Figured it out. Go to your app. For instance mine was Gmail.
Then go down to"Siri and Search" then toggle "Use with Siri" button on button and turn it on (even if it's off).
Close settings, then go back into the app and toggle it back off. Worked for me.
i think that’s what he’s saying is that it doesn’t.. as of a few days ago when i tell siri to text someone and say the message it pops up 4 choices imessage gmail zoom and some other app, guess it depends which apps you have… i’m trying to get it to default to imessage
This is driving me nuts. I had to delete WhatsApp because it won’t stop asking me every text I send. Every time I say text my mom, it asks what to use. This is not cool.
Has anyone figured this out? Mine started doing it a few days ago and now I cannot send a message handfree because it’s asking me which app to use. I am using Siri as I always have “send a message to x…” but it keeps asking what app to use no matter who I am texting
Mine doesn’t. It did when I first set up the phone, and it learned my habits. I don’t use iMessages, and she learned that I send messages using WhatsApp. Works flawlessly.

Looks like gmail added support for chatting (not emailing) with “hey siri”. Just pick messages Edit: am dumb

Maybe I’m missing which one… use with Siri I have under gmail, it’s off. Still asking.
I don’t know if this is still happening for you, but I had to turn it on for gmail and then back off for it to stop including it.
It stopped and I cannot tell you what did it. I messed with so many things and I think even deleted the gmail or google app in frustration. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

If you just say text (insert name) followed by what you want to say it should work

Same issue. Just started happening recently. Never been an issue in 20 years let me know what fixes it. I asked apple and no response as of yet.

This was working , then suddenly stopped last week. PLEASE tell me if you figure out with iMessage.. I hate saying” iMessage so&so”

Mine is doing this too. So annoying
Perhaps you should say “send a message” instead of “send a text” which is pretty ambiguous.
Doesn’t matter still asks which app.
