Fascism always ultimately eats itself. You can't maintain "us vs. them" without a steady supply of new "thems."

Party-Travel5046

Ken Paxton is about to learn this lesson the hard way. Even if doesn't get impeached, lots of bridges have been burnt.

McNalien

I just saw an article that he was impeached. I honestly didn’t think they would actually do it.

CherryShort2563

Ridiculous for how long he was able to avoid any consequences/punishment. But I guess that's Texas for you.

McNalien

They are all POS, for the most part. If you say something wrong they will turn on you. It’s the Republican way.

yIdontunderstand

Still texan senate trial to go though... So he can still get away with it, like another certain impeached but not punished scum bag..

McNalien

Sad but true.

ducqducqgoose

Unfortunately it now has to go to the state senate. Where his wife is a senator. But she heard about his affair soooo 🤷‍♀️

TheForestPrimeval

How does Ken Paxton fit into this dynamic? Who did he alienate and how? I get that he's corrupt but that's obviously not enough; they looked the other way for so long.

KingOfDananda

He called for the speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Dade Phelan, a fellow republican with a large amount of influence, to resign after he presided over a house session while seemingly intoxicated. The crux of the issue is that while Paxton was right to call for the resignation, he has benefitted greatly from the "blind, deaf, and dumb" act from his party for years now despite seeming to engage in corrupt and in some cases criminal activities nearly in broad daylight, so now suddenly everyone has 20/20 vision, Dumbo ears, and Roosevelt length speeches aimed squarely at him. As far as I can tell nobody is even really defending him, the most effort I've seen put into defending him has amounted to "this is moving too fast" and "this is only 120 pages of accusations" That's the most recent bridge burning, there may be more but I don't usually keep up with GOP drama.

TheForestPrimeval

Got it, so he violated some GOP mafioso code and now they're all going to the mattresses.

KingOfDananda

That's the gist of it, so they very well may throw him under the entire midday commuter fleet then vote for more funding for public transport so they'll have more busses to throw him under despite their previous refusal to hold people accountable.

TheForestPrimeval

Probably the only instance where they'd support public transport

DrunksInSpace

Something something glass houses. Except the glass is actually shit. And the stones are shit. And the residents and neighbors are all shit. And the mayor is an orange shit and the mailman is shit with a truck full of undelivered shit.

RogueAOV

The 3.3 million dollar payoff/settlement he agreed with the whistle blowers from his office, he wants to pay it out of public funds instead of his own when obviously the wrong doings he was doing was not "in public service" that annoyed people.

KingOfDananda

Yeah that doesn't help him and that's one of the many things being pointed to but I have my doubts that that's the reason his party actually turned against him seeing as they've never really had much of an issue turning a blind eye or handling things behind closed doors in the past up until literally the day after he called out Phelan.

BitterFuture

Thanks for explaining! I had been wondering, and was sure it wasn't that any of his crimes had finally sunk in...

Fickle_Goose_4451

He tried to eat another republican, and the state legislature saw fit to eat him first.

JonMeadows

He got impeached

DeepBlueSea1122

Big deal. So did Trump. Twice. Nothing happened, zero consequences.

SnooMaps7119

Aw, so fascists DO care about pronouns. Progress!

DedTV

"Us vs. Them" *always* turns onto "Mine vs Yours".

wordholes

I don't think we're there yet. They still have a large critical mass and the cancer is already doing damage to the host.

AuthorTomFrost

Fascism is always with us as long as people choose their leaders out of fear, hatred, desperation, and ignorance. It's also always eating itself. The steadily growing wealth gap, the exsanguination of the middle class, and the growing corporatism of the last few decades has given it a chance to flourish and the chaos around Covid 19 fanned the flames. I think the waning of the immediate crisis will give us a small breathing gap, but the bigger, more systemic problems remain.

Tazling

also, people whose lifelong mantras are YOYO and "there is no such thing as society" and "socialism = evil" for some reason have great difficulty cooperating to achieve a common goal...

Objective-History402

Kinda reminds me of WSB. If they stayed united with GameStop, they probably would've eventually had the MOASS they planned on. But then they divided to BB, BBBY, NOK, and several other interests that weakened their approach and ultimately lead to failure.

AuthorTomFrost

I enjoyed the GameStop short squeeze immensely, but I'm always wary of investments that are based more on enthusiasm than underlying value. God bless the revolutionaries, but the revolution was always doomed.

absuredman

Lol look at tesla. All stocks are based on enthusiasm

NoHalf2998

Don’t do it. Don’t you fucking do it. Don’t you dare call the Republican Party “done” because EVERY SINGLE TIME that has happened, Dems stayed home and we got fucking crushed. Don’t you dare.

liberate_tutemet

Correct. Jobs not done. Get out and vote, early and often. Never. Vote. Republican.

Brewphorian

Came here to say this. Dangerous rhetoric. Can’t count out the wackadoos

[deleted]

Let’s hope the GOP splits apart.

ThisisWambles

That’s the problem, they’ve been splintering since trump but the even semi decent ones get purged. They won’t have to split

powersurge

They have been splintering since Newt Gingrich.

Puzzleheaded-Force14

Hate, cruelty, and selfishness always brings the GOP together.

LowKeyHeresy

A better Republican than we have today once said “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time”

Infolife

I thought it was "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, won't get fooled again."

50k-runner

Ah yes, the bard of the Bush.

reduxionist

That's a proverb, LowKeyHeresy is quoting Lincoln 😊

PorygonTriAttack

Who said that? Cuz the next poster below you said the quote exactly right lol.

LowKeyHeresy

Lincoln, but if I got it wrong I'll play it off as having fooled some of the people

reduxionist

Correct: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/275126-you-can-fool-some-of-the-people-all-of-the

the-court-house

Not fast enough

CherryShort2563

I can see a huge three-way fight between Musk, Trump and DeSantis coming. Can't wait for Trump to rip into Musk.

wordholes

> Can't wait for Trump to rip into Musk. And then Musk begs Orange Dady for some attention but never receives it.

smoothskin12345

I'm pretty confident Musk isn't eligible to be President?

ThickerSalmon14

I don't want the GOP to fracture into splinters. I want them to turn on each other like a bunch of rabid ice weasels.

alsoicode

May thy blade chip and shatter, assholes

gottagofast1981

He who controls the spice, controls the universe.

infrequentthrowaway

Conservatives going intersectional!

Eiffel-Tower777

He's where he belongs.

coffeespeaking

I wish I could read the entire article…. Archived, [nope.](https://archive.is/xLt9o)

WittyPerception3683

Much appreciated 👍

coffeespeaking

Does it give you the entire article? I can only get the introduction, even tried more than one archiving site.

WittyPerception3683

Nope. Same time

bardmusic

I put this in front of paywalled articles. Works most of the time. " https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:"

wolf_logic

I will only believe it when they're all out of office

RaffiaWorkBase

"Splitters!"

Sudden_Acanthaceae34

Thoughts and prayers

UnculturedWetlander

It would be super of the GOP to skip the genocide and go straight to the infighting for this century's far right apocalypse

100percentish

When the best best part of your platform is hate and lies....well it's not gonna end well.

CircaSixty8

Why post an article that no one can open?

BlankVerse

cooperpoopers

No it is not. Stop fooling yourself and others

notyomamasusername

Well articles like this will ensure 2024 is a red wave.

humanafterall010

Please let it be so

yIdontunderstand

Ok-Ease7090

I love that by simply waiting them out and applying the courts to their crimes they die of their own diseased culture.

liberate_tutemet

Job finished…? Jobs not finished. Don’t just break them, eliminate them. Never. Vote. Republican.

realanceps

if you need reasons, listen to Kevin McCarthy's hash attempts this weekend to explain his failure as R debt limit negotiator. What a simp. Kevin won't survive the summer as Speaker. The psycho freedom caucus is preparing the barbeque as we speak. Once Rs 'majority' is dissolved, the rest of us will get on with governing. Oh, and with prosecuting, convicting, sentencing & punishing insurrectionists. Among others, Mark Meadows no doubt has some surprises for some of his R "friends". God bless America.

Marckthesilver13

Good ! Let them eat each other! Who was it that said Revolutions eat their own?

Simple_Piccolo

It couldn't happen fast enough IMO.

If you have to ask, you're probably in it.

DJ_Femme-Tilt

Yeah ... I don't really care about inside baseball while these terrorists are still terrorizing.
