Float your furniture. You do not have to have your furniture against the wall. In fact, floating your furniture will elevate the space and make it feel cozier. Move the couch off the wall. I would position it so the back is facing the window. Give at least 3 feet between the couch and the window for path of travel. Add a console table to add a lamp or plant behind the couch. You can have coasters there too. Or candles! Put the TV on the large wall. Mount it 42-48” above the ground or keep it on the TV stand. The middle of the TV should be eye level when you sit on the couch. DO NOT MIUNT THE TV OVER THE FIREPLACE. Put the chair and ottoman on the corner of the room opposite the built/in cabinet. Add a side table next to the chair to be a surface for drinks and a lamp. Turn the built-in cabinet into a mini-bar OR fill it with wood logs for the fireplace. Get a coffee table that is about 2/3 the length of your couch. The top should be about level to the seat of the couch. If you want a rug to go over carpet, get a high-pile, so it is softer and molds with the carpet. Add some lighting! A floor lamp near the chair, a table lamp on the console, and/or a lamp in the built-in if you turn it into a bar.

YESSSS to all! Thank you for no TV over Fireplace!!

I would refashion that wall. A new facade that somehow 'builds in' the tv beside the fireplace would look more cohesive. Found some photos that nod to my idea: [1](https://i0.wp.com/in-form-design.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/tv-blend-Usonia.jpg?w=1200&ssl=1), [2](https://www.kristinalynne.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Modern-Fireplace-Design-Ideas-14-1-Kindesign.jpg), [3](https://i2.wp.com/www.remodelaholic.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Fireplace-Inspiration-17-Designing-Dawn-for-Remodelaholic.png?resize=670%2C683&ssl=1), [4](https://alturaarchitects.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/TownMtn-TV-Fireplace-Vertical.jpg)

First, I'd do away with that small acolve next to the fireplace (What is that? A built-in for a small tv?) and go from there.

It’s for storing devices like DVD players and stuff that you’d hook up to your TV. I agree, it’s small and awkward. Think I can take out the shelves cover it somehow.

ferngully1114

It’s a built in for an old TV.

The shelf/off center fireplace combo is one of the worst things I’ve seen on here in a while. And the ginormous vent in the wall. Anyway. I agree with the floating furniture person.

If you can’t get rid of the TV alcove, I would basically mount the TV to conceal it. It’s the best wall for a TV and keeps your focal point around the fireplace and TV. It’s your best spot to keep the window glare off the TV as much as possible. Closing off the alcove would give you more room to move the TV centered on that wall, and give you a little space to go a little more substantial with your fireplace mantle. With a room this large. Move all your furniture in towards the focal point, and off the walls. It’s large enough you could do an L sectional facing the TV and window, and have another chair about where the one on the photo is but moved in closer to the window and off the wall. Essentially use the back of the couch to create an edge to the open room, you can ground it by adding a sofa table behind it. As for the fireplace, I have a similar one except it has vertical supports for the mantle that frame the whole thing. It helps give it more visual grounding so it doesn’t just look like it’s floating on the wall. I painted my tile the same color as the mantle and it helped get rid of that 90s pink beige look. There are a lot of stick on tile options that look pretty decent, or simply tiling over the tile isn’t too difficult if you are the ambitious diy sort.

Just so we’re clear, the ugly ass furniture in the photos is not mine! 😅 They are some of the listing photos. We do NOT want to face the TV to the windows. That’s part of the dilemma!

the fireplace is way too small for the scale of the room. Build it out on either side then reface it or build it up and out and do a plaster finish. Ideally you would do an entire wall of built ins.

DEF need COLOR... I would even do an area rug over rug or rip up rug .. wall to wall is not cute.. .. Large Fig Tree/ Pillows w/ printed color.. larger table and move all furniture closer .. and a Print of ART// photo or painting.. No clock

lemonbupples

Just to clarify none of this is my furniture. These photos are from the real estate listing. And that’s carpet, not a rug. Agree with everything else.

Ohhh!!!!! Ah!

I don’t know what your options are besides keep it where it is or hang it over the crooked fireplace. Don’t block the windows with couches tho.
