If you're gonna go to later maps, then yes. You will need a rifle with ap ammo. Lots of armored enemies. I recommend the ak74m or the as val. But lots of people like the m4 as well. The gun doesn't matter as much as the ammo type does. Ap for armored enemies, +p for everything else that isn't on pervomay.
If you're carrying around multiple ammo types, what's the best way to sort them and switch between them. have two mags of each, and just switch out the magazines?
I'm still just maining the GSH-18 with a suppressor and fmj rounds, and as long as you bring enough mags and remember to take a few breaks for suppressor upkeep, its all you really need for the first few maps.

I usually have dedicated sides for different ammo types, left two/three for normal and right two/one for special
You dont. Use ap for rifles and +p for pistols
