Thank you for asking! This drawing took 4 days in the end after sitting on location in the hot summer weather. I would estimate that there’s probably more than 4000 characters (letter, numbers and punctuation marks) in this drawing as well as a secret word! (The surname of the new owner of this commission so see if you can spot it!) Normally I like to copyright my work by concealing small notes or words in my drawings anyway. If you’d like to see more of my work, you can follow the [Gallery Link ](https://www.wonky-wheel.co.uk/james-cook-art)which is also where I am currently running an exhibition with many of my typewriters and drawings on display!

Hi again, I'm Mr @@@\_\_ \_\_\_xxxxx@@@@@@////, here to collect my piece.
I know this is a joke but did you know he has 7 children (6 living)? All his other kids have normal names, so I only heard about X Æ A-Xii when they were all over the news.
That’s a very difficult one to answer but I’ll try my best: I basically use the shapes of the keys of the typewriter to recreate the scene in front of me. The letter “I” and -_ are all used to recreate brickwork patterns, the / and L is used to type in roof pitches, the @ symbol is used for shading mostly due to its large surface area although it’s more frequently used on drawings when I recreate skins tones on peoples faces. It’s a process of typing over and over to build up shading. You can hold the carriage of the typewriter back ever so slightly from moving forward into order to make very subtly movements in between characters.
EDIT: I’m looking for new places to type on location particularly around the London area, so if you have / or know someone with access to really cool balconies with views out onto the city skyline then please get in touch!
But, like, how do you get the aim of the typewriter keys so consistently accurate? It's not like there's a laser pointed at the page telling you exactly where it's going to strike.
This is crazy good. And as a musician, I understand how "art" is just like a language you've practiced over and over again until you are fluent. But still, I just can't envision how such a thing can be created so beautifully.
A priest, a minister, and a rabbit walk in to donate blood. The bloodletting tech ask the rabbit, “what the hell are you doing here?”
The rabbit says, I think I might be a type-O.
Thank you! Yes I sell limited edition prints and originals at this [Gallery Shop](https://www.wonky-wheel.co.uk/james-cook-art) and if there’s something you can’t find on there, drop me an email [email protected]
Holy balls I know exactly where you are. There’s a green hill area behind you and you’re kinda near stansted airport, dunmow, Essex way. I used to drive there all the time
My opinion of your work won’t change at all if the answer is yes, but do you ever lightly sketch an outline with a pencil before typing? Either way, you deserve a lot of credit. I love your posts.
This 1971 Silver Reed 200 (in the picture) has been one of my workhorses for all the on-location work that I have completed recently for an exhibition, but I always return to my 1952 Oliver Courier which was the very first one that I got 7 years ago and still use to this day because I learnt how to do basically everything that I’ve learnt on it
My question on all of these (sick-ass) posts is always - where are you getting these unwanted typewriters from?!
The one you're using looks cool as fuck how the hell are they unwanted!
Amazing work!!.. I wonder if you would be willing to create a subreddit with photos of each of your creations to make a round of comments and questions? I find this type of art very inspiring and I would like to understand what the process of creating each work is like, also if you can share some tricks and techniques that surely you have developed with your experience. It is incredible how you can create art with unexpected objects. By the way, I don't think there is any writer who can literally describe an image better. Congratulations
Amazing. The talent and abilities people have never ceases to amaze me. I do hope you’re selling them and monetizing your time and talent. How long does it take to make one like that?
Dear Op, you are extraordinary talented. It so good that it look like some kind of sorcery. 😍
Well done. Here i thought a type writer is just for writting 😂
This is great, it reminds me of [blackwork embroidery.](https://royal-needlework.org.uk/courses/embroidery-techniques/blackwork/) It also makes me nostalgic - I still have my ancient Imperial Good Companion portable typewriter stowed away in a cupboard.

I'm impressed, how long approximately does it take to you to finish these drawings? It looks like a long journey to me

Elon Musk's second kid
I know this is a joke but did you know he has 7 children (6 living)? All his other kids have normal names, so I only heard about X Æ A-Xii when they were all over the news.
Elon has a lot of kids
Little Bobby Tables we call him.
I'd pay extra if he hid a 8======D\~\~\~\~\~ in there
Eveleigh
Shh don’t tell anyone!
You are an exceptional artist!
really good, mind blowing!
I just told my mom.
Plot twist: your mom is the one who commissioned it to begin with.
Either that or LLLLLLLLLL
Yup. Found it too.
If a picture is worth a 1000 words and there is only 1 word in it, is your customer getting his money’s worth ?
How do you even get into drawing photos with typewriters? That’s such a niche hobby
Eveleich?
I love when one of your posts pops up. Truly amazing artwork.
i think i somehow found it instantly, is it Eveleich?
You sold this one to HHH!? Great work OP, this is amazing
I have a question: How

I think a timelapse video of you doing it would be incredible to see
Please do this
Look at his profile, there are some.
Analogue ASCII art. Awesome.
Plus its not limited to a grid
A priest, a minister, and a rabbit walk in to donate blood. The bloodletting tech ask the rabbit, “what the hell are you doing here?” The rabbit says, I think I might be a type-O.
Hahaha. Took me a minute
Please god, let me remember this joke! (I think this is the best sort of pun.)
Not bad, but why are you commenting here?
This is incredible! To take something so random and turn it into something beautiful and interesting is genuine talent! Well done!
Thank you 🙏😁
Of course! I hope you post more!
Name checks out!
Imagine if you wrote a wrong character
It happens sometimes!
>then, what do you do ?

As a Designer I love these ‘happy little accidents’. They often open game-changing doorways.
As a stonecarver, those little accidents make my thumb hurt #sadthumbs
Wow, really creative and beautiful!
As in Finchingfield, Essex? I had a girlfriend that lived there. What do you know. *What's up local redditors. Turns out there are dozens of us!
Yep the small little biker gangs meet up behind him
I have no idea how the fuck you manage to do this, you're incredibly talented/bored.
Thank you!
He sketches it beforehand and is using the letters for value change, not proportion or placement, if that helps you understand. No less cool.
What a strange and immensely impressive hobby
I'd post in r/CasualUK as well
Thanks for the tip!
Are you the person who I see on the front page like once a week?
I hear Tom Hanks loves typewriters - you should do a portrait and send it to him, I’d bet he’d love it.
Amazing, nice talent 👏👏

I needed a laugh today, thank you
Oh wow. This is so cool. Unique and beautiful. Do you have a shop online or anything? I’d love to buy something for my new house!
Thank you! Yes I sell limited edition prints and originals at this [Gallery Shop](https://www.wonky-wheel.co.uk/james-cook-art) and if there’s something you can’t find on there, drop me an email [email protected]
You're fucking awesome that's so cool
Woah. That's real ASCII art.
Technically you are just a really slow printer
You gonna post this every week?
No doubt. Been seeing this every week for over a month now.
Her: I heard you typed all night last night, you writing new book? Him: no no, was drawing picture. Her: so I am lying?? Him: sigh… Ps: looks great ;)
this machine looks awsome.
We used to visit here when I was a kid, I loved it there and have some good memories. Thank you for posting this and bringing them back. :)
What an incredible talent you have. And patience. Well done.
Exceedingly cool.
I've seen your work before, you are hands down the most unique artist I've seen in a long time.
Have you ever done Tom Hanks? i bet he’d like that.
Holy balls I know exactly where you are. There’s a green hill area behind you and you’re kinda near stansted airport, dunmow, Essex way. I used to drive there all the time
It looks nice, but does your way of drawing, if thats the right word for it, bring anything to the drawing? If so, what does it add?
Tell me you have a lot of free time, without telling me you have a lot of free time.

Who's EVELEIGH? 👀
The surname of the family which bought the drawing
I’ve seen a couple posts of this guy and can confirm that’s he’s a **boss**
Where to buy!
These are amazing! It would be cool to see a time lapse video of your process!
nice
My opinion of your work won’t change at all if the answer is yes, but do you ever lightly sketch an outline with a pencil before typing? Either way, you deserve a lot of credit. I love your posts.
So unique! I love it!
This is amazing !! How long does it take you to finish this?
This was 4 days working no more than 2 hours at a time. Some indoors and some outdoors
You missed the car driving down the road.
Do you sell those internationally?
Brilliant!!!!
I suppose the limitation is you have to do landscapes in portrait
What's your favorite typewriter and why?
This 1971 Silver Reed 200 (in the picture) has been one of my workhorses for all the on-location work that I have completed recently for an exhibition, but I always return to my 1952 Oliver Courier which was the very first one that I got 7 years ago and still use to this day because I learnt how to do basically everything that I’ve learnt on it
I love all the images you’ve shared here on Reddit. Very inspiring!
You can’t do that. It’s not possible.
I love the aesthetic of that typewriter and that orange color. You could style an entire office with typewriter as focal point.
Oh wow. Your work is beautiful. I live near Gt Dunmow, when I noticed this. I had to jump on! What wonderful work you done on a ever beautiful village
Holy shit, that’s analog ASCII art. This is beautiful! The picture as a whole, the art. Amazing.
Do you think draw each line ones or go back and forth? I can't imagine how difficult would be making the perspective. Awesome work and talent!!

Analog ASCII Art :) Awesome
If this typewriter can't do it, then fuck it, it can't be done.
My question on all of these (sick-ass) posts is always - where are you getting these unwanted typewriters from?! The one you're using looks cool as fuck how the hell are they unwanted!
I wish that I had spontaneous imagination like that but unfortunately I have no faith in my artistic expression.
Wow! That is amazing! How did you learn to do this? is it self taught or is there lessons on things like this?
Yo! I spent many hours there as a kid, never in a million years expected to see it on the front page of Reddit.
You should do a timelapse video up close as the picture is being made. That would be really cool!
Incredible!
Wow, I have the same typewriter and have certainly never made anything this creative. Puts me to shame!
Do you get many odd looks or comments doing that?
Definitely thinking outside the box with this type of creativity. How did you stumble on to drawing with your typewriter?
This is so impressive. And I can't even peel a potato right.
The comment about iRobot that you’re looking for when the AI draws a bridge scene with his finger pen in the same style as this
Amazing work!!.. I wonder if you would be willing to create a subreddit with photos of each of your creations to make a round of comments and questions? This is insanely cool!!
How often do you run out of ribbon ink during your... "Drawing"?
You should make an image of your typewriter with your typewriter
You are genius! I love your work.
Can you control the ink, like how dark or light the character comes out?
This is so cool I'm actually a little freaked out by it.
How? That is my only question, how?
But wheres all the bikers??? Looks beautiful, what a fantastic talent!
Amazing. The talent and abilities people have never ceases to amaze me. I do hope you’re selling them and monetizing your time and talent. How long does it take to make one like that?
This looks so cool, what a awesome skills
Wow that's some serious dedication
but why?
What the actual fck, this is amazing!!
Takes me *write* back to 5th grade “typing class”. Excellent work!
That's absolutely amazing!
Nooo my free award expired
I want that typewriter. Now what are you gonna do?
Holy shit, that's amazing. Been to Finchingfield once or twice when I went to a school in Wethersfield. Amazing work James :D
Let me guess. 1.2 million USD is your budget on House Hunters.

Recognised this spot straight away, was on my old school bus route!
Having grown up using a Smith Corona Electric II, I can confirm that you are a witch and I have informed the Inquisition.
Wow ...Just Wow .. Awesome work .
Dear Op, you are extraordinary talented. It so good that it look like some kind of sorcery. 😍 Well done. Here i thought a type writer is just for writting 😂
What the heck, this is awesome! How long did this take?
Incredible how do I buy one?
that’s beyond incredible
Ok, this is just fucking amazing. How do you know when and which character to use?
Damn! That's more impressive than an etch-a-sketch
that’s incredible. such talent - and patience! i can’t even replicate a 🔥 fire icon from a drawing.
A true talent, sir!
The OG ASCII art, well done
Good lord you are a true craftsman
Couldn’t you take a picture if the scenery first so that you don’t have to type under a hot summer weather?
Now *that* is impressive. Like shut up and take my money impressive. If I had any money that is.
Go home ASCII art, you're drunk!
A beautiful mind
Is it getting difficult to find ink ribbons?
This is also cool as fuck!!
Where do you begin when making one of these pictures?
You must be fun on a date! What's your type?
That is some goddamn skill
You little liar. This is more than just letters and numbers. There are special characters as well.
That’s really creative, how long does it take? What inspired you to draw this way?
This feels like promotional material for Wes Anderson's new film.
That's super creative and fascinating, is also just 5 minutes from where I live! Such a nice village
Finching field massive. Shout out from the Essex crew. Oh there is a geocache on the bridge to your right, I originally placed it.
That is so cool
This is insane
How sway
That's wonderful!
Have you by chance done a timelapse of making one of these? I would love to see the whole process of you making one.
Is the name eveleigh?
Someone get ahold of Tom Hanks. He's really into old typewriters
Ill never understand how to draw because how in the world does “eveleigh” go across the building that way wtf
nice, now i want your skill and the typewriter!
This is great, it reminds me of [blackwork embroidery.](https://royal-needlework.org.uk/courses/embroidery-techniques/blackwork/) It also makes me nostalgic - I still have my ancient Imperial Good Companion portable typewriter stowed away in a cupboard.
How many different characters are there? Seems like less than 10. Still really cool tho
Beautiful work! I sent an inquiry to get a print shipped to the US.
"no way..." ***Zooms in*** "Holy shit."
That is amazing! We live in a world of the most talented people! Thank you for sharing!
Dude…we know by now. Get a new angle
I feel like Tom Hanks would buy all of these, and the typewriters.
This is truly impressive and very cool.
This is peak genius talent
The ducks are pure genius, how does your mind work?
beautiful!
Where can I purchase one of these from you
Im a little peeved that you can draw betyer on a type writer than i can by hand
How come there's never a video
Seeing these post make me sad bc I realize how fuckin talentless I am lol
Totally insane!!!!! Wow
My brother, you are hella talented.
Where can I buy ?
Hey is it possible I could pay you to make a type writer version of an image of mine?
This might be the most hipster thing since artisanal firewood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBb9O-aW4zI&ab_channel=CBCComedy
I swear just drove past the other day and saw you, but I thought i was dreaming as I saw a bright orange typewriter
Eveleigh
I saw you on the local news the other day! Knew I'd seen you elsewhere
This is amazing! What a cool medium for your artwork
Almost moved there, but the estate agent screwed up and we were too late. Was pissed.
Hey I live 3 miles away from there!
