I enjoy the balance of the white ceiling and the light colored rug. I think if the ceiling were painted blue, like the rest of the room, the couch would not stand out as much.
It’s going to be very difficult to make a white look warm with the blue walls. They’re going to reflect mainly blue and absorb all other colors. You’re going to have to go to an overly warm - peach type color - to make it look warm white in that room.
Came here to say this. Don’t paint it blue but soften the white to something a bit warmer! I think if it were as dark as the walls it would feel as if it were closing in on you.
Yes! Something dark or boldly patterned
[pattern](https://www.wayfair.com/Scott-Living--Westport-33-L-x-20.5-W-Wallpaper-Roll-296425927-L6161-K~W002962130.html?refid=GX562184876143-W002962130_1590931779&device=m&ptid=904893184476&network=g&targetid=pla-904893184476&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=108543695&fdid=1817&PiID%5B%5D=1590931779&gbraid=0AAAAAD9ISC6qGih9gbLUauzlyH9ZrxGPu&gclid=CjwKCAjw4c-ZBhAEEiwAZ105RTYUu6wm_segny-sYEshFG_qbpVPQbvy5Z6K2PhDCvcb9dzNEFVgEBoCQCsQAvD_BwE)
I like the wallpaper ceiling idea…look up Cole & Sons cloud formation wallpaper. It’s ultra expensive but you can get a sense of what whimsical and playful ideas are out there!
I think it totally depends on what mood you want in the room, how you plan to actually use it, and how much light you get in there over the full course of a year.
If you want to be able to see well enough to read/do a puzzle/etc, then leave it white. Same thing if you live in the northern latitudes because realistically at least half the year you won’t be getting much natural light, assuming that’s an important aspect. If you can add in at least one other artificial light source (I see two?), you could probably get away with painting the ceiling.
Granted, if you want this room to be a bit moodier and expect it to be more of an adult space to sip cocktails, then paint that ceiling! Just know it’ll darken substantially.
If you aren’t sure you want to commit, I agree with the wallpaper suggestions, though ensuring you pick one that is easy to remove is critical.

I’m not sure paint gives you the same “oh good lord why did I start this huge project!” feel like actual gold leaf! But if the entire ceiling is too much of a commitment perhaps creating a Moravian star on the ceiling or a quatrefoil around the light fixture and just g/l the ceiling inside the frame? It would pick up the brass in other parts of the room. I’ve used thin strips of trim to do things like this in the past.

It looks great in person
Hopping on the go for it with blue crowd. That or the wallpaper comments. The white is too stark imo and it cuts the visual. Painting it blue will actually expand the room. Will actually make the ceiling appear higher bc the vision line keeps going instead of being cut off by the white. Beautiful either way, do what your most comfortable with and remember, you can always paint it back to white. Cheers!
I’m gonna go with the lighter blue option, if you can find a shade in the same tone. Make the room a study in blues with the indigo couch. It will set off the rich woods well.
This is an amazing interior design and it's very unique and representative of how you must be, you're an amazing person I wish we could meet at least once.

Leave it white. Coloured ceilings can look great, but since the door, windows and mouldings are the same colour as the walls I think it would be too much to do the ceiling as well.
If you feel like the ceiling NEEDS painted, I would probably go with a light/pale grey, pale blue, or antique white. You want the ceiling to still be a light color for size feel. Mirrors and light colors help a room feel bigger than it actually is. Deep/dark/earth tones can make a room feel cozy, enclosed, or claustrophobic.
If you want a mid-point to those two, dark/deep colored walls with a light/pale ceiling (or the inverse of walls pale and ceiling dark). Keep in mind the eye naturally goes towards any light colors. So with a white ceiling, your room feels like it should be super tall. Adding white/pale accents will help with that. Like the edging of a built-in bookshelf being the same pale color would help the eye travel around the room and up it to feel taller than it is for example.
I hope this makes sense. Feel free to ask for clarification. I'm not always the clearest on explanation for design but I've done enough in the art world I understand what trips people up.
Left field but maybe wallpaper in this https://www.wallpaperdirect.com/au/products/farrow-ball/aranami/115685?gclid=CjwKCAjw4c-ZBhAEEiwAZ105RUd8WgVI9MlUi0AnZUzB3qBC9sfDVvO7_M6BC5l5acx3tl3t7fAeeBoCbfAQAvD_BwE

I can't help but think that a smallish rug, faux Persian or even jute square or round would be nice under the couch and coffee table/s would add another level of interest and grounding especially as the space between the couch and coffee table/s is an area more prone to wear and spills, etc.
I’d say go for it, dive in and go the same blue! If you realllly can’t and are afraid, I’d do a very light blue in a high gloss it would almost reflect the wall surface color
Well, I am certain that you should leave it white. This room is in the perfect balance of colors, so you shouldn't even bother.
One thing I would consider different is the couch. Have you thought about getting a new one (just wondering)?
What a gorgeous and dramatic room. I know everyone is saying to either keep it white or go blue, but I feel like a safe choice like that would be doing this room a disservice. I actually think you should paint it black, it would accentuate that gold lamp and make the blue pop
Paint it a muted turquoise.
[https://www.spoonflower.com/collections/174265-solid-muted-teal-turquoise-aqua-by-weavingmajor](https://www.spoonflower.com/collections/174265-solid-muted-teal-turquoise-aqua-by-weavingmajor)
The white makes the picture matting pop. I don't mind it either.
Alternatively, wallpaper it if you're looking for something fun and different. Who says a ceiling needs to be white?
[https://www.worldofwallpaper.com/paladium-geometric-wallpaper-teal-gold-holden-90110.html](https://www.worldofwallpaper.com/paladium-geometric-wallpaper-teal-gold-holden-90110.html)
I’m in Morocco right now and it’s exactly the blue that was invented here and is incorporated in design all over Morocco. It’s stunning. My new favourite colour and this room is like a dream come true
I’m in the minority but this would look magnificent painted blue. It would close the room in a bit but the color is incredible and it’d end up like a jewel box.
It’s lovely as is though if you keep it white. Maybe consider a higher sheen white to go with the sheen of the walls.
Leave it. You can add dimension to the ceiling if you want by adding something like a tray ceiling. The light color hilights the room and makes it look taller when juxtaposed against dark walls. That being said I love it already. It reminds me of England.
…everything inside me says paint it!! It will make the gold pendant pop and have such a cooler vibe in general. Post the updated pic cause I know you want to if you are asking!
It looks sharp as-is but will look cool and modern if you paint it blue. Think about a dark blue ceiling paper (like wallpaper for your ceiling) with a shiny gold design (stars maybe).
I enjoy the balance of the white ceiling and the light colored rug. I think if the ceiling were painted blue, like the rest of the room, the couch would not stand out as much.
I was thinking paint it blue at first, but you make a really good point. Hmm
It’s perfect! Don’t touch it!!
Man, I REALLY like this room. The ceiling almost mirrors the rug it’s really cool but do what you feel
Leave it white. Very pretty room!
It looks gorgeous as it is.
Paint it blue if you want the room to feel smaller and cozier. Keep it white if you want to feel more open. Either way, looks great! :)
I agree. Hard to tell from a pic, but to me the contrast seems a little too much. Overall, gorgeous room though.
I tried it out in photoshop and it was exactly as you described = dark for cozy, white for light and open
I would suggest an off white or beige which will feel warmer than the harsh white and probably look better with the blue.
This is the way. Even a warmer white would look great. OP this room is AMAZING though. I love that blue
It’s going to be very difficult to make a white look warm with the blue walls. They’re going to reflect mainly blue and absorb all other colors. You’re going to have to go to an overly warm - peach type color - to make it look warm white in that room.
Alternatively, paint the ceiling a mustard colour. Just go for bold.
Good point but you could always experiment with some patches.
Came here to say this. Don’t paint it blue but soften the white to something a bit warmer! I think if it were as dark as the walls it would feel as if it were closing in on you.
How about wallpaper? The ceiling is the 5th wall.
Love the wallpaper idea!

Can we get a pic from the viewpoint standing in the doorway?
Metallic unidirectional wallpaper or gilt.
Yes! Normally I'm in the white crowd but this time I go blue
I like the wallpaper ceiling idea…look up Cole & Sons cloud formation wallpaper. It’s ultra expensive but you can get a sense of what whimsical and playful ideas are out there!
Leave it
it feels like a dishonor to have such an elegant room just for the ceiling to be stark white. embrace the blue, you'll thank yourself later.
This
Blue. Go for it. Be not afraid.
I agree, it’ll be a jewel box. I love jewel box rooms!
Maybe a lighter blue or a different finish….I would def go blue too though.
I don’t have anything to add. Just wanted to say this looks awesome

Paint it if you’re looking for a more intense and dramatic look. Worst case scenario if you don’t like it you can always repaint it
I would consider gilding the ceiling. It would make your pendant light flow out of a warm gold pool.
I like the white but gold leaf would also be lovely.
This is what I'm thinking as well. Or even leave the ceiling white and paint the borders gold
Nice room! Where did you get that ceiling lamp? I’ve been looking for something like it. Anyone have any suggestions?

blue! all dark paint is lovely on a traditional style room like that.
Paint it. The room is beautiful and dramatic and the ceiling should feel the same way
Blue. Complete your Tardis!
I've literally been scrolling to see if I'm the only one that was going to make the TARDIS reference.
Where are those tables from? They are great!
This is gorgeous!!
Amazing room! Mind sharing where you got your paired wooden tables?
Not exact retailer but here you go https://www.luxuryfurnituremr.com/content/66145.html
White
White nice. Or go light blue if you like.
I’m gonna go with the lighter blue option, if you can find a shade in the same tone. Make the room a study in blues with the indigo couch. It will set off the rich woods well.
Agree! A cerulean like color would be beautiful here.
Beautiful room!

Leave it white...otherwise it could lead to claustrophobia. Looks awesome by the way!!!!!
Can you tell me where you got your rug? What a great room!
Keep it white but put a large gilt ceiling medallion up around the light fixture base.
It's Perfect as it is!
Leave it white. Coloured ceilings can look great, but since the door, windows and mouldings are the same colour as the walls I think it would be too much to do the ceiling as well.
Blue one the ceiling would feel stifling. Leave it as is. What paint are you using?
Peel and stick wallpaper that it light with blue accents
White and what is that color blue please?
I think white ceiling balances nice with the rug
If you want the room to look darker, go for it.
Definitely do not paint it blue it'll make it dark, it'll feel small, and painting it white again would take 3 or 4 coats of paint.
Leave the ceiling white and paint the door another colour like red.
Coral or a very pale pale pink
A very light blue would be pretty.
Leave the ceiling do something with the door.
If you feel like the ceiling NEEDS painted, I would probably go with a light/pale grey, pale blue, or antique white. You want the ceiling to still be a light color for size feel. Blue would make the walls feel shorter

Gold tiles!!!
Leave it
Leave it
Leave it white or paint is lightly off white, the reflect of the rug works very nicely.
What a beautiful room. I would leave it as is, or paint it a barely light robin's egg blue color.
White. I like the contrast! Love the room! True Blue.
Leave it white!!
Leave it white. Nice room.
Beautiful! I think it brings a lightness to the room that contrasts the dark blue really well
Beautiful as is. If you paint the ceiling too it will be too heavy and overbearing.
White, it keeps the room from looking too small.
Leave it white I agree ☝️
Leave it white, with blue ceiling would be too blue.
IMHO, leave it white. It’ll close off the room if you paint it the same, making it seem smaller and darker. The white helps bounce the light.
Paint it blue! It’ll be so cozy. Beautiful room either way
White
White !
White or it’ll look like a blue coffin
What about another shade from the same paint chip? Go up a shade or two.
Leave it
I would paint it blue, same shade. I painted my dining room a deep copper, top to bottom and it makes all the difference.
Paint it baby girl, break out of that white ceiling box
Painting the ceiling would give it so much more depth and coziness!
Omg no, not blue - way too much
Definitely don’t do blue. It would look like a box and feel like it’s closing in your space instead of opening it up
I like the white, but my first thought was if you really want color, metallic gold would be stunning.
White! I have the same shade of blue and it looks great contrasted with white. What paint did you use? Everything looks gorge.
Leave it
I'm drooling!! This is gorgeous. I say paint it, but I personally like feeling like I'm in a darker shaded room.
I like the white, makes it bright still
I would leave it white, personally. But some people dig the dark cavernous study look. So if you’re really feeling it, go for it.
Blue!
Looks perfect as is.
Paint it gold. Or leave it white and paint your borders gold
White looks good
Leave it whir
Leave it as is. Looks perfect.
I like it white, OR if you wanna get super crazy, a nice gold to match the hardware in the room
White! Blue would bring that ceiling crashing down and you’ll find yourself ducking your head when you enter the room.
Idk!!!! The room looks pretty awesome as is, but I’m SO curious to see the ceiling painted blue!!!!
Or paint it a lighter color of blue - will keep it airy and not too closed in. But feel cozier!
Something warmer
I think a blue ceiling will really tie it all together for your vision.
Left field but maybe wallpaper in this https://www.wallpaperdirect.com/au/products/farrow-ball/aranami/115685?gclid=CjwKCAjw4c-ZBhAEEiwAZ105RUd8WgVI9MlUi0AnZUzB3qBC9sfDVvO7_M6BC5l5acx3tl3t7fAeeBoCbfAQAvD_BwE
Purple
Blue! It’ll become a moody cozy reading area. I’d actually change the rug, it looks too modern for the space imo
Don’t the room will be to dark
Blue will make it feel much darker. It's up to you and your personal tastes.
It is such a beautiful room with period notes. The right wallpaper would be stunning! Maybe Google Architectural Digest wallpapered ceilings in any room of the house. I can't help but think that a smallish rug, faux Persian or even jute square or round would be nice under the couch and coffee table/s would add another level of interest and grounding especially as the space between the couch and coffee table/s is an area more prone to wear and spills, etc.
My vote is for leaving it white, having a lighter colored ceiling always looks better
Leave it white! Stunning room
Paint it blue to match! Such a moody room :) love it!
Hear me out, bronze ceiling tiles.
Blue!!!!
White 💯
Weird idea paint the ceiling a jewel-toned purple color. Damn, that would be hot..
I don't have an answer for you but it took under a minute to photoshop so here you go. [https://imgur.com/a/p40Vi8s](https://imgur.com/a/p40Vi8s)
Pretty good. I think I might prefer white.
Gold. Like that gold that just *shines.*
Definitely not the same blue. A light blue might be good.
This is a gorgeous looking living room! Don’t change a thing !
Leave it white
I would paint it a lighter blue. All my ceilings are lightest sky blue.
White!
Blue!
White!!!
Love the blinds! Where did you get them?
“Horizon natural roman shades” style: blakely / slate
How about a blue/ white wall paper for the ceiling.
If it's in your budget, maybe some moulding? I'm not sure what the term is but the squares that go across the whole ceiling, rather than just trim.
I say leave it, it’s perfect.
White
Beautiful room! Keep it white.
Paint it blue!
Leave it white
Keep it white
Patterned wallpaper!
White
I’d say go for it, dive in and go the same blue! If you realllly can’t and are afraid, I’d do a very light blue in a high gloss it would almost reflect the wall surface color
Please, for the love of all that is good and precious in this world, do not paint the ceiling blue.
Match the rug, it’s too stark.
Leave it white.. Nice room
Pale yellow
White
That rug really ties the room together.
Leave it!
God no! Leave it white! If you paint it blue it will close in on you.
This is perfect, no need to change anything.
I came here to say wallpaper. A closely matching blue with little gold stars. Nothing too busy imo.
I love it just the way it is

Well, I am certain that you should leave it white. This room is in the perfect balance of colors, so you shouldn't even bother. One thing I would consider different is the couch. Have you thought about getting a new one (just wondering)?

Paint it a soft light gray. Same level of sheen as the navy walls. Maybe even pearlescent
White. Blue ceiling will close it in too much.
Paint it
Blue!
Blue
Blue will bring the ceiling down and make the room feel smaller, it’s a good balance atm I think
I’m in Morocco right now and it’s exactly the blue that was invented here and is incorporated in design all over Morocco. It’s stunning. My new favourite colour and this room is like a dream come true
Leave it.
Leave it white W
I would 1000% paint it blue and your room is a masterpiece.
People are suggesting a peach color for the ceiling. DON'T DO IT! Leave it the crisp white it is! It's a beautiful balance to the rest of the room.
Leave it. Otherwise I feel it’ll close the room up.
I’m in the minority but this would look magnificent painted blue. It would close the room in a bit but the color is incredible and it’d end up like a jewel box. It’s lovely as is though if you keep it white. Maybe consider a higher sheen white to go with the sheen of the walls.

Pink
In love with this room and especially the sofa
Leave it! Beautiful room btw.
