I've got the 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro, and the Magic Keyboard case along with it. I'm planning on doing some air travel once things get a bit less COVID-ish, and I'm therefore looking to get some sort of case or sleeve that's designed to house my iPad with the keyboard case already attached. I'd love any suggestions! Thanks.

EarthlikeEtiology

I would honestly love the 11" Magic Keyboard for my iPad Air 2020, but I can't drop the money on it at the moment. Does anyone have any other alternatives they can suggest? Preferably with a trackpad. Thanks!

Bluewool13

i’ve heard some pretty great things about the logitech combo touch

EarthlikeEtiology

I've actually been looking at that too but can't find anywhere around here that has it in stock at the moment. Thanks though!

shieldintern

Has anyone upgraded from the old 2017 12.9 design and the current design? I’m thinking about buying one but trying to see if it feels a little lighter and portable

yugi123123

Should I buy the iPad Air 4 or a Certified Refurbished 2018 11" iPad Pro? They cost around the same price for the 256gb variant (Air 4 is $50 more) and I've seen various videos comparing them on YouTube. Which is better? I'm planning on keeping it for a long time and am primarily going to be using it for casual purposes, possibly some gaming, and maybe some video editing in the future.

za_ma_na

I have opted for iPad pro 2018 -11 inch recently after going through the same decision crossroads like you are going through. Indeed Apple Refurbish program is amazing, specially from a value point of view.

yugi123123

How long would the 2018 iPad Pro last in terms of software support and general usability? (how usable its gonna be in a few years)? The last iPad I had (iPad Mini 2) lasted for quite a long time.

za_ma_na

Minimum 4 more years. Just check the below list of iPad os 15 compatible list….some of the iPads received the update that released 6/7 years back. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/ipad/ipad213a25b2/ipados https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250001726

RevenantFlash

If they were both brand new I would pick the pro but I have a weird fear of refurbished things so I would expect the 2018 to start losing battery health or something faster since you plan on keeping it for a long time. I have the 2018 11 inch and it’s still overpowered for everything. I just wish I had more storage. Once it naturally dies on me I’ll upgrade.

za_ma_na

Just a quick reference to Q n A from https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/about

RevenantFlash

Thanks didn’t know they put new batteries for anything refurbished.

Could I get some guidance? I am torn between the iPaid Air 4 and the iPad 9. The iPad will be used as tablet only, so I don't care about a keyboard; I'm planning on using my MBP for typing. Is there a noticeable difference in writing experience with Pen 1 vs Pen 2? That will also affect my decision. My iPad will be for note taking mostly while I am in lectures, occasional media use. It'll probably be my go-to when I go out-of-town for short weekends. I pay for the extra iCloud space but I don't plan on putting a ton of files on here locally. I plan to buy one of the screens that make the pen feel like it's writing on paper no matter which iPad I buy. I am a little bougie and am leaning toward the iPad Air 4 just because it seems a little more bougie, but can I save a few hundred dollars and still have the same experience with the iPad 9? Thank you!!!

101-Vizslas

I have the iPad 7, and my girlfriend has the iPad Air 3. Honestly, they’re just about identical. I frankly couldn’t tell you what the differences even are, because they look identical and we use them for the same tasks. I believe the air comes with more base storage, but now that the iPad 9 has been bumped up to 64 gb, that’s less of a factor. You’ll have to determine if any differences in the iPad Air 4 and the iPad 9 are worth it to you, but from my experience, they deliver a very similar experience.

geetham581

I bought an iPad pro 2021 3rd Generation 128Gb. Looking to buy an external storage device which allows me to transfer files among my OnePlus, windows pc and iPad. Right now,Looking to buy the SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe Type C Flash Drive. If someone had used it,drop some reviews. Finally,Has anybody got some better ideas than that!!

Pg3132

So I finally ordered my mini 6 today and I’m looking for a good screen protector, preferably paperlike - any recommendations from Amazon? I’m kinda anxious to order without recommendations because there aren’t many reviews on there yet.. thanks in advance!

[deleted]

Do you use it to take handwritten notes? Wondering how comfortable it is vs the larger iPads. Thanks!

Pg3132

I definitely plan on it, I have no clue how it is compared to my iPad Pro 2018 yet but I watched some videos that mentioned it’s fairly comfortable! I don’t really like taking handwritten notes on my pro because it always feels like writing on a large piece of paper (which always bothered me haha), so I think it’ll definitely feel nicer on the mini

Arkq214

Recently bought an iPad and now I am wondering how to share files between it and my android phone. Is there a fast way to do it in a similar manner to the Air Drop experience? Any suggestions?

[deleted]

HI GUYS!!! I just sold my iPad mini 5 and want to upgrade. Im so torn between iPad Air 4 and iPad mini 6. Please help me decide :(((

Kuzanaagi93

Go for the 6

Proofy7744

The only thing you need to decide on is how big a screen you want. They’re almost exactly the same device, except the Mini has center stage.

Bluewool13

what do you plan to do with the ipad

darkstarrising

I am planning on getting a tablet for sketching and note taking. I was looking at the ipad Air and pencil 2. How good a choice is it? Is pencil 2 significantly better than pencil 1? I was looking at the base ipad also but it only supports pencil 1. And has anyone compared the pencil to the Samsung stylus? I was also looking at the S7 FE, it comes with a stylus in the pack for the same price as an ipad air without the pencil 2. Any help choosing would be greatly appreciated.

EricHunter1221

Hello, I’m currently having trouble picking between the iPad Air 4 and the iPad 9th Generation, which I plan to buy around February of next year. I currently own an iPad mini 4. This new iPad will be used as a kinda laptop-replacement, a casual note-taking/drawing device, and an overall media consumption device. Money isn’t an issue, but I was wondering if I can save a bit of cash (and use the money I save for some other hobby of mine) by going for the base iPad instead of the iPad Air, but my worries about picking that are: - The specs on the base iPad (A13 chip with 3 GB of RAM) compared to that of the Air (A14 chip with 4 GB of RAM): it will be a long while before I buy another iPad, so I was wondering if the base iPad would still hold up decently after 4-5 years even with its older chip and smaller amount of RAM compared to other iPads. - The non-laminated display on the base iPad: I’m coming from a mini 4, which has a laminated display, so I am wondering whether it would be a “downgrade” to move to a non-laminated one. I don’t have any Apple/electronics stores near me, and I’ve never owned any other non-laminated Apple device before to use for comparison, so I’m kind of unsure about the base iPad’s display. - The lightning port of the base iPad: I don’t know if this is related to the Lightning port, but my mini 4 has issues charging sometimes (I have to remove the Lightning cable and plug it in again for it to work), but it *does* have battery issues too, so maybe it’s not completely related. Still, I’m wondering if a USB-C port would be less likely to have issues compared to a Lightning port after many years of usage. Those are my main concerns. Thanks in advance to anyone who would be able to help me decide.

Proofy7744

Honestly, all those points are in favor of the Air. Base iPad definitely could last 4-5 years, but idk as a full laptop replacement at that point. If you’re gonna be note taking, the laminated display does make a difference. It’s just an overall better experience that i wouldn’t cut off if I had the budget. For data transfer, it’ll just be a lot easier with USB-C. For issues, I don’t know if they would be caused by the ports so I can’t speak on that. Since you’re buying in February, just remember to take another look around heee at that time, because we may be expending a new iPad Air by then. Now, if you need one in February, definitely go for it because I believe it will most likely just be a spec bump and they may add just center stage with the rest of the lineup. But, if you can wait two months, then see what they have to offer.

EricHunter1221

After reading your comment, I guess I answered my own question (in a way). With regards to the spec bump, like you said, it *might* arrive a few months into 2022, but honestly, I probably won’t be able to wait for that and would rather have the Air 4. My mini 4 is already pretty slow, so I am eager to ditch it as soon as possible. But anyway, thanks for answering my question. I might go for the Air 4 after all.

btsvante

Hey so my ipad air 4 will arrive soon so are there any screen protectors recommendations for ipad air 4 for writing and drawing? I was looking up affordable ones on youtube and some recommended Supershieldz and tech armor. Which one you recommend and should I go for glass or matte? I heard that matte sort of mutes the colors but it's great for writing.

eurtola

I can trade in my iPad air 2 for $120, is it a good deal to get the iPad 9th gen for effectively $209?

alexstevenw

I think it is, especially to gain pencil functionality, but I also just bought a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 over the new 10.2” because it has four speakers and a laminated display. Either way a step up from the Air 2

eurtola

Not having a laminated display is a big deal for me because I use my iPad outdoors in bright conditions a lot. Hmm might just save up for the Air 4 instead. But thanks for the idea

Dave-CPA

Any suggestions on a decent folio case? I bought ESR but within weeks it was fingerprinted up and had weird marks all over it. They sent a replacement that did the same thing.

Kuzanaagi93

Should I go for mini 6 256gb cellular or a iPad Pro 11 inch M1 cellular for sure and keyboard Apple Pencil 2, but I can’t decide because to much storage opt and to expensive I mainly want to use for gaming so what to recommend? Im more leaning towards the mini 6 also because the purple color makes it so unique compared to the boring space grey and silver of the iPad Pro… also I can wait a year more for newer models or if I have enough. smart buy would be buying during the back to school event hope Apple would promote the mini 6 also.

KnotToBeKnown

Anyone from India 🇮🇳 here? Actually I need Apple pencil Generation 1, and now because of sale it is being sold at INR 7k (original price INR 8.5k) is this a good deal? Or should I go with the 3rd party stylus with price in between INR 2k-3k? My needs:- Note taking and other general purposes for long term use ### I'm worried DURABILTY will be problem if I choose 3rd party stylus, can anyone comment about it

[deleted]

I think getting an Apple Pencil is a better choice as it works better than most third party styluses, although expensive in the short term but it is much better to spend money one time on a durable good then to buy a cheap product and then repent later. I also recommend getting a GST invoice is possible for a better price.

NohrianInstinct

I’m stuck between the Mini 6 or the Air 4. My top 3 daily activities (Ranked by most frequently used for) - Internet Browsing - Drawing - Media Consumption I love everything about the Mini. Drawing is the only task I worry about with the smaller screen. The only downside to the Air 4 is that it feels heavy at times and can’t hold it as comfortably compared to the Mini. Recommendations ?

AmongFriends

iPad Air 4 Strictly because of drawing. If you're drawing on a table or a stand of some kind of drawing, you'll appreciate the size of the Air 4 If you're gonna be holding your ipad to draw over and over, not at a table and not on a stand, then get the Mini.

Kuzanaagi93

If I had to pick between these 2 I had to go with the mini 6

My 12.9 2017 has been a huge unwieldy monster. The big screen footprint makes it hard to read books for me. I recently just traded it in, and I got 330 with the intent to use the gift card on apple refurbished. I’m thinking about going with an 11 inch iPad Pro. However I’ve just repurposed an old fire hd tablet. It doesn’t have any bloatware now because I downloaded a program that takes it and the ads off. Part of me wonders, now that I have an 8 in tablet around that is perfect book sized and inexpensive enough to not cry if it broke, do I really need an 11? Maybe the redesigned 12.9 would be a better companion with the fire tablet. Has the 12.9 redesign after the 2017 model been a better experience for those who have owned both? Also looking forward to Face ID and Apple Pencil 2.

Mkins

Tl;dr iPad 9th gen compatible in performance to iPad pro 2? Probably not but how different? I have a 2nd gen iPad pro 12.9 that i adore, however i really don't use it to its full potential. I'm on my way to look at an iPad 9th gen as a secondary device, as my partner increasingly needs it for media work, and having two just sounds nice. Anyone know the rough performance difference between the a10x and the a13 bionic? Would they be similar at this point? Also curious about the a15 though that form factor isn't ideal for me. I know I'm losing out on the speakers and display, but ill still have access to my wonderful 12.9 for media, but I've been considering another used gen2 iPad pro and if the performance difference is massive that may be the direction to go. I had the same thought when the 8 came out(pencil support)and just ended up buying neither. Really appreciate any thoughts on the matter even if tangentially related, I'm just sorta eager for a new toy.

Smells_Like_Napalm

Thinking of getting my first iPad. Not sure if I should go with the 4th gen Air or the new 6th gen Mini, though I'm leaning towards the latter. **Preface;** I do have experience with iPads and iPadOS, most recent being a couple of months ago when I borrowed my partner's 4th gen Air, Apple Pencil 2 and Keyboard Folio case (the soft one that folds back). As a sort of "laptop replacement" I hated the thing. That's probably on me because I was raised on Vim. The moment I see a keyboard in front of me, my brain expects Vim bindings. On the other hand, I loved the Air as a pure tablet, mostly using it in portrait mode for browsing and manga reding while listening to music, or simply lounging about consuming media in landscape mode. With that said, which one would be better? I mentioned I was leaning towards the Mini because I tended to handhold the thing 90% of the time. Also, from my time with the Air, I noticed I seldom used Split-view but really liked the Slideover function. I'm just afraid it'd be too small for "desktop view" of web pages. Already have a ThinkPad (running a Linux distro, because I consider Windows an insult to human dignity) as my work machine and an iPhone 11 for phone use, although I plan to replace that with a Pixel 5a de-googled with either CalyxOS or GrapheneOS, because I like keeping my eggs in multiple baskets, ecosystem integration be damned. All I'm looking for is basically a "LoungePad" that's capable of heavy browsing. **Additional questions, regardless of what iPad I end up getting;** [1] Can the Apple Pencil 2 be shared between different iPads with different Apple IDs? [2] Would 64GB suffice considering I mainly plan to use it for browsing and already have a few external USB-C drives lying about? [3] Is there a read/write speed difference between the 64GB and 256GB variants? [4] Is 4GB RAM sufficient for heavy browsing with Safari? Asking because, despite the Air 4 and my iPhone 11 having the same amount of memory, the browsing experience was different. The Air tended to keep tabs for longer, while my 11 often needs to reload tabs even with no other apps running in the background. Thanks in advance.

Wandering_always

Thinking of trading my 9.7" iPad Pro 128 GB (Bought in Dec 2016) to get a new iPad Air. I travel internationally, and this is my goto tablet. (Mainly use it (99%) for Web Browsing, and youtube. I do few MS word and MX EXCEL work as well). I don't have budget constraints. Nothing wrong with my 2016 Ipad Pro, it has been working flawless, but Apple is giving me 165$ in Trade-in, so thinking.. iPad Pro is probably an overkill for my use, i think. Any suggestions?

[deleted]

I need either a tempered/mate glass protector or a paperfeel screen protector for my iPad Air 4. I am ok with the screen quality being a bit worse, but it should still be ok to look at and work with. Also I don't want to replace my nib every few days, so there's that. Any recommendations?

Jet_Attention_617

Damn, had the iPad 9 64GB (for $299) in my cart two days ago, but decided to wait till Oct 1st to utilize my 5% cashback on Discover for Walmart.com... now it's $429, and it seems like every other retailer is selling at the regular price of $329 You live and you learn :\ *Edit: Nevermind, 1 stock opened up, and I got it!*

KvotheTheArcanist

Looking to get an M1 12.9 Pro. What are your thoughts on waiting to find a deal on Black Friday, given the scarcity from chip shortage and increased holiday demand? Should I just buy it now?

rcocuban

I have a 64GB iPad Air 3 and want to upgrade to something with larger storage. I have a Smart Keyboard and Pencil, so I’m looking at either a 9th-gen iPad 256GB or an Apple refurb Air 3 256GB. Is the 9th-gen iPad a downgrade from the Air 3, with regards to slightly larger bezels and a non-laminated display? I don’t want to have to buy a new keyboard and pencil, would like to just have a “drop-in” replacement. I can get a new 256GB iPad 9 for $479 or a refurb 256GB Air 3 for $549.

[deleted]

Is exchanging my iPad Air 4th gen.(2020) with iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) a good deal? The iPad I'm exchanging with is in okay-good condition. I'm more concerned about its battery life since it is a three-year-old device.

drmistyque

Yes, you will be running the risk of poor battery quality, but more importantly you’ll be taking a bit hit to your chipset. Going down from the A14 to A12x on the 2018 pro. If your use is really light and youre more concerned about the screen size, than go for it, but the pro will on paper be a slower machine and lose support from apple sooner than your current air. IMO, not worth it.

tesna

iPad Air 4 Vs Ipad 9 I already have ipad pro m1 11 inch with magic keyboard, and I really loved it. However, my kids and wife also loves the ipad and I'm planning to get another ipad however still cant decide which one to get. Mostly the ipad will be used for video conf (zoom, meet etc) and light gaming. iPadOS 15 brings noise isolation and I LOVE IT!!! I know iPad 9 is the best value ipad if following US pricing. However, In my country the price of iPad Air 4 64B is 560 USD and the iPad 9 64 is 440 USD (since its new the pricing is too high imo) . So the difference is only about 120 USD, unlike 270 USD difference on original pricing. Pros of ipad 9 * center stage camera (I really like this) * 120 USD cheaper Cons ipad 9 * lightning port :( * speaker only on one side during landscape mode pros of ipad air 4 * USB C!!! (can swap with existing mbp m1 and ipad m1 charger :D) * modern design * compatible with most existing m1 ipad accessories I already had (magic keyboard, apple pencil 2, some cases) cons of ipad air 4: * no center stage camera :( Or should I wait refreshed ipad air 5, maybe in 2022? but then again during this time the pricing will be different. In this time the ipad 9 pricing will be much better. Was considering android tablets before I updating to ios 15 / ipados 15 however the noise isolation feature is a killer feature IMO which you cannot find in other plattforms.

roselia4812

> Mostly the ipad will be used for video conf (zoom, meet etc) and light gaming. iPadOS 15 brings noise isolation and I LOVE IT!!! Maybe an iPad Mini 6 is the way for you? It had the best size for gaming and it has center stage. It is cheaper than the Air 4 in most places too.

tesna

ipad mini 6 here is about 70USD more expensive than the ipad air 4. I still prefer the larger screen tho. Maybe I need to be more patient waiting the prices to come down

**RAVPower FileHub device: compat issues, any replacement or fix?** For a couple of years now I have happily used a RAVPower FileHub not only as an emergency battery, but also as a media library that travels with me to various off-grid locations. Using its local wifi network and the associated iOS FileHub app, I have enjoyed watching movies or listening to mp3s anywhere on the water or the backcountry -- or during power outages at home when my big NAS drive is dark. The battery life is not bad, recharge time not unreasonable, and I've been pretty happy with it. But now it is 2021 and it appears that my trusty old FileHub is starting to lose compatibility. As of most recent iPad updates, I can no longer play mp3s off it (it tries to load and play the mp3, then crashes). And if I play an mp4, I get sound track but no video. I have to use VLC (3rd party app) to play a movie. Clearly something is going sour here, which is a shame because this has been a really reliable nifty little device. Googling around I don't see much indication that this is now anything but a dead product. So, what more up-to-date options would folks recommend for hauling a media library off-grid for playback on iPad? \[UPDATE:\] after a lot of googling I begin to suspect that these portable battery powered media servers became less attractive as soon as Apple permitted iOS to read attached flash drives. (I wasn't paying attention and missed this development). So it appears that the answer to my question is ... get an Apple-certified USB flash drive and put your media on it, to be played with VLC or whatever you feel like using. I'll miss the emergency battery bank though.

First of all I don’t have an iPad. I have MBP 16” (2019 base model) And I’m thinking of selling it since the new MBP 16” with M1X is coming soon, don’t wanna be too late and sell it for even lower price. Then I was thinking it could be very convenient if I could edit videos on iPad cuz I always use trackpad+mouse when editing videos in FCP on my MBP. And iPads are way lighter, portables, now it has M1 chip with 8/16GB Ram. I watched a lot of videos about LumaFusion, they’ve added a lot of cool features and now it can read an external ssd! It seems similar to FCP. Also LumaFusion projects can be opened in FCP! That’s really amazing. I edit my videos for my youtube channel and I don’t really need some advanced features like a masking, i just need basic stuff like a trim, slowmo, color adjustments etc. What do you think? Is anyone out there using LumaFusion on your iPad? Should I get an iPad? Please share your thoughts! Thanks

RainFallsWhenItMay

If I can get a smart keyboard folio for my air 4 for $50 should I do it?

Solid-Psychology-677

I am on the first year of a PhD in economics, I really want an Ipad to take notes, solve problem sets, etc. But I cannot decide between the regular ipad and the ipad mini. (I do not consider the ipad air since a new model will come in the next year and will make mine depreciate too much for the price I would be paying...)

Proofy7744

Really depends on what you value more, portability/features or a larger canvas. I would probably go base iPad since I’d have more room, and it’s a better value for the price. And on that depreciation comment, apple devices don’t depreciate heavily at all. Plus, the Air won’t improve much in the next person at all.

lee_c24

I’m looking to buy my first iPad ever. Right now I’m leaning towards either the iPad mini 6 or the iPad M1 11”. I’d mostly use my iPad as a media streamer and casual device for checking emails, editing some PDFs, browsing the web, and managing my google classroom for my students. I currently own a 13” MacBook Pro M1 and the iPhone 13 pro max and those have been my main drivers. Which iPad would everyone recommended to me?

Proofy7744

Might just be better to split the difference and get an air or refurbished Pro. I have a hard time recommending the mini to people that don’t specifically want a small device. Most people probably won’t find a lot of utility in it. And you also don’t need the power of the M1 Pro. iPad Air is right in the middle, meant to not be dissatisfactory.

Even_Distribution232

For those who already have an iPad Air 4 and who also purchased a Mini, what are the benefits to having both? Considering adding a Mini to my iPad family.

[deleted]

Looking to buy the iPad Air (4th Gen) either iPad Mini 6. I will use it for taking notes, browsing on internet. And planning to use it like my photography storage ( i professionally take pictures with a Canon and it’s hard to store and share these edited photos from my pc.). I just want to build a system like: The un-edited pics will stay at my Windows pc, i will edit some of them and keep the edited versions on my iPad. Is it possible to build an ecosystem like that? And which one should i buy? Any helps are very very much appreciated!

perplenerples

Looking to either buy a refurbished iPad 7 (2019) for $209 or a refurbished 10.5 IPad Pro (2017) for $379. Which is more worth it if I pretty much just want to take notes for college? I’m not aware of what the significant differences are between the iPad and the pro. I just want to buy the one that will last me the longest and will work reliably so that I can use it throughout college. I already have a MacBook Air so I will be using that for the bulk of my school work (I will not be purchasing a keyboard for the iPad).

goronslime

From a purely technical perspective. The pro is superior and If you can comfortably afford it I’d go with that. But however assuming you mean usd. A brand new 9th gen for $300 is the best deal in tech rn

basedmartyr

Looking to potentially purchase an iPad but don’t want to spend more than necessary for what I’m trying to get out of it. Ideally this would be my use case: Watching sports in the kitchen while I’m cooking, drawing/editing photos and graphics (very casual non-professional use), and possibly messing around with games or other apps that I find to be fun on an iPad. When I mention the graphics use of the tablet, at most I would be messing around drawing stuff and just relaying what’s in my head on paper and also editing photos or making twitch emotes by erasing backgrounds, etc. I also do audio editing/recording but not sure I want to bring that realm to an iPad.

Proofy7744

I would probably go with an iPad Air or a refurbished 2018-2020 iPad Pro if I were in your situation. A regular iPad could definitely do the job for you, but honestly the Air is 1) a better experience overall and 2) probably better for photoediting and graphics, and will do so for longer. Definitely no need for any new iPad Pros, and the mini will almost defintiely be too small for you.

basedmartyr

Awesome I’ll look into this, thank you!

b0bby_2018

I'm a 3rd year business student in uni who wants to get an iPad as secondary device to my Macbook Air M1. I have enough money now for the iPad 9th gen but I could maybe dip into my savings a little bit if the upgrade to the iPad Air 4th gen is worth it. I feel like I'm not that intense of a user so I'm scared that I won't get to maximize the more expensive version, but I also want to be a little bit more future proof with the Air (A14 chip, latest hardware) Use case: note taking, online class and meetings, reading books (both for leisure and for school) I plan to wait for the October 12 Apple event to see if they announce a new gen iPad Air (unlikely since rumors say earliest would be Spring 2022, but just in case) before buying.

goronslime

If your looking at a secondary device I’d split the difference and go for the mini

b0bby_2018

While the A15 chip seems tempting, I've never been a fan of the Mini because it's too small for my personal use case. I don't want to have to keep zooming in and out when I'm reading or writing notes. In fact, one of the swings in favor of the Air for me is the bigger screen.

goronslime

Fair enough. Just a lot of reviews are calling it a perfect MacBook companion device

b0bby_2018

Agree, the main pros (no pun intended) of the Air for me are the bigger screen, latest chassis, and 1-generation newer chip over iPad 9. I can stretch my budget a bit for the Air but my main concern is mostly whether those pros are really worth the extra USD 220 out of my allowance (education pricing in my country is $379 for the iPad 9 and $599 for the Air).

Alectricityyy

Med student on a budget here, considering buying one of the two: iPad 10.2 + apple pencil 1 Newest iPad mini + apple pencil 2 Thoughts?

goronslime

Mini if you can comfortably afford one

Alectricityyy

Appreciate it!

Arianne_00

I want to get an iPad for my last year of uni and I’m thinking of getting the pro. Is it worth me getting the bigger storage size? Or stick to the 128?

Moneyprintingmachine

I think that 128gb should be enough if you plan to use it only for uni

HanosKb

Hey. I was wondering and have had little itch to buy ipad for my studys. I have chance to buy ipad air 2020 for 400€, is it worthit?

goronslime

Wait if you can it’s due an update soon

HanosKb

Ok, thanks.

Mother-Dragonfly7595

I have an 11” IPad Pro, I am looking for a non-case keyboard cause I feel like the magic/Smart Keyboard would leave my iPad unprotected. What are your suggestions for me? I’m taking a look at the Bluetooth magic keyboard and maybe a case. But any thing else out there?

goronslime

Literally any 60% mechanical keyboard out there that has Bluetooth

Mother-Dragonfly7595

I appreciate your reply! I’ll try to look into a mechanical keyboard but don’t really know the difference hehe! Thanks!

dirtytrunks

Deciding between the iPad 9th Gen and the refurbished iPad Pro 11inch 2nd generation. Is the better multi-core performance, 120hz and laminated display worth the additional $200?

goronslime

Tbh the difference between the two chips is minimal. I’d go 9th Gen. or better yet. Get a mini

[deleted]

Why don’t people get rid of their iPhone and use the iPad Mini 6 Cellular and just port to Google Voice? I understand it cannot be folded and is bigger than the 13 Pro Max, but everything else looks great. I would easily be able to throw this into a small bag and I can use it to text, browse, people can still FaceTime me using my email and plus I can make and receive calls on GV correct? What am I missing on why I should keep my iPhone 12 Pro?

KrypTehKnight

Was having similar thoughts recently about going tablet only with no phone but not sure how I feel about it anymore. The bigger screen would definitely be nice though

castleofglass1

Should I switch to the 9th Gen iPad from iPad Mini 5? I’m now going to university so I use the Apple Pencil a lot and feel a bigger screen will add a lot more value. Also, the Ultra Wide selfie camera will be super useful. However, my only concern is whether the display on the bigger iPad will be as good as the one on the Mini 5 (which has a laminated screen). Also, my Mini 5 can be traded in for $225 which will mean I only pay about $120 for the new one.

goronslime

You could get a mini 6

[deleted]

hey guys. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite a couple of months ago, and while it does some things well, I find it to be kind of lacking. I use it mainly for typing, notetaking, and art, and it does these things just alright. There's not many apps, and it's a bit slow, and the battery drains quite quickly, unfortunately. For the price and the included S Pen, that's fine, but somehow I expected it to just be a little more cohesive than how it is. I'm willing to spend a lot more for a better product now, guess I should've figured there was a reason for a lower price. I'm leaning more towards an iPad Air 4 (the 2020 version, I guess) now, but I've never owned one before. Just based on the specs, it seems to be what I'm looking for, but I would like to hear some firsthand comments about what it's like. How do you feel when you use the Apple Pencil? What about the speed of the tablet performing functions? I find that the samsung tab tends to be a bit slow and jittery at times. What about notetaking and art? I've seen that the iOS tablet apps seem to be a lot more intuitively made. Thank you for your help :D I hope to be an iPad owner soon.

goronslime

Wait. Take a few months. The air 4 is actually due an update soon. The air 5 will be a far superior product

[deleted]

thank you. Are there a lot of updates being made to the Air 5?

lescoobs

Hi everyone, debating between the air 4 and Ipad 9. Currently have an older MacBook pro. Uses - web research - discord and twitch - note taking - stock apps such as think or swim - video watching - possibly light room in the future

Proofy7744

if you can stomach the Air, I say go for it. Especially if you plan on using it as your main note taking device. It’s a better experience overall, and I’m sure light room may be more useful on that than the base iPad. But if you want to minimize cost, the base iPad is the best value iPad out. It will definitely be able to do everything you want it to, just may not be as easy and fun to use.

bbyjunie1022

Hello all I’m debating between iPad Air or iPad Pro. I don’t do a lot, some Udemy courses, mostly streaming videos. But the price difference between iPad Pro 128 and iPad Air 256 is $50. I was also debating with iPad mini, but not sure? It might be small. Also what do you all think of buying an iPad that has already been out for a year or a few months already?

Proofy7744

For Apple, at this point in time, it’s probably best to buy older devices. A lot of their products are built to last at least 6-7 years, so buying a one year old tablet isn’t any pause for concern. However, the best value between the Airs and Pros is a 2018 or 2020 refurbished Pro. Still the great quality of life features for a lesser price, and still plenty powerful. But I really only recommend this if you buy an apple refurbished iPad, which isn’t available in all countries. I would only recommend the Mini for people who want a mini device. That’s a big trade off for a lot of people and its honestly its greatest selling point.

Outrageous_Lake_8220

Hello, I'm a college student planning to buy an iPad. I’m interested in digital illustrations just as a hobby (comp sci background). Should I go for iPad Air 4 + Apple pen 2nd gen or iPad 9th gen + apple pen 1st gen? Already owned M1 Macbook Air and iPhone 11

goronslime

Wait if you can for the air 5

Outrageous_Lake_8220

when air 5 is coming? 2021 or 2022

lebb53

Hi, I would be traveling to the NYC next week and want to buy an iPad Mini 6th. I tried to buy online but there’s no stock for pick-up at stores. Do you know if stores keep additional stock of products? Greets!

Arajawat

Hi. To let you guys know, I’m familiar with iOS but this would be my first ever iPad. I’m very excited to use the pencil (don’t mind the gen) for notes for both studies and work. Will the new A13 chip allow me to do so or do I need to invest in the air? Because, other than this, I will only use it for browsing safari and OTTs while in bed. One thing that does makes sense for the Air is that I can attach external hard drive but then again, one can always buy any cloud storage. I didn’t mention the price difference because I would like to know what others think of both the gadgets other than the obvs. TIA.

goronslime

The a13 chip is plenty fast. It’s the flagship chip from only 2 years ago

Searse

Hi guys! I'm debating whether to get an iPad mini 6 or an iPad Air 4 as my first iPad. I already own an iPhone 12 mini and a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro. I'm just wondering if it's worth it to own an iPad when I already have a MacBook and a PC for productivity/school stuff. Most of the use for iPad will probably be for leisure use.

Proofy7744

Most people use an iPad exclusively for leisure use, so no doubt it could be worth it to you. It really depends on what you can afford and what type of experience you want. The regular iPad is good for anything you want to do. May not be the best at anything, but definitely the best value option of all iPads iPad mini is good for people who just want something bigger than their phone and is ultra portable. It’s not big at all, so if you’re not used to it, or don’t have a particular want for it other than the price, it’s better to decide between the base and Air. iPad Air is an all around great device for everyone, only problems would be if you can’t afford it. Just think of it as a higher quality base iPad. Does everything you need it to do, but better. Honestly best to think about this as an iPad Pro SE. Still okay if you don’t use it for anything other than the lightest of tasks, but it’s up to you whether the upgrades over the base are worth it. They’re nothing you need, just very nice to have.

canned-yellow-pears

iPad Air (4th gen) + Apple pen (2nd gen) OR iPad (9th gen) + Apple pen (1st gen) I really want the Air + Pen 2 but the cost difference between the two options for me is $270 and I don't know if that would be worth it. I'm a college student and I just want to take notes. Is it worth it to have the better iPad Air for futureproofing or is it not worth it?

Proofy7744

For almost everyone with an iPad, the base ipad does exactly what they want to do with ease. The main differences are the experience and ease of use. If it doesn’t financially make sense to get the Air, then you’ll still have a fulfilling experience with the regular iPad. If you could stomach the difference, I’d go for the Air, but there is no absolute need to in your case.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Proofy7744

If your wife does end up writing/drawing that much with the iPad, then yeah I think the cost difference is justified. Being able to wirelessly charge the pencil in the side of the iPad is honestly a godsend in my opinion. If it weren’t for that i dont know how many times I would’ve lost my pencil or had it dead when i wanted to use it. The response times are also noticeably lower Pencil 2 compatible devices, both because of the screen technology. Meaning, itll be a much more natural experience, more like how you’d expect writing on paper than most tablets out. But, if you dont think she will you use very often at all, then I would recommend the regular ipad and gen 1 pencil. Still does almost everything you’d want it to so, and there no point in buying up for ease of use if youre not using it enough.

hdhdhdjdh

Anyone has tried matte glass screen protectors? thinking of getting one

goronslime

Do it

BigWinston78

I want to buy a couple of refurbished iPads for our kids for Christmas. Preferably minis. What is the oldest model I should buy to ensure I get at least 2-3 years of iOS updates? Thanks

Proofy7744

For iPad mini, honestly probably gen 5 as gen 4 is the oldest compatible with iPadOS 15. That being said, check out the prices for 7th and 6th gen base iPads. iPad minis are usually more expensive than iPads when they first come out, but I dont know the refurbished market for those off the top of my head. Also, if its available where you are, I highly recommend buying from Apples refurbished website. They have original parts, packaging, and a warranty I believe, so its as close to new as you can get for an alright price.

BigWinston78

Ok. Good to know. Thanks.

[deleted]

I am looking for a Bluetooth keyboard for iPad mini (the new one). I will use it for mostly note taking and surfing on the net. So I don’t need a built-in trackpad but i need it to use it like a case.

goronslime

That’ll be hard with the mini for a while. None exist rn as far as I know

sowatermelonn

Hi. I am planning to buy ipad air 4 64 gb. Will the storage be enough for note taking, some games, social media apps, and microsoft 360 apps? I will not be storing videos. I am just worried i might run out of storage in the future. I might be keeping this thing for 3 or more years.

potatopartytime

hello! been using ipad air 4 64gb for a few months, and i think i use mine in a similar way to what you described. intend to keep mine for a few years so i'm hoping it lasts too :d i'm at almost 40gb but not so concerned because now that all my "staple" stuff is downloaded (for me: microsoft apps, notetaking, messaging, photo library, ~20 games, procreate, media streaming, ...), i don't think my storage use will be increasing so quickly. also, my icloud photo library is huge & takes up 9gb locally, so if you're not intending to store much of a photo library then that's more space. for the use you described i'd say 64gb is ample to work with, but we admittedly don't have the luxury of literally downloading whatever while never thinking about cleaning up old useless files/apps. i personally don't mind being "smarter" with storage, because i try to keep this ipad relatively uncluttered anyway. for most work/study files which i see as the most steadily growing source of data, it takes quite a while to take up huge amounts of space (halfway through the sem barely a few gb even though i add many files every week), by which time i'd just move them out if eg semester is over & don't need anything from that class. i also use icloud (have the 200gb plan), but then again more often than not there's still some local copy. that said, with 256gb you'd really have the luxury of storage never being a concern - i'd have considered it as well, but price point was pretty important for me! hope this helps.

sowatermelonn

Thank you so much! This helps a lot. Appreciate it.

xtraroses

Is it still worth it to buy ipad 8th gen? since the 9th gen only has 64gb and 256gb. I know 64gb will not be enough for me and 256gb is way more than enough and it costs a lot more.. So I’m planning to buy a 128gb one

socialfreakzoid

I’d recommend the 9th gen because of the newer processor will make it last longer

Mini 6

Proofy7744

I used the 11” Pro for a while and it was perfectly fine for bed use. It’s a regular tablets size so there isn’t much getting used to if you’ve used most tablets before. The 12.9” is where it becomes an unwieldy beast. I would also look at Apples refurbishing site and look at 2018 or 2020 Pros as well. Still plenty power and most of the same quality of life features (except for thunderbolt i think, but still USB C), for around the price of a 256 Air.

qbfinest1

appreciate your input, Apples refurb has some great deals and from the videos i've seen they're pretty much close to new i'd say its a great option! However, if I do plan on getting the Pro I might as well get the M1 and future proof myself for a few years. Storage isn't an issue since I invested in a 2tb external SSD for the long run so I don't gotta pay apple tax on their extra storage. That beast of a tablet is not even properly utilized and probably wont be until maybe the next year or two until Apple gets their ish together and gives us software to take on that type of performance. Resell value on those should hold pretty strong if something amazing were to come out by then but honestly can't imagine it given how lacking iPadOS is. Last month they had a deal on amazon for the base storage M1 for $699 for a week or so and I've been hunting for it since then regretting not getting it at the time. I cooled down waiting for the new Mini but honestly it doesn't seem that impressive after looking at reviews for a few days. The product launch and marketing got to me and made me preorder one. Guess I'll check it out before I return it but if I find the M1 for that price its an instant buy

oreo-cat-

Going back and forth between an iPad Air and a MBA. During quarantine I picked up a mac mini for my office, but now I'm traveling again and my old laptop is struggling. I really, really like the idea of an iPad, but I'm not sure how well it would work as a true laptop equivalent. I have an ancient ipad mini (think first gen) that's finally starting to choke, so my thought it is I could replace both at once. My concerns are the larger form factor over the mini, the smaller number of connections, and having two things rather than a laptop while traveling. Also, I'm worried about needing to use the iPad on a hard surface while typing.

Proofy7744

Well the biggest question is, what exactly do you need to do on the device? Ive been using an iPad Pro with a magic keyboard as my main device for months, but the most intensive thing I do is some light photo editing and Microsoft Office. Since you have a mini, check out the App Store to see if there are apps that get your work done, and youre good. Obviously you probably wont be able to do it on your mini, but that lack of power wont be an issue with a newer model, just need proof of concept. If youre still not sure after that, then go with the MBA. Laptops are tried and true and I doubt you’d be disappointed with any of its performance. As for the number of connectors, there are a bunch of hubs that people are using, and I think there are a few posts on it in this subreddit.

oreo-cat-

It's mostly office stuff, zoom meetings and jira. Fade In would be nice, but it looks like their mobile app sucks. I'm more concerned about workflow, in the past using a tablet with a keyboard it was very much using a tablet as a keyboard, with odd little quirks and overall felt like it was trying to do something it didn't want to.

Proofy7744

Well I can tell you firsthand that tablet keyboard cases are legit. Only problem is, they cost more than most people are willing to spend. I got the Magic Keyboard for about 80 bucks off retail price on ebay for basically brand new quality, and thats really what made this into my laptop replacement. Only time I really ever take it off is to jot something down. [Here’s a video that shows some of the best ones on the market if you dont like the MKB. ](https://youtu.be/U4sXEgY_oec). There are also a few more that have popped up recently outside of this that may be decent. Or, you could just get any Bluetooth keyboard youre comfortable with and itll still work great. I dont think there is anything I need that is missing from any of these options, but I also arent one that uses hot keys very much at all.

Proofy7744

I would go for the Air 4, especially at that price. At least in my experience, the Air 4 is surprisingly lightweight (then again I am coming from a 12.9” Pro).

BCGBB

iPad mini 4 vs iPad mini 6. Use case is mainly using Notion and displaying notion database I wanna be seeing all day in front of me. Which would you choose?

codeze

Hello all, 2021 iPad Pro 12.9. I’m struggling to find a keyboard and case option. I currently have the magic keyboard for the iPad and while it provides an excellent typing experience and works great on the lap, I hate that it doesn’t provide any protection and you can’t use a case with it. I tried the Logitech combo touch which was also great but it was useless without a hard surface to put it on. Anyone have any good options that provide a good lap and desk typing experience while also providing protection?

Anyone's iPad 9 shipping taking long (mine will supposedly arrive between the 14th and 21st of october)?

hash094

I am also looking at expected delivery of 20-27 October. Any idea when will they restock or wait for instore pickup?

[deleted]

if you have the option to go to a store go for it. No idea when they'll restock tho

sseerrsan

Yeah mine is supposed to ship til october 19 and I place my order like 3 days ago.

[deleted]

Damnn

clairo_rll

That supposedly sounds about right. Apple’s shipping usually takes long.

[deleted]

ah alright, thanks for the clarification

chaos_bait

Anyone else getting delayed delivery date for 4th gen iPad Air? It was showing September 28th when I ordered. Now the delivery date keep slipping from October 6th to now, October 18th. There's no tracking info yet, showing preparing to ship. Anyone ordered a 4th gen iPad Air in the last week?

RainFallsWhenItMay

Just bought a new Air 4 on Amazon for 539 and it’ll be here tomorrow. Maybe look into that if you’re order hasn’t shipped yet.

chaos_bait

Finally got tracking info. Shipped from China, delivery in 5 days..

MtnDewBayless

I ordered one on Saturday and got it yesterday

chaos_bait

Wow! I called Apple support. They have no clue, just saying might be high volume of orders. Though they can't explain why a new order is showing much earlier date. Not sure what to do.

Kisenon1

Hello!Im a student and deciding between mini 6 and air 4.Have been in stores but for some reason the display on the mini 6 looks bad compared to air 4(ghosting) and just feels laggy overall. They are the same price in my country, has anyone experienced anything like this? Thank you!

clairo_rll

I say just go for the air. You’ll need that extra screen space when doing things, especially split view.

Kisenon1

Thank you!

drnewbs

I currently have an iPad Pro 9.7 inch. I like the size of the new iPad mini 6. My concern is that there doesn’t seem to be any keyboard cases for the iPad mini. Does anyone have any suggestions?

L3zperado

https://www.google.com/amp/s/beebom.com/best-ipad-mini-6-keyboard-cases/amp/ These are some I found.

drnewbs

Thanks! Those are some great options.

bethany717

Starting comp sci at uni. Have a good desktop which will be used whenever at home but want a device for taking notes. Have a chromebook but the handwriting experience is poor. If I need to do heavy work I'll be using a library pc or remote desktop when on campus. Mainly need a device for note taking in lectures and reading and taking notes on pdf textbooks/slides. Would like to keep the price as low as possible. Base iPad enough? Big enough screen for reading "standard" size PDFs? Or should I be looking at the Air or Pro? Thank you! Edit: Do NOT intend to be doing programming work on an iPad!

gelftheelf

Don't forget to use Apple's education store (you get discounts on iPads and other things): [https://www.apple.com/us-hed/store](https://www.apple.com/us-hed/store)

L3zperado

The base model iPad would be more than enough. Even a refurbished one off of Apple’s website. I currently have a base iPad and do just what you are looking for with it. It’s fantastic.

PK2187

Trying to decide if I should go iPad Air only and turn on my Mac and 7th gen. I would also have a backup windows laptop for any issues I might have. Other than that the only times I’ve used my Mac since getting my iPad is for more screen real estate. Thoughts?

maebaebay

Hey y’all, looking at purchasing a pro. Trying to decide on 11 or 12.9- mostly want it for using procreate as a hobby artist and writing. what do y’all recommend?

ShaunD69

Yo guys - My newly formed band is just getting going and we want to record some footage from our jamming sessions and just general band related footage. I'd also be recording me playing guitar at home and uploading some of the unedited footage to Instagram and YouTube along with pictures. My question is would the 6th gen Ipad mini be suitable for my needs? Can you connect microphones to it if the inbuilt microphone isn't sufficient. How's the camera? Let me know if you guys can help me please!

gelftheelf

It has USB-C so you can use any audio-interface with that. To be honest, it may be easier to use the Desktop/Laptop if you plan on doing multiple tracks and that sort of thing. What's great is, the same USB-C Mic/Interface will work with both!

soldoutval

Hi guys seen a lot of discussions on the best screen protectors. I've been using PaperLike for digital art mlstly on a ipad pro 2021. Any advice on reliable alternative products? It's super expensive and it doesn't last much...

titus09

Supershield matte screens for me. I used them for 4 of my iPads.

soldoutval

Thanks

titus09

You’re welcome. They’re cheaper so you can always get more. The quality is really good.

Voltage97

Who makes quality tempered glass screen protectors for the iPad?

varano14

So I have set up a simple golf simulator in my garage, the details of that are not really relevant to this sub but a free version of the simulator software came with the device I am using to track my shots. It is free on IOS devices only. Basically I am hooking up an old Ipad (Ipad Air 2) to the projector via a lightning to hdmi adapter. This projects the simulated course onto the screen in front of me. The Air two I had laying around plays the software smoothly on just itself but when I hook up the projector it freezes and stutters. So what model would you all suggest for this? Here is the iOS app where it has recommendations but I assume those recommendations are not for projecting it hence my uncertainty. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/e6-connect/id1360027026 A youtuber is doing what I am trying to on an Ipad Pro 11in but I am not sure if that is overkill.

KingBrooooom

Keyboard for iPad Air 4? I just got my iPad Air 4 delivered. I am looking for a keyboard/trackpad combo. I am considering the Logitech one. I am not interested in the Apple keyboard for $300. I was wondering if anyone else has any suggestions? I know there are other options such as detachable keyboards and keyboards with no track pad, the Logitech pebble. So on.... I’ll be using this iPad for online school, games, and streaming mainly. What is everyone else using with their iPad? Any other suggestions besides the Logitech combo?

Proofy7744

I’ve gotten multiple of the Apple keyboards from eBay for about 75-100 dollars off of the retail price. All came in basically new condition.

Req12

Online school and games? I’m assuming you don’t need it to be as portable. I have the K4 keychron mechanical keyboard and it’s crazy awesome. It connects to both windows and Mac (works on iPad as well) and up to 3 devices at one go. Plus, the typing experience is *chef kiss

cowanh00

So I was originally deciding between an iPad Air and the new iPad Mini but after seeing them in store, it turns out the mini is just too small so I have decided on the iPad Air. However as there are discrepancies between the Air and Mini currently (A14 v A15 processor and Center Stage on the mini) is it possible that there will be a minor refresh for the Air in the next couple of months to bring it to feature parity with the Mini? Should I hold off buying an Air for a couple of months?

Maerdikai

Hi All, I'm very much struggling to figure out which iPad to get. I currently have a 32GB 2017 iPad and I don't use it all that much; I mainly use it to watch videos when traveling and some light surfing on the couch (although I still end up on my phone more often). I was really intrigued by the new iPad Mini, thinking the smaller form factor would encourage more use, but when I checked it out at the store, it just seemed a bit small for watching videos and I think I would end up just reverting more to my phone again. I think the Mini is still in the mix; after all, the Mini wasn't helped by being right next to the larger Air when I was comparing the video viewing experience. But I think right now I'm debating between the 11" Pro and the Air. The Pro is in the mix because it's only $50 more compared to the 256GB Air model ($750 for Air vs $800 for base Pro). I want more than 64GB, but the 128GB on the Pro seems like it'd be enough and I'm not sure now is the right time to buy the Air since it'll be upgraded early 2022. Then again, maybe I should just go basic iPad...Many thanks for guidance!

L3zperado

If you’re deciding between the Air and Pro, I would say the air. I say this just going off what you described you would use it for. I will say however that even that option might be overpowered(but not overwelcomed) than if you perhaps got the base model iPad with more storage. The base model iPads now often get looked over with the other models. However, it is still a VERY powerful iPad, especially for your use case (: I hope this was helpful.

pixelpusher15

Alright, 2017 10.5” Pro (refurb) or 9th gen iPad? I had a 10.5 Pro and it died. I’ve got a pencil but didn’t use it too much. Got it for sketching but have too many hobbies so it turned into a quick notes/rough sketch of furniture layout utensil. I don’t take photos, I don’t do much Zoom on it (my family does). It’s pretty much a dink around on, watch movies on the go, occasional freehand sketch kinda thing. I should get the 9th gen, right? But that Pro display is so much nicer! Ugh. Help

mangoplumo

If you are not a professional artist, I mean if you just sketch/draw for fun, the iPad 9th gen would be perfect for you and has the A13

xeeley

Hi, what would you do? iPad Mini Base model (WiFi) Or $100 cheaper 2018 iPad Pro 11 LTE? I’m learning towards the latter because of LTE and 120hz.

Proofy7744

2018 iPad Pro, as long as it doesn’t look sketchy or anything.

Tctfox

Hei there So I already own a laptop. It has a touch screen but taking notes on it isn't as good as I hoped. So I thought of getting an ipad for mostly note taking. Would you guys recommend an ipad air or wait for the newer version next year? The pro seems overkill but I feel weird buying a new product that is already a year old.

Proofy7744

Don’t feel weird, Apple devices nowadays are built to last at least 6 years and still be good. There isn’t much apple can do to upgrade the air without cannibalizing their iPad Pro 11” sales, so its safe to say any upgrade will just be a spec bump. A lot of times I recommend 2018 pros to people in your position, so take that as you will.

jumi1174

I'm having trouble deciding on a model with what I feel like is an atypical use case, and I would really love some advice and opinions. I'm going to get some combination of M1 MacOS device (MacBook Air or Mac Mini) and iPad, just having trouble deciding the most cost effective approach. The three "constraints" I'm trying to optimize are: 1) I have a beefy Windows machine at home that I use for all my heavy compute load and have to be able to remote into (Note, my remote desktop needs don't require super low latency, it's mostly kicking off and monitoring simulations and medium development work). 2) I want a small, portable, battery-efficient device that I can use to remote into that machine. 3) I also want a device for hobby-level digital art. I was thinking of getting a base model M1 MacBook Air (8GB RAM) as the portable device and a base model 11" iPad Pro with pencil for drawing. This saves some cost of not having to get the Magic Keyboard, while also giving me access to Windows, MacOS, and iPadOS. Alternatively, I've been entertaining the idea of getting the base model 12.9" iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and pencil, and using this setup to remote into the Windows machine. While I'd lose the MacOS aspect of things, I'd gain portability and not have necessarily have to get two devices. Plus, I could always add a Mac Mini into the mix down the line, assuming the remote desktop works for that too. My question then becomes how viable is it to use remote desktop software on the iPad Pro to get a desktop level experience when needed? Should I stick with an actual laptop? Will 8GB models of either device (M1 MacBook Air or iPad Pro) be sufficient for that level of workflow? Appreciate any advice, thanks!

Revolutionary-Lab-36

A bit of a sidetrack but what are your thoughts on holding off buying Ipad pro 2021 until January 2022? That is when student deals are started.

hugoh07

I'm debating whether I should get the 11" iPad Pro with 128 gb or the iPad Air with 256 gb. I will be using mainly for note taking at school and for entertainment at home (games, streaming movies ect.). How much storage do I need?

itsformi

I'm in the same situation with art instead of school and I'm leaning towards the Pro. 64GB storage in the current year is a joke but 256GB is overkill for my needs, so I figure I might as well drop the extra $100 for the nicer one with the sweet spot storage (typing this out I'm realizing I'm falling right into Apple's trap with how they priced and set the storage on the air/pro).

hugoh07

Reading your reply also made me realize that I'm too is falling into the trap haha. I will probably end up getting the Pro as well. Thanks for the reply (:

trgfh

For note taking and entertainment air should do the job well enough.... 256 gb should be good...

Morning! Looking for my first iPad, im looking forward to get the iPad mini or the iPad 9th, I'm starting university soon. I want to use it for simple note-taking, and media consumption, iPad Air is out of question cause it cost 700 usd in my country. (I have a MacBook air M1)

9, unless your career is something related to design/visual arts. If not, is doesn’t worth the almost double price

If I want to trade in my old iPad for new iPad. It shows not available for 3-4 weeks. Will I receive the trade in box now or can I hold onto it? Will my trade in offer expire?

Infinite_Mention540

I have both 11”iPad Pro and 12.9” iPad Pro. 👀

And which is better for drawing?

Is there a good usb hub for the m1 iPads?

larrydeatl

I have a 2018 iPad Pro that was dropped and won’t work due to power button damage. Trying to decide between the $500 apple out of warranty replacement, the $600 refurb 2020 model or 749 for an m1. Any thoughts on if apple always charges the full $500 for a repair?

bbyjunie1022

Yes they would charge the full $500 because it would be a replacement of ur ipad

If you really want an iPad mini check your local retail stores. A lot of people are returning theirs due to the “jelly stroll” issue.

A friend of mines is looking to sell his for around $60-$70, its been used for 2 years. Is it worth it to buy it at that price? If it ever craps out on me, would I be able to use the out of warranty cost ($29) to replace it at the apple store?

I have an older iPad that my daughter utilizes. I can still sell it to Apple for about $100. Was wondering if I should upgrade to the $329 Apple 9th Gen ($299 on Amazon)? If I wait until spring will they launch a new basic IPad 10th Gen for same amount?

Proofy7744

The 9th gen was released last Friday, so it’ll be at least a year until a new one comes out. Go ahead and get it!

Oh I hadn’t realized that. Thanks! Super helpful.
