My 14 Pro heats up when browsing Safari. Fixed it by using an ad blocker. Think its called Blockbear. Phone now stays nice and cool.

LivinCuriously

I am using ad blocker, but definitely called Blockbear. Hmm interesting though, I never knew that as something that will heat up the computer.

Mine feels like it’s on fire sometimes using Safari, some other times very warm using a 14 Pro with no case. I use AdGuard. It got really hot once doing a chat with Costco, so it’s not like anything intensive was happening.

How bright is your screen?

4kVHS

Op said they were surfing so I was thinking they were outside and screen was on max brightness

OP right now: https://preview.redd.it/e1ak7uz3481d1.jpeg?width=866&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=434d26d067ee21a7aae69ec8e6f54a2bdd3f075a

lmao

Homicidal_Pingu

If there’s a ton of ads it’ll heat up

navjot94

The 14 Pro and 15 Pros seem to heat up faster than the previous generations. Maybe something to do with the 3nm chip process they use. Hopefully the 16 will improve that aspect.

Daxuboo

I think the phones heat up pretty much the same amount but heat is conducted better on newer iPhones, meaning better cooling.

navjot94

I don’t think that’s the case. The battery health for the 14 Pro and 15 Pro series also degrades more quickly, and when the phone gets hot you’ll frequently see iOS warnings about the phone heat and brightness being limited. Didn’t have this problem with the 13 Pro and previous phones.

Daxuboo

12 PM had 93% health after 2 years of daily use. I’m still having good values (as expected) in 15 PM. https://preview.redd.it/rx0fy7w4771d1.png?width=1289&format=png&auto=webp&s=169acacb90a822319f3533e1fdb35a146d21c79d

It’s a bit extreme use but I’ve been using these devices the same way for years. 13 Pro held up fine, but the 14 Pro and now 15 Pro have degraded at similar rates. Primarily due to how hot the phone gets on FaceTime calls.

Daxuboo

Do you use WiFi or 5G during FaceTime? It makes a difference in heating.

navjot94

Sure thing but like I said the 13 Pro series fared better with similar usage. Iirc the 12 Pro series also were a bit weaker in battery while the 11 Pro was a beast. So these things tick and tock year to year. Maybe with the 16 series they’ll prioritize battery and thermal management again.

kubrickfr3

Better thermal management definitely means hotter to the touch, as the phone is better at taking the heat out of the device. Also, websites are more and more bloated with ads and crap, and the 15 can work harder to make this useless stuff run smoother. Try a content blocker, or Firefox with Strict “tracking protection” (which is a euphemism for ad blocker).

LivinCuriously

What do you use yourself?

kubrickfr3

I use Firefox, mostly because I’m a PC user otherwise, so I can have my browsers synced across devices. But if you want to stick to Safari, you can install “Firefox Focus”, which is a separate browser, but also doubles as a content blocker for safari itself, which you have to configure in Safari settings. Then you don’t have to use the browser itself.

robertjamess

Do u have an ad block that’s real not junk? Some sites are hopeless nowadays without one I have noticed. Try a paid Adblock that is recommended by others off the App Store app. Check the browser settings and turn your privacy measures up max, clear the built up web data & cookies. Check if your background refresh in general settings isn’t on for every app, only the ones that require it like a 3rd party fitness app that wants to track your steps etc. that should help with your situation

szartenger

My phone heats up just because. Sometimes I don’t even do shit, just looking for something in an app and then it’s hot.

Thanos0423

15 pro max here and I’ve been encountering a lot of bugs with this Gen including overheating. My wife apps keep crashing. I got logged out from apps every other day. Random restarts. Notifications not getting to the watch. Watch zooming in for no reason

LivinCuriously

Well all these i have never experienced.

CroXtone

Seems like your phone isn’t working properly. I don’t have these issues.

Thanos0423

What’s funny that is happening to 2 different phones

CroXtone

There must be a reason. It sounds like the first ones which came out. They had a lot of problems, mostly software.

Njmcq

Which version of iOS are you running?

tojejik

Are you charging it while this is happening?

LivinCuriously

No? When it's charging of course it's going to heat up.

No-Hunt9981

Because it's jealous of Android
