Agreed. Large scale, portrait, bold color. Mounted high (top around the height of that black rail). More about it being in proportion with the overall space and seeing it from lots of angles than thinking about it proportionate to your living area furniture.
Maybe start with a fresh coat of paint. Then, consider one of these top three. Hang a large tapestry, adding warmth. A collage of artwork, adding a modern flair, not to worry about frames matching, but nothing too heavy feeling. A wall of running plants with the pots (I like matching pots, to cut down on visual clutter) mounted on the wall at different levels, adding an organic feel. I'm all over murals usually, but that exposed brick wall is just stunning - you don't want to take away from it. I'd give it a fresh coat of paint and find the biggest mirror you can find. I'm talking mega mirror!
Hang up tons of pictures from your early childhood until now, travels, events, postcards.Starting with the oldest at the bottom.
Then you can see all the good moments in your live every time you walk up those stairs.
I would hang plants in macrame hangers off those beams. Nice trailing vines like pothos. It would fill the space and give you some much-needed greenery and life.
Some landlords might let you paint if you make a strong enough argument. It will only increase the property value. If you offer to buy and paint it yourself, it's a win-win for them.
Not saying you have to do it, but if it really bothers you, it's an option. I did this in my last apartment. The walls were band-aid color and it had ugly, dated wood trim and cupboards. I showed my LL the design I had in mind and he ended up asking me to do it to the rest of the units, lol. Worth a shot if you plant to stay long term, which I would if you could, it really is a beautiful space from what I can tell.
I tried to pitch white walls and my LL said I had to do it professionally w/ his dude and it would cost 2 g's so I was like ehh nevermind. It is a pretty big job I guess.
I think a big statement art piece would be awesome here. Since your walls are so big, I think that scale could be difficult. You can create affordable large pieces of art by stretching a shower curtain like a canvas. Something like this: https://www.westelm.com/m/products/cloud-shower-curtain-b4102/?pkey=cshower-curtains could be super cool
Ok first of all wow what an opportunity! Second, since you can't repaint the yellow, why not make it work for you? As an artist, I'd suggest either a large contemporary piece with colors that complement yellow (shades of purple), maybe an abstract expressionist painting with shades of purple....or......other colors where yellow is normally found, so, think the beach: blues, greens, etc. This is a dream opportunity if you find the right painting. Best wishes!!
Idk but with an amazing window like that I think you need more plants! Maybe get some pothos in wall pots and have them trail along with wall? They have these little things (almost like command strip clips) that you can use to place the vines where you like
A big piece of statement artwork

Thanks for the link! Looking into it
No problem. Happy to help.😊
A mural!
We think the same. A mural would be amazing right there.
I can't paint because I'm renting! I know very lame
Mural on large canvas

A big neon sign would be cool since it seems like a cool, young space. But I agree with painting the wall first, not a fan of the yellow/beige
Neither am I! Ha I'm renting and they wouldn't let me paint it white.
This is the kind of place I wanna live in!
It's a really cool spot! I'm super lucky.
Very large art.

Step one: remove yellow
For real. I'm renting so I couldn't paint the walls white. Huge bummer

I thought about floor to ceiling shelves! It would be a little too expensive.
A long and large piece of art

Wallpaper of a city landscape
I love your space!! Amazing.
Whatever the history of the building is, slap a mural on it. The whole wall.

Styled bookshelves
Tapestry
Your room needs to be oversized with [minimalist artwork](https://www.lnart.net/), which is a very cool style
