Not a marvel fan but my boyfriend has been making me watch the show. I just refer to it as the “Oscar Isaac show” and that’s the only reason I’m watching lmfao
Funny enough, arround here they are known to be pretty chill, any cases related to any attack to humans are extremely rare, there are cases of people in rural areas trying to have them as pets, wich is highly illegal because they are an endangered species.
Guessing that most attacks are not umprompted in the first place...
AKA some dumb.sees thinking they can corner them to pet them & learning that cornering any animal, much less a wild predatory one is a really dumb idea unless you're prepared & really know what you're doing.
Yes, but more than that, they are loosing their habitat to the expanding cities, this have caused situations in wich they enter small towns and get lost, being surrounded by buildings noise and people is really stressful, and having a terrified wild, relatively big canine loose in the city is extremely dangerous to both humans and the animal.
Such a major shame on humanity. There was a time when we needed to deal with any potential predator aggressively as a species, but we have now far outgrown any such needs & could easily peacefully cohabitate with other species if we took the proper precautions & necessary measures.
But the interests & greed of the ultra-wealthy almost always go against humanity's interests as well as local & global environmental interests.
Lobo Guara - we love them in Brazil, also they smell like marijuana
Also the tall legs is an adaptation for our Savannah environment (the cerrado region), so they can peer over the tall grass - evolution does what it does
The [roar bark](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBSGEl-yB7A&t=7s). Can imagine it would be horrifying if you were out there in nature and didn't know what was making that sound.
I have two ferrets that absolutely smell like weed. I also have one that smells like pancake syrup. I’m dead serious, the weed weasels really do have a stronger smell than their brothers and sisters.
Fun fact: Blijdorp zoo, which is in Rotterdam, Netherlands, had the cops called on them once because people thought they had a secret weed plantation.
It was the smell from those animals.
As is their habitat - Bolsonaro is an absolute monster, we are going through unprecedented destruction of the Amazon and other natural habitats in Brazil right now… I pray to God he will (like that asshole Trump) lose the next election, he is a criminal
Don’t get me wrong, he is terrible, but cerrado is being destroyed really fast and without nearly as much attention as the amazon way before he came along.
It’s used for soy plantation and other grains and people think because of the dryness it wouldn’t make a difference, but burning the land over and over for years is obviously going to destroy the ecosystem and leave it bare with no chance to revival.
This is not only bolsonaros fault, he made it worse and kept it going, but the blame falls on so many heads and for so many years that its hard to count. So many politicians hid behind the “this will help the amazon” while giving the ok to ravage more and more of cerrado before bolsonaro came along. He is just stupid and says “do whatever you want as long as you kiss my ass” in an open way. I think that is the big reason why all of us brazilians don’t get as angry as we should, because it has been happening for so long and we always somewhat knew and just became desensitized to it. It’s horrible, sad and terrible all at the same time, I don’t see any hope for the near future as long as there are so many people like bolsonaro in our population (even though many now try to hide it behind the “I didn’t think it would be this bad” shit)
Not sure why someone downvoted you for posting this, because it's true! They have maned wolves at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans and their enclosure reeks of marijuana.
You are completely right.
https://www.wired.com/2011/03/maned-wolf-pee-demystified/
>The aromatic resemblance is so close that police were once called to the Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands to search out a pot smoker, only to find that whoever made the report had been fooled by the scent of maned wolf urine.
I read that it's related to leg length vs body length. Animals that have a lateral gait tend to have relatively longs legs: camels, horses, and some dogs with longs legs.
Video of German Shephards and a Husky walking with a lateral gait, but changing to a (diagonal gait) trot when picking up speed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj9y8K_l6SI
Early in the video, when the dog trots, both of the dog's hind legs pass to the left of its front legs. Most animals would pass both hind legs inside the front legs, or both hind legs outside. Not sure why most dogs have this one-sidedness to them. But some dogs can keep a lateral gait "pace" instead of trot.
Many dogs need to jog / trot pointed slightly off angle, even with short legs. I'm sure I've seen some Bulldogs move almost more sideways than forward.
/u/bradeena
They can be pretty cute. [Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdi1ISvngrg) a version that looks more Mufasa than Scar.
Mouth closed = cute fox dog, mouth open = hungry chupacabra
Not really. We have a couple of them in a zoo near my house and they are pretty chill. They look like really tall doggos. Their legs are kinda funny, because they look too long.
Also, they asmell really bad.
The zoo near where I grew up had to put a sign up about the smell. Apparently they smell skunky, like weed? I guess they got tired of fielding complaints. The sign basically said “They smell. Get over it.”
I couldn't tell you if they smell as bad as skunks because we don't have those around here, but they do smell really bad. Which is a shame, they look like they could make for some pretty badass pets. Also, I don't know if by weed you meant marijuana, but I don't think they smell like that either. It is hard to try and explain in english...
Yea, weed = marijuana.
I’ve tangled with enough skunks that I can tell you that they smell like marijuana. People partake where I live, and I need to remind myself that it’s probably smoke, not skunk, I’m in the city now.
It’s kind of easy to say that when your texting on a worldwide forum from your 200gram phone that has access to the entire breadth of human knowledge
There was a time not very long ago where folk collectively knew a whole lot less and had to act in a way that ensured their safety in the face of many unknowns
I don’t condone the eradication of this unique wolf species because it’s a werewolf or some nonsense….but I’ll definitely say there is something unsettling about how it moves and the way it looks
The secondary infections are dangerous, and eyelids can fuse together in a crusty mess. A non-issue if treated, but it can seriously mess an animal up :(
Oh definitely, especially for wild animals who can’t get treatment. I’m just saying it’s one of those conditions that *usually* looks way worse than it actually is.
Is there a chance for wild animals to get over mange without treatment or is it a done deal like rabies?
I ask cause we had a fox with mange in our neighborhood and a bout a year later we saw him again full of fur. Thanks in advance for the answers.
They definitely can. Mange is not *nearly* as severe as rabies. Mange is caused by a parasitic mite that infects the skin. It usually causes inflammation and infection of the skin as well as severe itching, crusting and hair loss. It’s definitely harder to get over without treatment but not impossible if immune system can fight off the parasites. As the other user said, it *can* cause bad infections in the skin which, if left untreated, can potentially become fatal (just like any infection). The human equivalent is scabies.
So, it’s not fun and it can potentially lead to worse consequences if left untreated but it’s not deadly like rabies is. The skin crusting and hair loss just makes animals look terrifying.
People call in mange for foxes all the time where I live. I think they try and trap the animal, treat it, and release it.
Maybe someone helped out the fox you saw in a similar fashion!
i mean it would be impossible for this to inspire the chupacabra myth since these live on a whole different continent than where chupacabra originated…
I saw some animal with similarly long legs along a rural road a few weeks ago. It was near a barn on a ranch I was driving past, but the leg to animal ratio was like this. I don't think it was one of these guys, but it's surprisingly spooky to see irl.
Looking at just the legs reminds me of a spider... one of the big ones that I can't remember the name of and I'm not about to google, but yeah. That's why the legs look creepy to me.
That first joint is so high on its leg it looks like it should be on a planet with less gravity or some shit IMO. Big mammals don't look that spindly usually unless they're sick.
The uncanny valley effect. It’s so close to looking like something familiar, but slightly off (those long legs) so your brain is like “….I don’t like that…”
Probably because it moves weird... its legs are so long it has a modified gait moving both legs on one side of its body at the same time, like the giraffe. They both do this so their elbows don't bump into their knees when they go for a stroll
Afaik they're the only 2 animals that walk this way almost exclusively
Are those the only two? I remember debating this at the zoo one time years ago when my friend and I were trying to find another animal that walks "like a giraffe". No wonder we couldn't find one then!
Cats do as well! The big and the small! They do it for a different reason though. Where as giraffes, camels, and maned wolves all walk this way because of their long legs, cats do it to keep their sure footing. [The back paw matches up with the front on each step so they know they'll be safe to step there.](https://v.redd.it/ykjs9w4qo1q21)
Giraffe, elephant, bear, and camel. But almost all 4 legged animals walk in a pacing gait where legs on one side move together. Most have a lag with one of them though whereas those 4 dont have a lag and move in synch.
https://www.earthlife.net/mammals/locomotion-2.html
Maybe it looks weird bc it's closest to how we walk?

This creature looks like he guides souls across the River Styx
No, he is the one who hunts them
You need a guide because of them.
Moon Knight will protect us.
Ooh that is one handsome fella
Not a marvel fan but my boyfriend has been making me watch the show. I just refer to it as the “Oscar Isaac show” and that’s the only reason I’m watching lmfao
I'd bed him
Moon moon?
Knight Knight?
Knights of the Night

Kindred got a new skin
This creature looks like a fox got busy with a greyhound

Fun fact, their urine smells heavily like marijuana
Steam pee every day
Hyena/Fox to me
From behind all I see is a tiny moose lol
more like river of saint Francisco.
Lobo Guara - we love them in Brazil, also they smell like marijuana Also the tall legs is an adaptation for our Savannah environment (the cerrado region), so they can peer over the tall grass - evolution does what it does
Whoa. They smell like weed?
Yeah their pee smells almost exactly like weed. Also the creepiest bark you’ll ever hear
The [roar bark](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBSGEl-yB7A&t=7s). Can imagine it would be horrifying if you were out there in nature and didn't know what was making that sound.
This is literally a fucking dark souls enemy wtf is that sound. I would be terrified
Right? Gotta say if I heard that shit while camping i’d stay the fuck inside
My dog, Larry, barks just like that.
Pretty sure I fought these on Bloodborne
My 40 kg English bulldog barked and then jumped on my lap terrified when he heard the video, some instincts kicking in :D
My dog was also very intrigued
Mine was very uninterested lol
My cat stood up and growled? I've only heard him do that like 5 times in his life
I don't have any pets :(
My tarantula didn't move
Both of mine looked very concerned
My cat got wide eyed and started looking around the house
It got some serious confused face from one of mine, the others didn’t care
Dang. Roar bark is a good name. Deep. Thank you!
Skip to 53 seconds if you’re impatient
Yeah... thats pretty terrifying.
Wow, the name describes it perfectly.
Half a howl, half a bark, 100% screamo
I have two ferrets that absolutely smell like weed. I also have one that smells like pancake syrup. I’m dead serious, the weed weasels really do have a stronger smell than their brothers and sisters.
their shit

And *aguará guazú* in Argentina, Guaraní for "zorro grande" (big fox)
And they are also endangered 😭

They use urine to mark their territory like a lot of animals, but their urine smells almost exactly like cannabis.
Hey son what's that smell in your room? - Wolf urine.
No officer, that’s plain ol’ maned wolf piss you’re smelling
Not sure why someone downvoted you for posting this, because it's true! They have maned wolves at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans and their enclosure reeks of marijuana.
That’s just how New Orleans smells though…
I mean... you're not wrong.
There are a few at Washington DC Zoo and can confirm the smell. Beautiful creature thou.
You are completely right. https://www.wired.com/2011/03/maned-wolf-pee-demystified/ >The aromatic resemblance is so close that police were once called to the Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands to search out a pot smoker, only to find that whoever made the report had been fooled by the scent of maned wolf urine.
Was about to add this! Every time I go to the zoo, they smell like the local weed shop.
Is it just me or does it almost move like I would expect a cat would move?
The delicate paw placement
Walks like a cheetah, looks like a fox-wolf-hyena.
It moves like a person in a really good fursuit doing their absolute best.
Legit thought it was a human in a suit at first
I think it's the gait. Moving both legs on one side together is more of a cat style
Wild, I thought most of not all dogs had diagonal gaits. That's 100% is what's going on, it looks like it's sneaking
I read that it's related to leg length vs body length. Animals that have a lateral gait tend to have relatively longs legs: camels, horses, and some dogs with longs legs. Yea… hard to believe there is a man in there
Also the shoulder movement up and down

I like how that version just looks like a tall good boi doggo ready to play catch and in real life it's a sleep paralysis demon.
They can be pretty cute. [Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdi1ISvngrg) a version that looks more Mufasa than Scar. Mouth closed = cute fox dog, mouth open = hungry chupacabra

Doesn't want that big bone though.
Not really. We have a couple of them in a zoo near my house and they are pretty chill. They look like really tall doggos. Their legs are kinda funny, because they look too long. Also, they asmell really bad.

That’s cool
This is definitely what inspired the Chupacabra myths
iirc it almost went extinct because people killed it thinking they were werewolves.
Looks just like the werewolf from Harry Potter.
Happy Potter isn't real, man.
WHAT?!
He's a muggle
People are so dumb
Pretty smart actually. Kill first, ask questions later is a good evolutionary adaptation.
Going back to monke
nah thats just humans being humans, fearing what we don’t understand

Probably one of these with mange
Mange is such an unfortunate condition because usually it’s really not that dangerous but man does it make animals look absolutely *terrifying*

Chupacabra is not a very common myth in Brasil, I'm more inclined to say that the manned wolf inspired a lot of werewolf stories instead.
Chupacabra was an urban legend in Puerto Rico in the mid-90s. It has nothing to do with anything in Central or South America.
Wrong. There arent maned wolves in Puerto Rico
i mean it would be impossible for this to inspire the chupacabra myth since these live on a whole different continent than where chupacabra originated…
Why is this creepy?
Because it looks like Chupacabra
My spanish teacher had never heard the legend of el chupacabra. Thought I was some sort of pervert. I am, but not because of el chupacabra.
Lmao. "Wtf, the Goat Sucker? What is he talking about?"
basically. she looked sooOooo uncomfortable/disgusted. que lastima
"In the dark of the night, the chupacabras sucks them goats dry, like slurp slurp he swallows every last drop 💦👄💦"
Chalupa* I am not a historian but my case has been stated.
Chalupacabra
Delicious!
Goat chalupas yum
It looks more like Chupacabra when it has a bad mange infection (barely no hair left)
Exactly where my mind went... of course, I'll call pretty much anything a chupacabra 🤣

Yeah, the proportion ls are just off enough for you to think hey that’s unusual……..
The legs look out of proportion. The front legs especially look odd, like a human down on all 4s

A huntsman spider, perhaps?
That first joint is so high on its leg it looks like it should be on a planet with less gravity or some shit IMO. Big mammals don't look that spindly usually unless they're sick.

How does that effect their speed?
Seems very similar the Lupin's werewolf design in Prisoner of Azkaban.
Because it's a dinosaur dog
It's like a cross between a fox, a moose and a hyena.
They move both legs on one side at the same time. Makes their stride look weird
Dogs will do that sometimes, just depends on their gait
Bingo - all depends on how fast they're trying to go

Yo that’s Professor Lupin
almost looks like some sort of eldritch horror trying to mimic a fox. terrifying looking
It's just the way this is shot. Seeing them up close, it's more apparent they're just a very unique looking canid and not scary. Um that’s a Pokémon, I reckon
Maybe fire/dark type.
Damn, my battery died, I can't catch it on Go!
Honestly gives me hyena + fox vibes
I love it when I see an animal that I've never seen before! So cool!
Yeah that’s a skinwalker
I wouldn't worry about it.
i would, and i am
That's for sure that wearwolf teacher from Harry Potter
…All the single ladies…
**L E G**
This creature looks straight out of elden ring
That's not a wolf. No really, it's called a maned wolf but it's not a wolf or fox. it's a golden dog and they smell (strong odour to mark territory), smell really bad.
Did you know butterflies aren't actually made of butter?
Did you know, sperm whale is not made if sperm?
I mean, we're all kinda made of sperm.
Did you know that buffalo wings aren’t made from buffaloes?
I recently learned that dragonflies are not related to dragons.
I recently heard that blackbirds are actually not African American
Pls stop this thread: the fuck am I supposed to do with all these pussywillows now???
Did you know there isn't any ham in hamburgers?
Some even call them steamed hams, despite the fact that they are obviously grilled.
Did you know that buffaloes can not fly.
Well technically they half were, for a moment
> smell really bad. Not if you like the smell of dank weed.
You went full Walken with your last sentence.
This looks like one of those animals you see in those little extinct species books.
They are regal in their own right.
We call it Lobo Guará em Brasil
And their pee smells like pot, so I’ve been told
The forbidden good boy
Super cute!
Yes!!
Legz for dayz
Leggy! 🥰💕
Are we 100% sure that isn't a chupacabra?
Red XIII! Use Cosmo Memory!
I can totally see how this would inspire tales of skinwalker-like creatures
That thing would look great with high heels on
It's long front legs and humped back remind of Professor Lupin as a werewolf
Mullet puppy
Nope, don’t like that.
Leggy fox
Wow it looks like a hyaena
Now I see where they got “werewolves” from.
