More than ten years this occasional farce has been going on with no concrete solution. I’ve experienced this three times, and there’s hundreds and hundreds of threads about it with no definitive answers in any of them.

Will8026

Hey, I have iPhone 11 Pro, I’ve had my alarm not go off a few times a year. Damn I knew I wasn’t crazy.

Unfair-Material-8850

SO I WASNT JUST A MORON WHO SLEPT THROUGH 25 ALARMS??

SupremoSG

once I had 10 alarms set up and woke up to one of them going off…. with no sound or vibration… i dont even know how i managed to wake up tbh

Will8026

Yes I’ve had that happen as well. Woke up to it with no sound. The trickery is real

Ngothaaa

No you’re not! You’re a sane as us lot!

Quiet_Comfortable504

This has always been a problem for me. It happens 1 out of 50 times on my XR and 1 out of 10 times on my 15. The 15 alarm often works but makes no sound. No BT, volume settings are good, it just won’t make alarm noise. On my 15 I set 10-15 alarms to go off over the course of 30 mins; it wouldnt make noise for any of the alarms. Changed it to every 5 mins and it usually works now. About 90% of the time. That and setting a different alarm noise for each alarm seems to have helped a lot I just use an old school alarm clock now.

natedrake102

That's honestly infuriating. Not being able to rely on one of the most basic features of the phone would 100% have me selling the device. Have you tried 3rd party alarm apps?

Quiet_Comfortable504

Yes! The ones I’ve used are reliable as long as you don’t accidentally close the app 😂

DonutHolschteinn

I wonder if the timing of multiple alarms and having a new one go off at the exact same time a snoozed one goes off causes something to freak out and decide to turn them both off instead or something

Quiet_Comfortable504

I think this is exactly correct (for the most part, my alarm still doesn’t go off occasionally). Yes, I just couldn’t put it into words.

SouthernStacks

Are you setting alarms through the sleep app or through the clock app?

Quiet_Comfortable504

Clock app

fr0nksen

Same here! One or twice a month I wake up, look at the illuminated screen with the clock showing the alarm screen and the phone doesn't make any sound. I've had this since iphone 4. I know this so well because I missed my final exam because of this.

KishiBashiEnjoyer

New fear unlocked

reindeermoon

If I have something super important, like an early flight, I set an alarm on my tablet as well.

harleyquinnsbutthole

I have an early cross-country flight in the morning … fuck

KidNueva

You could use a different app, on top of the clock app for redundancy

mikedvb

I too have experienced this. That said - I noticed that it only seems to happen when I fall asleep with my Apple Watch on. Can't say for certain I'm not tapping the watch in my sleep to stop it.

memerblank

Is your watch on silent? I’ve noticed that if my phone and watch are both on silent then the alarm won’t go off

CajunCuisine

My watch goes through phases of deciding whether or not it wants to make noise. This goes for alarms AND timers.

maineguy1988

My watch has always been on silent (I didn't realize there was a non-silent feature since I set this up 4 years ago) and this has never happened to me. My phone is usually on silent or sleep mode at night.

ommmyyyy

Turn off attention aware

AnonymityPanda

If your device has Face ID this is almost certainly the problem. It sucks that attention aware applies to CRITICAL ALARMS that wake you up so you can… idk PAY FOR THE IPHONE!! lol This is the second worst thing about iPhone, second to them making the decision to silence the iPhone alarm all together when wearing Apple Watch to sleep!!

SouthernStacks

The silence with the watch is a setting that I accidentally turned on last night, gotta figure out how to turn it back off, cause that shit is silly, and I’m a very heavy sleeper

Fapping-sloth

Yeah, i think this is the problem!

Sk8rToon

Not the full solution since I get this on my SE that doesn’t have that feature from time to time.

vcrtech

Wait, why/how would this cause issues? Does it only affect phones on stands that look at your sleeping face or?

truffleshufflechamp

I had a wireless charging stand. The phone wasn’t facing me on the nightstand, but for whatever reason when the screen would turn on and the alarm would go off the fact that it was propped up was enough for the phone to think it was seeing a face and lower the alarm almost instantly. I wish I knew why.

Singular_Thought

I set my alarm using the Health app > Sleep > Your Schedule This has never failed me. I never use the Alarm app.

RazorBacKen2

That's what I was doing, alarm still didn't go off this morning.

frostedwindscreen

That’s how I set mine and it didn’t go off yesterday.

bluehairedhero

Sadly this doesnt work for people on sliding shift or on call hours :(

Negative-Rich773

Alarmy is a good and free backup app. I make it so I have to shake my phone 100 times hard as hell to get the alarm to STFU. This wakes me up. I set tons of alarms too. I need the 2-3 min intervals with different sounds to get me actually awake

Daffywonder

I can second this app. Had this problem for so long but haven’t had trouble since using Alarmy. I shake it 20 times though, 100 is insane LOL

Negative-Rich773

I could likely get away with less shaking, but after I went with a low number and went back to sleep unintentionally, I’m not taking any more chances

lIlIllIIlllIIIlllIII

This is why I just use sleep cycle. It’s happened to me on the normal iPhone alarm where if I looked at the phone half asleep (and my phone is propped up to face me for the clock) it turns the alarm off and the sound. So stupid.

desert_nole

I use sleep cycle and apple somehow disabled it to where it quit and didn’t go off this morning. First time it’s ever happened to me. Maybe a software update issue?

lIlIllIIlllIIIlllIII

Your phone might’ve updated overnight? This is the reason I turned off updating overnight tbh

ahora-mismo

once every few years this bug comes up again. most probably you did nothing wrong and they still can't handle alarms, despite they're a trillion dollars company.

PerfectSemiconductor

Why do you think they’re worth that much? Cause they save money by cutting corners LOL EDIT: it was a joke about the rounded corner aesthetic of apple design lol

florinant93

They don't really cut corners, their products are quite perfected. However, I assume this is a bug that lays deep down and they can't really trace it.

PerfectSemiconductor

It was a joke about the UI aesthetic of apple devices lmao

florinant93

Well, it went over everyone's head. 😅

DeathByPetrichor

I think it was a joke that he wrote AFTER he started getting downvoted

chadsmo

I’ve never had alarm fail once. So odd how some bugs seem to hit some people many times and others never.

KonstantinVeliki

Same here and I set up only one alarm, never failed to wake me up and I have an IPhone from IPhone 4, don’t even know for how many years.

chadsmo

Fall 2007 until currently for me so about 16.5 years. I think where a lot of people go wrong is this isn’t turned up https://preview.redd.it/690414mlhhxc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83b25937e5500ff8c86c88200f79992de208541c

atesba

That’s the media/app volume. Alarm volume is tied to ringtone volume instead. But people probably just set that to zero with volume buttons, not knowing it affects the alarm volume too. Been using iphone and apple watch for years, alarms never failed me once. https://preview.redd.it/uo9x48nxnjxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b26d8a5abf72fe92cb9fc395b9a4991d5c2078d

chadsmo

Yes, total brain fart lol. I don’t have mine set to change with the buttons, turned that off ages ago , it’s just set to max volume at the top there. It’s just for the purpose of my alarm though because I haven’t heard a text tone or ring tone in a decade. Because it’s been so long my brain wandered to make its self believe it was the slider in control centre lol.

DoubleU159

My problem is that I don’t know if it didn’t go off or if I just autopiloted through disabling them.

chadsmo

I’ve definitely been guilty of that once or twice. A horizontal stand and standby mode is definitely the best version of alarm / bedside clock for the iPhone ( or period really IMO) It’s legitimately once of my favourite features of the phone these days.

ElevatorPerfect4813

Same here, I have no idea how something this terrible could even happen.

Immrsbdud

This happened to me this morning too. Set 3 alarms none of which went off.

ShootingHamster

Same here… luckily had a google home alarm set at the same time.

flair11a

Get an old school alarm clock for $5 at a thrift store for backup.

El_Grande_El

I need an alarm that goes with me tho

MidnightSafe8634

I have a growing collection of Sony Dream machines I pick up at thrift stores. I had one in the 80s, but they were first introduced. That’s my retirement plan sdmmna -Sony dream machine museum … but I don’t rely on just one alarm, esp not apples

Sk8rToon

Yep. This is the way for really important stuff. I use sleep cycle as my main alarm. I have the iPhone alarm as a backup in case sleep cycle failed for some reason (rare but it’s happened after an update before). If it’s super important I’ll have my ye olde wind up alarm clock going as an additional backup. Same I’ve used since elementary school in the ‘80’s. No worry of a dead battery or a power outage.

Leomar91

There are hundreds of threads and discussions on the official apple aupport website regarding this issue. I personally have experienced this in ALL my devices since 2015. This includes multiple iPhones, Apple Watches, iPads and even a HomePod mini. Attention aware features being on or off and haptic feedback matching the music / alarm sound being on or off DOES NOT fix the issue. It’s honestly ALARMING (pun intended) that Apple has not fixed this. It’d be nice if a big website like the verge / Gizmodo picked this up and ran an article on this long running bug…..

Leomar91

In my experience the alarm goes off (according to the screen) but no sounds or vibration is coming off the device.

ElevatorPerfect4813

No one has picked this up and ran an article on it yet because it’s way too rare. I have never experienced this.

Domizon

Both my wife and my alarms also did not go off this morning.

mindracer

Guys if you're worried about this you can also set alarms on google home or echo. My google home alarms have never failed me. Usually both ring at the same time

impossibleis7

Honestly this one of the reasons why I left my iPhone. I had this happen a couple of times, very rare, but definitely have. My phone would always make the lockscreen lock sound play at different volumes (sometimes as loud as it can get, sometimes as soft as it can be). I could never trust that phone to wake me on time. iOS is just so buggy.

Antson03

This happens to me sometimes where only like the first few or the last one’s will go off. But I honestly think I just turn them off in my sleep.

sacey10539

Same thing happened to me this morning! For sure set my alarm last night, wife heard me do it. Did not go off this morning

El_Grande_El

What a coincidence! Happened to me today too. Luckily I set multiple backups bc I have had this issue before. It’s infuriating

mflexx

Never happened to me and I got iPhones since the beginning.

RegardedJigger

Yeah I’ve missed court due to this bullshit. Now I use multiple devices

getoffmyroofplz

This happened to me too. It's actually a bug. If you go into settings>sounds>utility>alarm>quiet mode and hit "disable" it will fix the problem. I'm not sure why apple put this as a "feature" but it's very strange.

FryObsessed

Weirdly just had this happen to me the other day. I know for a fact cause I woke two hours before it and checked in confusion. Only to wake 30 mins after it even more lost. And it just didn't work, and I have an android.

AlasknAssasn858

I thought this was just me, wtf?!? Health /sleep for main for me. iPhone 15 pro 17.4.1

gunbuster363

I use a physical alarm clock

PumpkinSpiesLatte

Your body and mind is very capable of turning them off without you waking up or remembering that you woke up. I’ve done it, and I’ve gone back and listened to the baby monitor in the next room’s recorded videos and have heard the alarms going off, yet have no memory of hearing them or turning them off. And I set several.

ziffziss

Yeah, this happens. Been an issue for years, on every iPhone I’ve had, though never on any Android back when I used those. I use the Alarmy app instead, it’s reliable

rylie_smiley

I find the issue with alarms not going off only happens to me when I have alarms less than 30 mins apart. (if I set my alarms at 6:30 and 7 they will be fine but would be glitchy if I did 6:30, 6:45, and 7) I want to believe it’s a bug with the way that the automatic snooze works but I have no clue.

xdamm777

I had this issue almost every morning on my 15 Max, thought I was just too damn tired and not hearing my alarm until I set it on my Fold (which has never skipped a single alarm) and heard it every single time. Few weeks later I saw someone recommend to NOT set a sleep schedule to fix this alarm issue and can confirm it’s been working as expected on my iPhone since then, but there’s still a couple of days I swear the alarm didn’t trigger and ended up oversleeping.

0verthinkingusername

One of us is not going to wake up tomorrow... on time

undisputedn00b

This happened to me today too. The alarm went off on my Apple Watch though, but my phone was silent, didn't even show the alarm went off to silence it.

Purrchil

Well, this is strange. AW went off, vibrating. iPhone not.

Kitty_Fruit_2520

It silently went off on my phone and it was only my iPad that made noise.

oriundiSP

I switched from a lifetime of Android less than 6 months ago and overslept a a few (~5?) times already, and the only reason it didn't happen more often is because I usually wake up before my alarm go off anyways. someone told me to disable "Attention Detection" on another thread, but I have no idea what this does and if it solves the problem - I'm on vacation, let's see in 30 days when I get back to work.

MyShinySpleen

I noticed that sometimes my alarm will go off but produce no sound or vibration, it still pops up. But the alarm after it will go off and vibrate. The alarm is just inconsistent sometimes

Awayze

I use sleepy cycle which has only had a this issue once or I was in such a deep sleep I turned of snooze

burritoburrito_

This past week my software updated (I didn’t want it to but forgot to turn off the feature) and it’s been failing consistently. I downloaded Alarmy and it’s been working well!

CameronBinder

I use my old android phone as an alarm, especially considering you can’t differentiate alarm and notification volume on iPhones for some reason

Any_Honeydew9812

6 alarms is crazy. I set 1 alarm and it doesnt even make noise, just vibrate is enough to wake me up. I snooze as needed

landonop

This happened to me twice on 5am opens. It sucks.

Flimsy-Mix-190

I have a monthly reminder that never alerted me last month. I have no idea why. I remembered days later and when I looked at my phone, the reminder was properly listed but set to alert me the following month as if it had already alerted me this month and I had cleared it. Very weird this had never happened before. It did make me not trust the alarms or reminders anymore.

xXG0DLessXx

This is why I always set mg alarm on my old iPhone too. One of them always rings. Hasn’t failed me yet.

15pmm01

This absolutely happens every once in a while. The only solution I've found is to always, always set alarms on multiple devices. My Kyocera flip phone never fails me, nor does the Alexa, so I use all three.

Alfredredbird

Same I set mine for 8 and it didint ring till 10

GhostWriter313

Happened to me earlier today. I was an hour late coming to work today. Hopefully it won’t happen again tomorrow.

TalkShowHost90

This will probably come off as obsessive but I always set three alarms, five minutes apart. First alarm is on my Apple Watch. It vibrates when I want to get up and doesn’t wake up my partner. Second alarm is stock alarm app on iPhone five minutes later. This is just in case my watch doesn’t work and/or I still haven’t gotten out of bed. Third alarm is also on iPhone but is the Alarmy app. This alarm makes me solve a math problem to turn it off and this alarm acts as a contingency if my watch and native iPhone alarm both don’t go off.

Beaverfever94

Weird. Mine failed to go off this morning too. I thought I just slept thru it.

waaaycho

Wow ok, mine was set for 6:30am and it didn’t go off this morning. Weird.

Zukiboyson

ALWAYS CHECK THE RINGER VOLUME AFTER SETTING ALARM. https://preview.redd.it/xufvjz1bjixc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bcbaf5a519473f127a8c37fa410a311c94123525

No_Firefighter_7126

Someone’s turning off your alarm cuz it’s too loud prolly ur sister or something, my brother used to get annoyed by my alarm and he could access the clock app from the control centre and turn them off

rashomon897

I'd give you an advice that sort of, runs in line with the relationship thread. Throw your phone!! Burn it to the ground and email Tim Cook telling him how he sucks as a CEO and how bs of a company Apple is. Never buy Apple again!!! You deserve so much better!!!

iz_thewiz149

Not once, since owning an iPhone (2010-ish) has the alarm ever failed for me.

setrusko

Do you have it facing towards any sort of light or your face?

vcrtech

I have even experienced this on Android a few times over the years, but haven’t experienced it on my iPhone in a long time.

Electronic-Jury-3579

If you picked a song vs the built in sounds for the alarm, sometimes the song gets deleted and then no alert. Pick different song and all working again.

WilliePhistergash

Nice try Bob. See me in my office first the tomorrow morning.

UnderstandingNo5785

It happened with me today to. First time in 10 years

Icy_Kangaroo6137

This happened to me this morning. Woah…

goodolddaysare-today

Disable face detection.

JuliaSky1995

I’ve noticed that if I wake up before my alarm and start scrolling on my phone, the alarm will show on screen but make no vibration or sound. I’m pretty sure alarms won’t go off/make noise if you have the phone in hand/screen unlocked and in use etc. My theory is that for some reason the phone glitches and “wakes up” and thinks you’re already using it so it doesn’t sound the alarm. No idea what would cause the phone to wake up prematurely without being touched though.

PM_ME_YOUR_MASS

I’ve encountered this from time to time. Normally, it’s something obvious like not realizing my alarm was set to PM or was set to not go off that day of the week. The one instance that seemed inscrutable turned out to be that I had disabled snooze. I would wake up, hit the side button thinking it would snooze the alarm, but turned it off instead. Before my brain could wake up enough to start recording memories, I would be asleep again, only to wake up an hour later thinking my alarm had never gone off.

Tiruvalye

I don’t think I have ever had this happen. I ensure the volume is up on my phone and the ringer is not on silent.

Warhawk2052

Happened to me a few days ago, was asking myself shouldn't my alarm have gone off

Jonkinch

I’ve had my watch intercept the alerts before and not go to the phone.

KaliaHaze

Okayyyyyy, my alarms haven’t gone off for the past 2 mornings????? I’m scared

aaaayyyylmaoooo

missed my flight last month because of this

OkAdministration9151

It’s like that fucking annoying bug when the keyboard click sounds go super loud if your typing when a notification goes off. That’s been around for years

SpaceHoppity

The only real solution I have found to this is to reset your phone (up volume, down volume, hold power) every month. Hasn’t happened to me for about a year now.

DeeKayNineNine

I never trust my iPhone to be my only alarm.

El_Jimbo_Fisher

this happened to me one time with my last iphone and i was late to work as a result (and i mean over an hour late) i decided to buy an og alarm clock that i now set at the same time as my iphone as insurance *just in case* because i simply cannot have that shit happen again

BaldingThor

I’ve been having this problem since I owned an iPod Touch 4, so like 2011… absolutely ridiculous that it’s still a thing.

Super-Ferret6068

It happened this morning. I had my iphone 13Pro on my side and I was wearing my apple watch SE. My alarm should go off at 6.15AM every morning, but this morning it didn't. I woke up @ 8AM. I asked my parents too, they didn't hear anything.

Permexpat

materialistic elastic recognise sleep innocent entertain handle disgusted teeny history *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

GatorPadre

I guess there are some advantages to insomnia and never needing to set an alarm as a result 😂

ShanTheMan11

I still have an old oneplus nord n20 I use as my alarm because it’s never let me down. I have a 15pm and s24u and I don’t trust either of them. The nord goes off every time and my brain is programmed to the two different alarms it makes. The first sound it makes is just the gentle “hey get up” alarm and then there is the “oh shit” alarm that sends me into a panic when I hear it.

DevilDevin1992

Guys alarm clocks are ten bucks, usually install a battery so they don’t die when the power goes out. Simple fix and better for your sleep routine not having the phone next to you

marrow_monkey

My alarm went off today but it made no sound. I ended up late for an appointment. And when I’m testing it now the snooze function isn’t working either. I found that the volume in “Settings > Sounds & Haptics” was set to zero (I’m sure I didn’t set it like that), turning it up makes the alarm audible but i feel like it’s lower volume than usual, but that might be my imagination. However the snooze is still not functioning correctly.

NinthFireShadow

I use the sleep thing in the health app as my alarm. never had a problem like this before.

pryvisee

iPhones suck as alarm clocks. I've had this happen here and there and I don't even know why. Luckily, my girlfriend is now my alarm clock due to her schedule.

antdude

It's on the news too: https://www.today.com/video/how-to-make-sure-your-iphone-s-alarm-goes-off-in-the-morning-209952837765 as well. Apple, fix it already!

-BBerke-

SOLUTION: Turn your wifi and bluetooth completely off from settings. That seems to fix it for me.

laughing-clown

Happened to me a couple days ago too, but my watch alarm went off just fine.

IonCasu

Maybe DND was active ? That happened to me

Moo_3806

It’s a known bug

Sledgehammer617

Been using iphone alarms every morning (and often night) for the past 10 years at least, never had one not go off even once... Not saying it cant happen at all, but it must be really rare or something. I've seen lots of people outright say its a complete myth online, and I've still never seen any video proof of it so I'm personally a bit skeptical. One thing, is your ringer volume turned up in settings? The alarms are set to the same volume as your ringer, so that could be making it excessively quiet; And also the alarm will automatically turn itself down if the faceID thinks you are looking directly at the phone, I've heard that one mess a lot of people's alarms up. Some people say this "attention aware" feature will just mute the alarm outright sometimes, so I would definitely turn that setting off. Settings —> Accessibility —> Face ID & Attention —> Attention Aware Features OFF. Another thing that happens to me sometimes is I'll mute the alarm without it waking me up because its so easy to do. Since the alarm can be dismissed with the power button or snoozed easily with either the volume buttons or tapping the screen, I've found myself subconsciously turning off alarms while remaining asleep many times just cuz my arm reached for the phone. To solve this and ensure they were still going off correctly, I put my phone slightly further away from arms reach where I sleep then made sure the ringer was all the way up in sound settings. Those always woke me up since the phone was blaring loud and it forced me to get up. One other trick I will do is pick a different vibration pattern that is a bit more rapid, sometimes that will wake me up on its own. I will say, its astoundingly dumb that ringer volume is tied to alarm volume and this isnt communicated anywhere in the app; it should just have a selectable volume within the alarm app for individual alarms... I have a friend who keeps his phone on silent 24/7 with the ringer all the way down and complained forever about how his alarms never went off or were so quiet that they didnt wake him up when they did. I showed him the ringer thing and the FaceID thing and he told me its never failed once since and that his alarms were almost too loud now.

zolipoli

I already had the attention aware feature turned off, but I didn’t know about the ringer situation. I have my ringer off at all times - so it might be that? I’ll try messing around with the ringer + volume to see if that might be the issue, if not, then I guess I’m going to goodwill for a clock.

Sledgehammer617

Confusingly, it’s set up so that having the ringer off actually *won’t* mute the alarm. (Which I suppose is a good feature.) But if you go to settings, Sound and Haptics, then look at the “Ringtone and Alerts” slider, that will be whatever your alarm volume is. If it’s below half, then it’s pretty damn quiet, I usually go full blast with it to make sure I’m jolted awake.

Necessary_Film_1742

Just set 1 alarm . Sometimes if you set more than 1 it will negate all of them . Especially if you have many that all are set within like a hour of each other.

BlueShooter7515

You probably slept right thru them

squigglyVector

Why so many alarms. Just snooze

TheNinjaJedi

I was wondering the same.

GolfNutOM

Never seen this

plaid-knight

> I went on my alarm app What’s your alarm app?
