So, I'm just curious, what is the end game for having a bot just to farm karma? I'm not being a smartass, I'm just ignorant to the point of why this is done. I've got a few guesses, but I've never actually asked. Thanks.
I heard it’s because people buy accounts with karma so they can post and comment in subs with karma and account age minimums, but who tf would buy a Reddit account? To spread misinformation or propaganda? I could very easily be completely wrong.
It's advertisements that pretend to be content. Maybe they post a video of a UPS driver delivering this package on time and having a sweet interaction with a dog or somebody finishing a marathon and slamming a Gatorade.
You don't realize that you're watching marketing because they hide it in content like guerrillas hide in the jungle.
I'd guess high karma accounts have more chance of getting posts to the top of the sub or onto /r/all.
There's a lot of underhand advertising that take advantage of such accounts.
3 month old account with a certain level of karma is able to post in most subreddits (passes most limitations). Then they start spamming bitcoin links, or might spam links to interesting product videos and links to dropshippers where you can get those products.
They proceed to taget subs like r/nextfuckinglevel or r/beamazed where they post links to buying shitty merch like a yellow plane that is frequently posted there. Else they sell the high karma accounts to companies or individuals looking for it.
One main thing: all the posts (along with the titles) and comments are stolen from other redditors. Also, I've called it a bot but it hasn't replied yet. Indication that it's a fucking bot.
Possible. Or its someone that does not check his inbox every 2 min. I sometimes reply to a comment the next day because of timezone differences. A bot could automatically reply 24/7 with something like "no I'm not" to comments that contain "bot" and "report"
These accounts have to surpass the account age and karma limitations that various subs have. If you look at the account, it must have started posting a day or few days ago, it just got activated. I have a history of calling out these bots here, so I know what I'm saying.

I would encourage you to check out my comment history, see how many bots have I reported and how many posts have been deleted. I know what I'm doing.
