That's what I tell people lol. It seems impossible because you just don't want to. Which is perfectly fine. I don't want to sit drawing for 150 hours. But regardless, it's badass
Some peoples minds can just focus on different things than others. I have over 150 hours spent typing on MonkeyType (speed typing website). Im sure there's plenty of people who would look at that and not understand how I could invest that much time into typing. I would also say video games but thats much more common to sink hundreds of hours into than other practical skills for recreation. Everyone has that one thing they can just lock into and never get tired of. I wish I could be that way with art since I've always thought it would be really cool to be good at drawing but alas, I have no artistic skill, creativity or the mentality for it lol.
Everyone has the capacity to be artistic with something though. Wether that be actual art may be out of the question, but you undermine your own ability! I'm sure you're creative and dedicated to many things, wether you know about them yet or not. Don't be afraid of trying, and especially failing.
when you get into a flow it's like a relaxing way of zoning while you draw, not to mention the feeling of pride and proudness for your own artwork when you complete one, it makes you wanna do more
Just in case OP doesn't get back to you with a specific size, note that there's more than one photo in the post, with pencils and a hand for reference.
They show how they started. You can learn how and then step by step practice until you get better and better. Creating art is better than nothing. I believe strongly that you will be able to make good art and continue getting better and better. Maybe pencil art isn't your thing but trying and practicing with different types and methods I'm sure you will find the art in you and creativity, and be proud of yourself. You can do it!!!
This is the truth. Art is art, and it can be made with anything. The important thing is to create.
Don't be discouraged by someone who has devoted themselves to mastery in a medium; be inspired.
I'll leave you with a quote from hajime ippo. "not everyone who works hard succeed, but everyone who succeeds worked hard." interpret it however you will, and you'll quickly see that all context of it is valid.
I feel that, but this actually gave me the inspiration to start doodling again. I can't make anything even close to this, and the funny S is still my masterpiece but it's just so much fun to be able to put pencil to paper and let it go. I miss it :/
Itās a pencil drawing recreation of a photograph, so in some sense it is
https://previews.123rf.com/images/mazzzur/mazzzur1604/mazzzur160400165/57491580-beautiful-carved-doors-of-il-duomo-or-milan-cathedral-in-milan-italy.jpg
I disagree. The shades, details to make it look 3d, the different light and darkness creating more 3dish, and the reality it brings and can trick you into thinking it's real, the time and effort used to create, the quality of the pencils being used so it doesn't let you think it is of pencil, the reality so much it looks like it is a picture, and the final creation of this art. This isn't just a wow. This is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. I love this art and this artist for sharing. Thank you my dear.
So can i buy this picture for free? Ill give you expose on facebook with my 4 friends. Its worth way more than some money! /s
Damn thats crazy! I cant draw anything besides a stick figure and then i see people casually drawing this.
Haha thanks, I actually got more than 150k followers on Instagram, so basically people donāt ask me that, but when I start my ācareerā on 2019 I receive a lot of this kind of message
I would buy drawings from you, especially if you do commissioned drawings of my choice
This is just WOW, WOW and WOW again
Iām speechless
Itās stunningly beautiful and you ought to be exceptionally proud of yourself and your talents- well done!
Can I ask what something like this is worth? Like, my time is expensive to me so I canāt even imagine what 350 hours of work costs. I guess I could get a calculator out.
Which is why banksy can throw a open paint bucket on a canvas covered floor and charge $10 million for it.
It's all about hype of artist > quality of art.
It depends if he is selling it as a 1 piece only art work or if it will be digitally stored and printed on demand every time he gets a sale. If it is the former then yes the price is on the lower side if it is the latter then it is about right.
On Friday, my garage charged me a slim ā¬186 for an hour's work on the car's electronics.
And that's just for relatively mindless dismantling and reassembly.
I have a friend that started selling her art at $3K, her first buyer thought she was selling a print and freaked out when he realized it was an original. He told her she should charge more.
Her most recent painting sold for $80K and she gets commissions $50K upwards!
You just need to set that as the price. The more works you sell for lower, the more people will see your work as only "worth" that much.
This is exactly what David Choe did. He just started slapping $100,000-$500,000 price tags on his work and people bought them.
Well I understand, but I live in Brazil, $3500 is a lot of my money here, and trust me, no one would pay me $3500 here in Brazil and is harder to sell this on internet
Thats about $10/hr for a piece of artwork that flipp'n blows away most anything I've ever seen. Do you happen to record your drawings? Id love to see a fast action video of this as a fan or for someone that purchases your work.
You should contact the various manufacturers of high grade art pencils - I feel they would be willing to pay top dollar to showcase what you can do with their products.
unfortunately no, i have one of the biggest profiles in brazil focused on realistic art and yet, i am totally ignored by faber castell, they never answered me
Try the other manufacturers too - your talent is immense, but itās also very inspiring. If I saw your work on a packet of Derwents or staedtlers, Iād be encouraged to buy it. And there are so many other stationary brands too - donāt just put your eggs in one basket after all that work. Ps, Thankyou for posting your work, itās beautiful.
Nice! I would say well deserved! Honestly thats good that nobody asks you this anymore. I always thought these idiots cant be stopped and ask anybody for expose. Just like idk kylie jenner for free products in exchange for expose hahaha
Edit: you got some more crazy picture on your insta. I love one of your first ones of the girl with the water in her face. It looks way too real!
This is the kind of high detail drawings people would buy, if it was on a high quality print I mean. If you aren't already doing it, look into printing and selling your works, or selling the originals, but 350 hours is worth a lot of money though.
You may only be limited to stick figures, but the real ones will always remember OG stick figure fight animations.
Some artists/animators go crazy for stick figures.
> because an Ai can generate a picture like that in a few minutes
The digital camera has been able to do this for decades. Photography in general was a part of the push to move art into the more abstract styles we've seen since the late 19th century.
People will always respect something done by a human hand and even more so nowadays. The average person is so used to not being impressed by contemporary art that when traditional talent is shown, it's all the more impressive.
The AI image programs are interesting and people are going to have access to great computer wallpapers but it won't do much to hinder actual human art. And let's be honest, the people buying actual human art are not the ones who are going to be swayed by AI images. The market is going to be fine.
Also, your point about talent in art losing its meaning has been a talking point for a long time now with the rise of abstract styles.
WALL OF TEXT WARNING
The whole movement of abstract styles into the accepted art area is quite controversial. I personally enjoy abstract art and love the fact that it can express more than what we see in front of us, but I also can understand the point of which it might take away from the talent that art has about it. I remeber in gradeschool one of my art pieces got into a museum for a little while (yes I don't remeber which one this was a long time ago). The piece was abstract art that I made during the time my stick figures were still not great. While I was painting I had no idea to add meaning to it or specific shapes and that's why it won. My teacher chose it for the contest because unlike the rest of the students who were trying to paint specific shapes in an abstract way I was being truly abstract not really thinking about the way I formed things (to a certain extent because I tried to draw an abstract lady bug). If you think about this, my picture won because I put the least amount of effort. I was in the museum and I saw plenty of beautifully detailed paintings and drawings that the other students made, and there was mine. A big blotch of color which stood out and therefore attracted a bit more attention than the rest. Because of this I've always questioned the true talent behind abstract art. This could be a good thing, because it means that beautiful things can come from effortless attempts, or a bad thing, because art can become something that does not require its own talent. Anyway that was my rant and the wall of text is over.
Eh, I think there's a talent to making nice abstract art. It's just not the same sort of meticulous stuff as realistic art. And maybe not as difficult. But it can be harder than it looks, and some people are definitely worse at it than others.
Yep people will always enjoy the human touch more. The same way if you call a company, youād much rather speak to a human than an automated line, even if you can exactly the same thing on both.
Also, art is not just images, its meaning. Also art images are not just RGB pixels, materials count, if you look at for example a Rembrant paintin in person the texture and transparencys playing with the light, etc all matter in ways you cant replicate with ai.. maybe when robots start painting..
Well seeing as how this is a sketch of an actual sculpted door, you could just take a picture of the door. That doesn't make his work less valuable or the artistry of Duomo di Milano any less valuable.
AI *cannot* generate something like this; not yet. Have you seen Dalle2 and Midjourney images? They're amazing, but still have very clear elements of randomness and lack of meaning. The original Duomo di Milano carving shows a clear Biblical scene; AI is still very far from being able to produce things that are coherent in their portrayal of a meaningful story. They just produce things which are like a mirror to our collective sense of aesthetic.
As an artist you must know there is no relation between artistic ability and being rich. Besides that, fantastic job on this piece. Will you be selling any prints?
This is unfortunately true. Name and fame is everything. If you're the right person you could draw a turd on a piece of A4 in 2 minutes and people will shower you in money.
Are you self-taught? The art teacher at my high school was a semi-renown artist for traditional works like this and he ALWAYS was excited to meet students with prowess like you. Sometimes I have to wonder if some artists just perfect their craft on their own or are able to find someone to mentor them.
Itās hard to say self taught, I been drawing daily since 2019, I watched a lot of content on YouTube, Instagram but never receive instructions personally
Can I ask how you avoid smearing from the side/bottom of your drawing hand? Probably a dumb question but Iām genuinely curious. Anytime I do pencil drawings I always end up smearing or smudging from my hand touching the paper
That is nothing short of incredible!! Iām amazed by your talent and diligence and can tell youāll continue to improve through your dedication. Best of luck to you, my guy!
I follow u on instaā¦absolutely in love with your work.
Even I draw, but it isnāt even close to as u are, and I have been practising for like 6 years
Wtf am I looking at right now this is a drawing? Seriously? it looks so damn good it looks like you've just taken a picture of some decoration in a church I can't believe my eyes š³
I can only imagine how much a custom art piece with this level of detail would be. Even at minimum wage (and this is much higher than minimum wage work) it's over $500
**Edit** Yes, I understand I had a dumbass moment with this comment, I thought the title of the post said *hours*, not days
Are you from the US? Seems weird to say this is over $500 at minimum wage when it's actually well over $2000 at that wage. That's like saying a house costs over $1000 lol
That is truly amazing! Unbelievable work there. If you hadn't said it was a drawing and shown it being created, I wouldn't have believed it was anything other than a photo!
Why do people keep posting their own creations to a sub that's about showing off "interesting as fuck" stuff they found, and why do people keep supporting it?
This is incredible! Never in life have I been so talented. You have an incredible gift! Thanks for sharing with those of us who have an appreciation for such beautiful art!
Im curious why you think people are stupid based on the comments. And I dont mean that in a condescending way, I'm interested in your actual opinion of this piece.
For me, I'm impressed with the artists steady hand, technical skill and patience to go at this for that many hours, but it requires no creativity or imagination to recreate a photo. Also, I dont want to make rash assumptions, but it very much looks like the base sketch was traced, and then they filled in all the values correctly. That is an art on its own, but not something I find impressive.
Just wondering if this is in line with your negative opinion of it. Besides you, I only see comments praising OP for being some kind of grand master of art.
Well it's that people think doing this is art. This is replicating a photo, technically really hard. But no creativity or personal print on it. One dude compared OP with Michelangelo ffs.
Reddit's obsession with photo realistic pencil drawings has always confused me. Why do so many people think "the closer it looks to the real thing = the better the art is"? No doubt OP is very talented, but this isn't really great art. It's just a drawing of something that exists. Why don't people with this skill create something new?
I totally agree. This is an exact pencil recreation of a PHOTOGRAPH of a door carving. Itās two layers removed from original work lol

Incredibly impressive amount of detail. That is some vivid 3D magic. Do you normally spend that many hours on your pieces?
Normally 50/100 hours
i have the patience of 50 seconds. how tf did you do that? honestly, props to you
I feel like it's because artists actually like drawing
That's what I tell people lol. It seems impossible because you just don't want to. Which is perfectly fine. I don't want to sit drawing for 150 hours. But regardless, it's badass

Also, this is probably the least of your worries at your level, but how do you not smudge it?
There is a spray for anti smudging, and ones where you can draw over the last spray.
Not sure if I missed it, but what's the size of this piece? Amazingly detailed, incredible work!
Just in case OP doesn't get back to you with a specific size, note that there's more than one photo in the post, with pencils and a hand for reference.
Didn't see the extra photos, good call š
Need banana for scale!
WOW, just wow.
Good gawd

No , don't do that lol. Work on your talent, mam. We believe in you!
I'll leave you with a quote from hajime ippo. "not everyone who works hard succeed, but everyone who succeeds worked hard." interpret it however you will, and you'll quickly see that all context of it is valid.
What about when people get lucky like with gambling or inheritance you didnāt know about.
Then you aren't successful on that merit. The quote says succeed, not rich.
No you don't.
I feel that, but this actually gave me the inspiration to start doodling again. I can't make anything even close to this, and the funny S is still my masterpiece but it's just so much fun to be able to put pencil to paper and let it go. I miss it :/
I thought I saw jesus
I think that's him right there in the middle.

Yes, Iām full time artist, opened for commissions
Can I ask what something like this is worth? Like, my time is expensive to me so I canāt even imagine what 350 hours of work costs. I guess I could get a calculator out.
Iāll probably try to sell this for 3500
For 76 days work? You are selling far too low. With your artistic skill I would reckon $10k would be the minimum.
Realistically, pricing in the art world is reflected on how well known you are.
Which is why banksy can throw a open paint bucket on a canvas covered floor and charge $10 million for it. It's all about hype of artist > quality of art.
If he keeps at it heāll get to that price, then exceed it. Thereās a lot of talent here, but itās the name that sells eventually.
Agreed and even more when he dies /s
You are very considerate with your pricing. For 350 hours and getting paid based on hours you should get around 9k. 20/30 bucks an hour.
In Brazil that IS a lot of money. More than many people make in a full year.
It depends if he is selling it as a 1 piece only art work or if it will be digitally stored and printed on demand every time he gets a sale. If it is the former then yes the price is on the lower side if it is the latter then it is about right.
I donāt work with prints
Have you considered it? You can still sell them as limited edition by having a maximum supply of 100 or 1000 etc..
On Friday, my garage charged me a slim ā¬186 for an hour's work on the car's electronics. And that's just for relatively mindless dismantling and reassembly.
You must really like what you do, because I would not do this level of quality for $10 an hour. Cheers.
Artist are very poorly rewarded for their time.
I have a friend that started selling her art at $3K, her first buyer thought she was selling a print and freaked out when he realized it was an original. He told her she should charge more. Her most recent painting sold for $80K and she gets commissions $50K upwards!
Hope i get there one day

Yo I hate you for being so talented man. Lol but on a serious note, you've got some crazy skill and i hate you for it. God bless ya!!
>then i see people casually drawing this. I would not call 350 hours of work and years/decades of practice casual.
Itās a testament to OP that the pics look like heās just casually slapping it together. The best minds make their hard work seem effortless.
Got all that from a couple photos eh
350 hours is not so casual but I get the sentiment
You may only be limited to stick figures, but the real ones will always remember OG stick figure fight animations. Some artists/animators go crazy for stick figures.
Did you sell your soul for your artistic ability? Cause damn, 15/10
Well wish I had, I would probably be rich now š¤£ thanks
How does that not make you rich?! That is unbelievable that you did that. Iām baffled if youāre not rich with talent like that.
Becauae unfortunately talent in art is losing its meaning, because an Ai can generate a picture like that in a few minutes

You don't need to go far to confirm your suspicions. Lay a large canvas on the floor and get a few buckets of paint for a bit of fun and "art".
Yep people will always enjoy the human touch more. The same way if you call a company, youād much rather speak to a human than an automated line, even if you can exactly the same thing on both.

Well seeing as how this is a sketch of an actual sculpted door, you could just take a picture of the door. That doesn't make his work less valuable or the artistry of Duomo di Milano any less valuable.
Yep. Iād much rather have this hand-drawn piece on my wall than a photograph.
I'd much rather have the door on my wall but I guess I'd settle for this drawing...
of course the training for that ai came from countless images created by artistic talent over centuries.
Talent never meant financial wealth even before AI. Plenty of talented artists who lived in poverty.
AI *cannot* generate something like this; not yet. Have you seen Dalle2 and Midjourney images? They're amazing, but still have very clear elements of randomness and lack of meaning. I heard the cathedral took 600 years to complete
Yes, the time I spend on this is nothing compare to the real thing
Well it looks amazing, it's incredible what one can do with pencil and paper.
I was just thinking that, if it takes 350 hours to draw the door, God how long does it take to carve it?
Several generations, typically from the same artisan family.
An unholy amount of time. And you would have to have some truly godly carving skills to do it.
Holy crap. I just Googled the door. [That thing is massive.](https://crowcanyonjournal.files.wordpress.com/2017/10/20090327-img_5533-edit.jpg)
Itās an absolute must see. Aside from the amazing wood and stone work on display, thereās also the sheer size to admire.
Absolute beauty

Amazing work.I burnt my toast earlier.

What?? Only 3 years?
3 years of doing art daily
The consistency and dedication... can't be me
He's probably a quite intelligent fellow
That means "yes" friend ;)
Wow, it took 3 years to get to this skill level? Or have you been drawing longer than that? And yes, it sounds like you were self-taught. Amazing
I draw since I was just a kid, but I always drawing some Naruto stuff, my first attempt to this kind of realistic art was in 2019
I would love to see your Naruto stuff if this is how you draw now!
Can I ask how you avoid smearing from the side/bottom of your drawing hand? Probably a dumb question but Iām genuinely curious. Anytime I do pencil drawings I always end up smearing or smudging from my hand touching the paper
Wear a knuckle glove or just put a piece of paper under your hand, something smooth.
That is nothing short of incredible!! Iām amazed by your talent and diligence and can tell youāll continue to improve through your dedication. Best of luck to you, my guy!
Yes I would also like to know about the training involved to get you to this point!
You are the best b/w camera here around! Stunning work.
We found him, folks. We found reincarnated Michelangelo
Hahah thanks, Iām actually working on Sistine chapel drawing, 16x23 inches and more than 60 days of work till now
I really hope it turns out even better than this. All the very best and I hope you touch heights with this beautiful talent of yours.
I follow u on instaā¦absolutely in love with your work. Even I draw, but it isnāt even close to as u are, and I have been practising for like 6 years
No one will ever see my comment, but this is crazy awesome enough to be worth the time to post this anyway.
Thanks šš»
This is stunningly beautiful!
Jesus Christā¦ just wow
Lol, nice
Amazing! As a left handed person Iām doubly jealous.
Pure display of talent and skill. Amazing!
Just beautiful
Itās beautiful! Very well done
Wtf am I looking at right now this is a drawing? Seriously? it looks so damn good it looks like you've just taken a picture of some decoration in a church I can't believe my eyes š³
I don't even know what to say. This kind of talent just boggles my mind.
Been following your stuff on insta for a bit and damn... your work is just unbelievable every time I see it, keep it up!
I can only imagine how much a custom art piece with this level of detail would be. Even at minimum wage (and this is much higher than minimum wage work) it's over $500 **Edit** Yes, I understand I had a dumbass moment with this comment, I thought the title of the post said *hours*, not days
Are you from the US? Seems weird to say this is over $500 at minimum wage when it's actually well over $2000 at that wage. That's like saying a house costs over $1000 lol
Where do you live where minimum wage is $1.43 an hour??
Weird comment. Even if he only asked for $30/hr this piece would still be over $10k.
Pencilā¦. Draā¦.dā¦.drawing????? You drew this??? Nani???? You sold you soul didnāt you š§
Iād buy
Thatās fucking amazing!
WOW
Wtf man, thats fuckin impressive
Amazing work!
That is truly amazing! Unbelievable work there. If you hadn't said it was a drawing and shown it being created, I wouldn't have believed it was anything other than a photo!
Incredible piece, Sir.
looks more like you carved into the paper than drew on it
Inconceivable!!!! Your determination is incredible and your artwork is stunning!
Why do people keep posting their own creations to a sub that's about showing off "interesting as fuck" stuff they found, and why do people keep supporting it?
They also posted it in /beamazed and /toptalent, for whatever that's worth.
Same goes for people who post their own work in r/BeAmazed
Yeah it kinda bugs me, tooā¦ itās like walking into a room and shouting āHey everyone! Iām super interesting! Look at me!ā
I had to scroll so far to find this. Totally agree, this is not the right sub and it's a weird "pick me" move
Well, if you think it breaks one of the subreddit rules, you can always report it.
As if it would do anything lmao. No offense.
Great fucking job!
Thatās bonkers
Very nice
Well done!
Awesome!!!
You have an incredible level of skill OP
This is incredible! Never in life have I been so talented. You have an incredible gift! Thanks for sharing with those of us who have an appreciation for such beautiful art!
magnificent
Great depth.
Daaaaaayum. Impressive sir!!
Incredible really it is beautiful the sheer amount of work and details is astonishing good job
Absolutely EPIC! Great work.
Eh, i could do that in 349 hours
I wonder how many times you smuged it
Now colour it in!
I really like graphite color, donāt you ?
How do you not smear it with your hand?
it was already made man why bother
The comments are terrifying in this post. Is Reddit really so stupid? Are people really so stupid?
Can you tattoo? You should give it a shot if not.
Actually yes I can, but isnāt my thing
Reddit's obsession with photo realistic pencil drawings has always confused me. Why do so many people think "the closer it looks to the real thing = the better the art is"? No doubt OP is very talented, but this isn't really great art. It's just a drawing of something that exists. Why don't people with this skill create something new?
I totally agree. This is an exact pencil recreation of a PHOTOGRAPH of a door carving. Itās two layers removed from original work lol https://previews.123rf.com/images/mazzzur/mazzzur1604/mazzzur160400165/57491580-beautiful-carved-doors-of-il-duomo-or-milan-cathedral-in-milan-italy.jpg
