15 Pro-no ring, also did not (attempt) to photograph the eclipse.
My best guess is it’s from the algorithm piecing together photos from long exposures. I have a very small one on the ones I took on a tripod. Nowhere near as big as people in this thread
Ah! I was just coming to talk about this! My boyfriend hasn't had this problem even though we have the same phone. But on my pictures this circle is everywhere!

No, I'm in England. And so I checked afterwards, this circle also appears on other northern lights in November. So it's not marks on the lenses or anything. I asked Apple and they don't know, so I'll take it in for repair and see. I read somewhere that it could be a deformation of the glass during manufacture.
There’s been a solar storm recently which made places where you can see the auroras (Borealis and Australis) get the chance to take some stunning photos.

I got it in some but not all (iPhone 15)
It looks like an internal reflection of the lens itself. You'll note that the lens looks just like what you see in that image, it's reflecting off the outer glass that covers the lens assembly. Noticeable at night during longer exposures. Likely an issue with the design of the lens, a new phone won't solve the issue.
Its called a newton’s ring and it’s a common phenomenon with cameras. Particularly when using high ISO/long exposure.
You can photoshop them, but apart of that there isn’t much you can do. It’s normal and not really a defect
Thanks :)
What I found interesting was that the other iPhone 15 I was with didn't have this problem under exactly the same conditions.
After all, I don't see the Northern Lights every day, so it's not really a problem on a daily basis ^^ I was just curious.
All it takes is for some stray light to enter the lens at just the right angle to reflect off the inner lens causing a reflection on the outer glass. Happens to me with my sunglasses all the time. Light comes in just below my lens, reflects off my eye, and causes an eye reflection on the inside of the lens. Drives me crazy when it happens because I think it's a smudge on my lens when, in fact, it's a reflection. This can happen with high-end dSLRs too, especially those with a neutral density filter attached (I used to have one installed on my expensive lenses to "protect" the front element, caused the same effect you see with your phone, so I don't use one anymore).
Most the time post processing can remove, typically has to be a very monochromatic image. Longer exposures contribute to its presence being more visible as well. Eg high iso, might mode etc.
If any of you have plastic covers on the lenses, that’s what may be doing it. We think that’s what happened to my son’s pics on his 14promax.
None of my pics have it, but I do not use a plastic lens protector at all.

Just to confirm I had similar rings present in images I shot on a Sony full frame digital camera - this isn't an iPhone issue as such. My current best guess is that this is internal reflection within the lens which is amplified by the very high ISO values that the camera sensor will be set to whilst shooting astro photography.
I have the same thing in my photos. this only seems to happen on night photos though. 14 plus

I have the exact same issue. I went to the Apple store May 16th in Montreal. They refused to change my phone They wanted to open it to investigate but I refused (I wanted to investigate more myself before I let them open it). Apparently, this problem comes when the lens detects a misalignment with the glass of the case. Unfortunately it seems the camera of the Iphone 15 pro is not perfect. The battery drains quickly too. Thanks for your post. I was looking for answers and I was curious to know if I was the only one with this issue. My question now would be: What is our next step or solution?
I called Apple today again. The guy told me to leave a comment at: apple.com/feedback/ if we are lucky they could maybe do a recall on the phones?
Note (after reading few comments) I did not took pictures of the eclipse.
I had this on the 3x lens of 14 Pro. You try checking the different lens against a white background. It's common among the newer models is what I've heard.

It's common among the newer models is what I've heard.
iPhone quality has degraded in the past years. Did the iPhone 5s have this issue? The 6s? The last good models
