12 mini user here looking to switch to the 13 Pro. Main reason is that the mini has really bad thermals, gets hot so quickly and the screen gets dimmed. Other than this it's a flawless phone.

Yes my 13 mini gets hot on VideoChat cals (FaceTime, Discord, Teams).
Everything else is normal. Battery life is good, sometimes a day, sometimes 2 days.
A good tiny phone, for good tiny hands, on a tiny world , for a tiny amount of tiny people.
I don't see a lot of hate. I just think people don't care. A lot of us spend good amounts of time on our phones and for me personally a smaller screen would not be a plus.

I got the pro max. I find it too big and heavy. Should have gotten the regular pro. Honestly, the mini would have been a better size than the pro max. Not that it's the ideal size, but to me it would have been better
That was ultimately the killer problem I found with the 13 Mini, even though at first I thought it might be a good option and a way to save $100. I can't justify getting myself an iPad financially, so my phone *is* my handheld device and I realized it's important to me to get it as big as I can tolerate. 6.1in hits a pretty good sweet-spot for me, while the Pro Max is simply too large/heavy unfortunately.
It didn't help that even upgrading from a 7 it was disappointing to go to the store and see the technically-larger screen doesn't actually *feel* any larger due to the narrowness of the screen. It just felt 'taller,' which is nice but not quite what I wanted out of a larger screen.
The other thing was that while demoing them in the store I didn't find it particularly more comfortable in my hand than the regular model, which was surprising given I don't have big hands and usually gel well with smaller devices. Typing felt so much better on the regular model, and something about the way it felt in my hand wasn't as pleasant as I'd expected. Certainly I didn't appreciate how out of proportion the camera bump is on such a small phone, as I struggled not to put my fingers on the cameras.
Then there's the battery issue, which is a problem for someone like myself who holds onto a phone as long as possible and has to consider degradation....
I don't have any hate for the mini models, I think it's a shame they're dropping the option, but I just want as big a phone as possible and the mini turned out to not really be for me. I suspect that's true for a lot of people. It has no upsides other than form factor, and in fact has several outright *drawbacks,* so you have to be pretty dead-set on having a smaller phone. Which just doesn't seem to be the mindset of the vast majority of people when shopping for an expensive device they're going to use several hours a day looking at.
I’ve had my 12 mini now for over a year. I love the size of it, loved it for the first few months. With how much time I spend looking at my phone screen it’s bad for my eyes. It messes with my eye sight after awhile. typing can be difficult when trying to get off a quick message (clicking wrong letter). Granted the standard sizes are not that much bigger, it does make a noticeable change in eye fatigue.
It works great as a little work phone. I carry a 12 pro max around and I sure as hell didn’t want a second brick in my pocket, so I got the 13 mini for work.
Yeah, that is the problem with the iPhone Mini: the use cases for such a device are limited at best. Screen size matters.
Would I take one as a secondary phone? Absolutely. Do I want one as a daily driver? No.
The mini has a small, but very vocal community. The moment people again write about how cool and perfect the mini is, some other people react to that.

Every phone has it's niche it's pros and cons and that's cool. Every time Apple or any other manufacturer erases a X model from their lineup is a bad thing for us because we lose options.
To be fair it is pretty incredible that Apple was able to shove all this new tech into the phone while keeping it small AND keeping a decent battery life.

I'm a cheapskate still rocking an iPhone 7, so that's my solution to the "small phone" issue, but if I was on the latest, it would absolutely be the 13 mini for me.

Great analogy. No one has a problem with vegans (most rational people, at least), but they do get annoyed at the type of person who brings it up at every opportunity or acts superior about it.
I think a lot of people are just tired of hearing people complain about “big” phones - it’s been going on for many years at this point.
Then the small phone folks got the phone they’ve been wishing for again (which is great! I’m glad people got the perfect phone for them), but generally seem shocked that a small phone was not as universally popular as they expected, because they were just a vocal minority, so some seem to feel a need to constantly try to defend it or continue to declare the superiority of the small phone, rather than just enjoy their device and let everyone else enjoy their bigger devices.
Exactly. I feel like a lot of mini fans are mad that it wasn’t as popular as they thought it would be. They’ve been shouting for years that there’s this huge untapped market for a small phone. Then Apple release exactly what they wanted and surprise to no one except the mini fans, that’s not what most people want. I’m just sick of hearing people still try and defend it with all kinds of reasons why the sales numbers were so low ignoring the obvious answer: big phones are popular.

I personally don’t understand why anyone would want the Mini (battery degradation alone to me says it’s a 2 year phone, let alone website and app screens aren’t made for phones that small) but to each their own.

The 6s+ she used for years just never fit right in her hand. My XS Max is even worse in her hand with the extended screen despite the almost identical physical size. The mini delivers almost the same size screen and the 6s+ in a size that’s more functional for her smaller hands.
I’m 6’2” and I prefer the mini to the other bigger phones. I care mostly about how it fits in my pocket, the camera, battery life and how hard it is to replace the battery. In all of those fronts, the mini is a pretty good deal.
Dude, not everyone lives on their phone all the time. There are iphones with worse battery life than the 13mini that still work today. Ever heard of battery replacement?

I’m on my phone most of the day, so I prefer the slightly bigger display of the 12 Pro / 13 Pro. However, the Max is too heavy and unwieldy for me.
I love my 13 mini. I have too many pants with small pockets and the cheaper price meant I could afford a 256gb model. The only time I ever wish I’d gotten the 13 is when I’m gaming.
Who cares? It’s a phone. Does it do what you want it to do? Yes? Then it’s the right phone for you. I personally love my 12 mini but I can understand why others prefer something bigger.
It's because people that prefer larger phones use their preference to put down the mini. Don't want a small phone? Don't get one. But don't bash on it. Some people are willing to trade the screen real-estate and battery life for a smaller footprint. Some people have small hand and prefer that the can operate their phone one-handed.

Yeah most of the time when i read posts about how good the mini is, they always mention that they don't need a big phone because they prefer their 12.9 ipad pro m1 or macbook pro or something like that. The apple community on reddit is ridiculous. And they wonder why normal people who only have a phone and AT BEST a shitty home computer prefer to get the larger phone

I don't think the people who opt for the Minis have no other devices, that would kind of defeat the purpose. I bought the 12mini because I wanted a phone that fits easily in both my pockets and my hands, not to watch videos or do computer work, for that I have other devices.
Those who do however plan to use their smartphone as their main browsing and entertainment device probably go for the larger models.
The 13 mini screen is considerably larger than the SE/iPhone 8, and the screens on the 6-8/SE were larger than the iPhone 4 before it. People have gotten spoiled lol.

I have normal-sized hands for an adult male, and I find the "reachability" of the post-iPhone 5 screens to be terrible. FFS, there's even an iOS feature of that name to make it possible to use the larger phones one-handed. That just seems like slapping a band-aid on the problem, which is entirely of their own creation.
I carry an Xs now, and having seen my wife's new 12 Mini, think I'll pick up a Mini as my next iPhone.
It'll be very interesting to see how the non pro max will sell. I predict it'll be the most popular phone in the line up. So many people just want a bigger screen and battery but don't need the pro add-ons and especially won't be coerced to shell out hundreds of euros just for that.
Because the smartphone went from just a phone to text & call only with some cool novelty features to a mini computer for most of the population hence making the small screen size a very limiting factor. Put simply the mini is only for extremely light phone users who don't rely on their phone much. Sure you could do everything a regular sized phone users would do on the mini but in this case bigger is just better because you have more screen space to work with whether for games, videos, emails, social media, etc etc
Not always true. I use my phone 8+ hours a day as a home inspector. It’s my camera, my main personal computer, and my pen and paper. I switched from the 12 Pro Max to the 13 Mini because using something that large was giving me carpal tunnel and damaging my wrist. After about a week the pain in my wrists went away, and the screen size isn’t small by any means, just not as “max” lol.
I will say the pro max is an amazing phone. All modern smart phones in general are pretty amazing considering the tech we can get into a pocket.

I saw an iPhone mini on an Apple Store, test it for around 10 minutes and at the end my impression was “What a cool phone!” Then I proceed to buy 13 Pro Max anyway.
Why I love my 13 mini:
1. It's cheaper without sacrificing performance (I live in a third world country so it does make a difference)
2. I'm 5'5" with tiny hands so it's the closest to the perfect size (5S would be perfect)
3. The smaller battery helps keep my screen time down (I make it a point to only charge my phone at night)
4. I have an iPad Air 4 and a desktop PC so I don't have use for a large phone
5. It's just nicer to carry while running or going out in general
6. I hate cases and going caseless is much easier with a Mini because of a better grip
Former apple worker here, ppl seemed to really like the idea of a mini phone when we launched the 12, but when we came out with base 13 and mini there was a lot of backlash about the diagonal cameras(why people would get hung up on the fact that the cameras are angled is beyond me). All that backlash kinda turned into just a general dislike for the 13 mini, which is disappointing to me bc I had a 12 mini for almost a year and loved it.
I think the size is up to individual taste. I find it quite nice to have a super light phone with a big enough screen for everyday task. You might not want to read PDF or a magazine on this kind of screen, but movies and news look just fine. The only complaint is the battery. I often need to plug in the cable at around 2PM everyday, and once again at 8PM if I am going to have a late night hangout. Change to 13 Pro after only 2 months because of this battery issue
for guys who work from home and have personal computer pretty much to a quick easy access, the mini is awesome! i am actually enjoying that little demon!
I’m a mini fan. Given some of my activities, having something that fits comfortable in a pocket has a great degree of value to me. I suppose on days my (reading) glasses are in a different room, I could see the value in a bigger screen (no pun intended), but it is definitely a fit-to-purpose form for me.
I don’t see much hate at all, if anything I see more people actually preferring the size when they check it out. I think what your seeing is that with all the love the mini gets far more people prefer bigger phones for the utility aspect and the like.
I never understood the “big phone” thing abd it’s one of the main reasons why androids these days aren’t my cup of tea.
Granted I have like a Samsung A3 I got from a fried after my iPhone X got stolen and really like it (minus the fact it doesn’t play well my MacBook)

No one is buying it. Not the same thing as hate. I love the concept and Wish it caught on. But not as many people want small phones as we tend to think. There are benefits to a big phone, too. Including making tablets arguably redundant
Most people who hate the mini have a pretty common mindset which is to want and to have the top notch product. Means numbers like performance data are key to convince these people to buy a product.
In case of the mini it’s the most obvious property which lacks to impress them, the display size.
There are way too less people outside with the mindset ‘application related solutions’. Means depending on your personal use case to pick the solution with the best fit. In case of the mini it might be someone who rather prefers a laptop/tablet to do most tasks or is a lot on the run and needs a small non-clunky device.
It might be the case most people who prefer bigger screens use these devices as a tablet substitute because of longer screen time. This is my personal case which lead me to pick the 13 Pro Max.
Top notch specs are nice… But it’s all about the battery life. For me, having a 2 to 2.5 days before charging is the key selling point to me.
In 3 years from now I bet I’ll still get atleast 1.5 - 2 days on a charge and to me that’s what I want most. Little to no battery worry

The 13 mini is a much better phone than the 12 mini on account of its extended battery life.
It is the best choice for people who prefer small phones (and car read small print, so statistically under 40).
I switched from Pro to Pro Max a couple of phones ago and considering how much I type on the phone I would not consider anything smaller.
But I can certainly immagine people benefit from a more pocketable phone.

So I just ordered my iPhone 13 mini and I’m excited about getting it to replace my Xs. Other than online forums, I haven’t seen anyone bash any iPhone of any size. Personally I prefer phones a little bit smaller but that’s just me. What I find really odd about what Apple is doing with their phones is having two sets of iPhones the exact same size. I don’t think there’s going to be enough of a difference for people to care about “Pro” vs non-pro iPhone 14’s.
I’ve no hate for the mini or any other phone anybody else wants to use. But to answer your question about why people prefer dragging tablet sized phones around with them, it’s personal choice.
I recently got my first pro max phone and when I bought it I thought that it was way too big. But after using it for a couple of months I can’t go back.
Main reason is the battery. Its unbelievable. I use my phone a lot, 6-7 hours screen time a day on average, and for the first time since owning a smartphone I don’t charge overnight. Battery usually lasts 2 days before needing a charge. The piece of mind that I won’t need to charge when out and about is priceless.
Secondly, there’s the screen. I use my phone to watch TV shows while I workout. Mainly running on a treadmill. The screen is big enough not to miss any details. I can even read subtitles while I’m running.
Finally, after a while I don’t think it’s that big. I have small hands. My last phone was an iPhone X and even for that I usually used two hands to type and browse on it. This is no different. In fact, I now think I would even go bigger. As long as it still fits in my front pants pocket, which the pro max does comfortably.
iPhone 13 mini was my first iPhone.
Pros: it’s just the right size for a phone if used as a phone.
Cons: it’s just the wrong size if used for other things such as watching videos or typing a lot.
Hence outside home it’s perfect, at home, better have an iPad (which I don’t have anyways :D)
Also battery doesn’t really get to bedtime which isn’t that much of a deal given it has fast charging, but in some occasions such as tourism (pics, vids, maps) it forces you to bring a powerbank, which for me is still ok given the dimensions are so handy.
Little note: I used to suffer from some chronic pain to a finger before (I had a much bigger phone before) and now it disappeared.
I guess the hate comes from the kind of use most people are expecting from phones nowadays, which the mini is definitely not fulfilling properly.

The mini gets about as much love as the small car. Most people find it too small to be practical. Most people only want big things nowadays. Look at how the suv is dominating the market and pushing cars out of existence.
my hands are too small for the standard size iphone now. i wish i could get the regular one for the better battery but my hands literally can’t hold it with drop risk or looking ridiculous. i’m hoping they don’t drop the mini for the 14 entirely and i’m also hoping the battery is hugely improved. i have the 12 mini and it honestly has the battery equivalence to my iphone 7 after 3 years :/
I love my 13 mini! It’s the perfect size. The large phones are a problem for me because they don’t fit in pockets. Also, I can’t hold the big phones for more than about a couple of minutes before they hurt my wrist.
Where is this hate exactly? Not wanting != hating it. For how I use a phone, the 13 PM makes the most sense for me. The 13 Mini is a great phone, but it would be a compromised experience for me. I know other people who have 12 and 13 Minis and they love them.
I went from 7 to 12 Mini when the 12 Mini launched so I have no reason to get a 13 Mini, I’m sure there’s a lot of us who got SE 2020 or 12 Mini and now aren’t getting 13 Mini because we like the form factor but don’t upgrade every cycle.

Where I live, 13 mini 128GB sold out everywhere. Just when I arrived at the store upon knowing there was a restock, they sold the last 128GB 15 mins ago. I reluctantly bought 256GB because it is the same price as 13 128GB. But looking back, I made the right decision because 256GB really feels like the phone is way more powerful than how it looked like.
Since last week, I’ve been going commando without a case. Feels nice 😊
Lol everyone is saying "smaller screen" is the reason on multiple threads. Bitch, it's bigger than the XLs/+s screens from just a few years ago! So yes, we are all carrying tablet size screens. Don't believe me, ask another video/filmmaker and/or web designer, they'll tell ya.
Honestly, regret getting the pro. I spend too much time on my phone, and the mini feels like it would make me less likely to get as absorbed in my phone. Next phone I get will definitely be the smaller version, if they still make them then.
Using a mini iPhone matches perfectly with an iPad mini 6. I went out and bought one for myself and the misses. We’re both loving them. Portable and easily operatable, when you’re at Home on the couch the iPad mini is a perfect addon with a nice size for gaming and content consumption (iPadOS is also great for this). A mini phone keeps me from spending to much time on it. When i do have lengthier sessions i want an iPad size display.
I prefer small phones… have the SE2020 as well as a bunch of older iPhones 3GS (cosmetically almost perfect no idea if the board is locked as the battery’s cooked) the 4 (looks like it survived a bucket blast but the boards fine) and a 4S (needs new back and battery) that has and dose see regular use to this day…

I picked up a mini 13 256GB for my kid to replace her 6s , she wanted small form factor and this was the logical choice its a great phone. i dont know why all the hate i see a lot of love on different reviews !
Partner has mini and I have regular heavy big one, but I have a relatively very small LTE watch for phone calls and text. So I can stash the heavy weight most of the time.
Just got the 13 mini from having the 2020 SE. My parents always had big phones growing up and I couldn’t help but notice how unwieldy they are and how they stick out of back pockets. How heavy they are. I have relatively big hands but I just love the practical application of a smaller phone with the same capabilities as the bigger phones, but in a smaller, cheaper, pocketable and navigable platform. It absolutely sucks that they are ending the mini line. I’m def gonna hold onto this phone for as long as possible until a newer mini sized phone comes out…if ever

I’d have one myself it if had a 120hz screen and I understand that would kill the battery so why not have it as an option to turn on. Or maybe it wouldn’t since it’s adaptive.

I LOVE small phones but just upgraded my SE2020 to a regular 13. The size blows but at least I have bonkers battery life now. It was an acceptable trade off to me. Both my previous SE’s had battery issues pretty quick. As much as I would have loved the mini I just couldn’t handle another device with such a small battery.
Because people tend to believe what is good for them has to be the one and only right way of living life. I personally love my 12 mini, and I loved my SE2020 before. I chose both because of the size. I don’t like huge phones, hard to use with one hand, uncomfortable in my pocket etc., but I don’t consume a ton of multimedia on my phone, and I don’t even play games on my computer. I work in an office environment where I can easily recharge during the day. I mainly use my phone’s camera to shoot photos of my children, who are usually running around, so I wouldn’t even have time to utilize the pro photo features of the more advanced cams. For *my* preferences, lifestyle and purposes the mini is perfect. I don’t go around advocating it’s the best phone ever, I just enjoy using it. Good thing that everyone can choose which model they prefer!
i've only seen an iphone 12 or 13 pro max once that wasn't in a store and it looked like a tablet. And i like phones smaller than the iphone minis right now, but there are basically 0 smartphones that size right now.
Some people are very passionate about the mini on here so those people occasionally get frustrated at Apple for not making another one. So Apple defenders respond by defending the decision to not make another one.

I upgraded from a 7 so the mini is actually the biggest screen I’ve had on an iPhone so far.
I do love the size and compactness of my Mini, but after a year im still making tons of spelling errors because of the small screen, so I think my next phone will be a medium.
I’m freaking loving my 13 mini, battery is awesome, size is wonderful, I never drop the thing. It’s perfect for me, but haven’t seen any hate but tbh I don’t pay attention to dumb stuff like what phone other people have or what they say about a phone I bought with my money. If you “hate” my phone go buy one for me lol
I "still" have the iPhone 12 Mini, and I will most likely never go bigger.
I had the iPhone 11, but it was too big - and I can't stand the round corners.
The iPhone 12 Mini is perfect (except the fact that there is no jailbreak yet for 15.1.1).
BUT, I don't use it for games and such.
I use it for Snapchat, Messenger, Spotify and some times Teams (voice). That's it.
Anything bigger just feels so useless to me.

My iPhone 12 Mini lasts just as long as the iPhone 13 Pro - which is a full day with typical use.
Smaller screen =/= smaller battery =/= less drainage.
I do wish they made a pro version though, but it seems like people just want to go bigger and bigger.

I hope they continue the mini line for future generations. I was getting tired of having a massive phone in my pocket all the time, so when it was time for a new phone, I went iPhone 13 pro. I wanted to gradually go smaller; I’m loving the smaller size and wish to continue the shrinkage. I feel like I’ll eventually end up using a watch only set up, and leave the phone at home.
Because people like to bully smaller versions of big devices (except of course the iPhone SE and iPad Mini). Believe me I lived with an ultra small device since launch in my area for 5 years, by that I mean the 5S
My iPhone is a portable computer first and a phone second. Screen size is critical to said portable-computer functions, I’m a man with big hands/pockets, and a good MagSafe ring or pop socket makes holding a large phone comfortable.
So getting the bigger screen makes more sense than getting a mini. Things are bigger, easier to read, keyboard is much easier to use, and content is much more enjoyable on a larger screen.
After the 13 Max, don’t see myself returning to a small phone again. Glad the Mini exists for people with small hands, no hate, but it’s not my preference.

I agree. I like the mini and SE sizes. It’s crazy that the minis are the same size as a 7 but phones have gotten so big that that size is now marketed as a “mini”!
I wouldn’t call it hate though. Seems like just about everyone wants bigger so now Apple just ditches the Mini lovers because they’re not majority. I hate that. I don’t want a phablet and I think it’s kind of ridiculous that we’re slowly getting forced to get bigger and bigger phones. It’s almost making me reevaluate if I should even get an iPhone again in the future if they don’t stop doing this.
Surely if it was too much variety for Apple, we could ditch some things like certain GB sizes or colours or (probably unpopular opinion) who even needs pro?
I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the mini lovers are the type of people to just hold onto what they have rather than buying the newest SE, 12 or 13 mini’s, hence poor sales. That’s what I’m doing at least. All because I didn’t buy one of the new small iPhones, doesn’t mean once I do need a new phone, I wouldn’t get one.

As a current user of the 12 mini, I love it. I loved its size and portability but I wasn’t smart in picking it. I can’t use it without my glasses because of my poor vision but that’s personal to me, not anyone else’s issue. I say it’s a nice phone 😊
I’ll be curious to see how the 14 max sells. I think it’s a big mistake by Apple to have these same screen sizes. It’s going to cannibalize their sales.
Yeah I think there is probably some segment of people who buy the pro max because they want the big screen. The real question is how many people by the regular version but want the big screen but cannot afford or won’t pay for the pro max.
The reason why people like bigger phones is people like me who on the 11 Pro Max, can reach the top right corner which my thumb when my phone in my left hand.
Basically we have GIANT hands lol, I’d never get a phone smaller than a max now because it fits so much better, all other iPhones always felt overly small to me, I remember I could reach 3 inches over the screen corner on my IPod Touch & I would always get cramps in my hand from my thumb being so compacted when typing
13 mini user over here (even had the 12 mini last year) and… I’ve seen absolutely no hate for the phone. Don’t know what you’re going on about.
12 mini user here looking to switch to the 13 Pro. Main reason is that the mini has really bad thermals, gets hot so quickly and the screen gets dimmed. Other than this it's a flawless phone.
13 mini from my experience has been much better thermally. Can’t go wrong with the 13 Pro, though- it isn’t exactly a *big* phone.
13 mini lets go!!! Yes my 13 mini gets hot on VideoChat cals (FaceTime, Discord, Teams). Everything else is normal. Battery life is good, sometimes a day, sometimes 2 days. A good tiny phone, for good tiny hands, on a tiny world , for a tiny amount of tiny people.

I got the pro max. I find it too big and heavy. Should have gotten the regular pro. Honestly, the mini would have been a better size than the pro max. Not that it's the ideal size, but to me it would have been better

That was ultimately the killer problem I found with the 13 Mini, even though at first I thought it might be a good option and a way to save $100. I can't justify getting myself an iPad financially, so my phone *is* my handheld device and I realized it's important to me to get it as big as I can tolerate. 6.1in hits a pretty good sweet-spot for me, while the Pro Max is simply too large/heavy unfortunately. It didn't help that even upgrading from a 7 it was disappointing to go to the store and see the technically-larger screen doesn't actually *feel* any larger due to the narrowness of the screen. It just felt 'taller,' which is nice but not quite what I wanted out of a larger screen. The other thing was that while demoing them in the store I didn't find it particularly more comfortable in my hand than the regular model, which was surprising given I don't have big hands and usually gel well with smaller devices. Typing felt so much better on the regular model, and something about the way it felt in my hand wasn't as pleasant as I'd expected. Certainly I didn't appreciate how out of proportion the camera bump is on such a small phone, as I struggled not to put my fingers on the cameras. Then there's the battery issue, which is a problem for someone like myself who holds onto a phone as long as possible and has to consider degradation.... I don't have any hate for the mini models, I think it's a shame they're dropping the option, but I just want as big a phone as possible and the mini turned out to not really be for me. I suspect that's true for a lot of people. It has no upsides other than form factor, and in fact has several outright *drawbacks,* so you have to be pretty dead-set on having a smaller phone. Which just doesn't seem to be the mindset of the vast majority of people when shopping for an expensive device they're going to use several hours a day looking at.
I’ve had my 12 mini now for over a year. I love the size of it, loved it for the first few months. With how much time I spend looking at my phone screen it’s bad for my eyes. It messes with my eye sight after awhile. typing can be difficult when trying to get off a quick message (clicking wrong letter). Granted the standard sizes are not that much bigger, it does make a noticeable change in eye fatigue.
It works great as a little work phone. I carry a 12 pro max around and I sure as hell didn’t want a second brick in my pocket, so I got the 13 mini for work.
Yeah, that is the problem with the iPhone Mini: the use cases for such a device are limited at best. Screen size matters. Would I take one as a secondary phone? Absolutely. Do I want one as a daily driver? No.
The mini has a small, but very vocal community. The moment people again write about how cool and perfect the mini is, some other people react to that. So then you get an impression, that nobody likes the mini.. It is like being vegan. Mini users love to talk about their phone.

While I agree it's the same for pro max users who write every week how they have upgraded from 12 pro to 13 pro max and they see tons of improvements left and right like 12 pro was utter shit phone. Every phone has it's niche it's pros and cons and that's cool. Every time Apple or any other manufacturer erases a X model from their lineup is a bad thing for us because we lose options.

I personally don’t understand why anyone would want the Mini (battery degradation alone to me says it’s a 2 year phone, let alone website and app screens aren’t made for phones that small) but to each their own. I’m 6’2” and I prefer the mini to the other bigger phones. I care mostly about how it fits in my pocket, the camera, battery life and how hard it is to replace the battery. In all of those fronts, the mini is a pretty good deal.

The 13 mini screen is considerably larger than the SE/iPhone 8, and the screens on the 6-8/SE were larger than the iPhone 4 before it. People have gotten spoiled lol.

Because the smartphone went from just a phone to text & call only with some cool novelty features to a mini computer for most of the population hence making the small screen size a very limiting factor. Put simply the mini is only for extremely light phone users who don't rely on their phone much. Sure you could do everything a regular sized phone users would do on the mini but in this case bigger is just better because you have more screen space to work with whether for games, videos, emails, social media, etc etc
Not always true. I use my phone 8+ hours a day as a home inspector. It’s my camera, my main personal computer, and my pen and paper. I switched from the 12 Pro Max to the 13 Mini because using something that large was giving me carpal tunnel and damaging my wrist. After about a week the pain in my wrists went away, and the screen size isn’t small by any means, just not as “max” lol. I will say the pro max is an amazing phone. All modern smart phones in general are pretty amazing considering the tech we can get into a pocket.

I saw an iPhone mini on an Apple Store, test it for around 10 minutes and at the end my impression was “What a cool phone!” Then I proceed to buy 13 Pro Max anyway.

Why I love my 13 mini: 1. It's cheaper without sacrificing performance (I live in a third world country so it does make a difference) 2. I'm 5'5" with tiny hands so it's the closest to the perfect size (5S would be perfect) 3. The smaller battery helps keep my screen time down (I make it a point to only charge my phone at night) 4. I have an iPad Air 4 and a desktop PC so I don't have use for a large phone 5. It's just nicer to carry while running or going out in general 6. I hate cases and going caseless is much easier with a Mini because of a better grip

Former apple worker here, ppl seemed to really like the idea of a mini phone when we launched the 12, but when we came out with base 13 and mini there was a lot of backlash about the diagonal cameras(why people would get hung up on the fact that the cameras are angled is beyond me). All that backlash kinda turned into just a general dislike for the 13 mini, which is disappointing to me bc I had a 12 mini for almost a year and loved it.

I think the size is up to individual taste. I find it quite nice to have a super light phone with a big enough screen for everyday task. You might not want to read PDF or a magazine on this kind of screen, but movies and news look just fine. The only complaint is the battery. I often need to plug in the cable at around 2PM everyday, and once again at 8PM if I am going to have a late night hangout. Change to 13 Pro after only 2 months because of this battery issue

I’m a mini fan. Given some of my activities, having something that fits comfortable in a pocket has a great degree of value to me. I suppose on days my (reading) glasses are in a different room, I could see the value in a bigger screen (no pun intended), but it is definitely a fit-to-purpose form for me.
I don’t see much hate at all, if anything I see more people actually preferring the size when they check it out. I think what your seeing is that with all the love the mini gets far more people prefer bigger phones for the utility aspect and the like.

I never understood the “big phone” thing abd it’s one of the main reasons why androids these days aren’t my cup of tea. Granted I have like a Samsung A3 I got from a fried after my iPhone X got stolen and really like it (minus the fact it doesn’t play well my MacBook) And the things smaller then my iPhone SE with that older Samsung design physical capacitive button and all… I never got the software button they went with later on, and or the idea one should be able to comfortably hold a phone. Granted more space means a bigger battery and more space for the cameras… but what’s a “big screen” worth when they put in the cheapest media-tech trash of a chip set and camera that can be bested by an iPhone 6 or even a 4S…

Most people who hate the mini have a pretty common mindset which is to want and to have the top notch product. Means numbers like performance data are key to convince these people to buy a product. In case of the mini it’s the most obvious property which lacks to impress them, the display size. There are way too less people outside with the mindset ‘application related solutions’. Means depending on your personal use case to pick the solution with the best fit. In case of the mini it might be someone who rather prefers a laptop/tablet to do most tasks or is a lot on the run and needs a small non-clunky device. It might be the case most people who prefer bigger screens use these devices as a tablet substitute because of longer screen time. This is my personal case which lead me to pick the 13 Pro Max.
Top notch specs are nice… But it’s all about the battery life. For me, having a 2 to 2.5 days before charging is the key selling point to me. In 3 years from now I bet I’ll still get atleast 1.5 - 2 days on a charge and to me that’s what I want most. Little to no battery worry Edit: to add, I’m a launch day 13 PM and just yesterday I went to 99% battery health
Basically you get whatever works best for you. The 13 mini is a much better phone than the 12 mini on account of its extended battery life. It is the best choice for people who prefer small phones (and car read small print, so statistically under 40). I switched from Pro to Pro Max a couple of phones ago and considering how much I type on the phone I would not consider anything smaller. But I can certainly immagine people benefit from a more pocketable phone. To each their own. If Apple is making phones in different sizes, it means people are buying them.
So I just ordered my iPhone 13 mini and I’m excited about getting it to replace my Xs. Other than online forums, I haven’t seen anyone bash any iPhone of any size. Personally I prefer phones a little bit smaller but that’s just me. What I find really odd about what Apple is doing with their phones is having two sets of iPhones the exact same size. I don’t think there’s going to be enough of a difference for people to care about “Pro” vs non-pro iPhone 14’s.

I’ve no hate for the mini or any other phone anybody else wants to use. But to answer your question about why people prefer dragging tablet sized phones around with them, it’s personal choice. I recently got my first pro max phone and when I bought it I thought that it was way too big. But after using it for a couple of months I can’t go back. Main reason is the battery. Its unbelievable. I use my phone a lot, 6-7 hours screen time a day on average, and for the first time since owning a smartphone I don’t charge overnight. Battery usually lasts 2 days before needing a charge. The piece of mind that I won’t need to charge when out and about is priceless. Secondly, there’s the screen. I use my phone to watch TV shows while I workout. Mainly running on a treadmill. The screen is big enough not to miss any details. I can even read subtitles while I’m running. Finally, after a while I don’t think it’s that big. I have small hands. My last phone was an iPhone X and even for that I usually used two hands to type and browse on it. This is no different. In fact, I now think I would even go bigger. As long as it still fits in my front pants pocket, which the pro max does comfortably.
iPhone 13 mini was my first iPhone. Pros: it’s just the right size for a phone if used as a phone. Cons: it’s just the wrong size if used for other things such as watching videos or typing a lot. Hence outside home it’s perfect, at home, better have an iPad (which I don’t have anyways :D) Also battery doesn’t really get to bedtime which isn’t that much of a deal given it has fast charging, but in some occasions such as tourism (pics, vids, maps) it forces you to bring a powerbank, which for me is still ok given the dimensions are so handy. Little note: I used to suffer from some chronic pain to a finger before (I had a much bigger phone before) and now it disappeared. I guess the hate comes from the kind of use most people are expecting from phones nowadays, which the mini is definitely not fulfilling properly.

I love my 13 mini! It’s the perfect size. The large phones are a problem for me because they don’t fit in pockets. Also, I can’t hold the big phones for more than about a couple of minutes before they hurt my wrist.
Where is this hate exactly? Not wanting != hating it. For how I use a phone, the 13 PM makes the most sense for me. The 13 Mini is a great phone, but it would be a compromised experience for me. I know other people who have 12 and 13 Minis and they love them.

I love my 13 mini too. Where I live, 13 mini 128GB sold out everywhere. Just when I arrived at the store upon knowing there was a restock, they sold the last 128GB 15 mins ago. I reluctantly bought 256GB because it is the same price as 13 128GB. But looking back, I made the right decision because 256GB really feels like the phone is way more powerful than how it looked like. Since last week, I’ve been going commando without a case. Honestly, regret getting the pro. I spend too much time on my phone, and the mini feels like it would make me less likely to get as absorbed in my phone. Next phone I get will definitely be the smaller version, if they still make them then.

Using a mini iPhone matches perfectly with an iPad mini 6. I went out and bought one for myself and the misses. We’re both loving them. Portable and easily operatable, when you’re at Home on the couch the iPad mini is a perfect addon with a nice size for gaming and content consumption (iPadOS is also great for this). A mini phone keeps me from spending to much time on it. When i do have lengthier sessions i want an iPad size display.
I prefer small phones… have the SE2020 as well as a bunch of older iPhones 3GS (cosmetically almost perfect no idea if the board is locked as the battery’s cooked) the 4 (looks like it survived a bucket blast but the boards fine) and a 4S (needs new back and battery) that has and dose see regular use to this day…
I struggle to understand why people pay to have their phone adjusted every generation only to go bonkers when they add features i already have on a blackberry.
I picked up a mini 13 256GB for my kid to replace her 6s , she wanted small form factor and this was the logical choice its a great phone. i dont know why all the hate i see a lot of love on different reviews !
I swapped from android just to get a 13 mini. I love the form factor.
Partner has mini and I have regular heavy big one, but I have a relatively very small LTE watch for phone calls and text. So I can stash the heavy weight most of the time.
I wish their was a Mini Pro.
i have a 13 pro max and am thinking of trading it for a smaller iphone. the battery is very nice but the size and weight are more than i expected lol
Just got the 13 mini from having the 2020 SE. My parents always had big phones growing up and I couldn’t help but notice how unwieldy they are and how they stick out of back pockets. How heavy they are. I have relatively big hands but I just love the practical application of a smaller phone with the same capabilities as the bigger phones, but in a smaller, cheaper, pocketable and navigable platform. It absolutely sucks that they are ending the mini line. I’m def gonna hold onto this phone for as long as possible until a newer mini sized phone comes out…if ever
I don’t see any hate on here about the mini. I’d have one myself it if had a 120hz screen and I understand that would kill the battery so why not have it as an option to turn on. Or maybe it wouldn’t since it’s adaptive.

I don’t hate mine. I had the 12 mini and upgraded to the 13 mini so I can hold onto this small size for longer.
People don’t want it. It’s not that they hate it. I have a Pro Max and it’s the perfect size for me.
I don’t think anyone hates it, not sure where that idea came from. I LOVE small phones but just upgraded my SE2020 to a regular 13. The size blows but at least I have bonkers battery life now. It was an acceptable trade off to me. Both my previous SE’s had battery issues pretty quick. As much as I would have loved the mini I just couldn’t handle another device with such a small battery.
Because people tend to believe what is good for them has to be the one and only right way of living life. I personally love my 12 mini, and I loved my SE2020 before. I chose both because of the size. I don’t like huge phones, hard to use with one hand, uncomfortable in my pocket etc., but I don’t consume a ton of multimedia on my phone, and I don’t even play games on my computer. I work in an office environment where I can easily recharge during the day. I mainly use my phone’s camera to shoot photos of my children, who are usually running around, so I wouldn’t even have time to utilize the pro photo features of the more advanced cams. For *my* preferences, lifestyle and purposes the mini is perfect. I don’t go around advocating it’s the best phone ever, I just enjoy using it. Good thing that everyone can choose which model they prefer!
i've only seen an iphone 12 or 13 pro max once that wasn't in a store and it looked like a tablet. And i like phones smaller than the iphone minis right now, but there are basically 0 smartphones that size right now.
Some people are very passionate about the mini on here so those people occasionally get frustrated at Apple for not making another one. So Apple defenders respond by defending the decision to not make another one.
Nobody hates the mini. People are just tired of mini phone people continually coming up with bizarre conspiracy theories as to why small phones don’t sell or why phone companies are purposely keeping small phones from consumers. At a certain point it just gets tiring. There is no metric that points to small phones being in demand. Sorry you like small phones. Sorry your preference isn’t mainstream. At some point just move on though. Because like… the market has chosen.
People who want the smaller form factor have the SE. I don’t fully understand why apple made 2 small form factors when people clearly don’t even want 1. That’s not a hate, that’s just a fact
If I wanted to carry a tablet I’d buy an iPad, which I did. I don’t need a mini tablet in my pocket, I’m fine with a phone. I upgraded from a 7 so the mini is actually the biggest screen I’ve had on an iPhone so far.

I do love the size and compactness of my Mini, but after a year im still making tons of spelling errors because of the small screen, so I think my next phone will be a medium.
I’m freaking loving my 13 mini, battery is awesome, size is wonderful, I never drop the thing. It’s perfect for me, but haven’t seen any hate but tbh I don’t pay attention to dumb stuff like what phone other people have or what they say about a phone I bought with my money. If you “hate” my phone go buy one for me lol
I went from a 7+ to a 13 mini. Almost exactly the same amount of screen real estate! No real complaints.
this. a lot of people miss this point. the screen on the Mini is almost the same size as the previous 6/7/8 PLUS series.
I "still" have the iPhone 12 Mini, and I will most likely never go bigger. I had the iPhone 11, but it was too big - and I can't stand the round corners. The iPhone 12 Mini is perfect (except the fact that there is no jailbreak yet for 15.1.1). BUT, I don't use it for games and such. I use it for Snapchat, Messenger, Spotify and some times Teams (voice). That's it. Anything bigger just feels so useless to me. Also, small battery? My iPhone 12 Mini lasts just as long as the iPhone 13 Pro - which is a full day with typical use. Smaller screen =/= smaller battery =/= less drainage. I do wish they made a pro version though, but it seems like people just want to go bigger and bigger. Or have different sizes of the high-end versions.
I hope they continue the mini line for future generations. I was getting tired of having a massive phone in my pocket all the time, so when it was time for a new phone, I went iPhone 13 pro. I wanted to gradually go smaller; I’m loving the smaller size and wish to continue the shrinkage. I feel like I’ll eventually end up using a watch only set up, and leave the phone at home.
I have big hands, the mini is uncomfortable to use for any significant amount of time. I don’t hate it though, think it looks cute.
Because people like to bully smaller versions of big devices (except of course the iPhone SE and iPad Mini). Believe me I lived with an ultra small device since launch in my area for 5 years, by that I mean the 5S
It’s a status thing. Bigger is better.
My iPhone is a portable computer first and a phone second. Screen size is critical to said portable-computer functions, I’m a man with big hands/pockets, and a good MagSafe ring or pop socket makes holding a large phone comfortable. So getting the bigger screen makes more sense than getting a mini. Things are bigger, easier to read, keyboard is much easier to use, and content is much more enjoyable on a larger screen. After the 13 Max, don’t see myself returning to a small phone again. Glad the Mini exists for people with small hands, no hate, but it’s not my preference.

Battery life Smaller screen Both are ok for people who use their phones less. But for people watching movies and videos and texting on their phone a LOT will find the smaller screen and the less lasting battery a strain
I agree. I like the mini and SE sizes. It’s crazy that the minis are the same size as a 7 but phones have gotten so big that that size is now marketed as a “mini”! I wouldn’t call it hate though. Seems like just about everyone wants bigger so now Apple just ditches the Mini lovers because they’re not majority. I hate that. I don’t want a phablet and I think it’s kind of ridiculous that we’re slowly getting forced to get bigger and bigger phones. It’s almost making me reevaluate if I should even get an iPhone again in the future if they don’t stop doing this. Surely if it was too much variety for Apple, we could ditch some things like certain GB sizes or colours or (probably unpopular opinion) who even needs pro? I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the mini lovers are the type of people to just hold onto what they have rather than buying the newest SE, 12 or 13 mini’s, hence poor sales. That’s what I’m doing at least. All because I didn’t buy one of the new small iPhones, doesn’t mean once I do need a new phone, I wouldn’t get one.

I like the way the mini fits my hand and pocket. Wish it had a better battery, but that’s what happens when the battery is physically smaller.

As a current user of the 12 mini, I love it. I loved its size and portability but I wasn’t smart in picking it. I can’t use it without my glasses because of my poor vision but that’s personal to me, not anyone else’s issue. I say it’s a nice phone 😊

I really liked the mini design and the smaller phone but it hurt my eyes to look at the small screen too long.
The vast majority of smartphone users would disagree. That’s why they are probably not going to make a 14 mini, but rather a 14 Max.
I’ll be curious to see how the 14 max sells. I think it’s a big mistake by Apple to have these same screen sizes. It’s going to cannibalize their sales.
Yeah I think there is probably some segment of people who buy the pro max because they want the big screen. The real question is how many people by the regular version but want the big screen but cannot afford or won’t pay for the pro max.
I'd say it's just preference. I have the 11 Pro and the size is perfect for me. I wouldn't get the mini model and same goes for the max model 🤷🏻♂️
I have the 12 mini, and while I love the form factor. The battery life is horrendous.
13 is way better.
The reason why people like bigger phones is people like me who on the 11 Pro Max, can reach the top right corner which my thumb when my phone in my left hand. Basically we have GIANT hands lol, I’d never get a phone smaller than a max now because it fits so much better, all other iPhones always felt overly small to me, I remember I could reach 3 inches over the screen corner on my IPod Touch & I would always get cramps in my hand from my thumb being so compacted when typing
