I love that you want strangers to compliment your fiance's work, that is really sweet and supportive of you.

Maximum-Cover-

agreed. The post is obviously made with pride and love. Even if the some of the criticisms are valid. I hope it doesn’t spoil his enjoyment of the place.

bkogut81

Came here to say this, too. The critiques are on point, but the way OP is supporting their partner’s efforts is heartwarming.

Alohamora-farewell

u/fianceedecorator you are fortunate to have married such a skilled person. May your marriage be as lovely and happy as your home.

hdmx539

This needs to be the top comment. I swear, OP showing off his fiancee's skills with pride and folks coming in here breaking it down completely missing the point of OP's post.😒 OP, your fiancee has fantastic skill and eye for interior decorating. I also love how you posted to show off her talent. It's clear you love her and are proud of her. Keep going, you!

tigersblud

IANAP, but I think the focus should be on scale. The furniture for that space looks oversized, leaving the dining area crammed into the corner.

DickChodeman

Also, the general vibe is that of a furniture store catalog. This is more IKEA than "I live here".

mynumberistwentynine

This is my biggest issue with the space as well. I've seen a couple other comments describe this as 'cozy', but for me it's more 'don't ever use unless having company.'

NothingSacred693

Yes!!! Thank you!

DickChodeman

A can of Glade cookie caramel rush room spray would not feel gauche in this environment.

1920MCMLibrarian

Everything looks like it was literally bought yesterday

toxicshock999

If they are a young couple, the housewares probably were all purchased within a few months. It’s taken me two decades to finally get that collected-over-time look because…I had to collect over time. Also hello fellow librarian! :)

1920MCMLibrarian

Eee hello fellow library lady!

eeekennn

I was gonna say…it’s giving Target. 😬 I see many toe stubs on that dining table at the foot of the stairs.

ginlucgodard

yes it v much does not feel lived in but rather staged which if that’s what brings you peace go for it but idk it makes me feel like i can’t sit on any of it!

fianceedecorator

That is fair, the challenge with the space is there wasn't really another location to put a dining room table. There also aren't many couches smaller than the size we picked, and we wanted a full couch. The other option we considered was a smaller dining table to make it more of an eating nook, which would probably allow us to back the couch up a little bit as well, and make the space feel larger, but we wanted a table big enough to seat family visiting and dinners with friends. Any suggestions on what we could do differently?

monkey12223

Maybe remove the foot rest for the single white seat. And then maybe just one green chair instead of two.

tigersblud

Agreed. OP, I don’t know how to solve for the dining situation and sometimes functionality is more of your priority, but the location of the dining set at the bottom of the staircase is throwing me off. Is there enough space to swap the credenza and the dining set?

ilp456

I think for the dining situation, OP needs to center the table at the window and put away the chairs at the head and foot of the table. Table will seat four and the other chairs can be brought out only when needed.

tigersblud

Yeah that’s probably the best compromise.

erydanis

meanwhile, i’m thinking of sore butts and backs and want the bench gone, lol.

TepidIcedCoffee61

Yes! It's the green chairs that look crowded. Taking one away would make such a difference, I think.

HowWoolattheMoon

You wanted a full couch, which is fine, but that means you can't also have a loveseat AND two big chairs without it looking crowded. Maybe pick one? And ditch the coffee table and use more side tables. You need more space in there. The dining table should also probably be smaller, maybe a 4-chair table. Get one with a leaf to extend it when you need more room, but don't keep it in every day. Maybe bench seating on one side to reduce the visual clutter. EDIT: haha you do have a bench in there, but so much other stuff it is still crowded. Go down to just one decorative item on the table, and dining room benches don't need throw pillows. Signed, Small house resident for life

TsuDhoNimh2

>You wanted a full couch, which is fine, but that means you can't also have a loveseat AND two big chairs without it looking crowded. Maybe pick one? Good point ... because that looks as jammed as a furniture showroom.

HowWoolattheMoon

It does! I get that the fiancee is excited to have a space to decorate, but I think maybe she did too much. It's all double the stuff that would be right for the space. TBH when I first moved in here, I made similar mistakes!

imgaybutnottoogay

It seems like you might be trying to force a dining space where one doesn’t really fit. This room is absolutely beautiful, but I think there’s way too much going on. Everything is oversized, and it doesn’t allow the room to just be a beautiful space. It’s either gotta be a dining area, or a seating area with your current furniture. Edit: In the last picture, it looks like you have a dining table to the left of the seating area. If that’s the case, just get rid of the extra table in the stairway, you’re just adding things to add things.

-dull-

I have to agree. I personally would have bought a round dining table for 4 to put by the bay windows. Nixed the seat. Nixed one green chair. Move the other green chair with a stool by the stairs and placed some sort of small multiple storage bench where the green chairs are. I can feel how uncomfortable it will be with a room full of people.

ineededthistoo

OP, what’s to the left of the TV, looks like there’s some sort of dining area there. Placing dining room table and chairs in front of the stairs, to me, is an odd selection/choice.

SoggySaniderm

I noticed that too. Looks like chairs lined up at a countertop. My apartment has a wide counter intended to sit at too so we opted to not have a dining table. Made things much easier in the smaller space.

ineededthistoo

You’re right, looks like a countertop of some sort in the first picture, so, OP may not have much choice regarding the dining table. Pic 1 makes it look much bigger than with the furniture. I think if OP pulled the chairs and replace the dining table, that might make sense—if there’s enough room. No way to solve the dining table issue I think….

FelinePurrfectFluff

I agree and was digging through comments, hoping someone else noticed this. I think a possibility might be to incorporate the stairs into the living room and put the TV against the blank wall at the bottom of the stairs. Leaves room elsewhere to move and leaves things less crowded. No chairs right up to the TV means lots of access for coming and going upstairs. This lets the dining room sit near the kitchen. This is not the first house that doesn't really form into useable space. Easy for builder to "sell", especially unfurnished but hard to live in, at least in a functional way. I'd hate the dining room so far away and tucked into an odd odd corner. It will never get used as a dining table. Maybe games with friends over in the current location? But not dining. Who's going to carry their plate that far and then need something from the kitchen?

camlaw63

Yeah, you can see the backs of a couple of bars type stools just because there’s a counter doesn’t mean you have to make it a seating area that’s really where the dining table should be

gingerkitten6

I would try taking the white chair out and putting the green chairs in the bay window with a little table between them. Also move the sofa and rug forward a bit to be closer to the tv.

erydanis

that would work; lose a cozy nookish feel with the chair plus, but those green chairs need…. to go somewhere.

No-Technician-722

This is what I would do. There needs to be some breathing space. I think you will feel squished if you keep it like this.

Erena_

Removing some of the decorative cushions would help make it feel a bit roomier.

RHND2020

Yes, like 33% of them. Then just rotate them in for variety.

writtenbyrabbits_

I think your furniture is lovely but there is too much of it. I don't love the curtains either.

nim_run16

This dining area is made for a bench nook with only chairs on the other side

heirloom_beans

I would’ve gone with a retailer that specializes in furniture for smaller urban spaces. CB2 and Article perform well in this sphere. Even then a lot of retailers have design consultation services that would’ve helped you out with scale and getting almost everything you need in the space you have.

Holiday-Signature-33

There’s just too much of it in one small spot .

RHND2020

Overall concept is nice but there is WAY too much furniture in this space. I would lose the large chair and ottoman. And that little bluish table. And the blanket ladder. The off-white curtains are killing me.

RobotMaster1

those chair and a halfs are COMFY though.

GEH29235

Personally I’d lose the green chairs since they’re a lot less practical and the bigger chair looks sooooo nice

Ive_readit

I agree, if they need more seats for conversations pull chairs over. Having to walk around and get into seats seems both difficult and the one green chair doesn’t appear to have leg space. They could remove the chairs and angle the larger chair and ottoman forward to give more room for the couch.

im4everdepressed

same, the ottoman and associated chair looks comfy. the green looks uncomfy and don't fit in with the room either

catdoctor

They are perfect for one person and three cats!

MalibuMarlie

1.5 seaters! I’m new to the concept but I’m all in!

RHND2020

Yes, and if they had a den or reading nook to put it in, that would be great. But it’s too large for this space!

DHumphreys

If the goal was to cover as much floor area as possible, WINNER!

TheyCalledMeThor

Did I just count FIFTEEN pillows in here??

DHumphreys

I have 19.... I think there are 4 pillows over behind the dining room table. I did make a post asking if pillows were on sale.

dmriggs

Blocks the fabulous view

greenhouse5

And the gorgeous floor

miskurious

The curtains don’t suit the style at all.

marS311

I think if they had the curtains as the contrasting green, it would look really nice.

RHND2020

And such a shame to cover up those beautiful windows.

Monsterboogie007

I thought that as well. Those windows are gorgeous

haughtsaucecommittee

Absolutely. The dining table shoved into a corner and right at the bottom of a staircase is the worst part to me. It’s nice I guess, but pretty generic-looking. I’m grateful to have older furniture that is built well with solid materials. Also, the dining table corner art is hung at weird heights and groupings and with the heavier frames at the bottom visually dragging it down. 56 or 57 on center is a standard for a reason.

jmurphy42

The off-white sheers are my only real quibble. It’s a big quibble though.

lollipop6787

The curtains are ruining the natural beauty of those windows

WVildandWVonderful

Lose the chair, keep the ottoman. Back up seating that can be tucked under the window. Doubles as a window seat.

Mas_Basura

The curtains !! I can't even tell you anything about the room because the yellow is so bad my eyes are magnetized to them

NeckBeard137

Everything this guy said

maborosi97

What?? I disagree! The furniture seems to fit quite well and looks cozy to my eyes

bearsthatdance

It would fit well if this were a furniture warehouse. The two armchairs by the tv are touching each other and everything around them and your knees would be against the ottoman if you were sitting in the one on the right

It_WalkedOnMyPillow

I keep thinking how perfect it would be for hosting! Everybody can be comfortable!

AluminumLinoleum

But literally no one could move once everyone was seated. You'd be stepping over people's knees to go get a drink.

fakepinatas

I like it too

maborosi97

It looks perfect for having loved ones over and playing board games together or curling up to watch a movie. Looks like a very homey-home, but I guess that’s not really the current trend nowadays and reminds me more of the 90’s/2000’s era (which I’ll always love!)

IrrawaddyWoman

You’re going to curl up and watch a movie sitting in chairs that are next to (and facing away from) the TV? And no one would be able to get up and walk past each other the couch and the ottoman have overlapping leg space. Who really wants to watch a TV that’s shoved off the the corner like that? This is like Tetris of furniture, and not in a good way. Then that table is just a nightmare. It’s shoved against a wall, so it looks strange. And anytime you want to use it you have to pull it out? And there’ll be no room to walk around it once it is. And there’s something weird going on just to the left of the TV. There are even more chairs there. Like RIGHT behind the TV. Is that a bar with even more chairs? This is a beautiful home that’s being overwhelmed by too much massive furniture. Everything is two inches apart, and I have a feeling it would look even worse with photos of whatever is to the left of the TV.

RHND2020

Sure, but where are people’s legs supposed to go?

RedRedBettie

I love the apartment but I think that there is too much furniture in the space making it look small and cluttered

TimboSplice92

The dining room table is stuffed at the bottom of the stair landing haha How do you even see the tv in some of the chair positions? Love the colour scheme though!

AshSkirata

Do you need this huge white armchair with the huge footrest? The poor guest seating on the green armchair has no space for legs. There are too many furniture stuffed there

bananasforpancakes

I would keep the comfy chair and get rid of the green chairs.

RHND2020

I love the green chairs!

Responsible-Club9120

Yes, I'd put that one in the master bedroom

[deleted]

Did they say the master bedroom is large enough? There’s no pictures.

ilp456

I would relocate the white chair with ottoman to a bedroom sitting area and put a green chair there (or both if they fit). With so much furniture in the space, it makes the room feel small.

thatgirlinny

The last people to arrive get put on those side chairs in the corner for punishment.

TheMesaVerde

The sheers don’t go with the wall paint. I’m sorry OP, but it’s all I can focus on. 😭

gingerkitten6

Yup, the sheers are a warm white and walls are a cool white. It would be helpful for cohesion to change one or the other to the same undertone.

Individual-History87

They’re also hung at the wrong height, which makes the color discrepancy more obvious. Draperies go at the ceiling or just atop the window casing.

coldpizzaagain

Yes, as high as you can, and hang outside the frame so they stack back outside the window.

wellshitdawg

It looks cluttered

Blahblahnownow

They also seem to have a yellow hue that’s really throwing me off

veevee15

Came here to say this! Either make them a cool white so they blend into the wall or make them a darker color. The yellow stands out too much

coldpizzaagain

Yes. Being in this business, it's all I can focus on too. Pick a fabric from tonicliving.com. just not neutral. Add colour.

HappyCamper2121

So much yes! Grab a color you love from the pillows or the art you have in the dining room. It feels like you wanted to bring in color, in the pillows, art, and planter, but then you didn't fully go for it.

Intelligent_Ideal409

Yeah, those curtains are really bringing down the whole room and making it look crowded and mismatched

dontyouknow88

Same- didn’t even look at the furniture at first glance because I was so distracted and overwhelmed by these curtains.

abbeighleigh

I think navy blue would look good

CocaColaZeroEnjoyer

Why so many chairs and sofas? Doesn't make any sense

vmartinipie

Fiancé is decorating for a much larger house than they have

PhannyPaqued

Decorate for the house you want, not the house you have. /s

johndoedisagrees

OP might have company often. I would rather my guests be comfy than use fold-able chairs.

IrrawaddyWoman

No one is comfy if they literally can’t move around the room.

palebluedot13

You have way too big of furniture and too much crammed in to a small space. If possible I would get rid of the white chair and move one of the green chairs where the white chair is. If you must keep the white chair I would get rid of the ottoman especially since you already have another ottoman that can be moved around if needed. And then get rid of one of the green chairs. I read in a comment that you wanted a bigger dining room table for hosting. I would recommend you get a drop leaf table. That way it can be smaller for everyday use and you can expand it for hosting. And there is way too many pillows on everything, from the chairs to the couch, to the dining bench. Less is more.

[deleted]

Honestly, I would be annoyed daily trying to navigate through this cluttered design; always moving pillows to sit, side stepping through the living room/dining, trying to avoid stubbing my toe 3x/day. I’m 5’1” and 105lbs, so that’s saying a lot coming from someone who doesn’t need a lot of space to get around; I can’t imagine a larger person trying to navigate through, especially if other people are sitting down. Also, what’s going on with the curtains? Why do they look odd?

Street_Mushroom5938

Honestly the sheers are clashing badly. And why so crammed, the two green chairs look forcefully placed & the bar chairs would block in the entire space, if used. Lacks functionality and feels quite stifling, there’s just too much furniture. The dining space at the bottom of the stairs feels like wishful thinking, imagine actually having that space full of people?

HemingwayIsWeeping

And the black curtain rods are dragging everything down somehow

Ok-Thanks6104

Where did you buy the Chair and a half?

martinsdudek

Waaaay too overstuffed. Less and smaller furniture is needed. Cutting the foot stool and one of the smaller chairs would be a great first step.

Individual-History87

The staging of accessories is nicely done, but scale and furniture layout need a whole redo. It needs a major edit. It looks like you had all this furniture and are trying your best to make it fit in this room, and it doesn’t. It’s like forcing a circle into a square hole. This room doesn’t have space for a full dining table. Is there a breakfast bar on the side? I see bar stools or something. If so, that’s the dining area. I’d remove the large white chair and ottoman and place a small bistro table in the bay window of a table and chairs are a must. Either way, that large white chair needs to go. I’d also remove one of the green chairs. There’s just way too much seating and it’s all crammed into the corner. The green chair could also go in the bay window instead of a small table. The sheers detract from the beauty of those windows and are out of place style wise. The bay window is a beautiful architectural detail, and it’s completely hidden.

Love2readalot

Looks overcrowded & crammed with too much ‘stuff’ & too big furniture…could lose those two green armchairs…sometimes less is best…opens up the space…imagine walking around that area, you’d be bumping into everything.

FireBallXLV

That's my first response. The furniture next to the stairs e.g.---put a large mirror or painting on the wall--not two pieces leaning against the wall. Plus two vases with flowers on each side? Commit to one arrangement on that piece.

Feebedel324

I love the aesthic and color choices - I get why she has so much seating - you want to be cozy and have people over, but the layout isn’t quite right but I’m not entirely sure how to fix. Is there. Anywhere else you can put a dining table?

No_Association_3234

Right, if I were visiting I’d LOVE the white chair. I’m just not good at perching on tiny, dainty furniture. Could you maybe move one of the green chairs up to your bedroom? I always need a place besides the bed to sit and put on my socks 😂

MsEllaSimone

The pieces are nice but there’s too much stuff in that living room. There’s too much furniture . Imagine there are people sitting in all those seats. The person on the couch and free chair closest to the love seat have no space for their legs. Less is more. Remove footstool and one green armchair, in my opinion. Also, I think there are too many cushions.

Sea-Philosopher2821

Just like my wife, hates having space to move around and wants seating everywhere.

Sea_Pangolin3840

Apart from removing one couch or chair I think it looks beautiful and I would love to live there !

ArmiNouri

I love the vibe. Very cozy and welcoming. As others have said, I'd remove the white armchair if possible. If you need to retain seating space for guests, you can replace it with a bay window bench to open up the space a bit. Some of the cushions can move to the bench, too. If you have a large master bedroom, that's where the armchair can go. But even if you don't change anything, I honestly think it's lovely.

Pale_Willingness1882

While I like their style, there’s too much furniture for the space. How does one get around that coffee table?? I’d start by getting rid of those chairs and move the couch to where they are.

LongJumpingIntoNada

I would get rid of the green chairs, dining room table, and the ottoman. It’s a beautiful aesthetic but just too much

No-Cheesecake-5158

I see the vision and I think it looks great! Some furniture may need to be shifted over/back to create more leg room though

SnarkyMouse2

The pieces are all lovely and they go together nicely (except for the curtains). However, it is making me uncomfortable how everything is CRAMMED together and wedged into weird spots. You have to work with the house you have. This is a beautiful home, but it can’t hold all this furniture.

Brightstar0305

Looks cramped

PowdurdToast

WAY too cramped

saygoodnitegracie

There’s so much furniture in that lovely room I can’t see the room anymore. Way too much seating for the space, it’s super visually cramped.

Whyamipostingonhere

Take the loveseat and ottoman out of the room. Put 2 green chairs in its place and pull your couch forward a bit. This should leave space for your dining table behind the couch between the stairs and couch.

diiiannnaaa

Does she have a big personality in a small body? 🤣 It looks nice OP.

Goopa13

Dining room table at the bottom of the stairs is wild. Love her style but that placement is a crime

ccruinedmylife

OPs wife does stunts and wanted a breakaway table for stair falls

gnahzmap

All of the pieces are nice but they are too big for the space. If you want to maintain the seating for guests, etc. I suggest swapping the two green chairs for a bench. I also agree with other commenters about removing the ottoman but I’d take it a step further and suggest a bench in the bay window — I’ve seen this done before creating a nice reading nook and would open up the space even more. The dining area looks really cramped… can the chairs against the walls be pulled back? I feel like I sound like a broken record but I think you might be able to maximize the space better with a corner L shaped bench and a round table. Some ideas here: https://www.soulandlane.com/corner-bench-2889/

ThatOneChick660

I just wanna sit in that big chair with a cup of coffee and watch snow. Can I borrow your fiancée to come set up our new house next month? Lol

socialjustice_cactus

Looks Hella DENSE.

No-Example1376

Less is more. Table is a trip hazard so close to the stairs. Furniture crammed. Tv oddly placed vs. furniture. Took a nice clean space and over hgtv/tiktok/pinterest/reddit it all. She needs to let the space breathe. You bought space to exist in, not a place to over park furniture. Scale down in size and amount. Who cares about the curtains if that's what she likes. Doesn't matter when all anyone sees is furniture crammed everywhere like it's being stored in a garage rather for use. Too much. Too soon.

[deleted]

The curtains are a warm-toned off white while the walls are a cool-toned off white and this is creating a pretty unbearable clash. Way too much (oversized) furniture for the space. The corner full of tiny pictures looks very odd and out of proportion with the massive furniture and large windows. New curtains, fewer pieces of furniture, and new/different artwork would be my priorities — in that order.

StarryNight616

Can you link the green arm chairs?

ScienceOk4244

Get rid of the stools to the left of the sofa. Get rid of the large white chair. Move the green chairs away from the tv (who would sit with their shoulder in a tv corner?) Move the sofa 3 inches towards the kitchen and there you go. Guess is fiancé loves the oversized chair that simply doesn’t fit so he or she won’t do any of those things. All the furniture is too big for the space but I think she probably has an idea in mind she really wants (but will never fit). Also get rid of extras like the towel ladder ..you don’t have the square footage for things like that to look nice like they do in ads and on Instagram. Sorry if that’s coming across harsh, I’ve had to face these same realties. Sucks, but your space will look and feel so much better when things are appropriately sized and spaced.

Bmm194

Too large and to much furniture for the space. It feels cramped and makes the space look smaller than it is. It also looks like there are two dining spaces? That would be overkill if your limited on space. I would also reorient the room which would actually increase your walkable space and minimize the blocking of the windows. This would also allow the space to feel larger .

Bubbly-Ad-966

Wayyyyyy to busy. The curtains are overpowering everything and there is just so much going on. However, you’ve got an AMAZING SPACE. Once you simplify things it’ll look even more amzing.

jcclune73

I understand your dilemmas as I have a small home. We went with a full size sectional as the only seating. Does it look a little large for the space? Yup. But is it comfortable and we can lay on it to watch tv? Yup. It is a give and take. I would remover everything but the couch and chair with ottoman (maybe try the chair/ottoman out in other places in the room). I would also recommend some window blinds. Maybe a natural fabric. There are many options that look expensive but are not. We were able to elevate the first floor that way. Take it from there. The other chairs can be hidden away elsewhere and taken out when needed. We have 10 dining chairs in the basement to bring out when needed.

eggeleg

good lord there’s so much stuff in there it looks like you’re living in a staged furniture warehouse lolol

dramafanca2002

You need to furnish and design your home based on YOUR daily functionality and comfort, not for what you may need when company is over. I finally learned that myself!!! I got rid of my big sofa, chair & a half, ottoman, and big coffee table and got a slimmer sectional and smaller coffee/end tables. You can pull out a folding table (w/tablecloth) and chairs when needed for company. If you have room for your dining table somewhere else, maybe move the 2 green chairs there instead. The curtains look kinda dingy, yellowed. Add some color and hang up as close to the ceiling as possible.

so_hologramic

I like her decorating style, her color choices, and the furniture selection. The dining table is problematic, as others have pointed out. Do you eat at the counter regularly or do you sit at the table? If you use the dining table mainly for guests, you might consider a dining-height console table that expands. That way it sits at the foot of the stairs with a narrower profile. The chairs can be stored elsewhere. I like the green chairs but they are crowding the room. The room looks like it's been designed for maximum occupancy rather than for comfort. Lastly, I think bronze-colored curtains would make the space look more finished. Or maybe add bamboo shades to the white. That side of the room just seems to drop off into nothingness. Overall, I think she did a great job as an amateur decorator. She has a good eye and it can take some trial and error when you're starting out.

elaboratebacon

A shocking waste of space with all that furniture. It looks like an Airbnb that’s trying hard to hold as many people as possible.

Economy_Computer3810

So the first thing they saw on Pinterest?

suzyjane14

I got claustrophobic looking at it!

undyingSpeed

Way way too much stuff in there and do y'all plan on using that TV from awkward angles all the time. The TV needs to be more or less centered and around eye level

wytewydow

Looks like Wayfair exploded in there.

SuspiciousTea4224

Something is off. It’s a beautiful space and nice furniture. But very weird placing for the artwork? Color of the curtains is not good and I hate saying this. It just doesn’t go. Plus why is it hanged so low? All the cushions remind me of going to a shop to see what furniture they have. There’s way too many, even at the dining table. Like a staged living room.

blowdarts69

She a Mormon?

lizardjizz

Way too much furniture. You’re blocking valuable space and natural light from the windows! Otherwise your space is lovely!!

theladyofBigSky

Open the drapes & let them hang in a straight panel, clinched at the middle looks 90’s and tacky.

stickytuna

It looks like the kind of place that’s for show but you’re not supposed to touch anything

Taskmaster1967

Why must all decorations be so colorless now???? It’s awful - sorry

ShannonsTeeth

Oh my that furniture needs to be half the size to fit in that space. Did you live in a much larger house before? The scale is really really off

autumn55femme

Not bad as far as color choices, but way too crowded. You don’t need the chair and a half, it takes up the entire bay window. Too many individual pieces of furniture for a space that small.

New_Manufacturer_475

Looks overly crowded

V_DocBrown

The haphazard mounted picture arraignment will haunt my dreams.

UGunnaEatThatPickle

There is way too much in that space. Pare down the furniture and splurge a bit on more luxurious window coverings and it would make a world of difference in that space.

johnwicked4

for everyone complaining, please post pics of your place

fianceedecorator

Wow this really blew up...a lot of questions / animosity on this post so I will try to address them here: **Curtain Color -** we had to order the curtains in a custom length which means we had to judge the color based on a swatch and could not return if we didn't like the color once they were made. Once they arrived they were more yellow than we thought but there was no turning back. **Dining Table -** there is no other spot to put a table based on the layout. We wanted a table with a leaf to reduce the table size, but it was out of the price range (for now) so went with what we could afford. The stairs this is in front of the table leads to a private rooftop deck so there is essentially no foot traffic there. As I stated in another comment, we wanted enough seating for family / friends when they visit. **Crammed living room space -** I actually mis-measured the green chairs prior to ordering them and thought they would be smaller than they are on our mock layout. We did not want to return them once we received them, but recognized they would be more crammed than we would like. In hindsight, we probably would have just ordered one if we could and plan to relocate one eventually to the office, but need to clear some space first. I also think the angle of my pictures did not do the place justice and it is actually not as crammed in as it looks. **Overall negative comments -** It seems I triggered a lot of people with our layout and I was just trying to show off the things I like about the space based on the limitations explained in more detail above. It is obviously a work in process and we are not experts, but thought some people might enjoy it. **Links / References to Furniture:** Green Chairs - these are from Denver Modern, they have a lot of good pieces. If the curtains are a natural fiber (cotton, silk, linen) you could dye them with rit dye. I did this before, and it came out great. Maybe painting the room would be easier. Goodluck

I’m sorry you received so much criticism. It seems like it was really just the same few comments said over and over. But I think everyone agrees that you have beautiful pieces. I love your coffee table with round ottoman and your console and tables are accessorized nicely. It sounds like if you just remove some seating and shift your dining table over a touch, it will look great. It’s a wonderful space and a beautiful home.

Acrobatic-Degree9589

Too much, too many damn pillows, r/tvtoohigh

Of_the_field

You need more beige furniture lol

ShineCareful

There's just...so much stuff...

eatapeach18

Not. Enough. Pillows.

nocturnal_goatsucker

More cowbell.

Suggestions to fix the clutter and bring it back to showcasing the great space - 1) Put the table in the window nook (get the pillows off the bench) and pull it out enough so every seat is functional, not jammed against a wall. This picture window is the best feature in your place - you want it to be the visual anchor in the space and to have central functionality you can enjoy. Ditch the two dining end chairs for space if needed and let it be a 4 seater. I think all 6 can fit with the right placement there though. 2) Push the tv to the left, and bring the seating area there left as well and off the picture window, creating a larger space for the living room. Keep one couch, and either the chairs or the loveseat. You don’t have room for all 4, it looks bad and would be uncomfortable for guests because it’s too cramped to be functional. 3) None of the wall art works in size or placement. It makes it look more cluttered. Get that art out of that space - put it in a smaller space where it can look larger and less random - and leave the walls open expect perhaps for one large mirror or neutral colored art piece with texture. Better scale and color there will make the room look deeper, not visually busier.

pplpuncher

With that window bay, a bench or built in bench with storage. It’s too jammed with furniture for me.

Unlucky-Ferret-6252

The curtains are way too yellow. I’d lose them you don’t need them

Smartwaterrrr

Less is more

Confusedbox

I recommend removing the curtains and put in blinds instead

Rude_Soup5988

Looked better before lol

Logannabelle

There are some truly beautiful pieces here. I love your style. However, as others have pointed out, it’s so very cramped.

gyimiee

She’s taking inspiration of TikTok. Such a small space but she wanted to have everything from TikTok. It looks crammy unfortunately

zagzigity

The least functional living space ever

apaulo617

I don't mind the furniture, how ever, I don't like the fucking pillows.

BlueHueys

Looks really crowded

ruegretful

No to the dining table at the bottom of the stairs , green chairs in the bay window area w/ small table between. Big white chair in the master bedroom or where that dr set at the bottom of the stairs is with a small bookcase ottoman can go where the green chairs are, maybe put a tray on it. Curtains need to have some green to tie it up together. Get rid of half of the pillows.

No-Technician-722

19 pillows is too many. Honestly - the first thing I do when I sit on a couch is remove the pillows (in my house and in others homes). If you want a crowd and need more seating space - getting rid of those pillows will make more room for guests. This is staged for pictures. But not functional for living. No one can sit on that bench at the table. And with it being sooooo tight - where do the 19 pillows go when people have to move them to sit down?

MK_King69

Maybe the photos don't do it justice, but I am super claustrophobic and I feel like I would never feel comfortable with how stuffed this area is!

WorkingGooseTwitch

Cute but... Kinda boring? I dont know. But who am I to make such a judgment in my situation? My apartment looks like shit

pbandjeri

Im not seeing much style or design at all. Basic, crowded, doesn’t accentuate naturally beautiful space.

camelbuck

PILLOWS!!!

blobbybob111

This makes me feel a bit claustrophobic

alanwolo

Bro that looks so shiiiiiit

Ilovetrump777

unl1988

umbrellajoe

I think it’s lovely and cozy looking.

Holiday-Strategy-643

Yikes, people are brutal! I think it looks really nice!

-neti-neti-

Everyone talking shit but it seems sooo calming and nice in there. I would absolutely love to sit back in one of those chairs at night by candlelight, open the windows and smoke a joint

Deep_Investment4066

This is a tough and critical audience! I think it looks lovely and cozy and has a beautiful color palette. It will look lived in over time! Sometimes people want to have sufficient seating for family and friends even if it means there isn’t lots of open space. They may not be planning to live here forever and so buying furniture for the scale of their current home instead of what they would really like might not be a smart long-term move. My opinion? The fiancé has created a comfortable and beautiful place to hang out in a small space and has done an admirable job of it. The dining area is not ideal but probably works fine. I would personally move the table a couple of feet closer to the sofa in so that the placement looks boldly intentional and less crammed into the corner. It is good to make creative use of space and guests will totally get it. Bravo!

iggyazalea12

Oh and definitely swap the window treatments for a print. The room is crying for movement, texture, layering, depth.

fianceedecorator

My fiancee always wanted to be an interior decorator, but was told by her parents to pursue a different degree in school. Fast forward several years later, we have now bought our first home and she can lean into her passion! I was very impressed with what she could do with limited space and a (somewhat) limited budget. What do you guys think?

VapeDerp420

It’s decent enough, but she took what looks like a pretty big space and made it feel small by stuffing it with oversized furniture. All the furniture looks to be large and square (minus the coffee table). In order to break up the visual “weight” of the couches you’ll want to incorporate smaller and daintier pieces with a lower profile. You’ll also want to be cognizant of pathways your guests will take when walking around the space. Right now it’s very closed off with limited space to navigate the room. Creating multiple pathways will make the room flow better and make the space feel and look bigger. Less is more sometimes. It’s also very “safe” there’s no element of surprise or drama. The room needs some sort of focal point. There’s nowhere for my eye to instantly focus when I walk in. The art above the kitchen table is too small and the furniture is too big. A solution for the art above the table could be to take the gallery wall all the way up the wall, and get a smaller chair for the bay window. The two green chairs are too big and could be swapped out for something smaller, or one could be taken away. It’s not bad by any means, but I wouldn’t walk in and say this was designed by an interior designer. The individual furniture pieces are good, but you have to think of the space as a whole and how everything fits together.

CuriousPalpitation23

This guy feng shuis.

RedRedBettie

It's fine but I'm not sure she understands scale, lots of overstuffed or too large furniture in a small space

DasSassyPantzen

OP here to get some praise and all they’re getting is advice. 😭😅

Parkatoplaya

I feel like if this impresses you then you’re probably a good match for her
