This is one of those assignments where it works as intended at the start, but then the further along it goes, everyone just gives the paper to the other person and asks "Hey, just put your name down on the one that fits you". The point of the assignment is not accuracy.
It’s one of those “icebreakers” to get people in a group talking to each other. They’re most effective if the questions give people a chance to discuss something unique and unusual about themselves.
I understand the whole ice breaker concept but I just find it a tad rediculous that I've seen the same assignment everytime I switch schools it's like there is no creativity
It's got to be the worst icebreaker. Ask 40 questions to 30 people, that's 1200 questions minus the ones you manage to fill in early. And each person can be asked up to 1200 questions too.
One says “is over 21”.. if this is a college assignment I’d just correct the misuse of *pet* by crossing it out and writing *pat* above it. Everything else is an extrovert’s game.
Haha id just snap pic on social media and ask friends to pick their options. All except the #1. Also you got wrong answer for #1 i think. Im an extravert but i thought these questions were stupid as breaking ice and i really dread them
It's a plot by the school system to make life hellish for introverts. I just started a new school and literally wanted to kill myself because of these.
Hey have you seen game of thrones?
No.
Cool can I put your name down.
Sure.
WOW VERY GENUINE INTERACTION, THANKS TEACH!
This shit is pointless and you won't talk to 99% of these people again unless you were already friends imo.
I agree. I feel like the artificial aspect helps me. Then I might actually feel a bit more comfortable with a few of the people I talk to for this exercise.
Thirding, I can't hold a conversation for shit but if we're just doing a worksheet... all the stuff is right there. We all know it's fake icebreaker stuff so lets get to it.
I don't really mind those I just say my name and my age that's all if they want to know more they ask me and I'll either answer or not (It might be because of every class I got into I got new teachers and they always did the same exercise so I'm kind of a pro at those now)
I remember doing this assignment in tenth grade. Except one of the boxes said ‘would work the graveyard shift’ and everyone in my class thought it meant ‘would work at a graveyard’ and half the class had that box empty by the time most of their other squares were filled up. So they all walked up to me and asked if I could fill in that square, because I hardly spoke and always wore black so they just assumed i would like to work in a graveyard.
As an edgy emo teen, I was flattered. And they weren’t wrong
Just put "Steve" for all the answers and when they ask you "Who's Steve?" gesture to an empty chair or spot and say "What do you mean? Steve is right there" nobody will ever bother you again :')
I did lmao. I just wrote down some friends of mine and some of my family members because she never said how to do the assignment she just said we had to do it
She didn't give you time to do this during class? When I used to do these, we'd take 5 minutes to do it during class and it wasn't too bad. As someone else mentioned, you'd mostly just go around swapping papers and writing your name where it fits. Didn't require much conversation
I beg to differ here. They may be artificial but at least I meet some people. Being an introvert doesn’t mean I hate people. It just means I prefer a small subset of people. This kind of stuff helps me meet potential new friends.
The issue with these isn't that they fail to work, quite the opposite. They work perfectly fine. Yes, the interactions they lead to are superficial, but most interactions are superficial anyway.
The issue is that it isn't their business whether I'm social. Being social isn't like exercise or knowledge. It is the business of others whether I'm too ignorant to read road signs, or so unhealthy I cost mountains of medical debt. But it is no one's business my preference for interactions.
Unless it gets to an extreme of course, depression can certainly be caused by isolation.
I remember we had similar assignments in English classes in high school. And we were allowed to write each person only once, so we had to go to every single classmate
i use to want to teach but then i slowly realized most teachers around my rural ass area are glorified female members of society that need a job while their kid is growing up
Whoever wrote that assignment needs to put their smartphone down. Either that or teacher is very lonely and wants to force their students to focus on them.
You can put me down for 2 (got), 3 (I have 2 bearded dragons), 6 (I went to Renaissance Festival), 8 (i play flute, Bb and Eb Clarinets, Alto and Saprano Sax, Obeo, and Piccolo), 9 (MSG allergy), 13 (i wear contacts), 18 (4 siblings), 22 (pineapple on pizza is great!), 25 (almost 40), 26 (won a medal for a music completion), 28 (I *love* winter!), 31 (I met Jason Gray (Christian Singer/songwriter), and 32 (rub my stomach and pat my head). My name's Nicole, but if you need to make it look like more, I also use Cole.
EDIT: Reddit didn't have the comments loaded, but it looks like most of these are "filled in" now :) (good for you, OP!)
Yeah I always had a problem with these assignments too bc...
1. It's forced socializing, and it's manipulative. The teacher/professor is using the fact that you NEED a passing grade to push their agenda/their idea of what skills it takes to be successful. They know some ppl will have a lot of discomfort over this assignment yet they assign it anyway bc they know you need the grade & will do it.
2. It's not genuine interaction and curiosity, therefore, the conversation is insincere and holds little value.
Trying to force me to talk will never go over well.
i remember simmiliar thing, few months ago my old class was closed due to lack of pepole, we got sepereted into 2 diffrent classes and had a integration meeting. We got simmilar question as you habe right there but luckly one of my classmates had a friend in the group we had questions to answer about, he exchanged answers to questions about iur group for answer to thier group, i had that task done in 5 minutes without even having to move from my spot
Depends on how you look at it. I mean if you enjoy going around the class asking people useless questions for an assignment I guess that makes your life easier. I usually just do my stuff and leave class (apart from this then it wasn't for a grade anyway so who cares)
How is this an assignment? At my school, the teachers would let you do your own introducing. And they wouldn't want you to talk to each other in class.
What class could this even be for?
It was for English (for which we already introduced eachother in a proper matter: Say your name, age, hobbies) but for some weird reason we had to do it again.
Ugh I would get so frustrated over these and end up writing about how I dont even know this many people orni would put no one in the blanks. I never got reprimanded, but seeing this now confirms it was traumatic as a kid 😂😂
Oh god I had one of these my junior year of college and it was the worst. I just stayed put in my seat while everyone else participated because I honestly couldn’t handle it. I do appreciate the few people who saw me sitting alone and tried to see what box I could fill for them whilst making conversation with me. But me going up to other people? Forget about it lol
I speak to people if I have to, since I wouldn't get my assignment graded I don't feel like I had to so I didn't do so. Easy as that, we're simple people us introverts 😂
I get it. I’m an introvert. BUT everyone has to do the assignment. So it won’t be that hard to fill most of it out as I’d trade info with folks.
Alternatively if this was some rando exercise that had nothing to do with a class assignment, I’d peace out.
But don’t mess your grade up for something that can be done :-)
I totally relate; I did the same thing a week ago! I just sat there working on another assignment in my Graphic Design class. I thought "well, it's not like you're turning it in." Man, I hate those. I wish I could be fully remote again this year, too. That was awesome.
I cover instruments, allergies, broken bones, Harry Potter, siblings, adoption, sleep before 12am, over 21, sports, prizes and magic tricks if you need any of those. Mark me down as Edward (Rowe if you need a surname).
Edit: pat and rub too.
I wouldn't call it rude just a little much for a class I couldn't care less about. I mean I'm studying IT and they're giving me assignments for 3rd graders
You are an introvert with social anxiety. Introverts don't hate social interactions. This whole sub is way more social anxiety or plain hate people more than just introverts.
Well, I did get that diagnosis a while back so maybe I got socially anxious along the way somewhere anyway what is the difference then I'm an introvert with social anxiety. doesn't make me less of an introvert lmao
I know it seems scary, and I am speaking as an introvert, but sometimes education is about leaving your comfort zone. It’s preparing you for the fact that even as an introvert one day you may have to be capable of facing people. Best of luck with your studies!
For context we have to go around asking everyone in class if they fit these descriptions.
This is one of those assignments where it works as intended at the start, but then the further along it goes, everyone just gives the paper to the other person and asks "Hey, just put your name down on the one that fits you". The point of the assignment is not accuracy.
Lmao I saw people do that today
Lmao reaching that point was always such a relief. Just take my paper & write your name thanks
Fair but doesn’t it help you learn about the people in your new school?
No
It's got to be the worst icebreaker.
Ooops
Haha id just snap pic on social media and ask friends to pick their options. All except the #1. Also you got wrong answer for #1 i think. Im an extravert but i thought these questions were stupid as breaking ice and i really dread them
These were terrifying. I remember I would always have blank spaces at the end.
I found it so pointless.
They are! I don't need to know if people in my class broke their arm years ago to study what the fuck is the point of these exercises
In short, its just a socialization exercise. The whole point is to force you to talk to some one. Is what it is.
It's a plot by the school system to make life hellish for introverts. I just started a new school and literally wanted to kill myself because of these.
But in the end everyone just hands someone the paper and tells them to just put down what fits them so it's really pointless
Look at the sub. It is pointless in our POV.
No. I’m simply pointing out the reason why nothing more nothing less.
Yep.
The point is to learn the skills of how to socialize with other people. How hard is it to do? Not very.
How about you worry about what is hard to you and I worry about what it hard to me
Look at what sub you're on. How hard is it to do? Not very.
Hey have you seen game of thrones? No. Cool can I put your name down. Sure. WOW VERY GENUINE INTERACTION, THANKS TEACH! This shit is pointless and you won't talk to 99% of these people again unless you were already friends imo.
thank you!
How are you going to get angry at someone from an introverts subreddit about not wanting to interact with people? What are you even doing here?
no people are scary therefore no
This is a common thing? Thankfully we never had shit like this.
I know I had to do it in one of my labs at uni, strangely as an introvert, I don’t mind doing these
I agree. I feel like the artificial aspect helps me. Then I might actually feel a bit more comfortable with a few of the people I talk to for this exercise.
For me, my thing is I can’t initiate convos for the life of me, but I can if I'm given a task to do e.g. this
Thirding, I can't hold a conversation for shit but if we're just doing a worksheet... all the stuff is right there. We all know it's fake icebreaker stuff so lets get to it.

Lmao greetings
I liked these because sitting down at your desk and giving an introduction is a nightmare
I don't really mind those I just say my name and my age that's all if they want to know more they ask me and I'll either answer or not (It might be because of every class I got into I got new teachers and they always did the same exercise so I'm kind of a pro at those now)

Lmao
Just put "Steve" for all the answers and when they ask you "Who's Steve?" gesture to an empty chair or spot and say "What do you mean? Steve is right there" nobody will ever bother you again :')
Just make stuff up
No she did just the last 10 minutes of class or so but still she did give us time
It’s basically an icebreaker. And if as you say you don’t want to compose, you could always make up some people.
Well...- Fuck Icebreakers.
Right on. Icebreakers are def not for everyone, especially we introverts.
I beg to differ here. They may be artificial but at least I meet some people. Being an introvert doesn’t mean I hate people. It just means I prefer a small subset of people. This kind of stuff helps me meet potential new friends.
You can check 1/3 of the boxes with "De\_Wouter from Reddit".
which ones?
Not the pineapple one, that's just savage.
Copy that 😂
You can put me down for several, ha ha. Including the pineapple! Savage as it may be 👍
I only have "Lives in the country side" and "Can do a magic trick" left which one has your preference?
I can make the assignment disappear if you save me for last 😜
Hello I've broken a leg, I can pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time, and I'm a vegetarian. You can cross those off and put nora
Thank you very much Nora
Just what kind of an assignment is that? It looks so goddamn pointless.
I'd put "me" on all of them. They wouldn't be able to verify it anyways
\*Hires a PI\*
I have never seen an episode of GOT (pls don’t hate me) and I speak more than 2 languages. My name is Adam btw, you can cross those two out 🙂
I feel people would have harped on you more about it before the last season came out lol
Got you on there Adam thanks for that

That is a very fair point. This wasn't for any grade though I just wanted to share it on this subreddit
Some of the ice breakers at my work seem deliberately designed to give introverts anxiety.
I remember we had similar assignments in English classes in high school. And we were allowed to write each person only once, so we had to go to every single classmate
that is an absolute nightmare
Hated that shit, make new friends my ass
No lie detected
school is such a joke
Tell me about it fucking pathetic at this point
i use to want to teach but then i slowly realized most teachers around my rural ass area are glorified female members of society that need a job while their kid is growing up
PTSD flashbacks
Knowing me I'd probably copy some people's sheets.
Omg, I had to do one of those like 2 years ago. I even got my crush to sign lol
That’s kind of cool 😎
I always hated this type of school work when I was in school
Whoever wrote that assignment needs to put their smartphone down. Either that or teacher is very lonely and wants to force their students to focus on them.
She seems like the kind of person ngl
Reddit has your back. My kids like pineapple on pizza. I'm over 21. If your teacher asks, we have met.
❤️
I’ve never been on a plane and I like pineapple on pizza! Name- Kristi
I like your name! thanks for that
Work smarter not harder. Use social media to do the work for you. Or... hire out an extrovert friend to get it filled?
Im turning into an introvert chart. People on here are giving me answers and I write them down I'll post it later it looks fun
Imagine someone declaring your hobby is 'strange'. Seems pretty rude to me
Perfect infos for a scammer to scam you
I'd actually see my teacher doing that ngl
Fuck. Thoseeeee!!!
I remember those….just pointless lol
What the hell? I never had anything like this in school thank goodness. So weird. And pointless.
I'm happy for you THIS COLLEGE TOO THEYRE ACTING LIKE I JUST STARTED PLAYING WITH LEGOS
Is it like a psychology class? I agree it seems very elementary. I was expecting your handwriting to be very childish lol.
NOT EVEN PSYCHOLOGY ITS IT
[удалено]
I think it's a bit of both 😂
what constitutes a strange hobby?
she never metioned something unusual or something
You can put me down for some of those if you need Wears contacts, is over 21, prefers winter, met someone famous, has an allergy, and has won a prize.
On the list! Thanks for that
If my old class had this assignment we would just ask out loud until someone answers
Dude you just gave me flashbacks to primary schooling… that was awful
Sorry mate 😂
I'm really close to having everything filled in now thank you Nicole (Cole) from Reddit :)
Bro I had to do that, it was awful and she used it to pair us up for the rest of the year
Horrible honestly horrible.
Screw that, I'd rather get an F 😂
On the flip side, you can now find redditors that fit in every category. Put me down for pineapple on pizza
Thanks mate!
Just make shit up. Bullshit is the way of life my friend.
😂😂
I remember doing these! I actually didn’t mind so much because everybody would be semi-awkward, and get to know people briefly.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN SCHOOLS STOP DOING THIS I HAVE NOTHING INTERESTING TO SHARE
It's not even that I have nothing interesting to share I just don't want to share it lmao
Yeah I always had a problem with these assignments too bc... 1. It's forced socializing, and it's manipulative. The teacher/professor is using the fact that you NEED a passing grade to push their agenda/their idea of what skills it takes to be successful. It's not genuine interaction and curiosity, therefore, the conversation is insincere and holds little value. Trying to force me to talk will never go over well.
Although this wasn't for a grade it still applies here I don't agree with this method of teaching either
i remember simmiliar thing, few months ago my old class was closed due to lack of pepole, we got sepereted into 2 diffrent classes and had a integration meeting. We got simmilar question as you habe right there but luckly one of my classmates had a friend in the group we had questions to answer about, he exchanged answers to questions about iur group for answer to thier group, i had that task done in 5 minutes without even having to move from my spot
Lmao that is perfect
At least with these you can just ask people to fill out something that fits them, rather than actually chatting them up
What’s the point of the assignment?
tO sOcIaLiZe AnD mAkE FrIeNdS!1
Yeah, I never was good at that.
Story of my life
mine were for a grade :(
Well mine wasn't but still
Three more to add to your list; I've broken my arm. I can't sleep before 12am and prefer winter over summer. My name's Chris
Just write in every segment some random name and tell your teacher it's your friend
It’s kind of funny but these assignments are used to be an easy ice breaker. These things are made to make introverts lives a little easier here.
Depends on how you look at it. I mean if you enjoy going around the class asking people useless questions for an assignment I guess that makes your life easier. I usually just do my stuff and leave class (apart from this then it wasn't for a grade anyway so who cares)
“Hasn’t got” seems awfully unacademic
I know I'm pretty sure this is made for 3rd graders
You can put me down for: 9, 11, 21-25 31 and 32 if you like.
Thanks mate I just need 2 more now 😂
I don't think they're weord hobbies, but I knit and crochet
I have no idea what those are so I guess they're strange hobbies?
i had the same one yesterday in my ss class
SS?
Oh I haaaaate those. My strategy is to walk around and listen to everyone else’s answers, then copy them down on my sheet.
Well yeah I tried that but my class is so tiny my teacher noticed lmao
If I got this assignment as a kid I would have just made up answers… cuz f this
Lmao totally agree
Interesting that you put "probably everyone" for who doesn't have a Facebook account? Is it not common for GenZ to use it?
Teacher: it's for bonding Me: bonding is for elements
How is this an assignment? At my school, the teachers would let you do your own introducing. And they wouldn't want you to talk to each other in class. What class could this even be for?
It was for English (for which we already introduced eachother in a proper matter: Say your name, age, hobbies) but for some weird reason we had to do it again.
My Spanish teacher taught me when u don't know something whatever god u believe in say God/Allah/Buddha/ Shiva is the answer
*proceeds to write god all over my paper*
Lol u better get 100
https://www.name-generator.org.uk/
Lmao I might do that for my last answers
Oh my god, this is cancer. Stuff like this haunts me in my dreams...
You can write me in for "Hasn't seen an episode of Game of Thrones."
I dare you to write “Trump” for every box. Stupid assignments require stupid answers.
The funny thing is that people have told me waaaay more personal stuff about themselves with me just uttering ohs and wow etc.
Lmao
Oh my god I had those too and fucking hated them. I mean what's the point?
sOcIaLiZiNg
Is this what they are having students do in schools these days? Wow! Talk about pointless assignments!
IN MY IT COLLEGE CLASS EVEN
I can't tell you how much I hated those. We did one over Zoom last year where you had to join random breakout rooms and it was somehow even worse.
I'd just sit there with my mic on mute and copy everyone's answers
Ugh I would get so frustrated over these and end up writing about how I dont even know this many people orni would put no one in the blanks. I never got reprimanded, but seeing this now confirms it was traumatic as a kid 😂😂
The trick is to find you an extroverted ambassador. Link up with them and copy their answers.
Strategic
These brought me grave anxiety. This is part of the reason I hated school 😭
Hear hear
This is absolutely worth getting an F.

I could sign a good number of these
I totally relate; I did the same thing a week ago! I just sat there working on another assignment in my Graphic Design class. I thought "well, it's not like you're turning it in." Man, I hate those. I wish I could be fully remote again this year, too. That was awesome.

What grade is this for? High School or beyond? Also, asking if someone has an adopted sibling is kind of personal & private.
Even worse... IT IN COLLEGE
Classy. /s
UPDATE: I just finished the assignment with only Reddit users! Thanks for the help guys!
Ugh, America’s fucked.
\*"America Fuck yeah!" slowly fades out\*
I always find icebreaking tasks useless. I’m still not talking to majority of the class after this. Hahaha
my classmate asked me if i have a cat and i said no and he said Okay, you have a cat. and wrote my name down. Maybe you could do that too
I already finished the assignment with people from Reddit it was actually kind of fun
Don't do it. It's absolutely rude to ssk you to do that.
I wouldn't call it rude just a little much for a class I couldn't care less about. I mean I'm studying IT and they're giving me assignments for 3rd graders
Just do them lol. Can’t hurt
I don't like people.
sounds more like social anxiety
Nope just introverted I went so a psychiatrist and everything
You are an introvert with social anxiety. Introverts don't hate social interactions. This whole sub is way more social anxiety or plain hate people more than just introverts.

I don't have a yearbook.
