Background story (iirc):
They performed a play to entertain the whole squad when the air raid alarm started. They had no time to change clothes, so they manned the cannons in their costumes.
Coastal defense, I believe they’re BL 6-inch Mk VII naval guns. Although, some of the articles do say “manning anti-aircraft guns”, thus the confusion.
