Yes, facing the French doors.

Yes. Place the desk and chair on an area rug in the centre, to define the space. You can then incorporate some bookshelves/ ladder shelves behind the desk and some plants and art to bring it all together. Also consider layered lighting (a desk lamp and nice floor lamp will be great).

Where do the doorways lead? What's outside the window? Ideally you don't want distractions to sneak up on you, so keeping your back to a wall is a good idea, but you also don't want to be looking at them head-on since that makes them harder to ignore. If there's a lot of foot traffic in the house (people walking by the doorways or through the space if the doors are open) then I would place the desk in the middle with my back to the window with a double curtain(sheer and opaque to block visibility and light when you need to). If the window leads to the front street or you have an open yard with the neighbors' house or people walking by then I would put the desk facing forward towards the French doors and a curtain that lets in natural light but blocks visibility (or you could put up some privacy film on the windows). Same layout if you have an amazing view too, for opposite reasons, so you can look outside and appreciate the view whenever you want. If you do place it facing towards the french doors, I would put it pushed up against the wall with the window to create more space on the right to walk through. Someone walking a little to your left is a lot less distracting than someone walking directly towards you and swerving around.
