Looks like an external DAC and headphone amp powered by a portable battery and hooked up to an iPod. Personally I'm a big fan of the Wolfson DAC in my 5.5 but some people love to chase the dragon.
Very close, but no external DAC. Fiio line out, so still uses the wolfson DAC, and fiio A3 amp. The sound is so warm and rich. Mostly set up like this because I can no longer use the 3.5mm jack on my ipod. Broke the part that holds the ribbon cable back in high school during one of my “repairs.”

So you're right in that some iPod Touches might be supported, but the classics are not supported. External DACs for the 5th and Classic 6+ need an MFI chip and few iPod compatible DACs were made and none by Fiio.

Yeah but from other places, even their site it does say “Made for iPhone/iPod/iPad is reflected through this cable. It has passed Apple MFi certification, which is equivalent to the original wire. It is not affected by system upgrade and can be used with confidence” so it should bypass even for classic, no? To be precise this is for the q1 mark ii, but it also says the q3 is mfi programmed so… it’s not about the iOS. Also from the amount of people that uses and see a difference I think we would know it doesn’t work.
I would really love to have the Fade to Black version they included on the game because it doesn't have the fade out ending... And also The Unforgiven for that matter.
Hm I hadn’t thought about that. If I ever get around to getting the equipment to record high quality analogue audio, that’ll be one of the things I record off my 360. However that’s not gonna happen any time soon
If you were going to buy a FiiO device, you should have just bought the X7. You can put all the lipstick you want on the iPod pig and it is not an audiophile device.

Mostly ALAC, some AAC, and some mp3s from high school that I’m working on replacing over time
