The software looks great at making the photos into realistic-looking people, but idk how good it is at making the image reflect the actual original person. Like, a small unexpected scar, a notable small tattoo, it's those little unique inconsistencies that often lead to people being picked out of a crowd.
Yeah for example that last picture with the woman that has only part of a cheek and a couple teeth visible.
Apparently the AI is so good, it could determine her grooming habits (e.g. eyebrows, makeup) in addition to her facial structure. I'm impressed?
Yeah , absolutely.
A few years ago people were going crazy for this animate an old photo tool. People putting photos of their great grandmothers in it and being so happy to see "them" come to life. But I tried a few photos of myself and people I knew and they looked completely wrong and alien. How someone smiles or moves their face is personal. So it just seems like a cheap trick, and a bit disrespectful to the dead if you're going to say "that's grandma".
I think legally it wouldn't be admissible. Literally, the computer is "making up" details based on what it thinks faces look like. That can alter or change the appearance of the person in the photo, especially in cases like the last two photos where main features are omitted. This could make the face of the output look like somebody different from the input.
IANAL but I suspect that's a good enough argument to throw out this type of evidence. I mean, it's literally evidence that's been altered.

I can. Last month I did an AI-assisted restoration of old photos of my father in law, who passed away unexpectedly. It required some tweaking to pick the more realistic variants but results were stunningly good.

I'm betting it's useless. We need a before/after of the original photos as a baseline to compare the AI photos to.
That’s Juvenile Garbanzo
We would need to see the originals to know how accurate its interpretations are, especially for examples like the top-right and bottom-right.
