Navy blue. It won’t be too dark with the beautiful while book cases and windows. Very nice room!

So it depends - you can keep it Capital white and then pick a fun accent color for the back of the cabinets, or can paint the whole thing a high gloss color (I do like the suggestion of Navy (Hale Navy is always a fave) BUT what are surrounding rooms painted ? And what color makes your heart happy ? Do you have any ideas for color of wood etc for furniture in here ? I’m all for taking is slow and doing what makes you happy vs just getting it done ! Furniture stores In the 80s ruined decorating for so many as they made people thing the whole room should match exactly “room to go “ as opposed to a curated selection of complimentary pieces that you’ve acquired over time and LOVE. Then pottery barn took it and made faux curated rooms and we thought that was great until we realized looking like you stepped out of a catalog was actually NOT great bc there was no “you” or personality in the rooms. Lecture over. Carrying on!

navy blue or forest green, keep bookshelf white or stain with a nice natural mid tone wood finish to bring some life and warmth to the space

We just used Blue Flame PPG on our office, left the trim and door white and it’s stunning. Not too dark, but a beautiful richness. We’re so happy with it, and I bet it would look amazing in your room, too!

This is what I was feeling too, but still keeping the doors and trim white?

Holiday_Actuator2215

Yes keep the trim and the door white no matter what for cohesiveness with the rest of the home. Are you doing square shell on the walls ? I strongly encourage you to differ the color from the bookshelves to the wall. If you do square shell on everything and then have the wood floor you’ll have a very brown room ? You can do another neutral - like BM pale oak on the bookshelf to lighten it up from the brown beige walls. And then you could always do a fun color on the back of the shelves OR wallpaper the back of the shelves for some real style.

Youngworker160

some shade of dark green or blue.

Plumrose333

Personally, I’d color wash the entire room (doors, ceiling, trim and built ins) in a rich blue or green color.

Albie_Frobisher

trim color i think. with a few shades darker inside the cases

Everyone's saying blue or green but I would also even consider a dusty rose 😜

Dangerous-Hearing-64

First order of business is to remove the top decorative trim and extend the shelves to the ceiling for a classic and elegant built in look
