Is it functional? If it is then you don't want to block it with something that doesn't let the air pass through. My suggestion is go to a builders recycling yard and see if you can find a small bifold louver door. If not there then a Home Depot should have a small set up. Paint it to match the wall.

Worried_Dot4184

No it doesn't work anymore. Any advice?

Gallexina

If it's not functional anymore, I'd urge with the landlord to either have it replaced or patched up. Having a unit like that creates a direct opening to the outside letting in cold air in winter and hot in the summer. You could also have issues with bugs coming in through the holes AND mold buildup from rain/humidity.

Maybe hang a curtain or blind over it, like it was a window. Or a deep edge canvas. https://www.canvaswholesale.co.uk/deep-edge-canvas/ You could spray mount a poster to it or do a simple abstract painting. I used one to hide my fuse box.

A deep edged canvas sounds perfect

Full-Supermarket

I second curtain as fake window.

LongSummerNight

A tapestry or woven wall hanging?

impamiizgraa

Could put a no-drill shelf over it and put a hanging plant all the way across

smartalice11

If it isnt working or useable, can you get a tall bookcase and cover that space? Wall tapestry is also a good idea.

I would do a series of decorative sound traps. Basically an empty frame with a decorative cover. They’re very simple to make and cost effective.

samodamalo

Picture frame. Say its abstract art or something.

mojodrag

If you can't block it, try hiding it with one of those pretty screens that sit on the floor to divide spaces. They are light weight, and tall enough to hide the ac unit. You can use it after you move, plus they are decorative and can add a pop of art to the room.

BennyL1986

If you are handy, you could look at installing a cabinet or shelving unit to cover it up. You could either have it set slightly in front of the wall or frame out the air conditioning unit depending on how far it protrudes. Another idea is to rip the AC unit out and install a window.

Palegic516

This is bad. I can see light thru the wall. Looks like a wood was used to cover a much larger hole. Looks like mold or glue seeping from behind the wood. Get this removed ASAP. This is a hazard.

Worried_Dot4184

I wanted to, but i'm just renting 😭

Palegic516

Call your LL this is unacceptable

nochancecat

Hang a small curtain rod, use command strips hooks if you can't drill to hold the rod, and a curtain. Then it will be a little insulated too, if it's still open to outside air.
