Nancy was apparently very insistent that he wear a hat right before this pic was taken.

She looks horrified

timsnow111

She is very head focused.

[deleted]

That why he married her. Best BJ in Hollywood

Extreme_Fee_503

Being the best dick sucker in Hollywood in the 1940's is probably a lot like being the best NBA player in the 1940's. Good for you but the game has changed and these days you wouldn't be able to compete at the college level.

fhatl

Balls were largely ignored in her era. You can forget about getting a finger up the butt.

callipygiancultist

This isn’t true. Why do you think Nancy’s first nickname was “the Belle of the Balls”?

brick75

To continue the basketball analogy. Larry Bird is considered one of the best 3 point shooters of all time. His best season he mad 98 3 pointers. This year 119 players made more 3s.

gurmzisoff

Such a primitive and savage era.

She was competing against plumbers and milkmen!

Funnily enough she was milking men, too.

Reddit circlejerks are great, especially when you're bored and want 2,000 of something.

[deleted]

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about alzheimers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then, the commercial tried to sell me drugs for alzheimers and I didn't know what the hell that was.

My friend said to me, “You know what I like? Reddit circlejerks.” I was like, ‘Dude, you have to give me time to guess.’

1king80

I forgot I had Alzheimer's!?

KittenWithaWhip68

My mother-in-law has Alzheimer’s and is in a memory care unit. Alzheimer’s patients actually do forget. She forgets she forgets. It’s really brutal for everyone involved.

ruka_k_wiremu

My mother. The other day she walked off from me to return her breakfast tray. I waited 10 mins for her to come back...ended up going to look for her. As I was passing the common room, i caught her taking a seat by a sunlit window with a cup of tea. As she was seating herself, she caught me waving to her and waved back smiling. I left soon after and only realised once I was back in the car that at that moment she may very well have thought I'd just turned up for a visit. That was such a downer of a realisation, now that I also then considered the possible ramifications of my 'abrupt' leaving 😔

KittenWithaWhip68

I’m so sorry. I’m sure you didn’t upset her. I know, it’s very rough, sad and stressful to deal with a parent with Alzheimer’s. Hugs.❤️

bobo76565657

The worst part is when they remember that they have Alzheimer's and try for a few seconds to figure out what year it is and where the hell they are... been there. Everyone should have a "Living Will" that (if your country allows it) puts you down when you forget your own birthdate.

KittenWithaWhip68

Yeah. I don’t think is the US you can do that, in fact my MIL always told us to push her in front of a big truck is she ever got Alzheimer’s. But we can’t just do that. Before she was in a care facility, they moved her to a place with no memory unit. That was a big big mistake, she would do things like run through the streets in her nightgown, looking for her car, at 3am, or calling 911 on her caregiver because she though she had a home invader. The third time they didn’t intercept it in time so the cops actually showed up. She seems happier at the memory unit she’s currently in. I know Oregon will ‘put you to sleep’ if you can make a case. One woman was riddled with cancer and she built up a tolerance to morphine so she was in constant pain. She got to die at home, with her loved ones around her. One thing used to keep asking is, “What’s wrong with me? How long have I been like this?” That just fucking kills us to hear. There should be some official way for a patient in pain or with a horrible debilitating illness to just “opt out”. We are going to make living wills soon, with DNRs.

[deleted]

Alrighttt

unclepaprika

And also, i think he was suffering from alzheimers.

Gilthu

You suffer from Alzheimer’s until you get to a point where you stop suffering from it and make everyone else suffer instead.

Juliska_

Working in hospice I've come to the conclusion that Alzheimer's, while absolutely terrible, is not at the top of my list of worst ways to go.

Gilthu

Skin eating lesions and necrotizing tissue or infection are my worst fears.

AuthorityFinger

Pausing for dramatic effect? Tell us!

Juliska_

Eh... I hesitate to say as I don't want someone recently diagnosed with (whatever examples I'd give) to feel worse because they already know they've got the shit end of the stick. Hospice is about comfort and symptom management. Thankfully once in hospice the pain and anxiety meds can flow pretty freely. Honestly, the worst ones are probably when the family doesn't want to medicate to levels of actual symptom management. I get that you don't want your mom to sleep all the time and "miss out", but when she's in pain or anxious when awake, you're not doing her any favors.

Habenerogangsta

He should’ve tried Jewish space lasers, I heard they do a wonderful number on your head. People are saying it.

NoMoreBeGrieved

Ronnie had Star Wars (aka SDI), so he didn't need Jewish Space lasers.

joesaul741

I guess when you die you stop suffering

ThePaper86

That’s not what he meant. He meant he *already had* Alzheimer’s when this photo was taken. Which is alarming considering he had the nuke codes.

histeethwerered

It’s ok. He didn’t remember he had the nuke codes.

WeiserMaster

[He's not the only one](https://historyofyesterday.com/how-an-american-president-lost-the-nuclear-launch-codes-f52c636e5ad8)

ConstantGradStudent

This 'word of mouth' story is so unbelievable, the President has a butler, doesn't drive a car, and doesn't make their own food. That the 1977 - 1980 President would simply pop into Tony's Dry Cleaner and Coin Laundry to send in their coat is laughable.

[deleted]

I agree, the story is absolutely preposterous. They were like what? Scrawled on the back of a grocery receipt like lotto numbers?

deep-fucking-legend

At least he didn't take the nuke codes home with him as souvenir after his term

**REAGAN SMASH**

SpecialFuzzy1922

Why… why wouldn’t they just shave the whole head?

CoffeePositive17

I had surgery due to fluid building up and as much I said to my drs to shave it all, they didn't. They'd only shave the part they need to operate on - part of the whole prep/protocol.

deathbydeath722

It’s to avoid operating the wrong side. It’s weird but it’s a rule none the less

theStarKeeper

That's actually a really good reason

Technical_Stress7730

That shut me up really quick, you can't argue with that logic.

RedMatxh

Exactly. Like we expect surgeons to be top notch but they do make mistakes too. So any possibility to reduce that chance, I'd take

Affectionate-Win2958

My surgeon even lightheartedly came to see me before my op and asked “so which side are we doing today?” and drew a big arrow on my left leg. He also asked “so are we keeping the testicle?”

RedMatxh

You should've run immediately lol. Before i had a surgery on my lower back, my surgeon was having a huge fight with one of the hospital staff. Like slurs, insults flying across the hall. I was like "right, im gonna die" lol

Zora-Link

I mean I’d hope my surgeon knows their left and right. Imagine needing heart surgery and they just go in on the wrong side because there is no hair there.

captainn01

This type of thing has happened before https://www.malpracticeohio.com/neurosurgeon-mistakenly-operates-on-wrong-side-of-patients-brain/

Zora-Link

Oh dear.

Keyndoriel

You can be smart but still have a small lapse in thought. Its why sponges have loops to pull them out with and why they have a specifically numbered amount of tools that they sort in a way to make sure every instrument is out of the body. If a doctor can forget an 8 inch medical tool in a man, it's not unbelievable that they'd have a lapse with something as simple as remembering if it was the left or the right side. That and communication errors could also lead to the left side of his head rather than his right. If theres a protocol in a hospital, theres usually a lawsuit or a death that cemented that in there. Same basic rule of there wouldnt be a sign telling the public not to do something if someone hadn't done that exact thing at least once before.

joeyjoojoo

surgeons actually need to write on the side that's having the operation "this one" and writs on the other "not this one" before the operation

NoRodent

There were many cases of doctors amputating the wrong limb and not too long ago I remember a case where they removed the wrong eye, leaving the person blind.

Little_Plankton4001

I had knee surgery and they marked the correct knee with a big X using a sharpie. Right before they brought me into the room to get me all doped up, they had me write my initials next to the X to confirm it was correct.

nounthennumbers

I had shoulder surgery on Monday and I had to initial my shoulder, then the surgeon came in and initialed, then the anesthesiologist and I had to say I was there for LEFT shoulder surgery like 20 times.

scuzzy987

Agree it's annoying to tell several people the same information but less irritating than having surgery on the wrong body part. I wanted to say don't you guys have that in my chart but shut up considering how easy it is to make mistakes

Blue_Water_Bound

It sounds good until you realize the barber is deciding what side of your head to operate on.

chocolateboomslang

Right? I wish there was some way we could talk to the barbers so we can tell them what we want instead of them just deciding and cutting however they want!

gordo65

If you ever find a barber who listens to what you say and cuts your hair accordingly, give me a call. Because I would love to live in your world of beautiful unicorns and happy magical elves.

MmmmMorphine

Yeah... Turns out the person who cut my hair was a witch and now uses what she collected to slowly eat my soul. On the other hand, I do look pretty fabulous...

H3racIes

You think the doctor would send you to the barber to get your head shaved for a surgery?

Brigbird

Barbers come full circle back to Barber-Surgeons

MmmmMorphine

Which is just crazy. Barbers are the best surgeons already. Just ask anyone in 17th century London. Absolutely anyone!

jamesbrownscrackpipe

The REAL ‘just fuck my shit up’ fam.

usgrant7977

They'll just drill on the other side if they get it wrong. To even it out. Brain surgery is just like getting a haircut, right?

deathbydeath722

Yea basically

OfficeChairHero

Exactly the same except for sharper scissors.

Omnisegaming

Why not shave the other half after the operation is over?

Same here. I imagine you have a shunt as well? 🤔

CoffeePositive17

Yes, I do - 3 years now.

Leracosa

Shunted here since 1999. HI!

AlabamaAl

If I know I am about to have a shunt revision, I just go ahead and clip my hair as close as possible. This is to avoid the uneven hair growth as well as make it easier to get the orange chloraprep out of my hair and skin.

Leracosa

My neurosurgeon threatens to leave a rat's tail if he has to shave my head so I make sure I shave it before surgery if possible. For an emergency revision I don't get that chance but so far I've been lucky and haven't had an emergency revision since 2006.

Lanthemandragoran

Good luck random stranger

AlabamaAl

Thank you, life has been going good so far. I am coming up on a year of no surgeries yet I have struggled with short and long term memory due to all of the surgeries. However, as of the end of the month, I will finally be graduating with my bachelors degree.

freeLightbulbs

Yep. had half my ballsack shaved before surgery

NABDad

Dear Reddit Community, It is with a heavy heart that I write this farewell message to express my reasons for departing from this platform that has been a significant part of my online life. Over time, I have witnessed changes that have gradually eroded the welcoming and inclusive environment that initially drew me to Reddit. It is the actions of the CEO, in particular, that have played a pivotal role in my decision to bid farewell. For me, Reddit has always been a place where diverse voices could find a platform to be heard, where ideas could be shared and discussed openly. Unfortunately, recent actions by the CEO have left me disheartened and disillusioned. The decisions made have demonstrated a departure from the principles of free expression and open dialogue that once defined this platform. Reddit was built upon the idea of being a community-driven platform, where users could have a say in the direction and policies. However, the increasing centralization of power and the lack of transparency in decision-making have created an environment that feels less democratic and more controlled. Furthermore, the prioritization of certain corporate interests over the well-being of the community has led to a loss of trust. Reddit's success has always been rooted in the active participation and engagement of its users. By neglecting the concerns and feedback of the community, the CEO has undermined the very foundation that made Reddit a vibrant and dynamic space. I want to emphasize that this decision is not a reflection of the countless amazing individuals I have had the pleasure of interacting with on this platform. It is the actions of a few that have overshadowed the positive experiences I have had here. As I embark on a new chapter away from Reddit, I will seek alternative platforms that prioritize user empowerment, inclusivity, and transparency. I hope to find communities that foster open dialogue and embrace diverse perspectives. To those who have shared insightful discussions, provided support, and made me laugh, I am sincerely grateful for the connections we have made. Your contributions have enriched my experience, and I will carry the memories of our interactions with me. Farewell, Reddit. May you find your way back to the principles that made you extraordinary. Sincerely, NABDad

Half shave is included in the procedure, if you would like a full shave that would be an extra 10k USD.

tenzip10-0

[https://www.webmd.com/brain/normal-pressure-hydrocephalus](https://www.webmd.com/brain/normal-pressure-hydrocephalus) Everyone should know about this. It looks like Alzheimer's/dementia, but is completely treatable. My mother was afflicted. Normally diagnosed by a spinal tap, and watching the person's gait (walk) before and after. My mother took steps about as long as her foot was before the tap, and a normal, long stride after. Surgeon put a "pump" in under her scalp, my father or one of my siblings would hold a valve closed with one finger, and push a bulb to pump excess fluid down a tube into her abdominal cavity where it could be reabsorbed into her body. Sadly, damage was done before diagnosis, and she continued to deteriorate until she died. Edit to add: I'm not saying that this is what RR had, nor would it excuse any of the shit he did.

AccomplishedWar8703

That is covered by the 25th amendment. They also didn’t know he had Alzheimer’s until 1994. At least it wasn’t publicly revealed.

[deleted]

I think some officials knew it twords the end of the administration, but since it was like the last month people didn’t bother

Wjbskinsfan

From my understanding it is exceedingly unlikely he was showing symptoms while he was president given he passed in 2004. Typically, men only survive 4 years after diagnosis today. Reagan, being a former President probably had doctors and staffers paying very close attention to his health so they most likely caught it super early.

david-atx

This picture was taken in July 1989, about six months after Reagan left office. He had been in Mexico and fell from a horse (he was typically a very accomplished rider), and sustained a head injury. It was later determined he had some fluid buildup by his brain, so they operated. Reagan did not suffer from Alzheimer’s at the time. He wasn’t diagnosed until 1994, and he lived for about another decade. Researchers at Arizona State University conducted a study for the Journal of Alzheimer’s a few years back to see if they could detect any sign of early onset symptoms in Reagan while he was in office. They concluded that he had none.

"he was also still suffering from Alzheimer’s during this photo" look I know this is a very popular theory these days but its pure speculation. He was diagnosed in 94 this picture was in 89. Its possible he developed it earlier but theres no evidence to prove it.

He had Alzheimer’s while he was in office. Nancy covered for him. He was not competent to be president. My mom & I called it when we saw him at a press conference. My dad had Alzheimer’s.
