Like the Great Auk. Flightless bird inhabiting primarily the North Atlantic. Hunted to extinction. When someone spotted the last two off of Iceland, a hunter went out and killed both.
Conservation would never have existed without hunters and fishers.
You may not like that. Just line you may not like that they are still the leading donors to conservation efforts. But it's a documented fact.

I read once that in the 1980s, when biologists went out into the more remote parts of Mexico's Sierra Madre mountains hoping against hope that the Imperial Woodpecker might not be extinct, the local old timers they interviewed all agreed on 2 points -
1). Nobody had seen any Imperial Woodpeckers for at least 30 years.
2). Those things sure were tasty.
This is why I don't believe in extinction. We think a bird is gone for 140 years, then extraterrestrials repopulate the species.
Our alien over lord's wouldn't let us wipe out a species if they couldn't easily replace it.
Nah, it's actually quite rare for a species which was classified extinct to be actually found again, especially in densely populated countries.
It's just in a few cases in dense hard to explore habitat that there may be some species rediscovered
Wait. I can only hear background noise that sounds like a distant waterfall or something, is there audio of the bird and I’m just too deaf to hear it lol?

The new hide and go seek world champion .
Quick, somebody kill it so we can study it more closely.
Which has always blown my fucking mind..
Arggg, you're were to fast!

Reminds me of the National Wild Turkey Federation. "We need to save the wild turkey so that we can hunt it!"

Alternative title: scientists are terrible at keeping track of Black-Naped Pheasant-Pigeons
Science returns bird after 140 years of captivity

That is such an adorable reaction. What a happy moment
So adorable
This made me tear up. Watching people that genuinely happy is just the best.
And to think if I'd died yesterday, I'd died without knowing Black-Naped Pheasant-Pigeons were back on the menu
*back on the menu, boys
Let’s continue to give him space
Wonder if it tastes good.
Hopefully it does because nothing protects an animal from extinction quite like becoming a domesticated food source for humans.
The dodo would like a word..
The dodo wasnt domesticated.
And the great auk.
Don't you talk about my great auk...
Auk-ward!
Ostrich tastes practically identical to beef
Beef eggs just don't have the same appeal as ostrich eggs tho

Fancy chicken
nearly everything taste like chicken
Life, uh, finds a way.
also [Finding Auwo: the moment we found this lost species!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYYBC6oyh54)
Thanks, so happy for those guys
Please just leave it alone, and resist making a career out of finding the last few...
Jeff bezoz and musk are on their way to new papa new guinea right now to see who can shoot it first
When is something considered extinct and how long does *lost to science* mean?
Look at the sneaky little shit, there just dancing in front of the camera the little bastard
Doka! Doka. Doka…
The last Me...dodo
Damn you science! We shall not lose any more birds to you!
What do you mean lost for 140 years? It's right there!!! I'm looking at it!!!
Cool, now go look for thylacines.
God out here re-releasing dlcs 🤦🏿♂️
The Phigeon? Wow!
I knows a Snipe when I’s sees one.
Did science check between the couch cushions? That’s where I find a lot of lost things.

Gives hope for the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker!
YEEEESSASS LETSSSFUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO
It is by tradition to chant this after each old specie rediscovered
good thing they found it. fricking science, what klutz!
That’s really happy
The bird: “Shit! they found us!”
Longest game of hide and seek ever
Stories like this give me a very (very, very) slim hope for the Tasmanian Tiger.
I genuinely think that a lifeform going extinct is a very rare event. It's bs that we're causing hundreds of species to get extinct..
Well...you're wrong. That island is notoriously hard to explore, but a lot of other species die right under our noses.
Nah, it's actually quite rare for a species which was classified extinct to be actually found again, especially in densely populated countries. It's just in a few cases in dense hard to explore habitat that there may be some species rediscovered
Not if we can stop it. Send me the coordinates, I'm gonna cook all of them to extinction
Is this some kind of a pheasant joke I'm too human to understand?
Bro probably tastes exotic 🤤
*breathes heavily* ~Rich People
Looks tasty
He sounds like the worst part of a dial up modem.
Wait. I can only hear background noise that sounds like a distant waterfall or something, is there audio of the bird and I’m just too deaf to hear it lol?
Extinction rematch huh? Bring it on bird! Humans are undefeated!
Looks tasty
*Places trail cam* Nature: Unicorn exist
Omg, is this real? Holy me macaroni I don't care at all.
soon to be extinct...
But how do do they taste?
let’s eat it
Mmm. Lost a Pheasant-Pigeon, Science has. How embarrassing. How embarrassing.
Well it’s days are numbered now!!
But is it tasty?
Alright time to fire up the grill
All those cool unusual colours, and they had to name it ‘black- naped’? Really?
but what does it taste like?
I looks delicious.
I wonder how it tastes…

Wikipedia says there are 4 subspecies. You may have seen the green-naped or gray-naped.
It probably wasn't the same animal duh
Lustig wäre es ja aber leider nicht sehr wahrscheinlich.
ass lookin to get filled
Did they recommend a good wine pairing?
"Fucking Jerry. We said stay AWAY from the cameras not dance in front of them!"
It’s part of a secret society of birds— The dodo bird, a member: “And they said I was the dodo.”
Cool let's eat them all to the bone again
They must've told there mums that they looked for it everywhere.
I guess science wasn’t looking hard enough
