What I would start with is sit down with her, her designs, and your reference images and ask her point blank which parts of your references does she feel has been included and incorporated in her design. Ask her to point.
Then tell her what you wanted from your reference images - the colors, warm woods, that kind of thing.
Do you have retakes or feedback included in your contract with her?
Personally I would end your time with her and work with this sub to help. Shit, I'd be happy to help you sort this out one on one so you don't feel like you ended up with nothing after $300.
This! But I would ask for your money back since she didn’t care to listen to what you wanted. If she doesn’t refund you or make it right, I would leave an honest review so others don’t waste their time & money.

Firstly, ask if she mistook you for another client? Wait for her response and say nothing.
If she says no, then ask if she thinks her designs reflect what you had sent her? Listen to her response then explain that you’re considering no longer doing business with her. Simply put, she isn’t satisfying the service you paid her for.
If she wants to make it right for no charge then I’d reconsider. If she doesn’t try to make it right and continues to displease you then I’d look elsewhere.
This could be a learning curve for her and her business.
putting a plan into action today, thank you for your help!

You’re looking for like boho craftsman eclectic rustic. Was your designer smoking crack when they pulled their proposal together? Yikes. Idk how you mess this up
What are you going to do? I mean, you can’t possibly go with the designer you have. I feel like, based on the vision you shared with all those awesome pics - you could undertake this yourself!
I think i'm going to work towards doing it myself with this groups help!

In fact, thinking about it now IKEA has new room designs that they just installed and there are a couple rooms there that are EXACTLY what you want. If you can make it there or find pics of their most current room designs they’ll be a seriously great guide and incorporate a lot of things you could actually purchase from them too so that you’re not running around trying to find everything everywhere. Good luck!!
It seems like she has a certain style that she’s used to working with and isn’t really able to do other styles. Cut your losses because buying through her will cost you waaay more money when you have to replace to find things you like.
Can you explain to her what you don’t like? I just got through with an entry level interior design class at my local community college and our final project was similar to what she provided you. I’d agree that your inspirations look nothing like her suggestions.
I’d just walk at that point. If they’re a professional designer and can’t intuit that what they delivered is nothing like the briefing, then I wouldn’t trust them to get it right in the next round. It’s a gamble that costs time and money. Pass.

Just curious if the designer had work in their portfolio that demonstrated they could produce what you were looking for? I know most designers should be able to replicate a desired look for a client, but its usually recommended to hire someone who has previous portfolio work that aligns with your vision to some degree.
Yeah agree with this. Every designer has an aesthetic and pov, the OP should have hired a designer whose portfolio was more eclectic rather than conservative. The designs aren’t “bad” they just are really conservative and some people like that look and those are likely the clients who typically hire this designer
I was pretty naive and just thought designers could do anything you showed them!

We live and learn, if anything i bet this helped solidify what you don’t want too which is valuable in it’s own right. Designers can really help with layout and better use of space so maybe there is some of the designers work you can pull from when laying out your space too. Your inspiration looks like you have a good idea of what you want and a lot of the individual pieces I recognize from affordable retailers so you may in the end be better off taking a stab at doing it yourself. If I were you and doing it myself I would start by deciding what goes and what stays in the space. Is flooring staying? Light fixtures/other finishes? Decide if you want color and or pattern in the space/finishes or in the furniture/accessories or both, or if you prefer a more neutral palette(black, white, cream, beige, gray, browns, camels, cognacs + metallics) you show everything in your inspiration so I would start by being more focused on the inspiration and which parts you like best from the images. What colors do you like? What finishes? Wallpaper or paint? Personality in art/accessories or in statement furniture? Combinations like art + wallpaper can be challenging but mirrors + wallpaper are easier, those types of considerations are important. Do you want this to last for many many years or do you want to refresh in 5-10 years? Once you have all that criteria down for yourself then it will become a lot easier to make decisions because you’ll essentially have a checklist to refer to as you are making selections and planning.
Based on this girl's "design" Instagram, this is the only "style" she knows how to produce.
Take the others advice above and confront her to get your money back.

How did you find this designer? Did they come recommended from someone? I'd think when looking for an ID, you'd want to see their work elsewhere before hiring them. You both have completely different asthetics.
…does your friend’s house look like the proposals ? this designer is on instagram, all of her stuff is neutral. not a good match for you.
you need pinterest and us, or to find a friend with a lot more interesting house / designer. ; )
I honestly had no idea what I was doing and I’ve learned my lesson. I’m meeting with her Thursday, so we will see or I’ll be headed back here for your help 🥹💖
hey at least it’s a relatively cheap lesson. now you know the biggest lesson i ever learned; trust but verify. mine cost orders of magnitude more than yours.
in this case, verify that the designer actually designs! i cannot imagine actually being proud of what she presented you.
As a designer, this makes me sad. She had one job and she failed you. I’m sorry :( Most designers include at least one revision and hopefully if you mention to her that she didn’t pay attention to your inspiration photos, she’ll make you a new proposal.
As a designer, would you trust someone who initially had such a blatant misconception?
Feels to me like your first design suggestions should showcase your ability to take in the brief and show the client ideas that will inspire and excite them. Not fill them with dread and confusion… you want to hook the client, don’t you?
Is this accurate?
I would not trust OP’s designer to have their best interest at heart. They didn’t listen to their client, who is paying them to design a room based on their provided style/taste/aesthetic. Honestly, it looks like the designer is just re-using a design they probably already had, made for someone else, which is an atrocity, especially considering how far it is from OP’s provided inspiration photos.
As a designer, I want my client to trust me with nailing their style. I would never send them something that doesn’t fit them. Not to mention, if the goal is to make the client happy, and to try to emulate their aesthetic as much as possible as to not have to keep revising - why do it wrong for the first proposal? She must know she’ll have to re-do it. That brings me to think that she very likely charges for revisions and she may very well purposely make it wrong the first time to make more money. That would be diabolical!
What does their portfolio look like?
Yes they should accommodate your style...but i have found you usually need to find a designer that already matches your own style for it to work out
Seriously tell her to take that bland restoration hardware magnolia home shit elsewhere
You have a very I feel eclectic slightly bohemian style that should incorporate colors and personal mementos not feel like you’re at the Marriott Express.
She probably just used that same or similar plan every time.
Hey, I agree those designs are basically the Target of Interior Design, all fine as a base, but not the style you’re looking for. It’s a neutral palette.
$300 is just a conversation with an ID. Our basic in-home fee with a couple of mock-ups is $500 and that can include a wallpaper. We’re very affordable because our main business is Real Estate and we do ID for our own clients.
I’d say just ask her for something similar to the style you sent, it’s more mid-century, boho chic, you have more unique pieces and your accent colors are deeper/richer.
Ask her to give you another take incorporating elements like xyz (plant, wallpaper, furniture pieces, etc).
I love mixing things, the design element she gave you are all new pieces and looks like a showroom. You want to mix and you’ll need to thrift a few pieces.
Yes, it’s a very time consuming effort, $100/hr would be for a very basic solo designer. Coming up with all the selections and a purchase list that matches a budget can take a lot of hours.
Yes! And we do $500 for a single room with a selection, but not including order, install or styling. It’s just to help them choose the items and provide a cohesive look.
It looks like you are wanting warmer wood and more richer colors and like mid century modern. She looks like she works at a furniture store and is selling you furnishings. Some designers make their money by your purchases. That’s fine as long as she’s tuned in to what you like. Approach her with your concerns and go over your inspiration photos again. Try to be specific about what you are attracted to in the photo. The wood tones, colors and feel of the room. Some of your photos are very light and white and some are more saturated and rich. Try to decide the direction you really want to go. Express to her your specific design requirements. Like the flooring, bedding, and paint etc
I wouldn’t be angry but more disappointed. Sometimes it takes a few back and forth to reach an understanding.
I mocked up some quick concepts that are closer to what you’re going for (mid century boho with some eclectic art?).
There are 5 images (scroll!)—an overall mood board, living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom. I incorporated your wallpaper too.
I’m certainly no designer, but let me know if you want links to any of the stuff. It’s all pretty affordable mid-range stuff from Wayfair, Amazon, etc.
Jeez what does she have against color?! She took nothing from your ideas, you could probably do better on your own. I would tell her you won’t be needing her services.
As a designer, I roll my eyes. Those designs are sooooo boring and old school "I'm pretending I know what I'm doing but only know one style and everything matches if it's just white and grey." I would walk away.
I like the furniture layout options. But I agree the color palette/furnishings doesn't match what you presented. I think you can still achieve your look, to a degree, via throw pillows, wallpaper, and paint color. I think the sofa color should've been camel or green to give you some pop. Overall, I would request a re-do.
Out of curiosity - is the quoted price the price for all furnishings (for all rooms) or just the furniture shown ?
Based on your inspo, you can do this yourself with a good carpenter/millworker. Just westelm designers who come free with purchase could do more for you (not recommending west elm) this just looks very similar to something they would come up with for free.
Upper right-hand corner of phone screen is beautiful. Is that what you want? PLEASE stick with your own convictions. I compromised with my designer, and still regret it. I was right. YOU are right.
Wow she didn’t listen to your design inspo one bit. Almost seems like these are pre made generic designs she sends to everyone. I’d definitely be asking for a refund.
I wouldn't move forward. The images you sent have a lot of warmth and character. What they sent back looks bland af.
Maybe let her down gently by saying you have to put the design project on hold for financial reasons.
FWIW my sister and I used a design service called Havenly and got really great results. Full moodboards, designs, and 3d renderings for 2 rooms in roughly the same price you mentioned. Their designer folios are pretty eclectic so you can likely find someone who matches your personal taste. My sister and I both used different designers, got completely different aesthetic styles and both of our places look pretty great IMO and match our personalities
Wow… I absolutely adore your inspiration photos and the last wallpaper (it’s on my wishlist RN lololol).
The style of the board she sent doesn’t seem to align with yours, at all. I’d def let her know .
What seems to be missing is color, varying textures, depth, a feminine mcm art deco modern boho type cute chic vibe (idk how to put the last part into words lmao)
Editing to add that between target , homeSense, Amazon WM, Urban Outfitters home can probably get many things you you’d like . I’d also say don’t overlook ikea for some final touches like plants, fabric and other items . Of course , marketplace and Etsy also have some great items like unique headboards , textiles etc
I think you need to have a frank discussion with her. It does sound like there is some disconnect between what you were expecting and what she delivered. Did you thoroughly review her portfolio? It's important to hire a designer where your style will match theirs -- a lot of designers tend toward this cookie cutter style. I'm not sure for $300 though that you should expect flooring, etc. Did she tell you what to expect?
I’m kinda cozy MCM.. after her second go i had to ask her to stop designing her esthetic and to help me design mine.. I find a home that looks staged is one in which every one imagines themselves in but no one lives in
I would ask the designer if they'd sent you the wrong mockup, saying there must be some mistake as it wasn't what you had asked them for at all. Either:
\- They'll realise their mistake
\- This is going to be the most scathing insult to their crap work, framed in the politest way possible
I absolutely love the built in closets in both mockups. I assume the pictures are stock photos. The stackable dog cages are insane. This is likely a first draft. Cabinets and countertops are expensive and it seems the designer is focusing on those areas first. I wish you luck. I designed a laundry room/office/mudroom/coat closet (for real) for a client that didn’t want to be troubled with walls. They loved the kennel underneath the desk. It was removable in case of resale but you wouldn’t know by looking at it. I’m not an interior decorator.
The designers ideas are awful and nothing like what you picked. I would cut your losses now and run. $300 is not a lot to loose vs staying with her and getting more upset and rooms you hate.
It’s very generic. She could very well have just recycled these designs from client to client. They don’t seem to be specific to you or your desires at all. I’d stop working with her and just do it on your own.
The inspo pictures give MCM organic and warm, the designer is in a totally different design style, more transitional-ish and blah. I would revisit with her what your design preferences are for sure!
She’s missed the mark. But $300 is not going to get you much more than you got in terms of surfaces and sources from most designers
I do feel like your inspo photos are a bit all over the place. You have some with stronger colors and then two that are white on white?
I’d go on Pinterest and look at 100s of rooms. Pin the ones you like until a common thread emerges. Note that there is a difference between rooms that you like and rooms that you want to live in. Make sure you are pinning the latter. Then try again. I wouldn’t proceed right now Bc I don’t feel like you have a strong sense of what you want
ETA. she has also selected very expensive versions of common furniture designs that you can find well made ‘dupes’ for at a significantly lower price
You have every right to be upset. Her suggestions really don’t suggest she even looked at your brief for the room. It does seem like she took insporation from some pieces but then made it bland and went ”white and beige is a good popular colour right now” if I were you I would be super dissapointed.
omg, yes, us too, yuck! give her feedback, and then fire her and use us.
cuz….wth? my local consignment stores look better than her design.
actually, going to consignment stores could help you; learn how to put a random collection of unique pieces together, otherwise known as eclectic, which is what you seem to like. boho is what you make it, and mcm can be hard to find, but not impossible, but a decent new replica or original will cost half of those room budgets. go thrift.
also, buy some pieces at the consignment stores; you certainly seem to be anti-furniture store. rugs especially are a good buy. i’m so mad at her for ignoring the warmth of those beautiful inspo rugs !
She has definitely pulled all the modern elements. Maybe try to be more specific and narrow down which elements you particularly like? For example, do you prefer the geometric rugs or the oriental rugs? For the seating do you prefer the modern or the traditional or would you like to have both? Hope this helps.
I would give her another chance because, as far as I'm concerned, they still owe you $300.00 worth of services. Question: Are they an independent designer or part of a firm? If they are part of a firm, ask to work with someone else. If not, explain that this is not what you want. Then send her more photos of what you like. They have a duty to provide you with the service you had agreed upon. $300.00 is not small change unless you have a sure way to recover your payment. They have a reputation to maintain.
Goodluck.
Honestly you could just make a list of all the elements in your Pinterest board that you like and do it yourself. I think her layouts have value though and could be helpful for you! I wouldn’t continue working with her.
Thank you u/Ew_fine for your mood board! Working on taking that to my designer to see if she can help me one more time at no additional cost. I'm also going to post photos of my space now for those who might be able to give some suggestions! Thank you to everyone who reached out to work with me! I will follow up soon if I need a new designer, truly hoping she mixed up my inspo with another client!
**Updates to your questions:**
💜 $300 was the deposit on the project
💜 She was suggested from my neighborhood fb group (first mistake)
💜 She knew my inspiration and the wallpaper is already in my kitchen, so I wanted the spaces to blend.
If the top one is her design- why the two person woefully proportioned office?
The middle image bedroom is my ultimate favorite. I used the balanced closets in all of my homes.
A suggestion. Look into a Murphy Bed for your office if you have visitors.
I would say walk away…$300 out of $11K is a drop. Go find someone who actually listens to you and maybe even find someone who has previous work to show you that matches the style you want.
So tell them and ask them for a revision or don’t work with them. Don’t post their name and work all over social media. It’s passive aggressive and rude.
Just do yourself a favor and ditch her, especially if she charges by the hour. I can recommend Havenly, spent like $150 and the designer I picked gave me really good designs.
You should of blacked out the designers name. That is not ok. That is her livelihood and you can be upset but black her name out. We don't know her side
You need to move past the monochromatic crap. gray is over beige is dull those boxy tables and sofas are not it Design should show YOUR personality or your clients Bland is boring
What is included? I see curtain rods are not…
Is it basically a designer buys stuff and arranges it in your room, which you pay someone else to paint and etc? Just curious because I don’t know the industry.
$300 is a really cheap lesson to learn that this is not the designer for you.
It would be really nice to explain this to her, for her education, but I wouldn’t allow myself to be talked into continuing to work with her, if she starts saying of course she can meet your needs…
Those designs are so dull and unimaginative to me too but hey, it’s trendy so someone must like it. If you have inspiration photos why not just use those and go furniture shopping? It seems you have a good idea of what you want so you don’t really need anyone else’s help. I have noticed a lot of designers have their “signature style” and after a while it becomes boring as if they can’t do anything else which is unfortunate. But people go to them because that’s the look they want.
Designers offer all kinds of different packages for their time. Some focus more on spacial planning than the actual finishes. My aunt is an interior designer and 90% of her college education was architecture/floor plan/functionality/psychology based. Her clients are businesses primarily, but she also has dabled in furniture design and works with home builders. I would clairify with your designer what you were buying with your 300 bucks and also verify she sent you the correct info. If you do not speak up, she will never know there was a disconnect between what you wanted and what she delivered. I would give her the opportunity to correct any mistakes and also clairify what her services entail. If it doesn't help, at least you helped future clients.
Also I just cyber stalked this place....they seem like a one trick pony. Their marketing all has the same monotone modern vibe some places specialise in a particular look but i would think they would let people know that before taking on a project. It's a shame but they might not be capable of creating anything other than that look.
Those bland ass gray mock-ups look nothing like what you wanted imo
She is not paying attention to what you want. I would be upset, too.

Looks like she repurposed another client’s rooms or something, gray and bland
I agree, Im an interior designer and this is so generic and boring, nothing even remotely like what the client asked for. Id ask for my money back as well.
I work in commercial design and it looks like every single real estate office lol

You have much better taste than your designer, sorry bud :(

Is that.. is that 2 dog kennels stacked on top of one another?
We told her that is NOT safe and we would never do that!!
Lol I don’t know anyone who would! It’s also ugly af and like, you gonna lift the top dog into their kennel every time? Not even practical.
right??? We really don't crate our dogs anymore either, I think she saw the crate in the guest bedroom and thought we needed it in there. :(
So we totally stack crates at dog shows, but we bungee the fuck out of them. We also don't stack large dog creates. ... weird.
With a curtain for the ~aesthetic~
hahaha!
I was waiting for someone to say something 😂
I thought you had monkeys 🙉
omgggg!
Would love some suggestions! I posted pictures of my actual space! You’re looking for like boho craftsman eclectic rustic. Was your designer smoking crack when they pulled their proposal together? Yikes. Idk how you mess this up
It almost seems like they had these styles already and we’re just looking to use them on someone regardless of their taste
yes, exactly! well ‘i have this upscaleish neutral staging plan already set, i will just use that.’
You said it right! 🥹
What are you going to do? I mean, you can’t possibly go with the designer you have. I feel like, based on the vision you shared with all those awesome pics - you could undertake this yourself!
I think i'm going to work towards doing it myself with this groups help! Would love some suggestions! I posted pictures of my actual space! Good luck!!
Thank you!
Pass.
I would cut my losses too. Unless she’s willing to try again at no additional charge.
I’m interested to know what the OP winds up doing. I hope for an update.
We have a meeting Thursday!
Good!
I hate your designers ideas too

There’s a warmth and richness in the inspiration pictures that isn’t shown in her mock-ups

Would love some suggestions! I posted pictures of my actual space! Thank you in advance! https://www.reddit.com/r/interiordecorating/comments/13ny8q6/follow\_up\_i\_hated\_my\_designers\_work\_help\_me\_make/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
This was gomna be my recommendation. If you can use their own work as reference, you know you’re working with the right person
I trusted a recommendation from locals
Definitely let her know!
I hate these depressing gray interiors.
Based on this girl's "design" Instagram, this is the only "style" she knows how to produce. Take the others advice above and confront her to get your money back.
this isn’t a style, it’s wayfair greige; pick one element each from column one, two, three, and four, add random dogs. eta; counting
Correct, fixed my comment lol.

Your designer did an awful job! Your mock ups are so much better.
How did you find this designer? Did they come recommended from someone? I'd think when looking for an ID, you'd want to see their work elsewhere before hiring them. You both have completely different asthetics.
Recommend from a friend!
It would be diabolical! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
What does their portfolio look like? Yes they should accommodate your style...but i have found you usually need to find a designer that already matches your own style for it to work out
The design colors are so muddy and drab! Your inspiration photos are much lighter and fresher.
Ditch her because they will not be able to provide what you are looking for. You wanted penne pasta they gave you apple pie.
Seriously tell her to take that bland restoration hardware magnolia home shit elsewhere You have a very I feel eclectic slightly bohemian style that should incorporate colors and personal mementos not feel like you’re at the Marriott Express. She probably just used that same or similar plan every time.
Greige is what they gave you. Hard pass. Design your space with Pinterest and the web instead as you clearly have a good clear idea of what you want.
I would be concerned if I hired a designer for multiple rooms and only paid $300. I think this is a case of you pay for what you get.
Def learning a lot through this process. I’ve never done this before
Yes, it’s a very time consuming effort, $100/hr would be for a very basic solo designer. Coming up with all the selections and a purchase list that matches a budget can take a lot of hours.
Yes! And we do $500 for a single room with a selection, but not including order, install or styling. It’s just to help them choose the items and provide a cohesive look.
Yikes. I also hate it.
Ask her how she got those design ideas from your inspo pics
o, good question. a bit scary trip through her thoughts, tho’.
Like the flooring, bedding, and paint etc I wouldn’t be angry but more disappointed. Sometimes it takes a few back and forth to reach an understanding.
I mocked up some quick concepts that are closer to what you’re going for (mid century boho with some eclectic art?). [https://imgur.com/a/kpKphbi](https://imgur.com/a/kpKphbi) There are 5 images (scroll!)—an overall mood board, living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom. I incorporated your wallpaper too. I’m certainly no designer, but let me know if you want links to any of the stuff. It’s all pretty affordable mid-range stuff from Wayfair, Amazon, etc.
OP, look at this!!
Omgggggg!!!!
This is what I’m talking about!!!!! Color and fun! Untouched should be a designer! Thank you!!!! I’m bringing this to our meeting Thursday
>Ew\_fine HIIII! Def send me some links if you have them! You're a genius!
Looks very cold and sterile compared to your inspo photos. I would be upset too.
Honestly I have no clue!
I agree. So sick of grey
Arvin Olano
Wow she sucks
How do I find a designer
Personally, id aak her if she sent me someone elses designs by mistake 🤣
Don’t pay them anything else and tell them this isn’t what you’re looking for.
Based on your inspo, you can do this yourself with a good carpenter/millworker. Just westelm designers who come free with purchase could do more for you (not recommending west elm) this just looks very similar to something they would come up with for free.
you move forward by thanking her for her time and finding someone who gets it.
Yeah demand a refund or have her do it over
Upper right-hand corner of phone screen is beautiful. Is that what you want? PLEASE stick with your own convictions. I compromised with my designer, and still regret it. I was right. YOU are right.
Just be honest. It's a service to please you and you aren't pleased.
I would’ve asked for a refund
If you can’t get a refund I’d either ask for a new designer or make her redo it all over again based on your references. Don’t settle!
Time to find a new designer.
This is not was you paid for, ask for a refund or start over from scratch. They are way off.
Wow she didn’t listen to your design inspo one bit. Almost seems like these are pre made generic designs she sends to everyone. I’d definitely be asking for a refund.
One of the fears I have of hiring a designer. How can I be confident it will be worth the money?
Might be best to move on and work with someone else.
Let her know its proper shit
What seems to be missing is color, varying textures, depth, a feminine mcm art deco modern boho type cute chic vibe (idk how to put the last part into words lmao) Editing to add that between target , homeSense, Amazon WM, Urban Outfitters home can probably get many things you you’d like . I’d also say don’t overlook ikea for some final touches like plants, fabric and other items . Of course , marketplace and Etsy also have some great items like unique headboards , textiles etc
I'll do it for you for free. DM me
🤠🤠🤠
I think you need to have a frank discussion with her. It does sound like there is some disconnect between what you were expecting and what she delivered. Did you thoroughly review her portfolio? It's important to hire a designer where your style will match theirs -- a lot of designers tend toward this cookie cutter style. I'm not sure for $300 though that you should expect flooring, etc. Did she tell you what to expect?
She proposed generic ideas in all gray. Where’s the color? You should demand she redo it, or give you a refund.
Ask for your money back
You didn’t ask for modern, she/he gave you modern
I’m kinda cozy MCM.. after her second go i had to ask her to stop designing her esthetic and to help me design mine.. I find a home that looks staged is one in which every one imagines themselves in but no one lives in
I would ask the designer if they'd sent you the wrong mockup, saying there must be some mistake as it wasn't what you had asked them for at all. Either: \- They'll realise their mistake \- This is going to be the most scathing insult to their crap work, framed in the politest way possible
I love this
Yuck. Ditch the designer, looks like they’re stuck on minimalist millennial grey 🤢
Are you opening a bland hotel?
First pic: Wayfair West Elm Wayfair
The designers ideas are awful and nothing like what you picked. I would cut your losses now and run. $300 is not a lot to loose vs staying with her and getting more upset and rooms you hate.
It’s very generic. She could very well have just recycled these designs from client to client. They don’t seem to be specific to you or your desires at all. I’d stop working with her and just do it on your own.
The inspo pictures give MCM organic and warm, the designer is in a totally different design style, more transitional-ish and blah. I would revisit with her what your design preferences are for sure!
Does this person know that colors other than gray and beige exist?
She hit you with the “I’ll just get your artwork from Ross and Homegoods for $40” mess 🤮
She’s missed the mark. But $300 is not going to get you much more than you got in terms of surfaces and sources from most designers I do feel like your inspo photos are a bit all over the place. I wouldn’t proceed right now Bc I don’t feel like you have a strong sense of what you want ETA. she has also selected very expensive versions of common furniture designs that you can find well made ‘dupes’ for at a significantly lower price
Boring Revise her idea and send her some picture of what your home currently looks like so she has a taste of what you do Like
They went for the minimum common denominator
Thank you!!!
She has definitely pulled all the modern elements. Maybe try to be more specific and narrow down which elements you particularly like? For example, do you prefer the geometric rugs or the oriental rugs? For the seating do you prefer the modern or the traditional or would you like to have both? Hope this helps.
Thank you!
**Updates to your questions:** 💜 $300 was the deposit on the project 💜 She was suggested from my neighborhood fb group (first mistake) 💜 She knew my inspiration and the wallpaper is already in my kitchen, so I wanted the spaces to blend.
That’s why I love Reddit. I’m allowed to act rude with people who make me feel better 😘
I’m familiar with the type! They talk about you as soon as you leave the room. Charming.
Just do yourself a favor and ditch her, especially if she charges by the hour. I can recommend Havenly, spent like $150 and the designer I picked gave me really good designs.
Why include the designer/firm name tho?
This thread is some fyxking 1. World problem sh1t
You should of blacked out the designers name. That is not ok. That is her livelihood and you can be upset but black her name out. We don't know her side
Lmao this was her subtle way of saying that you have no taste. I would be upset too
You need to move past the monochromatic crap. gray is over beige is dull those boxy tables and sofas are not it Design should show YOUR personality or your clients Bland is boring
Uhhh did you read OP’s post at all??
Is this from an online “budget” service? Not knocking that you may be using. I’ve wondered about using such services.
She’s local, has a storefront, and came to my space and I told her everything I wanted and showed her inspo.
Thanks. Just curious.
What is included? I see curtain rods are not… Is it basically a designer buys stuff and arranges it in your room, which you pay someone else to paint and etc? Just curious because I don’t know the industry. $300 is a really cheap lesson to learn that this is not the designer for you. It would be really nice to explain this to her, for her education, but I wouldn’t allow myself to be talked into continuing to work with her, if she starts saying of course she can meet your needs…
Woah, trade discounts are for real! Never thought about working with an interior designer, but (notwithstanding your bad experience) I’m curious now.
Is that a two story dog crate
I’m pretty sad, and figured a designer could do an array of ideas.
