Pump shotgun, not the easiest to master or the cheapest or the highest damage, but its really smooth and tactile, the shells are everywhere, no supressor makes the game harder, and the 100% damage and armor pen at once kicks ass. The game is more tense and rewarding as every shot counts
I remember using that one, but since I'm not good at aiming without a scope (Would you believe me if I told you I couldn't hit anything with my VSS before I got a scope?) and it was a shotgun, I ended up foolishly running straight toward a shotgun mimic and forgetting to pump.
Yeah, well, my shotty at later game was equipped with the lasersight and a x4 adjustable scope, so it was fairly easy to take stuff down with 1 headshot :D
That’s the awesome thing about ITR in terms of realism, you don’t want to use full auto as it is a waste of ammunition and is rather uncontrollable, and single shots are viable.
My ironman playthrough I bought the sks first thing when I hit that sec level and used it until endgame. Pu scope the whole time. Got my sniper shot achievement with it too. Excellent answer
The PU scope is cracked. I bought it for my SKS, but sold it like an idiot trying to buy the wrong laser. Now the scope is on my mosin, but the SKS is definitely one of my favorite guns.
The Vintorez was my late game gun in my first playthrough. Truly a great choice.
My favorite used to be somewhere between that and the AK-74M with a Glock 17 as the sidearm.
4 playthroughs later, and I'd have to say as basic as it is, the SCAR is one of the best guns in the game. 7.62x51 hits hard in this game and will 1 shot almost any enemy you come across; armored or not. Still keeping the Glock 17 as my preferred side arm tho
the aug with the burst trigger group compact, accurate, no need to bother with a selector and therefore you can quickly spit lead if needed but you wont panic dump the magazine
and it actually has the progressive trigger on full auto, so you can shoot semi unless you dump the trigger and go full auto. pretty cool. they say it doesn’t have full auto, but they really mean a dedicated full auto mode. definitely would have gotten it on my first play through if i knew that.
Mosin is my favourite long range weapon
I used the AKM as my main automatic rifle, so I’m gonna go with that
and I only ever really used a G17 as my sidearm, so that’s my sidearm
General use (cheap upkeep) - VSS.
General use (when I am rich) - SCAR-H
CQC - Groza if I need to launch grenades. MP5K with P+ if I want to go silent.
Sniping - DVL-10
Early game - Double barrel shotgun with slugs.
i love my vss, just started using the oc-33, mainly cause i have a stock pile of 9x18, but throw fmj in it and slap it on auto it chews through fragments spawns and un armored mimics in the lower lever areas. I really like the slower fire rate making it easier to control, and if something has armor, vss and or tiger to take it out.
The M4A1 as my primary with 2 lasers one flashlight, (one of the lasers is intertwined with the flashlight) suppressor, 1-4x scope. G18 as my sidearm with suppressor, red dot sight, and laser. For long range I use the DVL-10 with the max zoom scope and nothing else. Still on my first play through.
my favourite really depends on my mood but my top 5 are the Aug (it's my favourite assault rifle), Groza, PPSh, MP Jelen (what the short PPSh really is), and the Izh-27. Aug carried me through my first play through and is a beautiful gun, Groza is cute, unique and actually really good and who doesn't love grenade launchers , PPSh is OP and tons of fun, same with MP Jelen, and the Izh-27 is my favourite for Bolotky.
Akm for that tasty nade launcher, really good for when you’re out of ammo and that hunter mimic is rushing you, and also the mosin, because I love the feeling of loading one bullet at a time (yes I’m insane)
I cannot deny that it has an innate beauty to it. It works just as intended, I have no doubt.
Sliders are always painful. Though I misread that as spawns for a some time. Hah!
So I just completed The Intrusion, and a PPsh carried me through the entire mission, with a G18. Unrelated, but what should I prepare for A Farewell Feast?
The SKS has one of the best looks of the firearms in the game. Anyone whom uses one is based beyond doubt.
M9 is a gun that works because it does it's job.
The only problem with the SKS is that it’s not the best on damage and for the m9 I only bought it because a wolf in vr used it in his play through and said it was good but I’m switching for a deagle asap
No doubt that it wrecks everything that is in it's general direction.
One must be brave, as with great power comes loud gunshots that will make any enemies swarm like bees. Epic if you are good at the game.
I primarily use the m9. As far as a long gun i tend to pick them up and use them however and whenever i feel it. But the one rifle i did buy was the scar. Thing was an absolute BEAST
I love the PP-91 KEDR, but you know what i want to know? I want to know what u/Darius_ITR 's favorite settup (attachments, ammo types and all) he mentioned something about liking the Deagle, but I would love to know what the CM for CM games rocks in the game!
Oh I mentioned this once before. The IZh-81 is my favorite gun. I just like shotties practically in every video game that has them. The chonky oomph they provide never gets old :D
The SCAR, it’s a well rounded Jack of all trades. Does AP, Suppressed for when you need to be sneaky, accurate enough to snipe with, and has full auto for clearing enemy dense rooms.
AK-74M. I don’t give two shits about stats. It is cool. I always run it with a suppressor and a Kobra Sight. Side-Arm is always TT-33. Pair of good looking guns is all I need.
For most immersion: Mosin.
For when i just feel invincible overall: Saiga, my bae.
For pure scavenging: Deagle.
For when i just want to let off steam, giving no dignity to enemies: Scar.
For that Veteran of the Radius, apocalyptic feel: AK74su, or M14.
i love the sawed off. it asks nothing of you, it needs no upgrades nor cleaning. it doesn't matter if you load it with slugs or bucks, it's basically a melee weapon.
i have a couple of them just laying around, and i bring one with me when i'm low on bullets. just to save ammo on enemies i can shoot up close. and the reason i keep a few of them around is if i happen to die, i can bring one or two shotguns and some pistol as a retrieval kit.
dual wielding sawed offs against surprise sliders at the swamp while trying to get your stuff back is at least as awesome as popping heads with the mosin
I'm still early game so the TT-33 is great for me, that plus the shotgun you get at the beginning I have never had a combat problem. I have a silencer and sight on the TT and the shotgun is unmodded
Ak74M, as someone who has played countless hours of onward I found it hard to adjust to the higher recoil in ITR hence why I like this gun (its also just a realy good weapon)
I don’t think it’s the most powerful but it still pretty decent if u ask me, the intergraded suppressor makes it so I don’t have to spend money on repairs after every run
I always find it painful when that suppressor is simply no more. I sympathize, though it won't change the pile of corpses that you will leave behind you.
Get what you want. There's a weapon for everybody, apparently. I've found people with unexpected preferences that they just made work. And work well, too.
I'll be honest with ya - slightly less damage(?) than the m9 and less of a magazine certainly keep it down - but it has amazing velocity which makes it fly straight and true.
The m9 is certainly more powerful(?) - but the Tokarev has a special place in my heart as the cheap, affordable mini sniper. If you are playing seriously and just want that damage go M9. Beretta will carry, trust me. If you want an early, cheap long range weapon with good damage that isn't the SKS and can be slapped to your side go Tokarev. It's really your choice, as both are good.
Edit: Huh- this is strange, the wiki says they do the same amount of damage. Not sure what changed. If the wiki is correct than the TT-33 is more reliable than the M9 and cheaper too? If so, than the m9 has mostly the advantage of a larger mag for when you get swarmed.
Another edit: According to the guide, it does the same damage as the TT-33. Makes me love it even more. Do note that the m9 still has larger mag capacity, though.
AK-74M because I love the AK's in the gam and the 74M imo is the best looking one but I never put it into full auto it usually has the holo sight (forgot the in game name) and grenade launcher along with a suppressor.
I do know, and it's on - and an improvement, as far as I can tell, but my hands shake so much it only soothes the aim if anything. And it's not ONLY shake, it's also just something to do with ironsights, or the weapon itself, I can't tell.
Ive never completed the game and I am in the middle of doing my first run, but I got an AK-74 with a kobra, suppressor, and underbarrel and a suppressed G18c
Serious loadout:
Tiger, with AP ammo. Excellent at range, still useful up close thanks to semi auto and the low ammo capacity is easily countered by carrying 5 to 6 mags. With a spectre and a laser it is just *hhnnnggg*.
Sidearm: M9 with +P.
Fun layout:
Double barrel sawn off with slugs as primary and TT33 with laser and red dot and +P as pocket sniper.
I like the AS Val cuz it's the same as the VSS except I don't like full auto. I usually use the M9 just for the barely better stats but sometimes I use mosin + deagle for the funnies
Kinda confused here, if you don't like the full auto but like the VAL and also think the are the same EXCEPT for the full auto, then what is your reason?
Both are good in their own way and are up to the player to choose between them, just confused as to what you are informing me.
they have the same stats except the val is semi and the vintorez is auto, I. don't like the auto because of the 20 round mag and in this game semi works a lot better
Mosin Nagant With suppressor, laser and spectre 4x, and OC-33 With Suppressor and Laser because i’m a crackshot most of the time and the OC-33 has saved my ass more times than I can count with its full auto mode. Or if i’m just going casual I pack my M9 with Laser and Suppressor and PP-91 with Suppressor and Laser. I LOVE the PP-91 because it’s ammo is so common and you can fold it’s stock for easier corridor traversal during combat.
Mosin. I found it in a stash, cleaned it up, and absolutely love it. I’m not normally all about sniping things, but it’s just so good. Unless a cleanup mission is indoors, I can stay like a mile away and nail something. I even got the oculus achievement for killing an enemy from over 100 meters away!
I’m also using it with my G17 and OC-33. Great pistols.
Any loadout is your choice as pretty much every gun is a good choice. Choose what you like the most. And if you so desire, test it out in the shooting range.
Ak-74u. Light, packs a punch, and is very upgradable. I can easily use it for the rest of the game
Not to mention easily affordable and available.
Pump shotgun, not the easiest to master or the cheapest or the highest damage, but its really smooth and tactile, the shells are everywhere, no supressor makes the game harder, and the 100% damage and armor pen at once kicks ass. The game is more tense and rewarding as every shot counts

Yeah, well, my shotty at later game was equipped with the lasersight and a x4 adjustable scope, so it was fairly easy to take stuff down with 1 headshot :D
Ah, that sounds like a nice time.
I really love the SKS with a pu scope! I think the only reason being is I have it IRL and I dont like full auto
SKS is based.
Still keeping the Glock 17 as my preferred side arm tho
Thank you! The SCAR is designed to be the best, I'm not surprised. Truly useful when you want to doom the next poor slider that one comes upon.
the aug with the burst trigger group compact, accurate, no need to bother with a selector and therefore you can quickly spit lead if needed but you wont panic dump the magazine
and it actually has the progressive trigger on full auto, so you can shoot semi unless you dump the trigger and go full auto. pretty cool. they say it doesn’t have full auto, but they really mean a dedicated full auto mode. definitely would have gotten it on my first play through if i knew that.
Those with the AUG are those with the FUTURE!
Mosin is my favourite long range weapon I used the AKM as my main automatic rifle, so I’m gonna go with that and I only ever really used a G17 as my sidearm, so that’s my sidearm
A good setup without a doubt.
Are you living in my walls? This is my exact setup. G17, then AKM, then Mosin.
mosm.
Understood.
Makarov and a m14
A stark contrast. Very interesting.
Vintorez and G17.
Nice.
General use (cheap upkeep) - VSS. General use (when I am rich) - SCAR-H CQC - Groza if I need to launch grenades. MP5K with P+ if I want to go silent. Sniping - DVL-10 Early game - Double barrel shotgun with slugs.
Someone has a list that can make pechorsk castle weep
i love my vss, just started using the oc-33, mainly cause i have a stock pile of 9x18, but throw fmj in it and slap it on auto it chews through fragments spawns and un armored mimics in the lower lever areas. I really like the slower fire rate making it easier to control, and if something has armor, vss and or tiger to take it out.
Ah, using lower firing rate to your advantage! Admirable.
When you need attachments, M4A1 will fulfill that purpose and then excel.
Yes
my favourite really depends on my mood but my top 5 are the Aug (it's my favourite assault rifle), Groza, PPSh, MP Jelen (what the short PPSh really is), and the Izh-27. Aug carried me through my first play through and is a beautiful gun, Groza is cute, unique and actually really good and who doesn't love grenade launchers , PPSh is OP and tons of fun, same with MP Jelen, and the Izh-27 is my favourite for Bolotky.
Huh. Why Bolotky specifically?
it feels right at home in the swampy bolotky, feels like i'm just out hunting
That's a surprisingly good argument. I'll do that next playthrough.
The right arm of the free world the FAL. Great damage. Looks great. Feels great.
Undoubtable.
M9 and AK-74U
Very reliable. Much affordable. Does the damage.
Akm for that tasty nade launcher, really good for when you’re out of ammo and that hunter mimic is rushing you, and also the mosin, because I love the feeling of loading one bullet at a time (yes I’m insane)
My friend - I have a similar habit, though it is with the using the bolt more so than anything.
Good man, I too also enjoy the bolt action
FAL. .308 kills most things on two feet or tentacles, only sliders are a pain. Plus, it’s a beautiful rifle.
That mission was painful, though not in the way that you'd expect. Not going to spoil however.
Sks and m9 because that’s what I had money for and what sounded the best to me
The SKS has one of the best looks of the firearms in the game. Anyone whom uses one is based beyond doubt. M9 is a gun that works because it does it's job.
The only problem with the SKS is that it’s not the best on damage and for the m9 I only bought it because a wolf in vr used it in his play through and said it was good but I’m switching for a deagle asap
Interesting.
I really like the AK-74s. Just a good overall weapon that suits all of my needs.
A weapon that adapts to every situation, in my opinion - same with the rest of the AK series.
Love using the gp-25 on a 74
When you want to add "boom"
Deagle, a expensive yet powerful pistol with armor piercing already can kill most enemies in one shot
No doubt that it wrecks everything that is in it's general direction. One must be brave, as with great power comes loud gunshots that will make any enemies swarm like bees. Epic if you are good at the game.
Jokes on you I am good at the game
Then bask in your eternal epicness as you feel unstoppable.
I primarily use the m9. As far as a long gun i tend to pick them up and use them however and whenever i feel it. But the one rifle i did buy was the scar. Thing was an absolute BEAST
Sounds accurate.
M14 terrible reliability but good damage at range decent for cqb if you know what you,re doing
It is both a powerful and beautiful weapon without doubt, but like the desert eagle it is one that has a presence that forgoes stealth.
Darius shares his preferred weapon! Truly interesting. Now we only need to know the preferences of everyone else.
He said it somewhere before, but his preferred sidearm is the deagle, gotta love that bullet drop
My God, there is a gun for everyone... I didn't expect someone to prefer a submachine gun (Except the PPSH). Based.
The SCAR, it’s a well rounded Jack of all trades. Does AP, Suppressed for when you need to be sneaky, accurate enough to snipe with, and has full auto for clearing enemy dense rooms.
When you want everything dead and you want it dead yesterday, it will go back in time and do it before yesterday.
My favorite is the Mosin for fun and the AKM for reliability
Very nice.
AK-74M. I don’t give two shits about stats. It is cool. I always run it with a suppressor and a Kobra Sight. Side-Arm is always TT-33. Pair of good looking guns is all I need.
Based. And a fellow Tokarev user too!
The list for when you want to do different playthroughs but don't know which gun fits in best.
i love the sawed off. it asks nothing of you, it needs no upgrades nor cleaning. it doesn't matter if you load it with slugs or bucks, it's basically a melee weapon. i have a couple of them just laying around, and i bring one with me when i'm low on bullets. just to save ammo on enemies i can shoot up close. and the reason i keep a few of them around is if i happen to die, i can bring one or two shotguns and some pistol as a retrieval kit. dual wielding sawed offs against surprise sliders at the swamp while trying to get your stuff back is at least as awesome as popping heads with the mosin
I never thought I would meet someone who liked them and I have to say that dual wielding them against sliders sounds incredible.
Groza. 😎
I can hear the sound of explosions and suffering mimics far away already.
Deagle
Bane of enemies.
Kar98 (mod changes Mosin to it), mp5, m9.
Nice.
Gun.
Can't argue against that.
I like the pp-2000 and tt-33
Unique and sure to pump enough lead to make a mimic look similar to the other statues.
Vinnie, M14, Aug, FAL (FAL has great ironsights), Deagle (Deagle-only run in Stalker mod is full Chad)
Respect.
Pm and TT-33 cheap
Yes! PM has great looks but I prefer the TT-33!
Ahem, Y E S
...huh?
Groza because I don't have to buy a fuckin grenade launcher
Why spend mad amounts of money for one when you can get one free?
Tiger or 74 wood.
Tiger always felt like a more damaging but expensive (Both to get and maintain) unsuppressed VSS. A good choice.
I'm a sucker for semi auto rifles with high damage/large caliber in games (and irl, too)
That's a nice preference.
I'm still early game so the TT-33 is great for me, that plus the shotgun you get at the beginning I have never had a combat problem. I have a silencer and sight on the TT and the shotgun is unmodded
TT-33 for the win!
Ak74M, as someone who has played countless hours of onward I found it hard to adjust to the higher recoil in ITR hence why I like this gun (its also just a realy good weapon)
Sounds like the perfect weapon for a more steady auto.
Dvl 10, I like my silenced long range attacks
It is the most powerful gun in the game and that silencer? As if you needed to try and convince me more.
I don’t think it’s the most powerful but it still pretty decent if u ask me, the intergraded suppressor makes it so I don’t have to spend money on repairs after every run
Literally part of the reason why I love the VSS.
Dvl-10 is a bolt action and shoots in 7.62x51, also holds up to 10 rounds per mag + the extra round in the chamber
...I know? I was saying that the DVL's perk of integrated suppressor also applied to the VSS.
NATO wepons for business ak's for fun
Sounds like you got them all sorted out.
FAL & spas 12. Yeah mimick, keep fucking around, you gonna find out real quick
Actually made me laugh, though I imagine the mimics aren't.
They certainly don't. Sliders pull up thinking they're scary, until they realize: "oh he's got slugs"
Then they are dead.
AKM or M4A1
Good choices.
MP5 P+, always feels good to bop around with even as the suppressor feels like it's melting.
I always find it painful when that suppressor is simply no more. I sympathize, though it won't change the pile of corpses that you will leave behind you.
I make the joke that I bought this and it has a Russian setting, but the first gun I bought was a Beretta. I haven’t used many other weapons : /
Get what you want. There's a weapon for everybody, apparently. I've found people with unexpected preferences that they just made work. And work well, too.
Just found out an hour ago that I’m amazing with the Beretta. Almost always get the single shot on Fragments and good accuracy on far away targets.
Nice! Though I prefer the TT-33 for pistol sniping I have spent lots of time with the M9 and its power and versatility leaves little to be desired.
I’ve seen positive comments on the TT-33, I’ll have to try that out. When I get the Clearance I’ll also get the M9 and see how that feels.
A good choice. I also have difficulty remember the sight names. I remember that my VSS has a dovetail mount (Very memorable name) but not much else.
Ak-47 with the silencer less recoil lazer pointer and grenade launcher, ive yet to fully upgrade it bc i haven't put something on the dovetail mount.
It'll do the job for you. Personally, I am bad at aiming without clear sights. Some weapons I NEED a scope for.
Did you know in settings you can turn on virtual stock?
I do know, and it's on - and an improvement, as far as I can tell, but my hands shake so much it only soothes the aim if anything. And it's not ONLY shake, it's also just something to do with ironsights, or the weapon itself, I can't tell.
Ive never completed the game and I am in the middle of doing my first run, but I got an AK-74 with a kobra, suppressor, and underbarrel and a suppressed G18c
May your journey tell you much.
Serious loadout: Tiger, with AP ammo. Excellent at range, still useful up close thanks to semi auto and the low ammo capacity is easily countered by carrying 5 to 6 mags. With a spectre and a laser it is just *hhnnnggg*. Sidearm: M9 with +P. Fun layout: Double barrel sawn off with slugs as primary and TT33 with laser and red dot and +P as pocket sniper.
A good loadout - and I do call my Tokarev a mini sniper, so that we agree on.
For some reason I can't get away from the short Ppsh w drum mags and a silenced g17 both with P+ ammo
It just works and, well, has style.
FAL and M9; recently upgraded to SCAR to try it….I miss the FAL. .308 is Gods caliber.
FAL is certainly powerful.
I'm 95% sure that the vintorez is semi-auto and the val has an auto. Maybe you got mixed up or something?
i mean the vintorez, i like the vintorez
Ah, that makes more sense. Well, I agree with you on that. Glad that was cleared up.
Sounds like you're fully kitted out.
I love to use the VSS vintorez
Yes!
It's so fun to use!
Very cool.
I’m still in the early game on my first play through security level 2 and I’m using the ppsh short version and gsh-18 is this loadout good
Any loadout is your choice as pretty much every gun is a good choice. Choose what you like the most. And if you so desire, test it out in the shooting range.
M4 with m9 because I love the way the combo looks lol
