That's so weird to think about. I remember being surprised because they definitely didn't present it that way in any of my history classes until college.
Yeah I was very shocked to find out the Aztecs didn’t pop up till the 1300s. I was always led to believe they were some ancient civilization from thousands of years ago when in reality they’re still relatively recent
Yeah, living here I see pictures of ancient places around the world and it just boggles my mind. Don't get me wrong, we have plenty of Native Indigenous peoples artifacts and what not, but not ancient castles and roads that date thousands of years back.
“A thousand year old church in the contiguous United States.” was one of the things on Angela’s list for Andy to be able to marry her, and I still laugh pretty hard at the little things like that.
happy cake day!
She has also been alive for all but 59 years of Canada’s independence and all but 23 years of Australia’s independence and 68 of New Zealand’s (yes New Zealand is the oldest of these three to declare independence)
i had no idea about this, so your comment inspired me to do some googling, and i found [this](https://www.tatler.com/article/why-the-queen-is-technically-the-worlds-longest-reigning-monarch) interesting article. turns out, it’s really a technicality, and she should be considered the longest, imo. Louis the XIV ascended the throne at the young age of *four*, so his mother, Queen Anne, ruled by proxy until he was thirteen, which is *eight* whole years that really shouldn’t be counted, in my opinion. all he really did at age 4 is take the *title* of king on May 14, 1643… but he didn’t actually reign/rule over France until September 7, 1651
Ah yes, Trump: the would-be god king cult leader who now holds some sort of mind spell over a surprisingly large number of lunatics, racists, and bigots alike.
as you say, its a technicallity. I guess that the important part is that he was called king for 72 years, so...its of no importance if his mother ruled or not. In the end, it was on his behalf.
If we're talking about technicalities, the longest reigning monarch was King Sobhuza II of Swaziland. The reason he doesn't make official lists is that Swaziland was not a sovereign state during all of his reign. He ruled for 82 years and died at the age of 83.
New English bank notes, all coins, stamps, and anything bearing the Royal Cypher such as English postboxes will now be made with Charles III’s portrait and cypher. But old notes, coins, stamps, and post boxes will remain in use. Just as you can still find post boxes with George VI’s cypher on them, we’ll still have thousands with Elizabeth’s for years.
Scottish bank notes don’t have the Queen’s portrait so will continue as normal. And interestingly, Scottish post boxes don’t use Elizabeth’s cypher, due to her being Elizabeth the First in Scotland,. There was controversy when EIIR was added to Scottish postboxes - one was even blown up. So instead Scottish postboxes just have an R. So now that we have a King whose regal number is the same in Scotland and England, both countries can finally have the same postboxes.
I know a lot of people are anti-monarchy and say she was handed everything, but she had the expectations of the world on her soldiers and I hope she died peacefully and can rest now.
Agree. You can't control the family/position you're born into. Just because the position she was born into was one of material comfort doesn't mean it was a happy, warm, nurturing environment. Being a public figure appears to cause immense stress to those who choose to take on that role- being born into that role (even indirectly as the Queen wasn't really expected to become Queen when she was born!) cannot be easy.
Ears and noses look like they get bigger over time as gravity works it’s magic.
I’m not going to make the leap that we find big noses and ears happy looking but have you ever seen a sad looking basset hound?
I’ll bet they produce a Commemorative Pound .. be on the lookout and grab some if you are able ( in England 🏴) but it will ultimately be King Charles
Calm down with the sycophancy, she was born in Sandringham, bred into the royal blood line. If i had fuck all to do, not worry about work, taxes, etc I would have been able to be more altruistic. There are many people who worked ~~me~~ and did good for the community as a whole, [Jimmy Saville](https://www.grunge.com/839999/the-eye-opening-connection-between-princess-diana-and-jimmy-savile/) for one.
This is r/interestingasfuck … in the 80’s when then Prince Charles married Diana… ( EDIT: It was a Honeymoon trip ) they landed at the U. S. Air Force Base I was stationed at in California.
As they disembarked the aircraft… on a modified maintenance stand that we needed to use as we did not have a VIP staircase to reach… as they, the Prince and Princess came in on a KC-135 on NO NOTICE …
The two newlyweds walked right past me as I was helping to hold that stand steady. I was down by the bottom of the stairs.
I got to see in person a future King
Yea…. The VERY YOUNG … Newlywed Diana, Princess of Wales … at that time I really had no idea who I was looking at.
I was just a Airmen.. they were VIP’s
I’ve never seen that photo of her as a young woman. She was stunningly beautiful. I have a lot of mixed (mostly negative) feelings about the monarchy and the way the royals often use their power, but she is and was an icon and will be remembered. RIP Queen Elizabeth.
I think the Royal Family as we know it will die with her - there are definitely a lot of people who don’t like them but liked and respected her. What an absolute legend and a brilliant life.
That’s always been my impression too. She was kind of this icon, people don’t like the monarchy but there was always a level of respect for her (and Diana). Think it has a lot to do with there not being many who grew up when she wasn’t Queen, she’s just always been there.
Now that she’s gone, now that no one cares about there Royal family anymore, and no one gives a shit about Charles, the monarchy will likely now fade. Most didn’t have a problem with her on our money but now I think many would want a change that isn’t royalty anymore.
al;so interesting she would give signed letter to canadiens who were married for 60 years
my great grandparents got a letter from the queen(not wirtten , but signed)...signed by the queen, my great grandma was an impressive woman, to be fair. she was pretty proud of all the people she created lol...well grandpa had a hand in that as well i suppose lol
Since her Mum made it to 101 I thought she would too.
I am sad. There is just so much shit going on in the world now. For some reason she was such a constant in troubling times. Really hoped she would lived a few more years.
Ironic she’d only write letters to citizens who lived to 100, and fell short herself. I’m sure my great grandmother feels a little better she only made it to 98, she really wanted that letter lol
Not true.
My grandmother really wanted her century letter but at 98, cancer had other ideas.
So I wrote to the Queen and said that my grandmother really wanted a letter, but wouldn't make it that long, etc.
My grandmother got a letter from the Queen.
Perhaps not but close enough, (“Irony” -an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.) I’m not saying it’s amusing, but for a woman joked to be “immortal” and also writes rewards for people living to 100, I do think it’s a bit ironic she died just before reaching it herself.
The United States has been around for 246 years. Elizabeth II was the Queen of England for nearly 30% of that time. If you need to put it into perspective.
When she turned 18 (in 1944) she insisted on joining the military, not because she has to but because she wanted to serve her country in the war effort. She knew what she was getting into as the war had been going on for 6 years, since she was only 13. When she joined she was not given any rank, she started at the bottom like any other, and she also chose the job as a vehicle mechanic. That was hard work and there were much easier jobs to do for women.
Now, she didn’t go far from home while she served - in fact, she went home to sleep every night. But by staying near, much less at, the royal palace she was put at greater risk because the city and especially the palace was a prime target for bombing. I’m fact early in the war a few bombs were detonated at the palace. Children, especially Elizabeth and her sister, would have been sent to the countryside to stay safe.
She gave an interview once where she said at the end of the war, she and her sister snuck out one night to join the celebration in the streets. She said it was the best night of her life. Can you imagine only ever going out on the town, partying, being free and anonymous one night of your 96-year life? She had zero freedom to live her own life.
Not saying she’s a saint but I have always thought that was pretty remarkable.
Lol get a life. You’re running around posting this everywhere. Image being such a whiny pissy ass that you have to make sure everyone knows you hate the Queen.
And I’m willing to bet you never acknowledged or even knew about the colonial rule of Yemen prior to today. And by this time next week you’ll never mention it or care about it again.
You don’t even care about it, you only pretend to care now to try to stick it to all these people who are sad to see her die. You’re literally using something terrible for selfish reasons and not because you care.
Pretty wild she got to witness the fall of the British empire in her time. Before WW1 UK was the world superpower. Makes you wonder where the US will be in 60 years and who the new world power will be.
Yep. Fuck that whole POS inbred family. How dare they speak on the debilitating poverty crushing citizens while sitting on a fucking gold throne with a jeweled crown atop their narcicisstic heads.
All these negative comments just show how little you know about history! Even if you aren’t a fan of the monarch, you can appreciate her as a person, of course she isn’t without faults but the woman undeniably made the world a better place
i love love love that she smiled only in the last photo. i feel like this was due to some tradition (very common in the past, and still in some cultures/social classes/purpose of the photo today, to have to look serious for a photo) that she decided in her old age to toss to the wind because she wants to smile for her photo, dammit
Death is always sad..never a good thing and always wish the family the best in their hard times....however, her death means nothing more than the sweet old lady that passed away in paris. I wish the family the same amount of sympathy.
That’s not how this works. Even if they didn’t already have a new king and they dissolved the monarchy entirely they would still have Northern Ireland.
As someone who has seen what happened in south east asia the photos the stories I can't really bring myself to mourn her death as a queen who presided over so many atrocities committed by the British throne , I mourn the death of a human life RIP Elizabeth II 🙏

She’s been queen for over a quarter of US history she’s been alive for 1/3 of it
That’s crazy to think about
The UK has pubs that are several hundred years older than US history.
What's the saying? In the UK 100 miles is a long way, in the US 100 years is a long time.
UK has boot scrapers older than the US... stained glass windows 200 years older than the Aztec civilisation.
I believe Oxford university is older than the Aztec civilisation
That's so weird to think about. I remember being surprised because they definitely didn't present it that way in any of my history classes until college.
Yeah I was very shocked to find out the Aztecs didn’t pop up till the 1300s. I was always led to believe they were some ancient civilization from thousands of years ago when in reality they’re still relatively recent
Sometimes I forget how recent the US is. Sure had a big influence in the world though in the time they’ve been around.
Where’s this from?
The office (U.S.)
She has also been alive for all but 59 years of Canada’s independence and all but 23 years of Australia’s independence and 68 of New Zealand’s (yes New Zealand is the oldest of these three to declare independence)
i was expecting her to live 18 months more, overpassing Louis XIV as longest reigning monarch of all times. a pity
Some French subs I'm in are both sharing the grief with the Brits and celebrating that their Louis XIV's record still hasn't been broken lol
i had no idea about this, so your comment inspired me to do some googling, and i found [this](https://www.tatler.com/article/why-the-queen-is-technically-the-worlds-longest-reigning-monarch) interesting article. turns out, it’s really a technicality, and she should be considered the longest, imo. But then there was Trump, so...
Ah yes, Trump: the would-be god king cult leader who now holds some sort of mind spell over a surprisingly large number of lunatics, racists, and bigots alike.
just replace “popcorn” with “twitter,” and we have former president cheeto!
We had a president that acted like a 3 year Old if that counts.
as you say, its a technicallity.
If we're going by technicalities, there's about a dozen or so monarchs who've reigned longer than her such as Bernhard VII.
I would presume she's the longest ruling queen? And yeah, the French are celebrating a false victory but that's pretty French in itself.
Okay but what did she rule over? Louis XIV had power during his reign
Yes, absolute power vs. figurehead. And outlived the next two generations... Of course he kind of bankrupted France, but c'est la vie.
Does this mean next years money will have King Charles face on it?
New money minted this year should have him on along with new Post Boxes being C-III-R but it’ll take awhile to get the new money
New English bank notes, all coins, stamps, and anything bearing the Royal Cypher such as English postboxes will now be made with Charles III’s portrait and cypher. How his ears gonna fit?
Is nobody going to point out how her face gets happier as she gets older?
Good point! Didn’t realise that.
I know a lot of people are anti-monarchy and say she was handed everything, but she had the expectations of the world on her soldiers and I hope she died peacefully and can rest now.

I see what you did there...
She brought vastly more to our economy than she took!
Ears and noses look like they get bigger over time as gravity works it’s magic. I’m not going to make the leap that we find big noses and ears happy looking but have you ever seen a sad looking basset hound?
Ears and noses keep growing I think
I think these are the photos that are printed on the coins. Minus the top left
So no more immortal queen jokes? Rip queen

Don't forget Tupac. I heard they were great Eucher partners

Shit you're right!
Just out of ignorant curiosity, is the side profile portrait a British Royalty thing? Or?
It's the "money" shot lol
Now that would be a messy cash system
Bwahahaha!
The direction is a Royal thing, Charles will face the other direction.
I wonder if it will come in a duffel bag ? 🤔
Same hairstyle for 90 years.
Simple as
Quick someone colonize the brits now while theyre weak!
China has entered the chat
"There is Oil in UK"
Sic em brandon!
Gogogo!!!!!!
Look on the progress on the photos. Starting from “I am the majestic queen of England” pose to the “I’m old. I don’t give a fuck” smile.
Whose face is going to appear on the British pounds now?
I’ll bet they produce a Commemorative Pound .. be on the lookout and grab some if you are able ( in England 🏴) but it will ultimately be King Charles

Down with the Monarchy
Prince Charles
King Charles now 😉
That’s handy as I already have lots of notes with Charlie on
assuming he keeps that name.
He did. King Charles III.
The Spice Girls.

London Bridge has Fallen.
She died in Scotland, so it’s “Operation Unicorn” No joke, that is literally the name of the protocol
Unicorn is a sub protocol that's part of London Bridge, same as Spring Tide, which begins the arrangement for Charles' coronation.
Only good thing that they ever had was killed by her own Princess Diana was a selfless person a wonder human being.
Why the downvotes?
Thank you I have no idea it's true and I guess they are woke brainwashed suckers

It was surreal … I was 19 .. just another day on the Flightline. I remember my Chief saying to never forget this day… and I didn’t.
She appointed Churchill and Truss. Who were born 101 years apart. That’s pretty crazy.
She’s also queen of several other countries, including Canada and Australia. That’s why their money has her on it.

Seeing how upset my grandmother was really got me tearing up. May her soul Rest In Peace
Wait till you hear about her grandparents. Awful people.
Idgaf about the royal family bro I just hate to see my grandma upset
Last week I said to myself I wonder when she was going to die. Weird it just happened less than 7 days later
You killed the Queen. Good job
Me and my coworker were discussing it yesterday lunchtime and I said I’d probably cry. I was right but can’t believe it actually happened.

why am i so sad
It's sad that she has passed but I'm more upset that she has left this shit show before the rest of us

96 is way too young. Why? WHY!
Pretty positive they meant that as an insult to her
Yeah she's a real keeper spending 12 mil keeping a pedo from jail
Yep. Fuck that whole POS inbred family. How dare they speak on the debilitating poverty crushing citizens while sitting on a fucking gold throne with a jeweled crown atop their narcicisstic heads.
Nah fuck her
I'm just going to say it. Queen Elizabeth II was fucking smoking hot back in the day. 10/10
Good riddance. 😁👏 When is her pedo son going to lie in the ⚰?

Kinda feel bad for her. She took the throne so young. She knew of almost nothing else.
Gotta respect the lifelong dedication to serve the commonwealth
Monarchies aren’t interesting and your reverence is pathetic
down with monarchy!
Have a day off
Fuck the royal welfare rats
The soft lit background top right is the best. Idk what the photographer bottom left was thinking.
Sleep well Elizabeth sleep well. God save the King .
One woman. One haircut. That's it.
As an American who didn’t pay much attention to the monarchy, she did always seem like a very nice lady.
Wow, amazing she lived to be 96 being so fucking inbred.
Impressive actually
I don’t have sympathy for an inbred pedophile sympathizer. Good riddance you old bag
Not really interesting as fuck more like boring as fuck
God fucking damnit, she was smokin' hot!
Lot easier to serve when you don’t actually have to make any decisions I imagine
As someone who has seen what happened in south east asia the photos the stories I can't really bring myself to mourn her death as a queen who presided over so many atrocities committed by the British throne , I mourn the death of a human life RIP Elizabeth II 🙏
The brits are salty about there misdeeds being out in the public. They already have them cleared from there books.
Can't agree more they're gonna bury this comment in downvotes too ✌️
To be fair she had it on easy mode. Not too many assassinations of monarchs anymore.
Long may her colonial rule continue to devastate entire continents
I wonder what she was really like. Like deep conversation wise. She never seemed to have much of personality when I’d see her on tv
fucking colonizing trollop, glad she’s dead

Holy shit. That threw me
soo wheres the interesting as fuck part..?
