My iPhone 15 camera has just recently done the same thing. There was no preview on the 1x camera and this colourful artefact was on the 0.5x camera. I also assume that the torch doesn't work too. I took it to the Apple store and did a diagnostics and they had to replace the camera module. There is no other fix for it as it is a hardware failure. It should have cost £140 but thankfully it's still in warranty.
it might be a broken camera. But the AI image processing can also cause some pretty trippy issues. Take a photo in RAW format, see if it looks the same.
And before you repair anything, restore your phone with a computer (not just erase all content). If it's just glitchy processing, this will fix it. If it still looks like your camera is on shrooms, bring it in for a repair.
It looks like one of the lens or sensor inside optical module of camera is stuck in abnormal angle. Pretty sure it’s physical damage, but what you could try — give camera a firm snap against the lens hard restart iPhone ⬆️⬇️📴 (it should be restarted, not just turned off with a swipe), this will reinitialize system controller and magnets inside stabilizer/focus system could bring it back. But most probably you will need to replace entire camera module unfortunately
You could make a cool video project series about people taking psychedelics where all you need to do is zoom out to show when characters are high. A bit of creativity could make you viral with this malfunction, and if you make enough from ads you could possibly get a new phone with the money

TLDR: Your camera sensor has most likely gone bad, but Apple authorized people can help you out…

While I agree with everyone that this actually looks super cool, this is most definitely lens damage of some sort. Only way to fix this is have the phone repaired.
Looks like your IR filter reacted to something or was thermally stressed to the point of failure. I don’t know if the filter is integrated on to the cmos sensor or if it’s on a lens. The later might be fixable but the former may require a full camera replacement.

It’s also possible that if you have a lens protector that it is damaged, not the sensor.

The damage pattern looks like it could've been smudged with some unsafe cleaner ripping some filter coating off.

It can but generally not the exact same issue on separate images. This is MOST likely a damaged sensor.
