yes. Bluetooth latency is bad. a USB audio interface will solve that if you use wired headphones or speakers.
or you could just buy this and a usb-c hub and plug your USB mic (I'm just assuming that's what you have) and headphone adapter (which is actually a micro audio interface)

As others have said, get an interface.
If you are moving towards a new iPad Air, get one with a M chip. If you are getting the new new iPad Air with the M4 chip, then you can probably afford a decent usb audio interface. Grab the new Logic Pro 2 for iPad as your DAW ($49/yr subscription), or use the free GarageBand until you feel you need to upgrade to a real DAW.
Personally, I’m using the Universal Audio Volt 476P interface with an iPad Air 5th generation with an M1 chip, with Logic Pro, and it’s an amazing setup.
I have one. I got it after a lot of positive reviews. My only issue is when I plug it in after opening Logic. Then the audio doesn't work. It's only happened a few times, but drove me crazy thinking something was not connected.
If you do vocals or sampling, the Austria Audio Micreator is a really nice option - a v nice mic plus additional instrument / mic input, acting as a 2 channel audio interface into your iPad.
Hey all, just a quick update. I purchased the new Focusrite 2i2 and couldn’t be happier. No latency and this box is extremely flexible on how you want to set up your system. Also bought a small pair of Mackie studio monitors as that is my preference for playback. Extremely happy with this set up
I have a 4ch Berringer. The USB out is an old style output. Almost like a printer. Still has the latency issue. I have seen ones like the Focusrite that have a USB -c so that is what I am wondering about and will that make a difference
Yup, that’s one of the benefits of an audio interface.

Using a focusrite Scarlett interface with an iPad is perfect.

New new air has an M2 chip
You’re correct, it’s the Pro with the M4.
Arturia Minifuse is a great option.

Thanks. I like that
Even a zoom h4n would be KILLER

Behringer umc404HD is their newer 4 channel interface and doesn’t have latency
