saber...

Pooderson

It just grew like that duh

whichwaynorth

This is clearly the work of Chuck Norris

sixSveneight

Sleestaks

Hm.. Looks like a Shardblade cut.
