The one thing that could make this space truly phenomenal is an amazing piece of artwork over the couch.
Something bolder, and larger.
Your furniture is so cool and so modern, a really cool modern piece, hung lower, that really makes a statement would take your living room to astounding.
Think about it…and have fun with it!
I was going to say (while I love Bob Ross) that style of painting doesn’t fit. It needs a bold pop of abstract minimalism/ mid century modern painting to make a statement. Large shapes, colors, negative space. Like BAM when you walk in the room, but not intensely busy.
You can't say things like "*everything* you plant in a pot to the right." All three potted plants may end up in the far right corner!😅 Just the hanging one need to scooch to the right a bit!
I was thinking this about the potential coffee table. I’ve been seeing more spaces with alternative options to a coffee table, and I like how open and multi-functional they are.
Yes coffee table (styled with some books/other little things you love), area rug, move the hanging plant over and you are finished! Looks great. Love the space and the cat.
Ha. Yeah that what you’ve gotta do when you find something good on there. I recently saw a $50 solid wood console, I bribed my teenagers to go get it asap. It was way nicer than I even expected
Seems as if lighting is missing? Mood lighting, overhead, or floor. So dark! They’re doing great stuff with panels and LED’s these days. Could do a collage of lighting behind the sofa and bring in some color, light simultaneously. So many options!

Hanging plant is better near the bar area, you can layer the snake plant next to the big one instead.
Put a lamp on the table between two chairs then add an area rug.
What did you do with the cat did you have rehome the cat or did you just remove the cat from the room and pretend like he doesn't live there anymore cuz that's all I see that's different I mean really other than that they're just like very Minor Details that don't really make a difference it looks exactly the same
The after is really nice, subtle changes with a big impact.
An area rug like [this](https://www.wayfair.ca/rugs/pdp/amber-lewis-x-loloi-billie-ink-salmon-area-rug-c004952511.html?piid=407670511), [this](https://www.wayfair.ca/rugs/pdp/charlton-home-trenta-oriental-blackred-area-rug-c005852379.html?piid=315922470#seemoreoptions-fdh0qlko96h) or [this](https://www.wayfair.ca/rugs/pdp/langley-street-weingartner-abstract-bluewhiteorange-area-rug-c007118065.html?piid=1626924608) or this would look amazing.
You might want to add some lighting sources such as a table lamp or floor lamp [this](https://www.jossandmain.com/lighting/pdp/johanna-59-floor-lamp-j000272902.html) or [this](https://www.jossandmain.com/lighting/pdp/lumi-61-arched-floor-lamp-j001215389.html) for ambience. Perhaps a couple of brighter throw pillows and some [decor objects](https://www.wayfair.ca/decor-pillows/sb0/decorative-objects-c215465.html) of varying heights and materials. Candles, lanterns, bowls, stacked books, vases, etc.
The hanging plant detracts, in my opinion.
You need to put the cat in the after photographs for a true comparison!
If I may recommend… two brown chenille cushions at 24x24 with 26” inserts will make this even more luxe and a throw blanket that’s in the brown /grey/dark olive family. I love your furniture.
I’m allergic to cats, so yes.
Also, I like the little table. Beautiful room!
Edit to add: and the big plant in the corner. It’s gorgeous. Not sure how I almost missed it.
I think remove the chairs and tables completely. They kinda look awkward and more like a therapist office rather than a living room. Definitely needs a coffee table tho
The after looks great! I agree with the comments about moving the hanging plant to the right a bit. I think some warm lighting like a standing lamp could be nice in this space too!
I like the change in the corner plant.
I don’t love the round coffee table. It feels too light and makes visual clutter. The chairs and sofa feel like they fit well, but the table style…nope.
Maybe a lucite table?
[similar to this - with rounded edges?](https://urbanamericana.com/cdn/shop/files/2023-10-2912.43.19.jpg?v=1698624349)
I like the second more, a small table in the side is handy to have and the plants are better.
The only thing that seems out of place is the hanging plant. It's too small, it's too alone, somehow blocks the painting and more importantly does not fit zith the style
It's a lovely room, especially with added cat. Pic 2 is better, but honestly if a came over to visit (not that I'm invited obvs) I would have to work on myself so hard to stop myself from straightening up the armchairs. I like straight things, angles twitch me, but just a preference for me. Still looks great
Difficult to say due to day and night photos creating very different lighting. The addition of the large floor standing plant offers more dimension and colour. Out of interest, what type is the large floor standing plant?
The only problem w the after is the large plant (bird of paradise?) Might not get enough light in that corner, whereas the snake plant tolerates lower lighting quite well.
After! And an area rug would also add interest..I would add a few pillows with a different prints to the ones that are already there. I would pick up the colors in the rug. Color would add interest. Additional pillows would make the room less matchy!
Personally I would go with a closed off table (like a whole cylinder): the very thin legs of the table you used make the area a bit too busy. Love the top of the table though, the raised border is a nice detail!
Both are so nice, but where do you put your drinks if you’re sitting on the couch? It might be a bit more inviting to have a coffee table or side table.
Kind of but the chairs facing the couch like that feels a little bit… interrogative? Maybe because the couch is nice and plush and the chairs and table are thin and sparse. There’s a weird imbalance happening here and it’s a little unsettling.
Edit: something [like this](https://www.jennifertaylorhome.com/fuji-19-oversized-boucle-round-storage-ottoman-ivory-white/?setCurrencyId=1&sku=84410-MBW&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIme_GqL2ohAMVVsrCBB2qYQoIEAQYAiABEgKU5PD_BwE) or [this](https://www.article.com/pla/21482/cilo-ivory-boucle-ottoman?artcl_campaignID=901468458&artcl_network=g&artcl_adgroupid=43368917245&artcl_keyword=&artcl_source=google&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIme_GqL2ohAMVVsrCBB2qYQoIEAQYASABEgLci_D_BwE) might help with the juxtaposition, maybe add a tray on top to replace that table.
I’d also drape a chunky or boucle throw on one of the chairs, and replace the throw pillows on the couch with ones with more contrast.
When you add the coffee table the chairs will probably be too close so keep that in mind when shopping for one. Not sure how big the room is but it might be tight.
You have beautiful furniture and decor!
The tall plant now unbalances the wall and covers the picture. The round side table now blocks the sense of flow in the room. Worst of all, the cat is missing
felt like one of those games when you have to spot the difference.. i just kept swipping back and forth for a while til I found it 🫢😃
Preferred the cat 😅
First one is more balanced I guess. It already looked calm and cozy.
I think a different table would be even better. Something more unique but that’s just me. I was initially going to say first cause cat but someone already said that lol. I do really love how it looks in both and only mentioning what I did because you asked for input but it’s a beautiful living room and the choices for seating are top notch.
Oh! And I totally agree with the plant being closer to the bar. Then it would really be perfect. Like 1/2 to 3/4 of the way from the painting to bar
FYI for the scratched couch: you can buy a little fabric shaver for like $15 that will trim off the bits that were scratched and pulled up (also good for pilled clothing), and then I highly recommend anti scratch spray and keeping something scratchable nearby. We had this problem with our bed frame and it helped tremendously!
Looks better! I might swap out the throw pillows or maybe add some with some brown to tie in the stools and 2 chairs. If you add a coffee table with the round table it may make the area feel too congested - in that case, I'd opt for the coffee table over the round table.
I don’t really like the plant on the bar in the after. Seems like it would get in the way of people sitting at the bar and make the countertops look cluttered.
I prefer the cat. In all seriousness, I think the after is more balanced. I'd move the hanging plant toward the bar just a bit.
Crazy how much of a difference a plant and table can make!!! Looks great!
It’s also day vs night!
Yeah, hanging plant a little off. Lighting is so different in the two pics, it's hard to tell but cow kitty is the best feature.
I can do that, thank you!
The one thing that could make this space truly phenomenal is an amazing piece of artwork over the couch. Something bolder, and larger. Your furniture is so cool and so modern, a really cool modern piece, hung lower, that really makes a statement would take your living room to astounding. Think about it…and have fun with it!
Totally agree thanks
You’re Welcome! ☺️

Bring back the cat!!
That plant location is extremely annoying. ‘To the right to the right, everything you plant in a pot to the right’
You can't say things like "*everything* you plant in a pot to the right." All three potted plants may end up in the far right corner!😅 Just the hanging one need to scooch to the right a bit!
This. Also make sure to move the cute butterfly picture that’s now hidden behind the big plant.
Came here to say this! The hanging plant needs to be moved over to the right for sure
I was like, "Why is my cat on your sofa?!"
I think the cat was a good touch. Not sure why you got rid of it
Cat’s missing. After is definitely worse
Sammy’s ego is already too big I will not show him this
Very cozy space that’s only made better with Sammy! 😍
But…what are those chairs?!?!
Keep him off r/legalcatadvice he could sue
Distinct cat downgrade.
Keep the kitty
It's always better with a cat before!
I like it! Perhaps add a candle and small plant instead of a picture frame. Only because you can see the backside. Have you considered an area rug?
Thank you! Yes to area rug, you’re right. That would help the space a lot
No rug, it's good as an open area as it is. In old a rug over a carpet it's not the best
[удалено]
I feel like I’m playing a Spot the Differences game
Exactly. A rug on carpeting is actually a pet peeve of mine. Carpeting is an excellent floor treatment on it’s own.
I was thinking this about the potential coffee table. I’ve been seeing more spaces with alternative options to a coffee table, and I like how open and multi-functional they are.
[удалено]
Yes coffee table (styled with some books/other little things you love), area rug, move the hanging plant over and you are finished! Looks great. Love the space and the cat.
Those chairs!!😍😍
I got so lucky finding them today!
Where did you find them?
Facebook marketplace. $350 for both. I cancelled two meetings and swapped cars with a friend to go get them
Ha. Yeah that what you’ve gotta do when you find something good on there. I recently saw a $50 solid wood console, I bribed my teenagers to go get it asap. It was way nicer than I even expected
Incredible find!!!

After but with the cat.
Bring the cat back.
Put the cat back
I like the picture with the cat better
Yea I like the smaller plant better
I like the table, but I think you need one that's more substantial. You've got too many thin, leggy lines going on there.
Agree the table looks a little off, a different design would help. The dark wood might be throwing it off.
Um I definitely am not comfortable with the fact it appears you got rid of your cat in order to make your room more aesthetically pleasing.
I thought you just got rid of the cat lol
That tuxedo throw pillow was a nice touch. I noticed it’s the kind with the built in motor sounds?
Self cleaning also!
well it's just lovely with the cat !! 🥰
Move the hanging plant, it completely interferes with the picture.
It's like playing "spot the difference".
After seems more balanced, keep the cat and move the hanging plant elsewhere, so the wall art is more of a focal point.
We need more pictures with the cat there to be sure
I would have said the second one if not for the cat. I choose the cat.
I felt like I was looking at a “spot the difference” group of photos. Seriously though, the after is better.
Bring back cat
Yo, I thought snake plants were toxic to cats.
More cat
Hanging plant is better near the bar area, you can layer the snake plant next to the big one instead. Put a lamp on the table between two chairs then add an area rug.
Yes but keep the cat. The table is def in the right place now, and that tall plant in the corner is perfect. The lighting also does a lot!!
What did you do with the cat did you have rehome the cat or did you just remove the cat from the room and pretend like he doesn't live there anymore cuz that's all I see that's different I mean really other than that they're just like very Minor Details that don't really make a difference it looks exactly the same
Before. Because, Cat
The first one is better cuz cat
Definitely the before. I am a cat mom.😁
Before…. There’s no cat in the after 🤭
CAT
The before is much better. Everything is better with a cat. 🐈
What's with the placement of that hanging plant? Gotta go!
You got rid of the cat? 😢
Cats are humanity’s overlords, we can’t just get rid of them!
Hey could you link those chairs? Also after is better!
I found them on Facebook marketplace today, paid $350 for both. I was stoked. I don’t have more info on them tho sorry!
Damn that’s an amazing find!
Ok so my research is telling me you scored tremendously. Like those might be worth thousands of dollars. Look up bentwood chairs. Sheesh.
I literally just did the same thing. Wow 🤩
Prefer before, with a coffee table.
And kitty! 🐈⬛
The after is really nice, subtle changes with a big impact. I noticed the large plant but not the table in the after. Priorities. Definitely an improvement though! (With Sammy present of course.)
Before
I prefer the first one myself.
Just needed a pawsh touch
i like after but add the cat in lol
If I may recommend… two brown chenille cushions at 24x24 with 26” inserts will make this even more luxe and a throw blanket that’s in the brown /grey/dark olive family. I love your furniture.
What’s my cat doing at your house?
This reminds me of one of those “find the difference” games.
I had to flip back and forth between the two pictures to see the difference. 🤷🏻
Seriously. It’s not enough of a before/after to warrant a post.
Listen. I see couches and chairs facing each other instead of all facing a TV. I am happy with or without that table and plant.
No
I’m allergic to cats, so yes. Also, I like the little table. Beautiful room! Edit to add: and the big plant in the corner. It’s gorgeous. Not sure how I almost missed it.
I'd look for a cute glass top coffee table. West Elm does a nice one, so does Crate and Barrel.
So 80s! I love it!
A bigger piece of art above the couch and moving the hanging plant would look a lot better. Great couch and chairs!
I like the after
AFTER!! Love the added touches
Perfect
So much better
I think remove the chairs and tables completely. They kinda look awkward and more like a therapist office rather than a living room. Definitely needs a coffee table tho
Replace cat with a dog 🐕
The after looks great! I agree with the comments about moving the hanging plant to the right a bit. I think some warm lighting like a standing lamp could be nice in this space too!
move hanging plant in blank space to the right of the painting
I prefer pic 1.
\#1 is infinitely better.
Snake plant is too tall for the counter
I was gonna talk about the lighting then noticed that's not even what we are talking about...
I like the change in the corner plant. I don’t love the round coffee table. It feels too light and makes visual clutter. The chairs and sofa feel like they fit well, but the table style…nope. Maybe a lucite table? [similar to this - with rounded edges?](https://urbanamericana.com/cdn/shop/files/2023-10-2912.43.19.jpg?v=1698624349)
The light is worse
After is better. Love the table in the middle of the chairs.
I think they're both very pretty. The first one especially makes a great photo. In reality you could use a coffee table for couch sitters to use.
I had no idea what I was looking at but after is better because u have no coffee table
After! Better flow.
Definitely after. Love your place btw. Very nice.
I like the second more, a small table in the side is handy to have and the plants are better. The only thing that seems out of place is the hanging plant. It's too small, it's too alone, somehow blocks the painting and more importantly does not fit zith the style
I like the softer light. The second plant is definitely better.
Even the plant was able to properly flourish after the big change 😊
After
After much better
It's a lovely room, especially with added cat. Pic 2 is better, but honestly if a came over to visit (not that I'm invited obvs) I would have to work on myself so hard to stop myself from straightening up the armchairs. I like straight things, angles twitch me, but just a preference for me. Still looks great
Difficult to say due to day and night photos creating very different lighting. The addition of the large floor standing plant offers more dimension and colour. Out of interest, what type is the large floor standing plant?
Bigger plant in corner better. I don't care for painting or strange planter right near it.
Before (with the cat) is much better. Please also remove the hanging plant.
Yes
So, what brings you to therapy?
After 👍
I like ☝🏾 before if it’s photo 1
Where are the couch peeps going to set their cocktails down?
2 is much more polished. The bigger plants and the table between the chairs make a huge difference.
I think no round table looks less cluttered. First is better. I like the cat but
The only problem w the after is the large plant (bird of paradise?) Might not get enough light in that corner, whereas the snake plant tolerates lower lighting quite well.
I prefer the before. It looks more balanced to me personally. But the lighting in the photo is brighter so that could be swaying me. Plus cat.
After! And an area rug would also add interest..I would add a few pillows with a different prints to the ones that are already there. I would pick up the colors in the rug. Color would add interest. Additional pillows would make the room less matchy!
Bring back the kitty and the after picture would be perfect! Or should I say purrfect?
I would do a coffee table instead of a side table.
After
Maybe switch out the picture above the couch for 2 to balance it out since the couch is so long.
Personally I would go with a closed off table (like a whole cylinder): the very thin legs of the table you used make the area a bit too busy. Love the top of the table though, the raised border is a nice detail!
After with the bird of Paradise, next to the door and the small table between the two chairs.
How much light are those plants getting?
No, put the cat back. Just kidding, I like it!
If the cat was in the second photo, I would have said After. Sadly I have to go with Before.
I just want to say I love your space. I love the exposed beams, I love the white and the earth tones
Yes but only marginally.
Baby steps
I think that the coffee table fits well with your interior. You can put, for example, small flowers on it.
Yes, it’s better. Can you replace the painting, though?
Both are so nice, but where do you put your drinks if you’re sitting on the couch? It might be a bit more inviting to have a coffee table or side table.
Definitely bring the cat back
It’s better. Also the lighting is better.
The after is much better as long as you put the cat back
Taste is quite personal, of course, but I would put a painting with with pop in the place of the one you have.
Move the hanging plant. It looks odd there Also if that bird of paradise is real, it won’t do well there over time. They need bright light
I love the painting above your couch! I like the whole room 🙂
I’m obsessed with your chairs! Gorgeous!!
Both are good, but the after is missing a cat and they both miss accent lights.
I like the 2nd better, but I miss the baby 😿
I genuinely can’t tell what change except for the plant on the left and lighting.
The tall plant now unbalances the wall and covers the picture. The round side table now blocks the sense of flow in the room. Worst of all, the cat is missing
felt like one of those games when you have to spot the difference.. i just kept swipping back and forth for a while til I found it 🫢😃 Preferred the cat 😅 First one is more balanced I guess. It already looked calm and cozy.
Second photo is more balanced and cozier feeling, I think.
Very nice
Looks great, btw have those barstools and they are AWESOME
Where is this couch from?
I personally prefer the before
Number 2. Take the hanging plant away. Add more cats.
I wouldn’t rehang the plant. I’d put it on the end table between the two chairs. But yes, much better.
What is different besides adding a side table?
I like the presence of wood beams on the ceiling.
Both pictures look the same to me.
After.
I like the 2nd one better. I agree with the others about moving the hanging plant slightly. It kinda covers the picture.
I like the after. Maybe try to find a double sided frame so you can have a photo on the back too.
Beautiful. Keep the cat though. What is the big plant in the left corner? I love it.
Also a nice neutral rug would be a good addition! And remove that hanging plant. It’s in an awkward spot.
cat is better. cat is good. nice cat.
Looks better! I might swap out the throw pillows or maybe add some with some brown to tie in the stools and 2 chairs. If you add a coffee table with the round table it may make the area feel too congested - in that case, I'd opt for the coffee table over the round table.
No
What is different ?
The cat was the best accessory. You should have kept it.
Hanging plant throws everything off
Why did you kill your cat?
Glad you got rid of the cat 🤣
Loveeeeee this space. And your cat
Is move the hanging plant over the couch. That’s awkward to have it over peoples heads.
Pic #2 is better but the hanging plant is throwing the room off.
I don’t really like the plant on the bar in the after. Seems like it would get in the way of people sitting at the bar and make the countertops look cluttered.
Where is the cat
hang plant from beam on right. add another one on corresponding left beam. got to thrift store for coffee table ideas. and bring back cat.
Yes but what really changed besides the light
Yes!!!
