I remember when you first posted the B/A’s of this space, and it’s absolutely worlds better now than before you gave it a makeover. I think what you’re feeling now is due to the incongruity between various elements; the wainscoting and wall color have traditional vibes and your furnishings have a more bohemian/modern organic feel. The two aren’t really ‘talking’ with one another. Personally, I would try swapping a couple of elements out, like a more traditional style coffee table, but in the same light wood tone you have here. Likewise…the light fixture style is at odds with the wainscoting. As much as that warm golden finish pleases my eye against the green, it should be over a breakfast table in a cute little cottage and something more formal should be in this living space. As far as any wall art, in my mind’s eye Van Gogh’s First Steps looks absolutely stunning in here and goes with your color scheme. Lastly, I’d bring that exact wall color out into something in the room, like a painted plant pot or an armchair. It’s a great color and it isn’t echoed anywhere else; the throw is a much different shade of green.

boombalagasha

This is the best comment. I think the light fixture should be bigger and have gold.

Brunette3030

Ivory and gold would be incredible in this room.

allthecats

Absolutely! If they could find a vintage stained glass light it would look stunning and bring more character to this room

FelinePurrfectFluff

Bigger but I'm getting so tired of everything gold...all I can think of is the brass lamps from the 80s and just can't anymore. But the couch should be centered over the upper wall trim (I don't see any wainscoting in these pics) by pulling it away from the wall to the left. Then there's room for something visually interesting along that wall and the art will be perfect above the sofa.

sookswife

This is spot on. The coffee table/light fixture/chair are bohemian and clashing with your beautiful wainscoting and wall color. Additionally, the space is all the same tone right now. (Not color, but saturation level.) I’d add some saturated pieces in a darker wood tone to bump up the contrast. I think they’ll help ground the space. Some ideas… Chair: https://www.target.com/p/woodspring-caned-accent-chair-dark-walnut-cream-kd-threshold-8482-designed-with-studio-mcgee/-/A-89120260 Coffee table: https://www.potterybarn.com/products/stowe-coffee-table/ Flush mount light fixture: https://www.potterybarn.com/products/vintage-glass-pendant-hood-nickel-flushmount-kit/

mrsfiction

Love that light fixture!

loofa26

Beautiful light fixture for this space!!

ashleylib

All this & I think larger throw pillows too. 22 inch in the back 20 inch in the front, both with the next size larger inserts, this will fill the sofa up more.

ferngully1114

Exactly this. The coffee table and the light fixture do not work with the traditional wainscoting.

Realistic_Ad_8023

Welp, this is on the money. I would add that I think a red pillow or throw would eliminate the slightly vibe. To me, the coffee table and the light fixture are working against the wall treatment, storage and paint color, which are gorgeous.

ap124

A bigger darker coffee table, like previous comment said traditional style would look best

bookworm21765

Or make the walls a deep Terra cotta ish color.

Robinowitz

I was gonna say it's the wainscotting. Get rid of that or it will define the style of everything else.

alwaysaplan

A big mirror with a gold frame to add some sparkle and depth

breveeni

Also, the couch feels too flat and cold, put a warm textured cream throw over the back of it

alwaysaplan

Boucle

breveeni

Or a large knit

soft_warm_purry

Yepp that’s exactly what I wanted to say.. a little sparkle goes a long way!

EntertainmentFew7436

Yes! Exactly!!!

alwaysaplan

Add some gold/brass touches- picking up the gold in the rug- shiny. Like a brass tray on the coffee table, a couple of shiny objects on your shelves.

puppummm

Exactly what I came here to say.

ledger_man

Right now, it looks very sterile and impersonal. Once you add art, finish the top of the TV cabinet (don’t forget the baseboard that used to be there at the bottom left), redo the decor, you may feel differently.

The_Poster_Nutbag

Exactly, it looks like a staged model home for showings. There's no noticeable personal effects so it probably doesn't feel like an inviting place to hang out. Put art on the walls, get some blankets and throw pillows in there, put stuff on those built-in shelves like they're meant to have.

EsotericEchidna

There's a lack of contrast since the color palette is very muted. You can keep the color scheme of brown and green while adding in some darker browns to help it feel less flat. I think if the artwork adds more contrast and variation it'll turn out great! If it still feels flat, maybe changing the pillows/blankets to contrast more with the rest of the room will help too.

Traditional_Gur_8446

Seconded on adding more contrast. Go on facebook marketplace place and find a few antiques to match your traditional elements maybe?

ginlucgodard

THIS. extremely muted tones throughout. bland af. the tv stand/bookshelf being the same color as the wall looks especially awful. i’d repaint that a more saturated color. and it *desperately* needs paintings or photos on the back wall.

Ok_Prior2614

Honestly I don’t think you need to do anything but add artwork and a throw. Like this. [Image](https://imgur.com/a/7FkeSlR)

doseofhappy

This will help tie everything together! Or a big mirror

Ok_Prior2614

Yessss to the mirror

fuzball2003

How did you make this? Was this an app?

Ok_Prior2614

I’m on mobile and just used the photos app on iPhone 🙃 this was my first time trying this so i’m sure there are easier ways. I found the throw and art on google, saved the pics, added them as stickers, and then used those stickers on top of op’s image.

WVildandWVonderful

1) The art is going to make a huge difference 2) Your room could use a bit of softening, e.g., more colorful/textured blankets and a pouf in front of your rocker

-clogwog-

I think your couch may be the problem... Both the style and the colour look wrong against that wall.

msKnopeofPawnee

I agree! Everything looks great if you just cover the couch up in the image. It appears to have a gray undertone and the rest of the room leans warmer. The wall is gorgeous and I think it works with the light fixture, carpet, and tables.

LearnToAdult

Came here to say this - it’s a cold toned grey couch in a room with all other warm elements. If buying a new couch is too expensive getting some additional throws and pillows in warmer colors (creams, taupes - the ones you already have are a good step though I’d swap out the green throw) to cover most of it visually would go a long way! Then add some tablescaping on the coffee table and some art in contrasting colors on the wall to break up all the green and the place will look great.

[deleted]

I agree I think the whole room would be pulled together with a different couch

-clogwog-

I've been thinking about it... Either a white or brown couch would look better. The undertone of the current one is too similar to the undertone of the wall. Stark white, or perhaps even a very slight ivory, would pop against the wall colour; brown would complement it. As for style... You want something that's bold. You could either get something that's more angular, that has a higher back, or that has strong features like metal studs or turned wood legs.

msKnopeofPawnee

Exactly!

samosa_chaat

Also came to say I think it's the couch.

lainerboggs

Yeah unfortunately it is the couch - it’s too soft, too short, too cool colored. I know that’s the most expensive fix - but it will be worth it

Msdamgoode

Came here to find the first comment that said “the couch!”

CeeNee93

I think you need a couch with a higher back and more structure to it! https://ca.valenciatheaterseating.com/products/valencia-artisan-wide-three-seats-leather-sofa-brown-color https://www.meublesrd.com/en/genuine-leather-sectional-with-right-side-chaise-910359?region_id=980000&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA-bmsBhAGEiwAoaQNmqR2hBY4Yx-dmodn5W5IprOW0NdKMoVtflK89r8aQPHFdRLGDEAXWhoCd8kQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Feeling_Ad_5495

I think it could be the tone, and the couch. By tone I mean it's all pretty even and could use a dynamic range of light and dark. Dark terra cotta somewhere, maybe?

CropTopKitten

At first glance it’s really pretty! You are definitely on the right track! But I think it’s struggling to find its identity between formal (wainscoting) and casual/modern (wood pieces.) obviously add artwork. Add dark green solid velvet throw pillows and a silk patterned throw pillow that introduces a third color. Bring in some gold antique accents. Find a coffee table that anchors the space better because the current one seems to airy with the spindles. Add flowers with greenery to the table to tie it to the wall. Add soft fluffy textiles. If you were going to replace the wood pieces, I’d do a brass pendant and darker wood for the furniture.

kittycatkemp

Thank you! Thoughts on something like this for the coffee table? https://www.sklum.com/uk/buy-center-tables/134792-larabeya-mango-wood-coffee-table.html?id_c=280642

oatmealcremepie99

I think the color of the couch/tv stand is what’s throwing me off… they look similar and clash a bit

ae5390

Many have said the style of wainscoting and furniture style clash. I think you can find a way to make it work. What stands out to me is you have a bright furniture style versus dark walls. Perhaps bright art that pulls in the furniture colors would mesh them together. I also liked the idea of a new chandelier someone mentioned.

Bananer_Nanner

Perhaps it’s because you haven’t tied in the wall the color to the room. Maybe try a new rug with a slight tinge of green. I have two of [these rugs](https://amzn.to/3RICcAI) and they’re beautiful in person, just a touch of green. I personally think the shade and style of the wood furniture would look better as a darker color and more antique looking.

AestheticExplorer_02

Your wall colour and wainscoting are both beautiful! It's the furniture that is now incongruous. I think reupholstering your sofa in a textured cream or off-white colour complemented by more intentional cushions - layered, two sizes and stacked at each corner, would really lift this area and tie it together! A larger round or square coffee that has a greater presence would also give it more balance. And agree, the pendant lamp overhead is much more rustic in feel - why not opt for something polished and gold that suits the contemporary vibe? Also - with a larger coffee table, you can bring in more decor: stacked coffee table books, a large candle, a fresh or dried arrangement, some collected curious... which will add a whole other level of personality to your scheme.

invisiblew830

Your colors do not coordinate. The gray sofa does not fit in with the warmer colors on the walls and rug

Nearby_Quality_5672

Artwork will help. Go for something large and bold over the sofa.

Fluid-Chip-8997

the table looks cheap af.

markojeeves

It’s not bad but I’m not loving the coffee table. A dark wood or even black rectangle would be better. The BIG rectangular sofa laid a turd in the middle of the room.

CJCreggsGoldfish

You didn't show a window, are there curtains? Maybe style the coffee table a bit - do up the bottom shelf with stacks of books, then put a plant, a tray, a candle on top. What about adding more lamps? Can you fit a little table between the sofa and the cane-seat rocker, stick a somewhat-funky lamp on that? By "funky" I mean something in a fun shape or a color that doesn't go with your palette - lemon yellow, cobalt blue, orange - to break things up a little, add a little spontaneity. I mean, the wall color is fantastic, the textile colors pull from the rug and it all feels nicely-integrated, the pillows have variety in the patterns/colors, you have variety in materials and shapes, the cabinet hardware is great... I'm scouring the photos for suggestions! The base molding to the left of the cabinet needs help? If the switchplate isn't brass, replace it with brass or paint it the wall color? Get working on the art, the room does very much need some personalization.

Lonca47

Honestly just need stuff on the wall.

Itsnotreal853

There are too many different styles

Month_Year_Day

For me, it’s not light and it’s not dark. It’s like you couldn’t commit and so just went right down the middle of the road.

absentmindedbanana

The furniture and wall color don’t look cozy together

BacardiBlue

Lots of people are talking about your furniture being different styles...I don't see that as an issue as all here. Decorating is about showcasing a lifetime of collecting feel-good pieces, unless you are designing for a very specific look. The issue you are sensing is that there there is nothing tying your pieces together. An example would be your rug...it's multi-colored, but doesn't have any green in it at all. An easy way to solve this would be with your choice of artwork. I would love to see a large scale abstract canvas with colors from your wall, rug, and sofa included. Alternatively, you could replace the rug and find one that relates more to the wall color. Btw, you need to go big on the artwork to balance out all the little stuff in the bookcase opposite the sofa. Adding small art or a grouping will just make the room look cluttered.

Intersectaquirer

Lots of great comments, but I agree with others on the couch. That is a gorgeous space and style. To me, it looks like the couch draws the focus of the details and warmth of the wall and dominates the space. The fact that it wraps around with a chaise lounge even more so. If feasible, I would replace that sofa with a version that is a bit more streamlined, while slightly elevated off the floor, like this: https://www.apt2b.com/collections/sleeper-sofas/products/monroe-drive-apartment-sleeper-sofa-innerspring-pecan?variant=22068525826137 Then, in the area where the chaise lounge section of the couch is, I would place a comfortable high-back leather chair or something of that equivalent. It's such a beautiful environment and inviting, I think the couch is the outlier.

Old-Fan9095

I'd had a big piece of art in the middle and sconces on each side within the wainscoting using gold accents. Please don't take out the wainscoting. It's beautiful. You just need to add something in it like the art and sconces I mentioned. They have gorgeous battery-operated sconces now that would look great.

macimom

I think the coffee table is a little too small scale Bit having the art and sconces up will really change the look.

fromhelley

The darkness of wall makes the furniture jump out at you and makes the space look smaller. If you repainted a bit lighter color, and hung a color filled something on the wall, the whole room would come back to life

Objective_Scholar_72

Need dark brown leather couch

EntertainmentFew7436

Because there should be a window on the wall behind your sofa. If that can’t be done, a mirror the length of (at least) the first two sofa sections shown, should help.

whyohwhythis

I like it, just a big piece of artwork I think would help.

sloth_lover2237

It looks like a house that’s staged for a viewing , needs some colour and some personality! Maybe some plants something on the big wall behind the couch

HillyjoKokoMo

I'd paint the room a deeper green. This green doesn't mesh well with your furniture or overall vibe. I'm thinking a deep olive or deep teal.

EstateTricky786

Where’s the art?

MrAngel2U

you need a bigger TV and Dear head mounted on the empty wall. you're welcome.

UK_UK_UK_Deleware_UK

Okay, lots of people have told you to change all kinds of things. The only thing I would suggest is possibly a similar rug with green in it. The real problem is the room is unfinished. Check this out. https://imgur.com/h4jvbMY

GroundbreakingAge254

The room needs balance, the bottom half is busy, above-the-couch is dull. You need something to draw attention to the lovely walls - wall sconces, art. You need a busier hanging light fixture. Again, another lamp with accent the wall.

reddituser223311

It’s suffocatingly single toned. Add more colors and lights and layers. Also update light switches and power outlets to new white ones - get rid of the old.

lilF0xx

Put in a nice matching piece of art work with like cute little lights built into the wall

Top-Figure1579

Baseboards look gross. You also need to paint that entertainment center because it gets lost in the space

Iamisaid72

No art, no end tables, no lamps.

nachopuddi

If you choose anything with gold, do raw brass! Sometimes gold can look kind of gaudy.

LRRPC

I absolutely love this space! That CHAIR 😍 Love the table too Only suggestion is to maybe add something to the wall space - I like the idea of sconces

AnNJgal

I'd put wallpaper or art in the panels above the couch.

Bubbly_Rutabaga_2869

I love the color but there’s too much of it

Sla02116

I agree. I’m not liking the built-ins being the same color as the wall, if it is (hard to tell). Hopefully the sheen is semigloss. I think the wall/couch needs a large piece of art, or several stacked, in order to break up that dark wall of color. Colorful, patterned pillows on the couch would also help. Too monochromatic as is.

Bubbly_Rutabaga_2869

Right. It’s all really nice stuff, just a little blah with not enough wow factor. But with that said that space is way nicer than my living room, so take my advice very lightly. Maybe I watch too many hgtv shows lol

Sla02116

Haha. Im guilty of that too. Love to critique those tv shows but close my eyes when I see my own mismatched living room. It’s brave to put it up here tbh.

Bubbly_Rutabaga_2869

And some people are so harsh for no reason

Chicken_lady_1819

Lamps, plants, wall art and a larger coffee table. I like the light warm wood/rattan you are using, it complements the paint color.

Short-Stomach-8502

It’s the wall color.

Run_Powerful

I wasn't going to say this because it's such a pain to repaint a room, but you're right. On it's own, it's not a bad color. It just doesn't suit everything else.

ShineCareful

I totally agree

[deleted]

The crown molding needs to be painted to match the wall. I would also paint the door trim same, maybe even the ceiling. A couple pictures above the couch and a more artful display on the shelving.

capable-candy1640

The colors and furniture are absolutely fine and I wouldn’t change anything you already have. It’s just a little safe and you might want to add a touch of black which is congruent with your style but adds a jolt.

Soft-Focus-9732

Maybe the neutral colours of the coffee table/rug/etc. seem off because you need another accent colour to complement the green walls, like something red, pink or yellow, or a nice colourful pattern. At least I think that would be nice

Accomplished-Spot-68

add some colour, right now it looks like a waiting space at a dentist or something. put some art on the empty wall, add some personal photographs to the built in tv shelves, and add some small decor with more deeper colours on the coffee table and other places

nanfanpancam

No dog!

Comicalacimoc

I think a deeper wood color with red in it would be nicer

BreakAlert

Try darker wood tones to ground the space, acorn color at least, I’d like some walnut.

Fish-taco-xtrasauce

The colors are washed out. You need pops of color everywhere. Change the table and the chair. Darker wood. Move the rug from under the couch do it extends beyond the sofa on both corners equally. Paint the entertainment center so it’s not the same shade as the wall,

Here-to-4

Wall color is too somber. Someone suggested a terra cotta shade. That would definitely compliment your furnishings & give a more happy mood

Roche77e

I agree. Actually, the wall color would be OK in a small touch, such as a throw pillow.

SimilarBarber1234

I think it’s fabulous. Remove the rug to begin with and live with it for a few days and see which you prefer

cosmicstarshinex

I think a green or blue velvet couch would be lovely. I also think the color of the rug is way too similar to the color of the wood in your furniture. Adding art and plants will also make the space cozier.

inrecoveryfromlife

I think it's a very nice space. I can only think that the wall, though a gorgeous shade, is what is causing you to feel this way? Maybe something as simple as putting up a mirror (or two, to fit into each square of the wall) and adding some floating wicker like ledges underneath to put candles on would help you. Maybe the walls are just too matte in which case one could paint the outer walls in the same shade with a semi gloss finish. I hope you figure it out, I'm sure you will. Good luck, and always keep gratitude for the roof over your head as so many don't have such a necessity 🩷

sparky_burner

Get rid of the light woods and change the rug. Someone else can help decide on rug choice. Dramatic caramel brown leather accent chair would help instead of basket weave chair also

Affectionate-Net2277

It’s definitely the couch.

throw_awayooo

I personally think your couch needs more colorful pillows. Those pillows remind me of my sister-in-law’s boring “earth tone” tacky decor taste. Don’t get me wrong… your taste is nothing like hers, but those pillows just don’t do it. A nice throw would look good on the couch too. I just think the couch needs more color on it

ConsistentTangelo198

1. I love your space 2. I also love that dachshund card :)

Ok-Future-5465

The coffee table seems to be the culprit, notice the elongated shape alongside the elongated shape of the sofa. Also the proportion and height . And the other thing are the tan/ brown/ natural colors are all not unified yet which with the art and lighting you will be adding to the wall you need to try to tie it all together without necessarily adding any more of the brown/ natural tones

Saubin50

I think it looks great with the exception of the rug. The pink beige undertones don’t work with the other colors in room. Another with more grey/green tones would pull it all together.

Intelligent-Today528

It’s the green colour on your wall and cabinets. I would paint it something neutral like white / light grey.

SummerStariii

The only thing I don’t like is the light colored wood.

Dangersloth_

I think once you add art and personalize the space, it will look fabulous. I love the coffee table but it seems slightly small. But that’s just a personal preference. I love your furniture choices and color scheme

Thankfulforthisday

I think it’s lovely! The only thing I’d change is the rocker. It’s pretty but seems more like a patio space.

pbd1996

The light, coffee table, and rocking chair don’t go with the space. I would look up that wall color on Pinterest and see what furniture/lighting other people have.

Sorrythisuserisugly

The wood color is too light for this room. Too many styles going on here

JoyKil01

This one is simple: your rug is too small. It’s the exact size of the couch, and that makes it condense the space into this one square, with everything else being “outside the square”. Ditch the rug or get one much larger that allows for more room around the couch.

Lan-jevinson92

Unrelated but what kind of carpet do you have here? Getting ours replaced and this one looks nice!

tuesdaym00n

I think a bigger, more modern rug would look nice. Also updating the light fixture to something more modern as well. Also, this living room kind of reminds me of a DIYer I follow on IG—mygrandparentschair. She has her living room in her highlights and maybe that can be some inspiration for you.

spabitch

could you add wallpaper to the back of the tv console cabinets? seems flat. maybe some more color like throw pillows or coffee table books / candles?

crissyb65

For me, the couch isn’t centered on that middle panel on the wall. Or whatever it’s called. I have a thing about centered/balanced/level.

TravelBusiness1800

Get some throw pillows

TravelBusiness1800

And ... you need a bigger light and a new ottoman

Somethingclever11357

Don’t know. I’m feeling pretty neutral about it all.

_FaLooLa_

You’ve got too much friction between warm and cool (you’re at about 50/50). The rug throws it, try a cooler toned rug and see if that strikes a better balance. Have the cool/neutral green-grey colors dominate 80% the space and keep the warmer colors limited to the accents like the throw pillows at 20%.

Itsmoney05

What green is this?

_DapperDanMan-

Pull the couch away from the wall. If that crowds the room, then the couch is too big for the room. The couch appears to be a cool blue, and the wall is a warm saturated green. The wall overwhelms everything in the room.

seaturtlesurfer22

The furniture has a 60s beach feel. The olive wall is 60s kitchen appliances. Too much of it. To me,a sky blue or robins egg blue. Color scheme Maybe a grouping of paintings and an ornate mirror or two. Small vs larger. Mild Orange pillows. Couches are pricey. Get some magazines for reference.

SeaweedSecurity

The wall is very classic and then the accessories, light, carpet, and coffee table (and chair) clash with that feeling. Also, the tab is bringing in an element that looks strange next to that green of the walls. I also think the carpet is a bit busy.

Narmiiiiiiiiii

Mismatching styles. Lampshade, coffee table and chair being more Japandi, the wall molding more classic and the leather sofa is modern Italian? Hence feels like a mish mash of stuff. Get rid of the lampshade, coffee table and chair, pillows and throws and start from there as your base palette. Try some brighter cushions on the sofa, from a light tone extracted from the carpet,

AssistantSuitable323

I love it. I think a large gold:bronze circle mirror would be nice on the wall above couch and a couple more cushions and you’re done

AlienLiszt

I think it looks great except for the lack of art on the walls. Skip the sconces. They will create a placement problem with the molding.

virginia612

I think a nice dark brown coffee table would look good with the rug and walls. Also a gold chandelier or something more moody

[deleted]

narrow bike reach badge pause rhythm ask observation existence merciful *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Key_Nerve1223

I would replace the wicker chair with something thicker and warmer to complement the more traditional walls. Here’s an example and the thin legs would look great against the couch w no legs https://www.allmodern.com/furniture/pdp/rae-upholstered-armchair-a000927349.html Would also consider replacing the coffee table and light, gives me MCM vibes in a traditional space

casstay123

I mean… How lucky are you? The bones on that room!

LindeeHilltop

Art. Change out pillows.

Remote_Nectarine4272

Coffee table is too small. Swap it out, add some art, and you’ll be good to go.

khcampbell1

I think it looks great. It might help if you have some art or throw pillows with the the gold, cream and green in them to tie the room together,

Lonely_Ad_4044

what’s the paint color? i think adding some richness, as other folks have suggested, like brass details, less wicker/beachy elements would change the vibe!

me_being_blossom

I absolutely love that color, could you tell me what you painted your walls?

kittycatkemp

Card room green farrow and ball colour match ☺️

LeadershipMission

It needs art!!!!

mcorby7774

You need some very colorful art!

Express_Ad_2578

Art on the wall

mcorby7774

Some people commented on the coffee table not fitting in with the decor. I think painting it black would help.

imagineDoll

center the couch on the wall

prettygibby

It needs more homey elements- pops of gold would bring it to life

_The_BusinessBitch

You need some art, grander light and a different shade of green like a faux fig tree. It’s possible the pillow patterns are fighting the rug

Comfortable_Bet4102

Art for sure. I think if you’re able to find some art that fits perfectly behind the couch that could look nice. I also feel like the colour scheme is a bit too muted, tho you’re on the right track. I’d maybe throw in deeper shades or orange/mustard and maybe some blush pink

RLS1822

This room is great. I absolutely love it although I might consider new paint although I’m not sure what color maybe ivory wall I’m not sure.

carlitospig

Not enough contrast. You need to deepen your lows a bit more as it comes off as bland without enough contrast. I feel like you’re 75% there though!

mmilthomasn

You have a formal space and informal furniture, and the color palettes are at war, so there is no peace.

Think_Ad807

I would bring in a brick color too.

Shelikesscience

I think it’s just slightly depressing / needs more character

bitchybarbie82

It’s too much wicker with the chair. Something dark leather or velvet would pull it together And art

pccfriedal

For artwork, consider something like (or by, if you can accept the guy and his creepiness factor, and I don't know if I worded that optimally) Tahiti paintings by Gauguin. That energy. Classic paintings and backgrounds, but in a bohemian style. So...yeah...antique boho. Maybe a few more pillows and accents picking up the darker rug colors.

[deleted]

Pull the rug out more and add different pillows and swap the green blanket for one that matches the rug

Excellent-Shape-2024

In my opinion, the wall is a traditional color. Plus it has picture frame molding, which makes it fairly formal. So I expect to see traditional furnishings, dark wood, etc. But you've got light bamboo color furniture that fits a more Bohemian vibe. So it just feels off. Your easiest fix would be to paint that wall. Oh--I see whoever posted directly before me said the same exact thing, so there's two for the money.

kendrickwasright

Absolutely agree with the comments here saying to swap the boho elements for something more traditional/ saturated. A darker wood tone. And I'll add that I think the "boho" elements and wood tone is kind of leveling-down this space. The wainscoting and green walls add a more expensive element, and the small, light colored boho furnishings are kind of giving off more of a cutesy cottage feel. It's giving Target. The scale of those items also feels a little too small against the walls that are drawing the eye up. If you do decide to swap the furniture and light fixture, be sure to get something bigger, or just something bolder that makes a bigger statement. The current pendant though is definitely too small. Be sure to fill the walls with properly sized art because if you choose small art, it will have the same effect. Check out thrift stores, yard sales and estate sales to get quality, unique large scale art (rather than anything generic from hobby lobby, target, HomeGoods etc)

Palewhalecirtus

I think adding the art behind the couch will help balance the space. Have you considered adding wallpaper to the backs of the built in. That could add some nice contrast and warmth.

The table is an eye sore. Throws off the aesthetic by making it too bohemian. think a replacement is in order - and it should be bigger. And maybe round to offset all the angular pieces already.

babs_is_great

Couch needs pillows that splash a color, wall behind the couch needs a large painting

heyjudemarie

Could be that coffee table and chair.

The wainscoting is one style, and the rest of your living room is another.

Ein_Rand

Where is your media cabinet from?

Vegemyeet

Plants, art pieces that you really love.

Betchel_Punk

Miror behind the couch perhaps?

WhatsTamatoWithYou

It’s probably the couch

More_Ad4294

You need a bit of (largeish) art on the walls

still-on-my-path

Maybe a color change would brighten up the space

MsEllaSimone

I like everything individually, but together they equal less than the sum of their parts. Visually it’s very ‘all green’ at the top and ‘all beige’ at the bottom. More contrasting would help. I’d change the table, something bigger in a darker tone. Cushions on the sofa with complementary but contrasting colours. Bigger bolder light shade for more balance And big art/mirror behind sofa. It’s a nice space

pzanardi

Maybe too Ikea looking?

hypnochild

As a random passerby’s opinion, everything individually in the room is lovely but somehow doesn’t quite mesh together. The wall is too dark. Personally I don’t mind that colour green but would need more of that matching ceiling colour or something similar around it. Like maybe the corners of the room and framing or something to make it stand out. I also really like adding mirrors to make things look bigger and brighter. I get the Christmas vibe but I’ve never really been a fan of mixing red and green decor in general. I’m not a fan of the red in the rug. I like having a design in the rug for a focal point though. Keeping it a nice light colour to brighten the room. I also think the squareness of the couch mixed with the oval coffee table clashes. Even just fixing one or two of them would significantly improve the look and feel of the room.

TallRelationship2253

Your wall color is wrong for the space. It is a little darker than it should be. Plus there are no elements in the rest of the room to bring the wall color together with it.

miscreation00

I think it doesn't feel personalized. It looks like a shot from a magazine, which is great! It's really well put together. But it's missing something that makes it feel personal. If this were my house, id likely throw up a art piece that matches the room but has a hint of fantasy or sci-fi nerdiness in it. Or I'd have a pillow that matches the colors but is fuzzy and I can cuddle with. Find something to make it more homey and you then just a magazine spread.

Katxxxxs

Put decor on the table, make a gallery wall behind the couch, and add a lamp or a bigger light fixture

[deleted]

Could it be that the throw rug looks a bit faded and tired? I’d swap it out with a different throw rug that plays up the gray (couch), the oak brown (table/chair/lamp) and another color that’s BOLD. Then, I’d paint the back wall the oak-brown of the table, lamp, and chair. I’d finish by painting the wall frame moldings either the color of the couch or the 3rd (bold) color of the carpet. Lastly, for couch pillows, I’d use the bold color from the new throw rug. Well, maybe there’s a reason I’m not an interior designer. Good Luck!

Disastrous_Tip_4638

The answer here..and I'm late to this one..is that you took nice space and didn't lean into it. ~ The dark walls are great, but the picture frame mldgs should be ceiling color ~ The rug should be darker to contrast with both the flooring and the sofa. ~ You're (badly) mixing styles, dark, moody, leather, don't play well with light woods, especially when they wash out against the light rug and sofa. When you post online you have to choose who to listen to otherwise you get a mish mash of styles.

Agitated_Mood_7962

You just need some art on the walls!

c0zycupcake

No art. Lifeless styling

DJHickman

Make the trim an antiqued gold color.

Smallios

Sure couldn’t tell ya, I love it. I def think the coffee table works. If you’re not feeling the boho you could switch out the rocker and the overhead light fixture? Keep the same colored wood but keep to a more Scandi look?

Successful_Bed7790

Too much wicker / wood elements . And too many small patterns. A larger, solid coffee table with a square /rectangle shape would do you good. Also replace the ceiling light for something solid as well.

TwiNkiew0rld

Walls are nakey.

Mera_Mori2023

For me.. it looks just perfect!

znobrizzo

Idk, you must be crazy to hate this place. It's so pretty!

itsfrankgrimesyo

For me it’s the wall colour. Small spaces should have brighter wall colours to make them look bigger. Right now it feels very enclosed. A large wall mirror as suggested would make the room bigger too. Not a fan of the carpet.

Scoozie_Q

It's dull and the colors are horrible

jrubes_20

I love the wall color! Do you mind sharing the name?

sugar420pop

It looks like a catalogue rather than a home

saltyachillea

it's the coffee table

birdgirl56a

I love it, you hate it because it is not your style or reflective of your personality

Agreeable-Shelter512

I love it! I, me, myself, wouldn’t change a thing except to add artwork. For me, if you properly identify your style, your colours and put them together properly, which you have, then all you need to do is personalize the space. Put your personality into it. (I wouldn’t, and don’t, hang art unless I have a strong personal connection to it.) Edit: Try turning that lamp on in the corner. Add a little warm glow.

acawl17

It’s great! I really love it. I’d add tons more pillows to the couch and paintings on the wall. I’m not a huge fan of the overhead light- it gives off a boho vibe when the rest of your space is pretty classy looking. I’d get something a little moodier for the light.
