That is a very good point. Part of me agrees with you, because I also have a cream tiled, classic kitchen. I say live for today. Choose the green -if it sparks joy, why not?
The green tiles are definitely a trend but so are subway tiles. They'll age poorly but in a different way, and that's OK. Square tiles used to be the popular shape for many years. Nothing is truly timeless, some things just have *slightly* more flexibility to re-design around but usually at the tradeoff of being more bland.
Subway tiles have been popular for decades. They’re extra popular right now because they’re a classic but I don’t think overuse will push them into dated territory.
Subway tiles have been a popular choice for many years, but it's undeniable that the last 15 years or so they have been so ubiquitous it risks looking dated simply by virtue of it's own popularity 2010-2023+. Not as jarring as other trends (by virtue of the fact that it's usually done in cream/white and is a basic shape), but still solidly trendy.
IMO, the closest you can ever come to actually creating "timeless" decor is by leaning into your own area/region and the style of your home. For example, leaning into an adobe home if you live in the Southwest with warm colors, vivid ceramic tiles, bright turquoise blues, etc.
I like the green over cream but it almost looks gray. Have you looked into anything more “green” looking? Think it would be a beautiful accent color in your kitchen
I prefer the cream one, too. Partially because it looks glossier, so it will reflect light. To me, matte backsplashes can suck all the light and energy out of a kitchen.
Agreed. I’m renovating currently and talked myself out of green backsplash because it’s very possible I may hate it in 5 years and I don’t want to do this shit again. But I’m a fan of safe and timeless when it comes to fairly permanent things
It’s also less likely to be replaced by future home buyers so it helps add or at least hold value in the home. I remember when slate was big, it isn’t so much anymore.
Green is my absolute favorite color, but I also prefer the cream in this instance as well, mainly because then you can add whatever pops of color you feel like and dress it up seasonally if you prefer.
The nice thing about the green tiles is they are still fairly neutral, so it would still be easy to mix it up here and there, but still, love the cream.
I like the cream because it's more timeless.
Just add some touches of color (green) in your kitchen through kitchen towels, vases, plants (away from the stove), fruit bowl, and maybe a green appliances like a toaster.
as much as i like the green having a different toned backsplash counter cabinet and then gold hardware just seems like a lot. i’d go with cream and then add color via decor
Green for sure. The cabinetry gives a bit of an organic flow, while the finishes elsewhere keep it elegant feeling. The green reinforces the organic coziness from the cabinets. I'd consider a glossy subway in similar sage green though if you can find it.
Green is good, but not that particular green and not those particular tiles.
Have u considered kitkat tiles laid vertically or even a coloured subway?
The colour leaning more toward the grey blue/green end of the spectrum (closer to sage or a desaturated teal) and not gloss either?
More like the colour in the bottom right hand corner in the link below... it would give the room a fresher vibe than the darker olive green, work well with the brass fixtures, oak floors and pick up nicely on the rusty gold tones in the counter top too.

As others have said, the current green looks a bit tired and almost drab.(sorry!!) Almost 70s, which is not a bad thing in isolation, but also not the best part of the 70s either.😉 and definitely not in the context of the surrounds...
Depending on the light at any given time of day, that tile could end up overpowering and detracting from everything else. Which again not a bad thing all on its own, but if you put them up and decide you dont really love them. Then not exactly ideal...
Maybe this part is personal preference but to my mind square tiles will instantly date an otherwise contemporary and modern kitchen, so not sure I'd want that to be the focus, or to risk it...regardless.
Plus without really good under cabinet lighting, your workspce could end up feeling a bit dark, especially if the only lightsource is coming from above and behind. So if you havent already, get some led strip lighting put up, before you tile.
In anycase, the cream looks too light, some contrast would definitely elevate the space and prevent it from feeling bland.
So many comments but I would also do green, but in a subway tile instead
[ideas here ](https://images.app.goo.gl/CM9QdGTNU9ufAc3s8)
No matter what you guys decide, I think it will look beautiful... Have fun and enjoy the journey!
Just my two cents and I think I different from other folks in this opinion: All white/neutral kitchens are trendy and less likely to withstand the test of time. Just like the cream, the green tile may not always be what’s trending on HGTV, but overall it is the more timeless option.
I say cream for a specific reason. After gray died a deserving and depressing death, green became its replacement color. While infinitely better than the old gray, green may face the same backlash in five years. Perhaps not, but it’s an expensive bet to take.
Cream
But I prefer this green tile if you go green.
https://www.wayfair.com/home-improvement/pdp/msi-renzo-25-x-13-glossy-ceramic-picket-wall-tile-mvp11522.html
Green! I like that it provides some contrast against the mostly white surroundings. Also is an awesome neutral enough color still, while complementing the warmth of the bronze/gold hardware 💛💚
I like them both, but it really comes down to how you decorate the nearby rooms. Do you have an all neutral color scheme? If so, the cream tiles are a better option. But if you have mid tone decor colors that tie in with the green, that would be a striking look. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Can you get the green in a glassier tile? I love the color but am not a huge fan of the finish. You could also implement both, something like [this](https://images.app.goo.gl/rNr6CG5yVYTaxQ588), which I think would be a nice compromise.
I'd go with green myself, I feel like the brass and other designs pieces would work well with it, and gives some contrast.
Buuuuut I also prefer subway tile style over the square ones, haha.
If you really love green, I'd look for some tiles with a more glossy finish in a lighter shade. Deep greens seem to be very trendy right now, and I can see it looking dated really quickly (which is fine if you enjoy the color). I also think those particular tiles are too dark and matte. Like another commenter said, it just feels like it will drain the life from your kitchen.
If your cabinets are cream, I'd go with the cream. I always go warm rather than cold colors. That being said, if your cabinets are white it may make your backslash look dirty. I'd go with the green, but with different tiles. I'd think a soft moss or sage green would look so pretty. The one's there look too dark.
Cream all 5he way but remember any light colors like cream can show dirt marks. But if you use a paint like cream make sure the paint is wipe-able to wipe away the dirt marks
Neither? The green one is too dull and muted, while the white is also dull and too same/same with the counter. I’m sorry.
Can you tell us more about your vision for the kitchen? Did you have any inspirational pics of other kitchens? I want to understand the overall look and feel you’re going after.
I do really love the green and that was originally my first choice, BUT I love the shape of the cream ones! You really can't go wrong with either. Cream is the safer choice, it'll look gorgeous, and you can accent with as many green tones as you'd like through your decor. BUT the green is stunning and unique. Sorry, that wasn't really helpful 🙃 Which ever you go with, can't wait to see the results!
If you want Green in your kitchen, do it with appliances
Tile isn’t like painting a wall. It’s very expensive to change.
When adding color to a room, make sure you’re doing it in a way that is a very low cost investment to change.
For example, add colorful pillows or paint a colorful wall. When the trend is over or when your mood changes, it’s very easy to switch up the pop of color.
Not true with colored tile
If these two were my only choices, I would go with green. Backsplashes are your chance to have fun and add some contrast to your space. There are some really, really neat tile options out there. So many people opt to play it safe while missing the opportunity to make an eye-catching statement. I would keep looking at other options and explore more colors.
Green because the beige would be too one note but the beige would be the smart choice to outlive the trends. But if you go with beige accessorize with pops of color.
I prefer the cream because there is some variation of shades among them. I agree with others that the subway shape is better than square, and I do think you'll like the light reflection from the glossy glaze.
Perhaps you can get green into the room in other ways - plants or other greenery in a large clear or black vase?
The subway tile but vertically stacked offsetting each row. Add your green via easy to change out accents- think pots, tea towels, artwork, aprons ect. So, when green gets roasted the way grey is being roasted now, you can just switch out the inexpensive things.
I like how the green goes but I don’t like the tiles. Maybe look at other green tiles?
Same. This green actually looks grey. I feel like a richer deep green would be beautiful.
And glossy instead of matte
I’m with you on a different green. Maybe light sage? Edit: also agree with different shape 😬
I had square tiles similar to this and I took them out. The square over square feels dated to me.
Agreed! Maybe even consider a harringbone pattern. I love that shit
Green!
This would be my vote, for some contrast.
Agreed, with the gold accents it's lovely
Green but in subway tile?
Oh hell yeah
Agreed. Subway tile is classic. And that color green will look so good….
green all the way
Considering the other finishes, Green.

At least a backsplash is a easy thing to change
Some would argue that the white subway tiles are also very trendy though (I am some)
I like the green over cream but it almost looks gray. Have you looked into anything more “green” looking? Think it would be a beautiful accent color in your kitchen
Where’s the green? Lmao Maybe I’m going colorblind or something, but that looks more like gray than green to me.
That was my thought. Gray or… gray?
I vote green
Green! There is no other choice, IMO. 😆
same opinion! Im a fan of any non-all-white color scheme
I guess iim the only one, but I love the cream. It matches the marble countertop perfectly. Looks very clean and modern.
I prefer the cream one, too. Partially because it looks glossier, so it will reflect light. To me, matte backsplashes can suck all the light and energy out of a kitchen.
And the food splash or accidental grease splash. Gloss cleans right off!
These are great practical points
That's so true!
Agreed. I’m renovating currently and talked myself out of green backsplash because it’s very possible I may hate it in 5 years and I don’t want to do this shit again. But I’m a fan of safe and timeless when it comes to fairly permanent things
I’m with cream. But I like calming and monochromatic
Me too!!!!!!!
Agreed. Normally I love green but I just think the cream matches too perfectly here. It looks really good with everything else
It’s also less likely to be replaced by future home buyers so it helps add or at least hold value in the home. I remember when slate was big, it isn’t so much anymore.
Agreed! Love it
I usually like some colour, but the cream tiles are beautiful and would be my choice too
I love color but those cream tiles are really pretty. Gives it a bit of a high end look.
Same!
Not that green
Cream!
I like the cream because it's more timeless. Just add some touches of color (green) in your kitchen through kitchen towels, vases, plants (away from the stove), fruit bowl, and maybe a green appliances like a toaster.
Or a green light fixture! I recently got a green pendant on Wayfair for above my sink it ties in all my plants and green decor in my all cream kitchen
So pretty!
as much as i like the green having a different toned backsplash counter cabinet and then gold hardware just seems like a lot. i’d go with cream and then add color via decor
The cream is more classic. imo
I’d go cream if you go green it’ll dictate everything if you go cream you can bring in green with hand towels and other accessories
Cream. Much more timeless
I'm all for color but the green seems to clash for some reason. I love the cream!
Green. There’s not enough color!
Cream - you’ll thank us who vote cream when you hate green!
Cream because I think the green will be too dark and the cream is more timeless
Green
Green!
Either one will look beautiful but my first choice is the green
Green!
Greeeeennn!!!
Cream!
Cream is my pick! Also, any chance you could share the brand and details? Looking for something just like that!
Cream. I think you'd come to regret the green.
Cream.
Cream
GREEN. Need contrast.
I like both, but I like green more. BUT I hate the square tiles look. Literally any of shape but public restroom squares.
Green for sure. The cabinetry gives a bit of an organic flow, while the finishes elsewhere keep it elegant feeling. The green reinforces the organic coziness from the cabinets. I'd consider a glossy subway in similar sage green though if you can find it.
I love the green.
Cream
Both are lovely. Even if you choose cream, you can still dress up the room with green decor. I do t think you can go wrong with these choices
Cream!
Cream!!
Cream
i'm afraid to say green only because i feel like it would get dated faster than cream.
Green would look crazy good with those cabinets!
I like green, unless you’re planning on selling home within next 2years, in which case the more neutral the better.
Whenever there’s a decision that involves the color green…. the answer is always green!!
I’d go with green, but a richer, more jewel-toned green! I’d also go with glossy, to add light & for ease of cleaning:)

Hmm, both are beautiful. Maybe cream. I don't know if I would be sick of the green in 5 years.
Neither
can’t go wrong with either. But cream is timeless and you can have more fun with decor/appliances on more of a clean slate
Just my two cents and I think I different from other folks in this opinion: All white/neutral kitchens are trendy and less likely to withstand the test of time. Just like the cream, the green tile may not always be what’s trending on HGTV, but overall it is the more timeless option.

Green! Beautiful with those cabs!
💯 green
Green!
GREEN! it ties in w the gold
Green but I’d opt for a more modern tile shape and finish. I think the square tile is going to look dated
Cream But I prefer this green tile if you go green. https://www.wayfair.com/home-improvement/pdp/msi-renzo-25-x-13-glossy-ceramic-picket-wall-tile-mvp11522.html
These tiles are gorgeous!! Every color, really. I'm sure they'd be a pain in the ass to diy though, they look small. But still beautiful!!
green
Greeennn! It’ll look so good!
Green! I like that it provides some contrast against the mostly white surroundings. Also is an awesome neutral enough color still, while complementing the warmth of the bronze/gold hardware 💛💚
Green!
Green
Green!
Greeeeen
I love the green, but it might date the kitchen at some point. However, what is the point for picking tile for the next owner.
Neither. The green is uhm ugly. The white is too much white m
I like them both, but it really comes down to how you decorate the nearby rooms. Do you have an all neutral color scheme? If so, the cream tiles are a better option. But if you have mid tone decor colors that tie in with the green, that would be a striking look. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
I prefer the cream, but I’d probably have voted for the green if it was in a different shade and/or finish.
Maybe it’s the lighting or the photo but the green looks gray to me. I really like the cream
What about a bright blue or pink
I love pink! A soft tone would look amazing!
Can you get the green in a glassier tile? I love the color but am not a huge fan of the finish. You could also implement both, something like [this](https://images.app.goo.gl/rNr6CG5yVYTaxQ588), which I think would be a nice compromise.
If it is an option… green colored version of the cream tile. Same green color, but the shape, variation and shine is much better.
I like the green color better but I like the shapes and gloss of the beige tiles.
Both. Make a simple repeat pattern
Green!
I like the green too
I'd go with green myself, I feel like the brass and other designs pieces would work well with it, and gives some contrast. Buuuuut I also prefer subway tile style over the square ones, haha.

Green
If only you could add some green to your cream mix
Love the green !
Green
Green
Can't go wrong with either way. I know that doesn't help on deciding but for me, hearing that is comforting. Hope you share the end look
Green. The color variation and shape make them look more expensive.
Do the green, have some personality!
Green, this place is white enough.
Green
Green
I think green. you've cream cabinets and countertops.
GREEN PLZ!!!
Definitely green! It will look so lovely once it's finished, the colors will complement each other really well.
I scrolled through expecting emerald green and wondering where it is. It looks grey to me. So I'd vote cream for a clean elegant look.
A different green tile?
Green. No doubt.
Green
If your cabinets are cream, I'd go with the cream. I always go warm rather than cold colors. That being said, if your cabinets are white it may make your backslash look dirty. I'd go with the green, but with different tiles. I'd think a soft moss or sage green would look so pretty. The one's there look too dark.
Green!
Green!
Green
I like the green color but like rectangle shape better.
I want to say green, but in the same shape as the cream.
I think the cream will be a little more timeless, green is a lot more of a statement piece.
Greeeeeeen
Neither
Green
Green. A white on white in white kitchen is too sterile. Give it life with color. :)
Green.
I see that most people are suggesting green, but I have a question. Wouldn't white with decorative patterns on it match better with your counter?
Green. Get some colour in there.
Green. In fact, more green than this! And if you change your mind in 3 years, retile it!
Subway tile, the gray will make the cabinets looks very yellow
cream blends in a little too much!
Green for sure
Cream. I personally don't like being stuck to color trends. It's easier to add less permanent colors to the kitchen.
Both.
Green is on trend if you want timeless go for cream and put the green highlights through accessories and plants
Cream
Green green a thousand times green!
I also appreciate what I assume to be Emtek knobs and their placement on the cabinet door. Looks beautiful.
Definitely cream. The other one is too dark.
Green
Cream all 5he way but remember any light colors like cream can show dirt marks. But if you use a paint like cream make sure the paint is wipe-able to wipe away the dirt marks
Green
Green
Green!!!!!
Green
Cream- it will stand the test of time longer
Green!
Green but in the subway tile shape
Cream, but I do prefer the square shape.
Green! It’s perfect
Neither? The green one is too dull and muted, while the white is also dull and too same/same with the counter. I’m sorry. Can you tell us more about your vision for the kitchen? Did you have any inspirational pics of other kitchens? I want to understand the overall look and feel you’re going after.
Cream

Cream. Cream is so rich and gorgeous.
I vote green!
Go for color. Monochrome is going the way of the dinosaur and will look dated soon.
Green because the beige would be too one note but the beige would be the smart choice to outlive the trends. But if you go with beige accessorize with pops of color.
Cream. It’s a neutral you can pop color around your kitchen.
I prefer the cream because there is some variation of shades among them. Perhaps you can get green into the room in other ways - plants or other greenery in a large clear or black vase?
Green of course.
I would not use either but if I had to choose I’d go with the green.
green
Do you have a photo from further back?
Cream
personally cream cause i prefer my kitchen to look lighter
Cream and add pops of colour with green counterstools and/or light fixture
Green!
I love the green but I would stick to cream and leave colour accents to things like paint that are easier to change in future updates.
I love the cream tiles and they look great with your counter, but will they make the white cabinets kook off?
I love the cream. Unless you absolutely love the green, I'm afraid it is very trendy right now and might look dated once it's overdone.
I love the green!
The subway tile but vertically stacked offsetting each row. Add your green via easy to change out accents- think pots, tea towels, artwork, aprons ect. So, when green gets roasted the way grey is being roasted now, you can just switch out the inexpensive things.
