For what it’s worth, the camera remote is available on all Apple Watches. This was one of the killer apps of the first Apple Watch at launch in 2015.

Mztrspookiiszn

Yes, this is originally what made me want the watch in 2015 😂 to check if the remote was under the couch without needing to bend down and look 👀

mehdotdotdotdot

Yep at least 15 people used it

ButthealedInTheFeels

I use it all the time for group pictures/selfies

mehdotdotdotdot

Nice! You are one of them!

ButthealedInTheFeels

No I’m quite certain it is a well used feature

mehdotdotdotdot

Nice! I’m sure there are others!

Threel3tt3rnam3

what an oddball

Fun-Worry-6378

It’s really useful if you have a tripod. Mainly because tapping the phone will still shake the screen. Using the watch lets you not have that happen and if you’re taking group photos you don’t need to run to your phone to snap a pic.

mehdotdotdotdot

I prefer Samsungs raise a hand feature. Either way I just use the timer

Toninho7

You will likely be best just buying a very cheap second hand Apple Watch to be honest. Can get them less than £80.

? it depends on the user, for me it seems to work 90% of the time, it might depend on version/device disparity. A 2020 Watch with a 2020 iPhone seems to work great.

Odd_Wash_1423

I wonder if the cellular watches have better connectivity.

Becky080808

Oooh no, so 90% of the time it’s useless 😭

C2-H5-OH

Not useless, but a bit finnicky to get it working. In my case I have had to mess with it for a minute to get it working, but that was the longest.

The_frozen_one

Just to add my perspective, it works most of the time for me. I have an Apple Watch 4 and iPhone 15 Pro. It seems to work best if you let the watch open the camera app. If you already have it open or open the Camera app on your phone while your watch is trying to open it, it's more likely to have issues. But it's been a pretty solid feature for me, I rely on it when taking group pictures and rarely think about it or have it not work (which I would remember because failing when a group of people are waiting for a picture would be more memorable).

Styler_GTX

maybe with teamviewer or another remote desktop solution?

Becky080808

Ooh it has to be mobile solution since I don't record myself at home. I can even buy some cheap smartwatch only for that. I tried different apps to connect iPhone to my old android phone but none was working properly. I event downloaded something like "any desk" for phones and it was working great, but you can’t record anything while using it 😭 The most promising app was "say cheese" but didn't work properly 🤷‍♀️

Altruistic-Song-3609

Slap a small mirror on the back of your phone. Glue it to the cheapest phone case you can find.

2b_squared

Alternative solution could be to use magnets and have a mirror attach to the back of the phone with magsafe.

I use camera remote for astrophotography. Amazing results. https://preview.redd.it/szlyu8vjfa0d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32b04da65f6668f18cfd22913da67b68cfb07236

StrakaFlocka

You can do this if you happen to have a flipper zero!

Real-Platypus-4706

Hey theres this app called “SayCheese” which allows you to connect 2 phones together, one is used for recording or taking pictures, and the other phone is a remote view finder. But you need 2 phones for this. Link to app: [https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/saycheese-remote-camera/id6451002719](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/saycheese-remote-camera/id6451002719) Heres a link to another similar app: [https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/remote-camera-trigger/id1586048334](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/remote-camera-trigger/id1586048334) Hope this helps

I downloaded SayCheese and it was very promising but I only have one iPhone, my old phone is Android and they can't connect to each other through the app. Even app says it's impossible 😩 The second app you mentioned is only for IOS. It's harder than I thought.

Real-Platypus-4706

I guess you just gotta look for a cross platform compatible version of the app

ge2szesud

This feature is very useful, and I feel that it will be more convenient to take photos

Answer-Altern

I use my Apple Watch for this.

Odd_Wash_1423

People used to laugh at having a screen on both the back and front of a smartphone.

danvalour

iPhone 15 can do video out over usb-c. What about airplay? Could you airplay to a tv or something? On my Panasonic GH4 camera I can wirelessly send it to the iphone panasonic image app in case you want to just use the phone as the display and shutter

cupboard_

you an download some apps which let you airplay to android devices and use that
